What happens to files when they are deleted on the iPhone?

When you delete files like videos, podcasts or emails directly on the iPhone by swiping it and hitting the "Delete" button what happens to these files? Are they instantly removed from disk or they go to some sort of "Recycle Bin"?
Do you know that bar on iTunes showing how your iPhone disk is being used, with "Audio, Video, Photos, Apps, Other and Free"?
I wonder if having more than 4Gb on the "Other" category is related to this practice in any way?

Other includes data such as 3rd party app settings and data created and stored by a 3rd party app, email stored or cached locally including email attachments, Safari history, cookies, and cache, notes, voice memos, visual voicemail, contacts, calendar events, etc.

You may have to try deleting all the music from your phone (by going to Settings>General>Usage>Music, swipping All Music and tapping Delete), then sync it all back on with iTunes in order to fix this.

Are you both using different Apple ID on iTunes?

When downloading files in Safari - they are deleted - with the message "contained virus" - whatever site I download from - even my own files from online storage sites. Very irritating. Any suggestions?

When I download file sin Safari they are deleted automatically. The message I get is: "deleted because it contained a virus".
How do I solve this?
I have uninstalled and installed Safari a couple of times - to no avail.
I have no trouble in other navigators.

Why can't itunes locate my music files when they are there?

I think that this happened when I checked off both "keep iTunes media folder organized" and "copy files to iTunes Media Folder when adding to library."I had all of my files located at C:\Users\Beata\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media and then I noticed that itunes made folders for all of of my music files because I have checked off the keep iTunes media folder organized. Ever since then, itunes can't find all of my files but only some of it and I don't want to go one by one to locate all of the songs. All of my songs are located in the same location which is C:\Users\Beata\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Music I changed it to this location because all of my song files are located there and the place where it was located before, I didn't find the song files on there. I also noticed that itunes would oragize and create folders for my songs in the my music library and I thought that was the reason why itunes couldn't find the files because they were in the wrong location so I moved all of those folders to C:\Users\Beata\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Music So, is it because all of my files are in folders since itunes organized them? All of my files are in album, artist, and song title folders. Where should all of these folders be located at? Also, iTunes creates multiple folders that have the same name and should I just leave the folders be or organize them myself because I have folders that have the same exact name as in the artist and title but it has different song files in the folders. Should I combine the files into the same folder that have the same artist or should I just leave it that way? Please ,I really need help as I have tried almost everything.

Finder de-selects files when they are locked/unlocked

I have several encrypted disk images that I use to store various personal info on: financial data, logins/passwords, health info, etc.
Whenever I update the content on any of them I make a copy of the .dmg file, then rename the copy with the date and time in the filename. For example, if I have a test.dmg file, when I update content in it, I would make a copy and rename the copy like test_201401051459.dmg. That way I have a series of backups of each iteration of the encrypted disk image file. (I've had encrypted disk image files get corrupted in the past, so this is a simple way to make sure I can open at least one of the previous backup files if necessary.) I also "lock" each dated copy of the .dmg file to prevent accidental deletion.
At the end of each month I move all of the dated backup .dmg files to an "_Old Data" folder. In order to do that, I select all the .dmg files I want to move into the subfolder, then right-click (or ctrl-click) on them and -- continuing to hold the Ctrl key down -- I click on "Get Summary Info" to open a single "Get Info" dialog for all of the files so I can unlock them before I move them (if I don't unlock them, then Finder will make copies instead of moving them). As soon as I de-select/uncheck the "Locked" option in the "Multiple Item Info" dialog, Finder de-selects all of the selected files in the Finder window and also narrows the column they're displayed in (I always use Column View in Finder windows). This forces me to manually re-widen the column so I can see the entire file names, and manually re-select all of the files so I can move them into the sub-folder.
This is changed behavior from Snow Leopard (from which I upgraded to Yosemite). In Snow Leopard, Finder left things alone. It didn't decide all on its own that files should be de-selected and that column widths should be narrowed to what it thinks is right. This turns a relatively simple operation into an unnecessarily-more-complex operation. Pure PITA.

To add a bit, the suggestion by IIIaass will work if you already have done this. It will not work if you are not already sharing the same Apple ID and you are looking for specific messages they have already deleted.
Also if you are going to share the Apple ID you need to turn on Restrictions and lock down their device so they cannot go into the Touch and change to a different Apple ID when they leave the house.

Illustrator CS 6 makes copies of files when they are opened

This is not a view problem. Illustrator actually makes a file labelled "copy"everytime the particular file is opened. Each time it is opened, it makes another copy & tags a number on the end. It only happens with the occasional file, but once this happens, nothing will stop the problem. Selecting all & pasting into a new file does not help. There are no extra views. The artwork is originally copied from the customer file & pasted into a new document. A solution would B immensly appreciated.

The solution for me is in the "Get Info" box. Select the problem file & "Get Info" by right clicking or just select the file & type command i. Every file we had problems with had the "Stationary Pad" checkbox selected. Uncheck this (& the "Hide Extension" as well if it is selected) & no more copies on opening. The stationary pad button is like a lock, except it opens an editable, saveable copy while preserving the original.

Seems like many people want to manage their photos my separating them into albums, rather than one massive camera roll. In Android once you move the photo form the roll to an album it is gone from the roll thus eliminating a massive roll. There are not two copies. There is one and it is in the Camera Roll. The albums you create only point to the pics in the camera roll. It is simply an organization tool.
The camera roll is temporary storage for pics taken with iPhone. You should be importing them to your computer regularly. Once there, you can organize them however you like and sync them to your iPhone.

Have you tried restarting or resetting your iPhone?
Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after It shuts down, press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10 seconds).
Also consider deleting and reinstalling the Mail Account in question.

HELP. I deleted some files, but they are still in the Nib I think

I have royally messed up. I'm working on a cocoa app with various Quartz Compositions in it using QC View's. The .qtz files have been loaded into the Nib via the QC View's, but by accident I have deleted the original .qtz files from my disk.
I can still build the application and the views work as it seems the .qtz files must be cached into the nib file. However I can't get to them to save them back to my disk. Is there any way to get a .qtz file out of a nib after its been loaded in. Perhaps some way to reverse save the file out to disk?
Sorry its so rambling, its just that I've spent weeks getting these compositions right and now I've gone and deleted them I'm beside myself
I have tried looking inside the the nib file with 'Show package contents' but none of the .qtz files are in there. How are they cached in the nib?

I tried all sorts of utilities to get the files back, but no luck. So I sat down with plenty of coffee and retraced my work as best I could remember.
After a full days work, I have recreated all the files and actually made quite a few improvements along the way!! Although I lost some time, I actually ended with a better end product, so not such a disaster after all

My wild guess is that changing the Filetype changes what application can use it, perhaps breaking what is already using it...
I gave the answer above. There's probably nothing actually using it, and in the case there is, changing the code won't do anything. It's how the Finder interprets the 'bzy ' type that causes the report.
Start up using your Tiger install disc or your Restore disc, then trash the file.
No bootable Mac OS X install or restore disk includes an usable Finder.
