What happens to iweb once icloud arrives

Will I still be able to publish photos on iweb after icloud takes over on the 30th June 2012 or will i have to move to a new hosting company?

Gold fish looks and acts just like iWeb

Sandvox is nice, but it's Template based, so if you like Google's Homepage format... then this is good for you.
Pros use Dreamweaver.
As far as iWeb and site hosting....

Apple is no longer Hosting your websites.
Your website is CLOSED. They are not hosting websites anymore. They host your iClud data.
You still have your files on your machine, and can publish to a NEW server, if you like. You must first open an account with a domain provider and host, then publish to the new website with your info.
I use these guys, because it allows me to register in whatever country I like, and they are not blocked by China:

You  may also try Go-Daddy, or OnLineInstitute
You may want to check with our cable company, or your internet provider. You can get some good deals if you are already a customer.
Here is the How to, for changing your publish information over to the new service. (first you need a provider).

  • What happens to iweb-built site when I upgrade from Leopard (10.5.8) to Snow Leopard (10.6.3), and subsequently upgrade to 10.6.8 or even 10.7? Will fonts stay the same? Will layout change? Or anything else change? Thanks

What happens to iweb-build site when I upgrade from Leopard (10.5.8) to Snow Leopard (10.6.3) and subsequently update that to 10.6.8 or even to 10.7? Evidently iweb has been discontinued. I have version 3.0.3 of iweb now but understand that there's been an update for OS 10.6 so same question goes for this update.
Will fonts change? Will layout change? Will widgets still work? Links? Will Google Analytics PlugIn still work?
(Since MobileMe is disappearing, I now save iweb site to local folder on my computer, then upload it to GoDaddy using Cyberduck. I run Google Analytics plug in on folder before its uploaded.)
My computer, MacBook Pro came with iweb, which has been updated to 3.0.3. Since iweb is discontinued, will upgrade of operating system just ignore iweb so that iweb will run the same as before? Or will it wipe it out? Or change how it currently works (questions above).
    Thanks

As you now know iWeb and iDVD have been discontinued by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.
On June 30, 2012 MobileMe will be shutdown. HOWEVER, iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
    ◼ MobileMe Gallery
All of these features can be replaced with 3rd party options.
Currently if the site is published directly from iWeb to the 3rd party server the RSS feed and slideshow subscription features will work. However, if the site is first published to a folder on the hard drive and then uploaded to the sever with a 3rd party FTP client those two features will be broken.
There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.
However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: iW14 - Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.
NOTE: the iLife 11 boxed version Is no longer available at the online Apple Store.  To get a copy you'll have to try Amazon.com or eBay.com.

  • What happened to iWeb and iDvD?

    Hello,
I was watching the Steve's keynotes when I came to know that Apple had a iWeb application where you can create webpages. Apple doesn't lose complete functionality of a particular application unless they found an entirely better way of doing that job.
like iCloud as a replacement for mobileMe. What happened to iWeb and iDVD? Are there any latest substitutes for them. Is there any Apple software which can help me make web pages and stuff??

If you plan on using iDVD at some time and don't have it currently get a copy of the iLife 09 disk from a 3rd party retailer like Amazon.com.
    Why 09 instead of 11:
If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides  themes from iDVD 5-7.  The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes when starting from the iLIfe 11 disk nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.
Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:
This shows the iDVD contents in the iLife 09 disc via Pacifist:
You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.

  • What is happening to iWeb when iCloud goes live?

My family has been a major user of iWeb, not to mention we were users of .Mac as well when that was still around.  It allows us to have a private space where just our family and very close friends (not the masses like Facebook) can view our photo pages.  If all I am reading is true and Apple is dropping iWeb. I will be very upset.  I have been spending $99/year for the past 8 years just for this need.  Clearly someone at Apple hasn't been thinking this through.
Is there official notification that iWeb will go away?

At the present time it seems apparent that iWeb, and iDVD, will no longer be supported by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that some new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.  iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:

Apple has announced that iLife is now an unsupported product and those iApps will only be available thru the App Store from now on which does not offer iWeb or iDVD.
However, there may be some copies of the boxed iLife 11 still on the shelves that  include iWeb and iDVD.  Those two apps were listed in small, gray text on the iLife 11 box that I bought. Personally, if I already didn't have a copy I would purchase one to have it for reinstallation purposes if ever needed.

  • What happens to iweb hosting when mobileme ends?

I cuurently host a website with iweb/mobileme... what will happen to hosting when mobileme switches off?

I opened an account with GoDaddy, and moved all my iDisk files to their "OnLineFileFolder" system.  I also created space for iWeb hosting.  With the help of their telephone support (which is excellent), I was able to re-publish all my iWeb sites to their system, and it works fine.  From reading the other replies, there appears to be several solutions for iWeb hosting elsewhere.
Here is a sample of iWeb posted on GoDaddy:

  • What happens if I shut icloud off?

I completed the ios update earlier today, and now I am receiving text messages meant for my brother's iphone, which leads me to believe our devices are linked. If I shut icloud off, what will happen? I just don't want our devices to be linked anymore and I feel like shutting icloud off will solve that problem.

Ignore this, I figured it out! On my iphone, I went to "settings", then "messages", then scrolled down to "send & receive." Turns out both my brother's and my numbers were listed there, so I unchecked the box next to his number and it sorted everything out. Hope this helps someone!

  • What happened to my once perfect reception in Summerville SC?

I have two Iphone 4 and a Blackberry through Verizon Wireless. I have been a customer for over 5 yrs here in my present location.  The reception and service were always perfect.  Loved the company and the service.
6 months ago, it all changed.  It was around the time that I added a third line because I wanted an iPhone and since the service was so awesome, I knew I could put the Blackberry aside and use it for my home phone.  The first call that I made from my iPhone was to my daughter at work.  Her words to me:  I cannot hear you, you are breaking up.  I tried hopping around the house for a clear spot to no avail.  I called her back with my formerly trustworthy Blackberry.  Same problem.  Hubby then tells me that he has been having major problems with his reception too...even outside on the jobsite.  I call Verizon.  They blame the new Iphone and send me a replacement.  Same issues.  Can you hear me now?  NO.  This has been going on for months.  I have called and called customer service and even after all of their little tricks of the trade, still have crappy service, in and out of the home.  They tell me that I live a mile from the tower.  That I should have excellent service.  NOT.  I am sick of having and paying for three phones that we can barely use in the home.  WE had to recently break down and get...gasp...a land line.
Today, I voiced my concern again on the Verizon online chat and was told that I could purchase a network extender for 249.00!!!  WHAT?  Why should I pay even more for service that I did have that was once perfect?   Something has changed with VErizon.  Something was done.  Why would all three of my phone suddenly have bad service?  I had ONE bar last night on my iPhone...upstairs...by a window.  Unacceptable.  I am sick of calling and being on the phone (my new landline now) for an hour to redo a task that has already failed to fix the problems.
    A solution????  Help!!

We appreciate your loyalty, canyouhearmenowNOT! I was able to confirm that there are no known issues in the area. I do want to take a closer look though, please provide your zip code. It seems like we also filed a resolution ticket which I would like to review. I just sent you a follow request, please accept and follow back.

iWeb was discontinued about 2 years or so ago; you can still find it if you want to buy a retail version of the iLife 09 suite available at online resellers and ebay.

I would imagine that iWeb and iDVD will be dropped from future boxed versions of iLife if there are boxed versions. However, there may be some copies of the boxed iLife 11 still on the shelves that would include iWeb and iDVD.  Those two apps were listed in small, gray text on the iLife 11 box that I bought.
iWeb 3 has a built in ftp client that will let you upload to an 3rd party host as easitly as it publishes to MobileMe Now.  There are times when that client has problems for some so the use of a 3rd party ftp client would be necessary.  The free  Cyberduck is a good client.

WHATS GONNA HAPPEN WITH IWEB NEXT YEAR WHEN MOBILE ME CHANGE TO ICLOUD?

Don't use all caps.  It's tantamount to shouting and more difficult to read.

  • What happens to my websites created in iWeb when iCloud replaces IWeb (Rumoured)?...

What happens to my websites created in iWeb when iCloud replaces IWeb as is rumoured... they will be lost?

To tell you te truth We should should've all expected this...
With no new updates to iWeb in a good couple of years, even though it's an amazing piece of software enjoyed by million. It upsets me no end to see apple continually doing this and what have they done exactly? Left goodness knows how many customers worried and uncertain about a product they love and rely on, I do anyway.
One of the main reasons I have a Mac isn't only the build quality and the OS, although that does have a fair amount to do with it. The main reason for me moving to Apple and investing in a machine all those years ago was iWeb, being a creative control freak, I love to be able to get out my Mac, open iWeb and in minutes create a new launch page for a new mix, upgrade some of my services a customers asked for, recreate any aspect of how I present myself to people at a click of a button... I know you can upload to FTP server but phooey, why damage a good thing.
This as annoyed me no end... so I'll not doubt I'll be taking it out on an Apple employee tomorrow when I take back my blown power pack for my MacBook pro, my third one in 8 months... I sign of the way apple is going?
PS as for iOS 5 ... Seriously underwhelmed, we've been given features 90% of which should have been launched in iOS3!.. Oh, although I can't handle windows anymore, have you see. The new Windows 8 layer? Watch out Apple, he's behind you

  • What happens to my local files once I activate iCloud?

Does my HD automatically delete everything and free up space?  Before I turn on iCloud  services and put my entire music and photo library 'up there' I want to understand what happens locally. I want to free up some HD space, but I'd like to keep a copy of everything locally on storage media.  Do I need to do that first?  Or do I need to manually clean up my HD once my content is pushed up to the cloud?

Does my HD automatically delete everything and free up space?  Before I turn on iCloud  services and put my entire music and photo library 'up there' I want to understand what happens locally.
    What will happen:
When you move a file from your internal drive to iCloud Drive, it will really be moved. Deleted from the internal drive and stored in iCloud.
But once the file has been uploaded, the Mac will download a shadow copy of the file from iCloud, and this file will be stored locally on your Mac  in your user library and also be included in your Time Machine backups.  There is a short interval, where you neither can access the file in iCloud nor on your Mac.  It is safer to copy to iCloud and not to move.  Once you are sure, the document can be accessed in iCloud and uploaded successfully, you can delete the original.  But because of the shadow copies you cannot save any space on your Mac using iCloud Drive.
Document types you can store on iCloud Drive:
Basically, you can store any type of document on iCloud Drive, as long as it is smaller than 15GB.
But for Music, it would be easier to use iTunes Match. This will sync your iTunes library between devices. And other than iCloud Drive, you can store the entire music library in iTunes Match and save space on your mac.
For photos, iCloud Drive is not optimal.  You can store folders with photos, but they will not show up on your mobile devices in the Photos.app. And you cannot store your iPhoto Library or Aperture Library on iCloud Drive. Photo libraries need to be stored on a locally mounted drive. Shared volumes and cloud storage are not supported by iPhoto or Aperture.
Apple is developing iCloud Photo Library (Beta). See this link:  iCloud Photo Library beta FAQ
This library is already available on mobile iOS8 devices, but not yet on the Mac. It is supposed to be supported later this year, when Apple releases a Photos.app for the Mac. Until then, you can only access this photo library using the web interface at    https://www.icloud.com/  using the Photos(Beta) app on that page.

  • What's going to happen to iweb with the introduction of icloud?

I have a couple of web sights I've created with iweb on mobil me. Is iweb going to be able to use icloud's server space for my sights?

Apple's web hosting goes away in a year.
You can still use iWeb with another host.  There are a few things that won't work, but most will.
See http://www.apple.com/mobileme/transition.html and the link in the What happens to the iWeb sites that I’ve published to MobileMe? section.

  • Lost my iPod, remotely locked it through iCloud. What happens when the battery goes out?

    Hello!
I lost my Ipod, but managed to locate and lock it remotely through Find my iPod and iCloud. It was located once, but hasn't been located again in the last four days. I think the battery may have run out. What happens when the battery is charged and the iPod turned back on? Does the lock and everything else that can be controlled with Find my iPod still apply?
    Thank you!

Yes, because when you remotely lock the iPod via Find my iPod, the lock code is set as the lock code that you would use to unlock the iPod if you used a passcode normally. As long as the iPod is still connected to your Apple ID, Find my iPod should work as log as the iPod is connected to wifi.
