What happens to my iWeb webpage

So for years I have posted my personal webpage using iWeb, it was free with my Me account, so basically now what? If I understand it correctly, it just ceases to exist, I still have all my content and set up and can publish to a fee based site, but is that it? I know it was free so no real hard feelings to Apple, but when I bought all this hardware and software and changed my life over to the Apple gods, this was part of the appeal..........

MobileMe was never free and you can get good hosting for about half the cost...

Use one of these alternative methods to publish your site...

There are also alternatives to the MobileMe only features...

  • What happened to my iweb file

I wrote my web site with iweb9 and recently updated our entire ilife suite with a family license pack.   Now whenever I go into iweb the program does not give me the ability to open my published site.  Instead it acts like I need to register which I keep doing over and over again.  My program say's that it updated to 3.03.  What can I do to get the program operating?  HELP AND THANKS.

There is no earthy point in looking for files on your iDisk because they are published files and iWeb has no import facility so cannot open them anyway.
The very same when you say that you tried to open an index file.  iWeb can't do it, because it is an html file, so there is no point in trying.
If you create a website in iWeb, then the domain.sites file will be there and you only need to look in one place for this - your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites.  Double click on the domain.sites file and iWeb will open it.  If you have created a site before, then your domain file will be there - remember to look in your User Library and not your System Library, as iWeb is not there.  If you can't find the file, then do a spotlight search for it - it has to be somewhere if you created and published the site, but don't look on iDisk, there is just no point as iWeb can't open these files anyway.
As Roddy has already pointed out, there is no iWeb 11 or iDVD 11.  It is iLife 11 and then the original versions of both iWeb and iDVD which were not updated as part of iLife 11.

  • HT4597 What happens to my iWeb page?

I wanted to publish my iWeb but can't.  I assume this is iCloud taking over.  Do I continue to work with Mac, or should I find another vendor for a Web page?  I have been a loyal Mac customer since 1989 when I bought my Mac SE.  Should I change loyalty?  Sincerely, Leonard Pratt

    Welcome to the Apple community.
You should still be able to publish to MobileMe via iWeb, I'm not sure why you can't do that. However MobileMe will be withdrawn on June 30, 2012, you should find a another host for your webpages by then. You can continue to use iWeb to create and edit your pages that you use with a third-party host, but you will not be able to use them with MobileMe after June.

  • What happened to my iWeb site?  ? marks?

    Ok.
    Uploaded to .mac, everything fine.
Uploaded via FTP to my web server at work, and I get this:
    http://allandrive.peelschools.org/ilab/ischool/Welcome.html
    See?
    Question marks. Ideas?

There's something wrong in your url, it doesn't work. But question marks probably means you need to either adjust the settings of your FTP program or talk to the server managers. See this note:

  • What happens to MobileMe Galleries ?

Little confused about what happens to them and what the alternatives are ?
Also, what happens to the iWeb websites ?

airsculpture: that is right. web.me.com/yourhandle pages also disappear. iweb will continue working, but you will need to get your pages hosted at another site. note that some functionality (comments, page hit counters) will stop working. a facebook group was created to petition apple to reconsider this decision. see:

  • What happened to iWeb and iDvD?

    Hello,
I was watching the Steve's keynotes when I came to know that Apple had a iWeb application where you can create webpages. Apple doesn't lose complete functionality of a particular application unless they found an entirely better way of doing that job.
like iCloud as a replacement for mobileMe. What happened to iWeb and iDVD? Are there any latest substitutes for them. Is there any Apple software which can help me make web pages and stuff??

If you plan on using iDVD at some time and don't have it currently get a copy of the iLife 09 disk from a 3rd party retailer like Amazon.com.
    Why 09 instead of 11:
If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides  themes from iDVD 5-7.  The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes when starting from the iLIfe 11 disk nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.
Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:
This shows the iDVD contents in the iLife 09 disc via Pacifist:
You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.

  • What happens to iweb-built site when I upgrade from Leopard (10.5.8) to Snow Leopard (10.6.3), and subsequently upgrade to 10.6.8 or even 10.7? Will fonts stay the same? Will layout change? Or anything else change? Thanks

What happens to iweb-build site when I upgrade from Leopard (10.5.8) to Snow Leopard (10.6.3) and subsequently update that to 10.6.8 or even to 10.7? Evidently iweb has been discontinued. I have version 3.0.3 of iweb now but understand that there's been an update for OS 10.6 so same question goes for this update.
Will fonts change? Will layout change? Will widgets still work? Links? Will Google Analytics PlugIn still work?
(Since MobileMe is disappearing, I now save iweb site to local folder on my computer, then upload it to GoDaddy using Cyberduck. I run Google Analytics plug in on folder before its uploaded.)
My computer, MacBook Pro came with iweb, which has been updated to 3.0.3. Since iweb is discontinued, will upgrade of operating system just ignore iweb so that iweb will run the same as before? Or will it wipe it out? Or change how it currently works (questions above).
    Thanks

As you now know iWeb and iDVD have been discontinued by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.
On June 30, 2012 MobileMe will be shutdown. HOWEVER, iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
    ◼ MobileMe Gallery
All of these features can be replaced with 3rd party options.
Currently if the site is published directly from iWeb to the 3rd party server the RSS feed and slideshow subscription features will work. However, if the site is first published to a folder on the hard drive and then uploaded to the sever with a 3rd party FTP client those two features will be broken.
There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.
However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: iW14 - Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.
NOTE: the iLife 11 boxed version Is no longer available at the online Apple Store.  To get a copy you'll have to try Amazon.com or eBay.com.

  • What happens if I delete a site in iweb?  site still on the web? system?

B/c of my various issues i'm having since upgrading iweb, I created two test sites on iweb09. I was able to upload them to the web and to a folder.
I deleted both. Later, I created another test site with the same name (site 2). I noticed this one was acting weird.
I'm wondering what happens to the sites after they are deleted.
    1. Are they available on the web?
    2. Are they somewhere else on my system that I should make sure to delete?
    Thx.

Deleting sites inside iweb does not have any effect on what has been published on a server or to a folder on your local drive. It just changes what is in iWeb's domain file.

  • Any shadow created in an iWeb site is pouched with latest upgrade. What happened?

the latest "security" upgrade that came out in the last week distroys any shadows created for images in an iWeb created site. In the original upgrade to Firefox 5 they were fine. They are still fine in Safari and even work in Internet Explorer. What happened? Here are some examples...

This is a huge problem. Please respond as soon as possible.
    Dave

That problem only seems to exist in Firefox 5. All other (older and newer) Firefox versions do not show that problem. So this may very well be a bug in Firefox 5.

  • What happens to my websites created in iWeb when iCloud replaces IWeb (Rumoured)?...

What happens to my websites created in iWeb when iCloud replaces IWeb as is rumoured... they will be lost?

To tell you te truth We should should've all expected this...
With no new updates to iWeb in a good couple of years, even though it's an amazing piece of software enjoyed by million. It upsets me no end to see apple continually doing this and what have they done exactly? Left goodness knows how many customers worried and uncertain about a product they love and rely on, I do anyway.
One of the main reasons I have a Mac isn't only the build quality and the OS, although that does have a fair amount to do with it. The main reason for me moving to Apple and investing in a machine all those years ago was iWeb, being a creative control freak, I love to be able to get out my Mac, open iWeb and in minutes create a new launch page for a new mix, upgrade some of my services a customers asked for, recreate any aspect of how I present myself to people at a click of a button... I know you can upload to FTP server but phooey, why damage a good thing.
This as annoyed me no end... so I'll not doubt I'll be taking it out on an Apple employee tomorrow when I take back my blown power pack for my MacBook pro, my third one in 8 months... I sign of the way apple is going?
PS as for iOS 5 ... Seriously underwhelmed, we've been given features 90% of which should have been launched in iOS3!.. Oh, although I can't handle windows anymore, have you see. The new Windows 8 layer? Watch out Apple, he's behind you

  • I have added photos to a portfolio website I'm building and a lot of them look VERY grainy when you click on them. They are nice clean large files and can print bat high res way over 16" x 20" so whats happened to them in iWeb?

When you are dealing with websites, image file size is a trade off between quality and download speed. There's not a lot of point to having high quality images if they take too long to download in the browser.
Nowadays we also have to consider the device that the end user is viewing the images on. An image that is optimized for viewing on a large screen is total overkill and unsuitable for those using mobile devices.
Really we should be supplying different versions of media files for different devices using @media rules in the stylesheet but this is rather outside of the scope of iWeb. If you use the built in image optimizer and the iWeb Photo template with slideshow, the application will optimize the images according to the way in which you set this function in preferences and the slideshow size will be automatically reduced for those viewing it on smaller screens.
If you want to give your viewers the opportunity to view large, high quality images, you can supply them as a download.

  • Closing One iTunes Account to Use Another, What Happens Next?

    Hey,
I recently setup a .Mac Account for my iWeb, and now want to use the same username for my iTunes, instead of a hotmail.com Apple ID (aID).
I contacted Apple and they said that I can't merge the two accounts.
In my Hotmail aID Account I still have come credit on the count, $24.00 approx.
    Now here's a solution I thought.
If I GIFT a television show to myself at my new .Mac aID - it will use the credit in my account...
Now I have a couple of questions:
    1) Who's account name will appear on the gifted television show? My new or old ID?
    2) What happens to all the other content that I have purchased with my old account? Will I still be able to play these?
Can anyone see any problems in this solution.... its the only way I can think of getting around the merge... I want to stop my Hotmail aID and use my new .Mac aID.
THANKS for any advice and help.

I have a similar issue. I would like to change an existing Apple ID to a MobileMe address. However, since an Apple ID is automatically created when you sign up for MobileMe, I was not allowed to change my existing Apple ID to the new MobileMe e-mail address. It does not make since that this is not possible, especially since both are Apple products and MobileMe is a paid service. This is a hassle when making iTunes purchases as I will have to maintain login info and authorizations for both my old Apple ID and the new MobileMe created Apple ID. Is it possible to close an Apple ID account. If so, I could close the MobileMe created Apple ID and then change the e-mail address on the old Apple ID to the new MobileMe address. Sounds kinda confusing. If this is possible, how do you do it? Thanks in advance.

  • What happened to you?

Just can't find you and I do not want to have this Google bar as
my opening page. Can't fix with re-install. What happened to you and why is this so difficult without warning? Did I miss the memo? I just want to use firefox as my browser and I am not comfortable with Google for very much of anything. Can you help me simply recover the functionality of your browser and explain how your growth has done this to my desktop computer? I do not need mobile and I hope my bookmarks and info are safe till I can find out what happened and fix it. Thank you for your time.

  • What happened to my old dock stuff?

I just got the latest version of Leopard for Christmas and was SO excited to install it. I installed it and when I went to update our website, low and behold, iWeb is gone. As well as ALL of my iLife applications (iPhoto, Garage Band, etc.). What happened to them? Do I have to purchase another iLife version. This truly disappoints me, because nothing indicated that when you upgrade to Leopard that you would also have to purchase additional software to KEEP what you already had to begin with!
Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Maybe I just missed it entirely....
    madjade

If you did an Erase and Install, you erased your iLife.
You will need to reinstall from your original disks that came with our computer..
When you boot from the disk, choose Bundled software...
If you did an Archive and Install, then your iLife applications should be in a folder called "Previous Systems".....
