What happens to my music in iTunes if I sell my iPod to someone else.....

I want to sell my iPod Nano to someone, but want to keep my music in iTunes for use with an iPod I plan to get in the future....I can do that, right?
How would that all work?
Can I sell it with my music loaded onto the iPod for their use? They just wouldn't have access to my iTunes library....or am I off on that?
Sorry if this is a dumb question!

You should restore the iPod before you sell it. Restoring your iPod will erase the hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings: Restoring iPod to Factory Settings with iTunes 7
Restoring iPod to factory settings with iPod updater
Alternatively if your iPod is set to update automatically whenever it is linked to another computer your songs will be erased and replaced by whatever is in the new iTunes.

  • How can I download previous iTunes purchases onto a new iPod using someone else's computer?

    Hi,
I've brought an ipod shuffle and need to download my itunes purchases but I don't have access to my own computer for another couple weeks.  How can I download from itunes?  I'm getting a message that the friend's computer I'm using can't use a different apple ID for 90 days - I'll be long gone by then and back with my own computer!!!
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Multiple people can indeed use multiple Apple IDs on the same computer in multiple user accounts as long as they do not use iTunes Match, automatic downloads or re-download any past purchases. However, if you'll read the KB article I posted a link to you'll see that for the purposes of those services a computer can only be associated with one Apple ID every 90 days. If the OP associates their friend's computer with their Apple ID and downloads purchases from the purchase history the owner of the computer will be locked out from using iTunes Match, automatic downloads or re-downloading any past purchases.
It's not that the friend will be unable to use iTunes at all, but what the OP wants to do will associate their friend's computer to thier Apple ID for 90 days which may cause the friend some inconvinence.

  • What happens to my music when I unsubscribe from iTunes Match?

What happens to my music when I unsubscribe from iTunes Match? Can I still access it and iTunes just stops matching new songs I add or is the whole thing not accessible anymore to download or play?

iTunes 7 will convert your existing library, but iTunes 6 and earlier will not recognize the new library format.

If i remove itunes and reinstall. what happens to my music & playlists.?. Thanks

    Hello danieljoseph57
Nothing, iTunes Store purchases or songs imported from CDs are saved in your My Music folder by default and aren't deleted by removing iTunes. Though it is a good idea to back up your iTunes files before any troubleshooting.

  • What happened to my music?  I updated to iOs 6 and its all gone.

What happened to my music?  I updated to iOs 6 and its all gone.  I pay for the iCloud music storage, but I currently have no access to my music.

iTunes Match was not working after I upgraded to iOS 6.  It was solved by connecting the iPhone to the computer, backing up the iPhone, and then doing a restore to factory settings.  After that everything is working fine.

Yeah, you can download them from Apple and from other sources. But then you have to add them to iTunes manually, you have to write (or copy & paste from somewhere else) descriptions, and jump through other hoops to get the same end result that used to be one-click-easy from within iTunes directly. Unless you don't care about having them neat and organized and stuff like that.

This is an unfortunate side affect and agree that it is cumbersome if you wish to include all the extra info iTunes used to provide. I suggest sending your disappointment to apple via the iTunes feedback channel at http://www.apple.com/feedback

Restore your library from a recent / current backup.  If you've failed to maintain a backup of data you obviously regard as valuable, see turingtest2's user tip on Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash.

Sorry. There's nothing anyone can do. The current version of the facebook app will not run on 4.2.1. The iPhone 3G won't run anything higher than 4.2.1. You're stuck.
Maybe it's time to buy yourself a new iPod Touch.

  • What happens to library when uninstalling iTunes? Please!!

    Silly question, I know...
But as I'm experiencing the same problem as everyone else after updating to I Tunes 6 (computer crash + ipod not recognized by itunes), I want to uninstall and reinstall it...
So, what happens to all my music files after I uninstall itunes?? Will they still be there after reinstall or lost forever??
    Thanks for your answers.

I always wondered if my music would be gone if I uninstalled iTunes. It does not erase you're music.
This might not be exactly the same problem but lots of people (myself included) had problems after installing iTunes 6.0. I did the following and it finally installed correctly.
    I went to
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290301
and downloaded the Cleanup utility near the bottom of that page. When it installs on your machine it will scan your computer for every installer every ran on you're machine. Only select iTunes and Qtime and delete those 2 installers. Then I went to add/remove programs and removed iTunes and Qtime. Prior to this Qtime would not unistall but now it did. Funny thing was there was no prompting by windows once I hit "remove/repair" in the "add/remove programs" function.
Then rerun the iTunes 6.0.1 update. That had been failing to install Qtime prior to this but now it installed and I see all my music again and iTunes works. Let me know if this does the trick, I hope so.

  • What happened to my music?

I currently have iTunes 7 on my computer. A couple of months ago, I had to send my laptop in to have the wireless card repaired. Prior to this, everything was fine. When I got it back, HP had, from what I am told, "IMIGED" my hard drive in to a "test" user. After messing around for a bit, I downloaded iTunes again and after messing around with it a bit, I was able to have some of my music library put back into iTunes. Today, I searched all of my computer and to find all of my music and put it all back into the iTues library for use with my iPod. Now, when I open iTunes, at the bottom it shows that I have "957 items,36.3 days, 5.42 GB" in my library, but almost none of them will play. When I click on a song, I get the message that says, "The song "" could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?", but searching my computer, there are no other libraries or folders with music files. It doesn't matter what file format the song is, almost notihing can be found. What happened and how do I fix it? I think that the iTunes software is not very user friendly.

E-van, welcome to discussions! In order to resolve this, you will have to do restore on your iPod. See the following:

  • What happens when i connect to itunes when ive used icloud since i first got my device?

Ive always used icloud but now i have ran out of storage i want to back up my devices using itunes, what will happen when i connect my device to itunes for ythe first time? I am using Windows 8.1 and have 3 apple devices (Ipod touch 5, ipad 2, an a ipad mini original)
    Thanks in advance!

Yes - if you try to sync, then it will tell you that it is a new device and everything will be erased. When you sync, you are syncing with the data in the actual iTunes Library. You select which Apps, Music, Movies, TV, Photos, Books, etc. that you want to sync to your device in the Device Profile tabs that will display in iTunes when you hook up your device. Whatever you have selected will sync to your device.
If you have your Contacts, Notes, Calendars, etc. already checked to sync with iCloud (not backup, but the items that are tuned on under Settings>iCloud on both your device and your computer), then those will not get replaced.
If everything on your device is purchased from the iTunes Store, you can download it all to your computer by going to the appropriate tab in the iTunes Store, click on Purchased under the Quick Links section to the right, and then download anything that has a cloud next to it.
Here is a support article on syncing:

  • IMac stolen - what happens to downloaded music/videos?

Help! House was burgled and imac was stolen. It had years of itunes downloads + cd collection. Is there anyway to avoid having to download (and pay!) for these again? Appreciate any help or advice.
    Thanks.

Sorry to hear about the loss. And sorry again, but officially Apple does not allow redownloads of purchased tracks. It's your responsibility to make backup copies in case something goes wrong with your system or it gets stolen, as unfortunately it apparently did in your case, and you lose all the information on your hard drive. If you haven't made a backup and don't have your tracks on an iPod, you're probably out of luck and will need to repurchase your tracks. Your homeowner's insurance may cover the cost of replacement if necessary.
You can try contacting iTunes Music Store Customer Service and explaining what happened. Reportedly in some cases Apple has allowed redownloading on a one-time basis, but don't count on it.
    Good luck.
