What happens to TimeMachine after Lion?

I have a Mac Pro on OSX 10.6.8 with my 4th hard drive bay for a 1.5 TB drive dedicated to TimeMachine
When I switch from Snow Leopard to Lion, what happens to my data on TM?
Should I erase it, and just start from scratch after the transistion?
Also. My current main drive I wasn't thinking when I upgraded it and didn't name it the same as the drive that was there before so in my TM folders I am seeing in older folders, the older drive name on the folder, and on the newer TM folders the new drive name.
Did I mess up the things? And will moving to Lion create more issues as to where TM looks for stored backed up data? I know I'm confused. I imagine TM will be too.
Thanks,
Steven

If the different partition is on an internal HD, by default, TM would back up the different partition separately -- the first backup would be of the entire drive.  You'd have separate backups of each partition.
If the different partition is on an external HD, TM won't back it up unless you tell it to, by removing that partition from the exclusion list per Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #10.
Assuming you're setting up a "dual boot" system, where you can switch back and forth between those partitions, and if you continue running TM on both, you may have some fairly serious problems.  See FAQ #32 for the gory details, especially the yellow box.
However, if you want to back up only the Lion partition, and have it "associate" the new partition with the backups of the previous Snow Leopard partition (so the first backup is of the changes only), you can do that via #B6 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting.

  • What Happens to Me after 6/30/12?  My devices are not supported!!!

What Happens to Me after 6/30/12?  Do I get to keep my @me.com address from MobileMe because My Mac, PC nor iOS device is supported by iCloud
On 6/30/12 All ACTIVE MobileMe accounts that havn't MOVED to iCloud will be deleted as MobileMe is no longer available.
Yes, this has a lot of customers upset, but you can still keep your account active and going until you are able to address the issue with the current versions of your computer and devices.
iCloud does have a web based version like any other email address out there.  You may not be able to access the account on your Computers or devices as you would like to for what ever reason, but this will help you to keep your email address and gain access to it.
    iCloud: Supported system requirements
You can KEEP your MobileMe email address and move it to iCloud even though your devices are not compatible and here is how.
****Mac OS X 10.4.11 and before: DOES NOT fall into this catagorey as 10.4.11 doesn't Support Safari 5.****
NON-Supported Devices & Browsers for iCloud
    DEVICES & COMPUTERS
    Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard
Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard
    Windows XP

    iPhone 3Gs
    iPod Touch 2nd Generation
    BROWSERS
    Safari 4
    FireFox 3
    Google Chrome 11
Before moving the account to iCloud.  First create a MobileMe back up of all your data.  This will ensure it has been saved to your computer.
How to back up MobileMe data:
    Summary
You can back up your MobileMe data to your Mac or Microsoft Windows-based PC.
This is different from syncing with MobileMe: syncing should not be considered a backup of your data because changes to the data can propagate automatically.
Sync your MobileMe account to me.com and your current iOS device if you have one.
Make sure the data has synced to the device and http://me.com.
Then you will need to DISABLE MobileMe syncing from your Computer and Devices
    On the iPhone
To delete your MobileMe account from the iPhone/Pad/Pod Touch, tap Settings ☞ Mail, Contacts, Calendars ☞ Tap your MobileMe account.  Next, you will turn the sliders off for Mail, Contacts, Calendars, Bookmarks Calendars.  You are going to be asked if you want to keep or delete the data from the iPhone/Pad/Pod Touch.  Make sure you KEEP on the iPhone/Pad/Pod Touch.
    This will prevent data loss.
☞ Then Tap Delete Account. DON'T FORGET TO KEEP THE DATA ON THE DEVICE!!!
    On the Mac
Click on  ☞ System Preferences ☞ MobileMe ☞ Account tab ☞ Sign Out.
To Move your account to iCloud
☞☞☞☞IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO BACK UP THE MOBILEME DATA AND TO SIGN OUT OF MOBILEME ON ALL DEVICES AS THIS CAN CAUSE POSSIBLE DATA LOSS DUE TO THE CURRENT OS YOU ARE USING.*****
Link: MobileMe: About moving to iCloud
    Summary
If you have an active MobileMe account when you move to iCloud, you’ll be able to keep your @me.com or @mac.com email address and move your MobileMe Mail, Contacts, and Calendars, as well as your Bookmarks, to the new service.
    Go to http://me.com/move
Log in with your FULL MobileMe email address including @me.com
(For @mac users, use @me.com just to log in.  You will later see your account is @mac.com still)
As you go thorough the prompts, you will see an ALERT regarding if your OS is supported by iCloud.
Ignore this and select YES.  This will contiue the iCloud set up.
Once it is done, you will have web access to iCloud via a supported browser (see below) for iCloud.
    icloud.com
To access your mail, contacts, calendars, Find My iPhone, and iWork documents from your computer's web browser, one of these browsers is required:
    Safari 5 or later
    Firefox 5 or later
    Internet Explorer 8 or later
    Chrome 12 or later

  • What happens to messages after its gone from the queue?

    Hi all,
just wondering if anyone knows what happens after a Message leaves Message Queue?
    Our scenario is this:
Hybrid configuration With Exchange online and Exchange 2013 server. All MX records Points to Our on prem server, but Messages sends directly from Exchange online.
We had one user where remoutrouting address was incorrect, but it is now correct and external mailflow is working again.Seems like old Messages are not delivered, only New ones.
Wondering if its possible to resend those Messages from the Queue or logs?
    thanks!
Please mark as helpful if you find my contribution useful or as an answer if it does answer your question. That will encourage me - and others - to take time out to help you. Thank you! Off2work

    Hi ,
If you run the command Get-TransportPipeline | ft -au , we can able to know what will happen to the messages when it enters it to the transport pipeline.
Note : Above command output will give you a similar and in-depth back end view of telnet session that happens during the message transport.
if we don't have the proper route for any of the destination domain then those messages will get queued in exchange till the message expiration time , whereas messages to the domains which has proper route defined in exchange send connector will reach the
destination domain. In case if the message expiration time is crossed for an particular message then the exchange server will drops the message and send an NDR to the sender mailbox.
In your case ,In you have any of those messages on the queues we can able to deliver those messages to the destination recipient. In case if the sender has received the NDR due to incorrect recipient address then the final chance would be re sending that
message again to the recipient from sender's mailbox.
    Thanks & Regards S.Nithyanandham

  • What happens to data after formatting hard disk?

Hi, I'm currently have a iphone and ipad... and is running my iTunes on Windows OS.
My question is, what happens to the data in apple products after I format my harddisk and reinstall iTunes. Will the data get lost after I connect my apple products to the newly installed iTunes?
    Data of concern:
Downloaded Applications --> Do I have to download them again in iTunes?
Music --> Will the music be overwritten and removed during Sync? (I suppose the same applies to Photos and Videos)?
Contacts --> Will my contacts be removed?
Thank you very much in advance for any useful feedback. (:
    Cheers!

HI and welcome to Apple Discussions...
what happens to the data in apple products after I format my harddisk and reinstall iTunes.
As long as your photos, music, contacts, and videos are reinstalled on your computer, all you have to do is connect the iPad and re sync everything.

  • What happens to content after my subscription expires?

Hi, this is my first time using an adobe product for a small business, and I'm trying to work out what happens after the subscription ends. I need to create three or four projects this year which I want to host on our employee learning system for the next few years. So I would cancel my subscription once the projects were completely finished. But it's not clear to me if my created content would remain accessible on the LMS system after my subscription ended. I assume it would, but I can't very well advise my company to go ahead with this plan unless I know for sure!
I've seen this question asked a few times without actually receiving a response; I would really appreciate a clear answer!
    Thanks

Expiry of the subscription only affects the author's ability to edit the content, not the end users ability to view the published output.

  • What happens with bootcamp after ios update

    Hello,
I am about to update from ios 10.7 to 10.8 (Mountain Lion). What happens with my (data on) bootcamp? Do I need to reinstall it?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Marcel Rombeek

iOS and Mac OS X are completely separate things, so I'm a bit confused. But assuming you're referring solely to updating Mac OS X, upgrading to Mountain Lion should not affect your Bootcamp partition in any way, though with Mountain Lion not yet released, we can't say with absolute certainty.
    Regards.

  • Satellite P300-1GI (PSPCCE) What happens with Vista after install of Win 7?

    Hello,
I'm planning to instal windows 7 onto my notebook but want to know what happens with my windows Vista I'm currently running. I already have made the recovery DVD's but are these enough to reinstal windows Vista after I installed windows 7? or wat can I do to make this possible?
(I'm sorry for my bad english, I'm from the netherlands)
    Thanks,
    Futience

    Hi
The recovery disk allows you to reinstall the Vista and all the Toshiba drivers and tools.
Dont be afraid to install Win 7.
If something will go wrong, you will be able to recover the notebook using the recovery disk. This will set the notebook back to factory settings
    Cheers

  • What can replace quicken after lion?

what can replace quicken in lion??

There are dozens of similar applications. A good one to look at is Mind Your Own Business - MYOB. Another is MoneyDance.
Look for all of them at MacUpdate or CNET Downloads.

  • What happened to color in Lion's G.U.I.????!!!!

Why are System Preferences in color yet iTunes and the rest of Lion is in 1980's monochrome?
Those of us who have used a Mac from the begining have lost patience with Apple's idea of 200 new features when they take away so many good ones?
Since when is color not in the G.U.I.? Why did I encourage all these folks to buy Macs for the last 28 years!!!!?? This is the one of the worst moves to damage a great timesaver... but someone is thinking different not inteligently... anyone else out there feel this way?

You need to get one thing straight: everything Apple does is, ipso facto, totally amazing. So you can now mark this problem as solved.
That helps a lot Tom. But thanks for your intelligent input, I am sure it has helped the OP out with their query. You seem to be very bitter towards Apple and yet continue to post your negativity everywhere in these forums, usually with little relevance to the questions asked and the issues raised. But if it reassures you about your inability to keep up with technology then we are all happy for you.
Now back to the OP. The workarounds spoken about include

    and

  • Pasting PDF - what happens to pages after page 1?

Pasting a pdf in to Pages works well except that I only seem to get the first page.
Anyone else experienced this? and what's the workaround?
Or am I just doing something stupid?

    Stupid is as stupid does.
It depends on what you're trying to accomplish. Rather than stupid I'd say you're doing things backwards.
The PDF format was designed to be the final step in document production to make files easily transferable between programs and operating systems. So, I have always viewed trying to insert a PDF document into another type of document as similar to trying to increase the dimensions of a painting after it's been framed; adding the eggs to a cake after it's been baked; spackling the walls after they've been painted . . . blah, blah, blah.
Unless the PDF is only a single page and that's the only format you can get for the document, I think the better procedure is to create a PDF of the Pages document (or Word document - insert program here) and then insert the other PDF pages into the new PDF file. If you only need a portion of the PDF or you only need the text, you can often copy and paste images and text from the PDF into another program. It depends on you the PDF was created.
BTW, the PDF is acting the way it should, although I can't explain the technical aspect of it. If you really want the other pages, you'll need to insert them one at a time, probably by breaking the PDF into multiple files and inserting each one.
    Good luck,
    Terry

  • What happened to Entourage after update?

After the update called 16807 Office 2008 12.2.5 Update.mpkg processed, my Entourage shortcut disappeared at the bottom of my screen?
Has this happened to anyone else?

By shortcut do you mean Entourage is no longer on the Dock? You can just drag it back to the Dock from the Finder window where it is located to restore it.

If I wanted to purchase a few games from the App store rather then on disk(example Roller Coaster Tycoon 3), what would happen if my computer ever crashed,or if I a new computer?Could I still have full access to my games by installing from logging in to the app store?

As long as you log into the store with the same id and the app remains in the Mac App Store then you will be able to re-download it - it will show in the Purchases tab in the store for re-downloading.

  • What happened to idvd after installing mac osx7.5

I restored my imac and upgraded to mac os x 7.5.  I noticed that iDVD is not in the applications folder.  Now I can not open a dvd project that I was working on.

iDVD is not now nor ever has been part of OS X. It was part of iLife. You can get it back by reinstalling iLife from your iLife DVD or from the original discs that came with your computer.
