What happens to your previous ATT plan if you get an iPhone?

Hi all,
I have a family plan for ATT and wondered what would happen to it if I upgraded to an iPhone. Does ATT replace my current plan with the $79 a month plan, or does it just tack on $20 to what I currently have?
Cheers

Hi, I already had a family ATT plan. If you have a text message portion to your plan (per phone) then that is substituted/replaced with the iPhone data plan you pick. I actually ended up a little cheaper. I am not a big texter so our plan $ was slightly lower since i chose the $20 "data(texting)" plan. The only sneaky part on ATT part is that activating the iPhone plan pushes you into a brand new 2 year contract starting the day you activate the iPhone. It is a shame that Apple chose ATT which seems to have the worst internet speed and still has drop signal problems more than verizon. So I am stuck with ATT for 2 more years.

  • Installing Windows XP on macbook pro - what happens to your mac afterwards?

    Hello,
First time mac user, and I miss windows for it's wide girth of video games, so I am thinking to install windows xp with boot camp assistant.
What happens to your mac afterwards? Does it run as perfectly smooth as before? Does it get slower? Does it develop weird glitches? Will it crash and freeze? If you don't like it, can you restore your computer to how it was before?
And if you download a video game torrent that has a virus even if you scanned it with anti-virus software through windows, and the virus infects your mac, does it only affect the windows partition or does it affect your entire mac?
    Thanks,
    Purplestar

Would formatting the partitions differently (where so the windows partition cannot even see the mac partition) prevent drive erasure?
Not really. Under normal circumstances, neither OS X or Windows would let you erase or format the startup drive, but a lot of effort goes into crafting Windows malware to subvert even its most basic protections. If the malware is sufficiently crafty, it could conceivably attack the low level formatting that defines the partition scheme of the drive, bypassing any attempts to hide a partition.
Note that this would be possible with OS X as well, but malware has to get past the defenses of any OS before it can do anything so fundamental. Both OS X & Windows 7 (if not the earlier versions) get high marks for security. It is just that the risk of this happening is greater with Windows because of the sheer volume & diversity of attacks focused on that OS.
That's why it is so important to have effective, up-to-date anti-virus software when running Windows. It isn't so much that any malware could do this today. The concern is that some clever new type of attack could appear & do this, perhaps as a byproduct of trying to take control of the machine & hide code or data where there would normally be no trace of it.
Thanks peeps! I just got a 500 GB harddrive and I'm trying to figure out how best to partition it as a web designer so I can safely use windows.
As you probably know, Boot Camp Assistant is designed to easily handle the necessary formatting chores to set the drive up for dual booting, & there is no reason not to use it. I'm not by any means an expert on Windows & I don't know how much design work you plan on doing on the Windows side, so I can't really suggest appropriate sizes for the two partitions, other than to emphasize the need to leave enough room on the Windows partition for the anti-virus software.
Also, on a related topic, do not forget that you need to back up at least all your user-created files for both OS's, & that this should be done on an entirely separate drive that can physically be disconnected from your Mac for the best insurance against any misfortune, including but not limited to successful malware attacks.

Everything that was on your classic should also have been in your library, and that backed up to another drive. If you manually managed the device, and it was the only location holding your playlists, and it has become corrupted, there really isn't much hope. See Corrupt iPod classic. There may be a chance to recover media stored on it if is isn't stored elsewhere.

  • What happens if your DVD project is over 1 hour long

I know that to get the highest quality image on your DVD that your project should be 1 hour. What happens if your project is longer than that? let's say one hour ane 10 minutes for example. Will Encore still pop out a DVD only with lower quality images?

    Hi Terry.
Of course it won't, although I understand where your concerns come from - blame marketing speak for this!.
It's basically nonsense - Hollywood have been outputting films on DVD running well past the 1 hour mark for over a decade now.
What determines the final image quality on any DVD has much, much more going on than simple running time.
Initially, you should start with the highest quality assets available to you. A lot of the time, this will be SD Video - Standard Definition Video - at 720x480 pixels if in NTSC regions, or 720x576 in PAL regions. If it is higher than this, it is a form of High(er) Definition video. That would introduce our first variable, as high definition source material needs to be correctly scaled or reduced in resolution to SD.
Then it needs to be transcoded into a DVD compliant compressed data format called MPEG-2, standing for the Motion Picture Experts Group, although some wags would claim it really stads for "moving pictures by educated guesswork". There are many encoders out there, and some are frankly better than others at all settings, whilst others work well in some cases but not in others. It's a bit of a minefield. Encore's MainConcept encoder is pretty good.
Quality here depends on the available bitrate, which depends on running time divided by available disc space, with added complexity caused by quality of source, quality of encoder & rapidity of motion in the source.
Basically, the more action in the film (or explosions, fires - anything difficult to encode because of fast motion etc) the more bits that section will need so another trick is using VBR or CBR - Variable bitrate will use fewer bits when it can in order to use more when it has to. VBR will always vary the bitrate to maintain quality. CBR uses the same number of bits, regardless of content, and will only ever vary the quality or (in best case scenario) waste disc space.
If using Dolby Digital Audio, which is 0.192kbps for stereo, this leaves you with up to 9,500kbps for film.
A DVD9 has 65,000 avalable MegaBits for use (after subtracting an overhead) so a 3 hour film would run for 10,800 seconds.
Audio MegaBits used we cancalculate as it is a fixed bitrate, so 0.192 x 10,800 = 2073.6MegaBits.
    65,000 - 2073.6 = 62926.4 MegaBits remaining
This gives you a video bitrate of 62926.4/10800 = 5.83Mbps, or 5,830kbps for your video bitrate. That's almost 6Mbps, and a lot of hollywood come in at less than this. a 2-pass VBR would be your best fit, with the minimum at 2,000, the maximum at 6,000 and the target at 5,000 (Some encoders cheat here and set the maximum internaly to the spec limits - I do not recommend trying this in settings though).
A well-encoded film at an average bitrate of 5,000 kbps is not going to look terrible by any stretch although a lot does depend on those variables.
    Hope this helps

  • What happened to saved previously used e-mail addresses?

What happened to saved previously used e-mail addresses?  I don't use Outlook for contacts.

I REALLY hope Adobe will fix this, though I don't think they see a problem here. I don't use outlook, and I am truly frustrated by the slow process of copying and pasting the same email address over and over. The original AdobeSendNow was a fine program, but the new version is really buggy and I am hoping this gets straightened out soon. I also am having error messages when I send files.
In general I am very happy with Adobe products, and wish to stay with them, but I may have to start shopping another file sending program that doesn't give me error messages 25% of the way through a send process. I work on short turnaround times as part of my exceptional customer service, and I can't afford to have that reputation compromised.
(To Adobe's credit, as of today, March 11th, they are responding in a timely matter, and are looking into the issue for me, so I will give them a chance to work on this error problem).

    whoyaboo wrote:
Would I have to disconnect my extra line from the family plan if I get the iphone? No, you can use an iPhone with your current line, but I'm not really sure what you're asking here.  Did you add an extra line to the Family Plan to buy the iPhone at the upgrade price? what does the EMAIL & WEB -SMARTPHONE $29.99 included? This includes unlimited 3G data access and Verizon's e-mail program, you can also use the e-mail program included with the iPhone, or a web-based interface. How much data do I get to use a month before getting over charges? The $29.99 package is truly unlimited, use as much data as you like! I have a internet wireless card that makes a hot spot does that mean I wouldn't need a internet package for the iphone? You CAN connect your iPhone via the hotspot over WiFi, but I don't think you would want to.  The data speed will probably be the same, and the package inlcuded with your iPhone is unlimited (where the hotspot has a limit).  Regardless, you MUST have the $29.99 package on any line the iPhone is active on.

When you eneter information into iTunes Producer for uploading, the info must match what is in the internal metadata. In this case, the book is called Mississippi, but in  iTunes Producer it is spelled Misssissippi. There is an extra "s". This will cause an error.

You should reinstall OS X. See the following for reinstalling instructions for Lion/Mountain Lion or Snow Leopard:
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    Do the following:
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Can you get an iphone 5 at target that uses AT&T or Verizon network and use the Straight Talk plan from Walmart?

Can you get an iphone 5 at target that uses AT&T or Verizon network and use the Straight Talk plan from Walmart? I don't have AT&T or Verizon network and I don't want to get them but I was just wondering if you can get the iphone 5 that is at target and use it for the straight talk plan. I will be getting the straight talk plan but I would like to do some research on the iphone 5 first for straight talk. At walmart the phone is $544.99 and I think it will be a lot cheaper to buy it at target.
    Thank You!

When I use find file http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/30073/find-file (which does tend to find files that "Finder" can't), it's not coming up with any other itunes library files that have been modified in the past week, which I know it would have been - unfortunately, I don't have a very recent backup of the hard drive.  It would be a few months old so it wouldn't have the complete library on it....any ideas?  I'm wondering if restarting the computer might help but have been afraid to do so in case it would make it harder to recover anything...I was looking at this thread https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4211589?start=0&tstart=0 in the hopes that it might have a helpful suggestion but it's definitely a different scenario.
