What hardware do I need to obtain before I can upgrade firefox?

Can anyone help? I have a Mac G4 running OS 10.4.11 with firefox & safari.
these are the firefox details;
Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X 10.4; en-GB; rv:1.9.2.23) Gecko/20110920 Firefox/3.6.23
I'm having terrible trouble with both, but get a message when I try to upgrade to newer browsers that my setup does not support the upgrades. The auto software updater says there are no updates available.
My G4 Mac is a 400Mhz powerPC with 1.19Gb SDRAM. I would love to know how to upgrade the hardware so it will accept newer software! I have 2 identical G4s but only use one, the other was going to be set up as a slave (?) by a techie mate but I don't want this done if it is not going to improve my internet use.

Hello aliberry, [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-no-longer-works-mac-os-10-4-or-powerpc#os=mac&browser=fx21 Firefox no longer works with Mac OS X 10.4 or PowerPC processors] like yours, and [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-no-longer-works-mac-os-x-10-5#os=mac&browser=fx21 Firefox no longer works with Mac OS X 10.5]....., so you need Mac OS X 10.6 and later with an Intel x86 processor
512 MB of RAM and 200 MB hard drive space (at least) .
with you current PPC Mac OS X 10.4 the latest firefox is 3.6.28(it is in the above link) but not supported any more.
if you can't upgrade to 10.6(and later) see: http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox/

  • TS4009 My iCloud storage is full and I need to delete some stuff.  Can anyone tell me what is important to keep and what not?  I have done all I can but it still says I need to delete before I can back up on iCloud.

My iCloud storage is full and I need to delete some stuff.  Can anyone tell me what is important to keep and what not?  I'm just not sure what I really should back up each night and what doesn't really matter.  I know my photo's should back up, but other than that, I'm not really sure.
I have taken some pics off and videos and appt, but it still says I need to delete before I can back up on iCloud.  I'm starting to wonder if its a glitch with my personal phone.  Can anyone help me?
    Thanks!

Only you can decide what's critical to back up.  One option is to import your photos and videos to your computer (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083), then either delete them from your phone or exclude the camera roll from your backup in settings.
You might try going to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage, tap the name of your device under Backups, under Backup Options tap Show All Apps, then turn them all to Off (including camera roll), then look at the size of your next backup.  If it doesn't go down significantly, something else is wrong.

I have a Mac connected to Internet via DSL modem. Just bought an iPad2 and need to know what hardware do I need to add wireless LAN so I can use iPad anywhere in the house. Will a Linksys router work with Apple? Can Mac be "hardwired" and iPad wireless? Probably stupid questions but I need to learn. Thanks.

Thanks for the info. You are correct. I was speaking in general terms here based on my experience with the two devices in day to day use, and not in terms of exact specifications.
A better choice would have been to say that the "coverage" is about the same with the edge going to the Extreme....due to the newer mutliple antenna design.
We sure could use more help on the forums. Hope that you will become a regular.
    Hi Bob
RF is a minefield, but one that I have worked in for ages, the most critical factor in my experience is location, location, location!
Better routers have more intelligently designed antenna systems, output power as I said is the same, radiation pattern (coverage) is dependent on antennas and physical location more than all other factors.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
The latest OS X version is OS X 10.8.3, so first check that you can use OS X Mountain Lion. First, check that your Mac supports Mountain Lion > http://www.apple.com/osx/specs If it's compatible, open the App Store and purchase Mountain Lion. While it's being downloaded, make a backup of your files and check that your apps are compatible > http://www.roaringapps.com
When the download finishes, the OS X installer will appear, so follow the steps. After upgrading, you will have 10.8.3.
If your Mac isn't compatible with Mountain Lion, check that you can run Lion > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4949 If you can run OS X Lion, call Apple to purchase it > http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57 After upgrading to Lion, you will have 10.7.5.
To set up iCloud after upgrading, open System Preferences > iCloud. Read > http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup

  • Need FCP 5.1 before I can upgrade to 5.1.2

I have just reinstalled by FCP Studio and before I can upgrade to 5.1.2 I have to have 5.1 ! Where do I find it? ASearch of the Apple site doesn't bring it up. Thanks

Are you asking why you can't install FCS 5.1.2 from 5 on your Mac.
FCP 5.1 is a Universial version of the application. It is made to run natively on Intel-based Macs.
You need the crossgrade from FCS 5 to 5.1. It's not a complete necessity.
There's not much of a significance between 5 and 5.1
    But here's the link:

  • Do I have to upgrade to Snow Leopard before I can upgrade to Lion?

Chrome will no longer update unless I update my MacBook.  I have Leopard. Do I have to upgrade to Snow Leopard first before i can upgrade to Lion or can I go straight to Lion? And should I back up my hard drive first before I do an upgrade?

You need Apple Store to upgrade to Lion (unless you bought a usb with Lion on it).
Snow Leopard will have the App Store once you update.
This is how I did it Leopard --> Snow Leopard --> update to get the App Store --> Lion.
And Yes, you should always back up your hard drive before doing any upgrade : )
Btw, here's the unofficial way of updating Leopard to Lion.  I never tried it, can't say it will work, so do it at your own risk.

  • What hardware do I need to play music from iPad?

    Hi all!
I've seen this done, but never asked how it's done! This may be a simple question for almost all of you, but I don't even know how to phrase it to look up via a web search!
I just ordered an iPad (4th generation) and one of the things I would like to do is play the music from it remotely. I work at a retreat center and during sessions/prayers we play music. I would like to do this at the podium rather than running back and forth to a dock (for an iPad, if there's such a thing) at the back of the room to push those buttons; we do this currently with our cd player.
So, what kind of hardware would I need to do so? Also, would it be possible to tie in this hardware to our overhead speaker system? What apps on the iPad would control this? Please keep in mind while I am a huge Apple fan and have an iMac & iPod, I am limited in my knowledge (so far) with a iPad. And my boss, who leads these services, is not the most tech savvy person, so it would need to be simple to operate too!
Thanks for any and all advise!!!!

"Rather than testing the limits of Bluetooth, maybe you should consider buying an Apple AirPort Express router and setting up a separate wifi network just for this link. No idea whether the audio output of the Express will match the "Hi-Z" Aux phono inputs electrically, but it seems worth a try if you have an Apple Store (or dealer) in the area. The price is within the range of BT mobile speakers offered through the Apple Store, and I know it can handle the range easily."
Okayyyy... the AirPort Express router sound like a more practical idea. I'll go with that; but I still have the same issue with connection to the amp. And I am not at all well versed in electronics to understand "Hi-Z" matching thingie . In your best guess, can connection be made with AirPort to our amp system via a bare wire connection??
"You used to be able to buy connector-X-to-bare-wire cables (for various values of X) at places like Radio Shack; you may still be able to do so. Failing that, buy a separate X-to-X or X-to-Y cable and cut off one end of that, rather than cutting a cable supplied with a BT (or WiFi) receiver, so you can return the receiver if it doesn't work for you."
Again, a more pratical idea, mark! I will look for such a cable; we have a Radio Shack down the road. To ask a dumb question with the "x-to-x or x-to-y" you mention above. I know one value is for the connector (x or y: type of jack, as like a headphone one or speaker). The other value has no change and would that possibly be the red and white lines commonly found on standard jacked connectors?
Third question: those red and white lines - are they different in the type of wire that is used in it's construction and that's why they are so marked? If I strip for bare wire connection, do I have to keep them marked for what will go where to the amp?
I just want to make the right decisions before any purchasing, mainly to see if it can be done!!!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

  • What hardware do I need to monitor the signal from an incremental encoder?

We are trying to implement a feeding
solution for one of our cutting machines and I’m not quite sure how to proceed.
I have attached a document from the NI website that outlines exactly what we are
trying to do but does not go into detail on any of the concepts like programming
    and implementation.
    1.) We have a NI DAQPad-6015
connected to a SC-2345 which has one SCC-CTR01 module installed.  Which this
configuration can we read the incremental encoder signal and use to setup our
cutting machine as outlined in the attached document?  If not what is the
minimum amount of hardware we need to sample the signal from the incremental
encoder and obtain both the direction and magnitude of the
    movement?
2.) If we wanted to use the
information obtained from the encoder and subsequently send a signal to a
stepper motor controller or perhaps a PLC what additional hardware would be
    needed.
    Thanks,
    Chris

    Incremental Encoder Example.pdf ‏94 KB

    Hi Chris,
    For quadrature encoder measurements your
hardware is not the ideal equipment. The 6015 doesn't provide X4
decoding. That means, that the board counts only one raising edge of
one phase. Still, if you connect phase A and B to the counter inputs,
it will count up and down, depending on the direction of the axis, but
as already mentioned, you will loose 75% of the available resolution. Here is some more information about this topic.
The document that you are referring to recommends a PCI-6624
and this is in fact a much better option. This board provides X4
decoding and isolated inputs not only for phase A and B but also for
the Z-index (not available for the 6015).
If you need a USB-solution and if you can work with TTL voltages, you might have a look at the USB-6218, that provides isolated I/Os.
For motion control there are various options. E. g. you could use an NI motion control device like the PCI-7332,
but there are also options to communicate with external motion
controllers through CANopen, RS232 or various fieldbusses. Depending on
the solution that you choose, you may need a bus interface that
provides support for your programming software.
    I hope that helps,

  • How do I control furnace temps (ramp and soak)? What hardware do I need?

    Please help me~~~~
I use Labview version 8.2 and Compact Field Point.  I currently have a small Lindberg/Blue furnace (120V, 6.8A, 8KW) that has a mounted Lindberg/Blue UP150 programmable controller.  The temperature control is not currently connected to my PC (and that's a pain).
I would like to replace the present furnace controller with labview control through Compact Field Point.  I need to create a ramp and soak program in labview.  My
    program must be able to:
Soak at 300C for 30 min
    ramp to 650C
soak at 650C for 15 min
    ramp to 700C
soak at 700C for 10 min
    cool to 300C
repeat the above steps as many times as desired.
I am familar with labview but have never controlled any furnace temps.  I have figured out that I will need the PID control toolkit.  But I'm totally stumped about the hardware I will need.  I have searched everywhere but can't find an explanation.  I have Compact Field Point and the furnace.  What hardware goes inbetween?  Just what hardware does the PID toolkit (PID VI's) send a signal to?  It seems to me the PID would read a thermocouple and then send a signal to some sort of current regulator that sends a varying current to the furnace.  Am I way off?  How do I set this up.  Can anyone recommend a good book or web site that explains how to set up furnace control using labview?
I really appreciate your help.  I'm at the end of my road without it.  Thanks alot.

If you can, use a solid state relay as this will be the most reliable and noise free solution to switching. Switching 8kW loads with a relay can lead to arcing of the contacts after a while (and other issues), this is bad news for computers. For an 8kW device you will need to mount the device on some form of heatsink / dissapation surface. Solid state relays normally use an opto-isolated coupling which can usually be powered in the range 3 to 24v. This is connected to the control output of your selected controller.
For control of this sort I personally I prefer a dedicated controller, I use a PC for data logging, program management and monitoring. This is for reliability more than anything else, an NI controller won't come with integrated display and controls to set the device and the foot print in the panel is considerably larger. They also take an age to boot in comparison. You should also consider that you could get an electrical engineer to fit a standard controller with suitable solid state relay etc. and that will help you meet any health and safety requirements easily and quickly! Don't forget than any modifications will need to meet local regulatory requirements such as CE and thus circuit diagrams must normally be produced etc.
If I have the choice of selecting a controller, I like the Eurotherm range of temperature controllers, they are available with varying options just like the controller mentioned in the thread. There are drivers available in this forum and the NI web site for the devices.
    http://www.eurotherm.com/
There is also OPC support and the diagnostic software available from Eurotherm is good.
But if a device has a specific manufacturers controller on it I might select one from the same family. Often I look around the plant / factory and see what models are in use. Using a model / type that already in use makes it easy for support in the factory and reduces support calls!
    Hope these thoughts help out.

  • What Hardware do I need ?

I have a Power Mac G4 Tower running OS 10.4.11. I also have a camcorder that only has composite video (analog) and Analog Audio. I want to be able to move movies from the camcorder to iMovie and then make DVDs to run on my G4 or another computer.
I have no idea what hardware I need to buy. I could not do a lot of searching here as I am on a 24.4K dial up connection. I am looking for reasonable quality and a reasonable price. Thanks
    Paul

Hi Paul - if you do not have many movies in analogue format, then your best hardware choice would actually be to buy a mini dv camcorder. Then future films will be in the native iMovie format.
But see here for a converter:
    http://reviews.cnet.com/tv-tuner-adapters/canopus-advc-55-video/4505-9332_7-3079 2305.html
You may be best to get a shop to do the conversions, and buy a dv camcorder instead - possibly a better longer term solution!

I have a macbook 2.1 with 1GB of memory.  I have two issues- both related to lack of sufficient memory.  Issue#1 is upgrade to LION requires more memory than I have and I d  like to upgrade.  Issue 2 is that when ever i try to backup to idisk  I get a message telling me I need to remove some files from my start up disk to make room.   I don t know what I can remove without creating problems.  So  I think I need to add memory.  Is this possible?

OWC tests have found that there is a slight speed increase with having two 2gb sticks in rather than one 1gb and one 2gb. Your model is in the gray lines at the bottom of the graph. http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/Memory_Benchmark/Apple_MacBook/
You can upgrade to 10.6 with no problems. Any program that runs under 10.5 will run under10.6. You might have to upgrade some drivers for printers, etc.... And you will have to install Rosetta if you have any Power PC applications http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/article/snow_leopard_installing_rosetta/
To upgrade your iLife and iWork. If you only want iPhoto or other single apps from iLife '11 you can get them from the App Store after you've upgraded to 10.6.6. iPhoto, iMovie or Garage Band for $15 each and Pages, Keynote or Numbers from iWork '09 for $20 each.
You can order a Snow Leopard 10.6 install disk for $29 as long as you have at least1gb of RAM and 5gb of free space on your hard drive. http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY
Once you are at 10.6.8 you can buy Lion for $29 from the App Store if you have at least a model 2,1 MacBook. Lion will require at least 2gb of RAM but really needs 4gb to run smoothly. Also Lion doesn't run any Power PC programs. To see if you have any Power PC programs go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up select Applications under Software. Then look under Kind to see if any of your applications are listed as Power PC. Universal and Intel will run under Lion.
Before Mac switched to Intel processors they used Power PC processors from 1994 to 2005. Power PC 601 through 604, G3, G4 and G5. Applications written for the Power PC processors need the application called Rosetta to run on Intel processors. This was part of the Operating System in 10.4 and 10.5 but was an optional install in 10.6. With 10.7 Lion Apple dropped all support for Power PC applications.
