What hardware works with Logic

Hi all! I've been a relatively happy Pro Tools user for quite a while now and know my way around it pretty well. I've been using LE 6.4 on OS 10.3.9 and 5.1.1 on 9.2.2 with a Digi 001 as hardware. Though I'm happy with Pro Tools I keep reading about Pros who compose in Logic...Gareth Jones, Depeche Mode, Alan Wilder, Erasure, Pet Shop Boys....and then bring the tracks into PT for mixing. So I've always wondered about doing this...adding Logic to my system. I tried a version of Logic a bunch of years back....Logic VS, a horrible program that was supposed to work with Roland DAWs, but really didn't. I swore I'd never use Logic again, but that was before apple bought it.
But what hardware does todays Logic work with? I'm pretty sure I can't use my Digi 001 to record into Logic because of Digidesigns' proprietary scheme. I am NOT using the Mac audio in as a DAC. So what would be my options?

Hi Gothboy,
As long as you have a working Digidesign Core Audio hardware driver, you can use your Digi001 as a front-end for Logic Pro. Make sure you visit Digidesign's website and download any patches / updates that might help. Better yet, try to upgrade to a digi002 when you can (I have one for over three years running Logic Pro)
PS I have worked with DM...they rule...and I do know what they used. You are correct in that they compose in Logic, and mix in PT. Except for the last album, which was all PT. But Martin loves Logic, and still uses it now.
Cheers

  • Apogee Ensemble or Symphony to work with Logic?

    Hello,
I'm considering to buy Apogee multi I/O hardware to work with Logic Pro in my studio.
The choice is between an Ensemble interface and a Symphony System (Rosetta 800).
I know that in terms of quality the second one is better and that Ensemble is more affordable in terms of price.
What I'd like to know is how does Ensemble work in terms of LATENCY (I hate it) and if VBus is a big +point for Symphony when mixing and using heavy plug-ins and instruments like NI Battery or B4 (for example).
Could any one help me in this choice.
    Thanks!

    Thanks
Then I'm more interested in buying an Ensemble instead of a Symphony System for my project/mixing studio.
Yeah, my work is all in Logic.
I produce reggae music. I record some live instrument and vocals into logic, then I work with'em and some virtual insturments and plug-ins.
I thought that VBus could help to heva a more efficient RAM usage, allowing me to run big plugins "outside" Logic.
Talking about latency, it could also be due to my USB keyboard/controller, I know.
I asked about that also because using my apogee duet with logic I had some latency when recording a voice in a porject with virtual instruments and plugins. Maybe I do something wrong.
    Big Up
p.s. I visited your site. Nice productions
Do you know some links where I could master my tracks (reggae)?

  • Work with logic - not against it ( I learned now)

As an old user of logic, since way back I had BIG problems, when starting on 8.x.x
First I wanted everything to look N feel like before.
Tried all kind of tricks amoung other, to get rit of the transport bar ( former open trash, now 8.0.1 gone trick)
Even tried to import 7.x.x project and made them templates ( wanted two windows horizontly)( arrange+mixer/piano roll)
Now after a few days, I suddently found out..
Instead of "working against" logic, its much easier to "work with" logic.
And after accepting this, everything goes a lot faster..
especially the piano roll ( or other windows) open short cut, depending on what region you have highlightet, speed things up..
sorry for being so "old fashioned" and "stubburn", before I found out how to work "the way" apple/logic team want me to..
Their ideas is actually quite smart..
Still would like to work with more windows, get rit of transportbar, global track, the entire BIN
And instead get som more space
btw It would be nice to be able to be able to zoom in eg the EXS sampler..
All I need it for, is to load samples..
a short cut to "mini view" ( just the name of the samples loaded) would be greatly appriciated..

Running fine here, no crashes, plenty of horsepower to burn using lots of tracks, plugs, and 128 samples buffer size. Couple of the commonly reported minor bugs here and there. I like 8 much better than 7; breezier and simpler in many ways. I would agree that it required a mental adjustment initially. If your system is running as poorly as you say, your problem is not about Logic working "with" or "against," and you haven't yet experienced L8's intended functionality or design.
Rather than assume Logic is useless, you might check to see if your experience is common and therefore indicative of the software. For example, you ask why you should have to "go up to 1024 SPB, or whatever, to avoid this appalling behaviour" and the short answer is you shouldn't and most of us don't. Maybe there's a hardware or software conflict somewhere, or some components in the wrong folders, or maybe a problem with ram or a drive - these can be insidious.

  • Wha wha pedal work well with GarageBand but don't want to work with logic pro 9.1.8 on my MBPro end 2011

Install on MacBook Pro end of 2011 with logic Pro 9.1.8 and Apogee GIO interface guitar
The wha wha pedal work well with GarageBand but not working with Logic Pro
Only the red light turning on and off at the screnn of the MBPro and on my Apogee GIO (Guitar Interface Midi) switch button but the effect wha wha won't work.
    HOPE YOU UNDERSTAND MY ENGLISH

    Pancenter...
Yes... but I have come across some setups that came with a native SL (and even one Lion!) installation.. that somehow had a corrupted or older Prokit installed for some unknown reason... and given it's a quick fix to try.. I thought I'd mention it..
I frankly don't think it is entirely a Prokit issue itself, but it wouldn't do any harm to try and install v7 just in case it is part of the problem...
    +1 on the UAD stuff....
Also, at the time it crashed... according to the logs...the OP was running Ableton Live at the same time, presumably rewired with Logic... so add all that together with UAD plugins... and that's quite a load on the system...
Finally in thread 32 there is a weird exception msg relating to the Trash2 plugin.. that I haven't seen before...
    Thread 32:
    0   libSystem.B.dylib
    0x94c29afa mach_msg_trap + 10
    1   libSystem.B.dylib
    0x94c2a267 mach_msg + 68
    2   ...tope.audioplugins.AU.Trash2

    3   libSystem.B.dylib
    0x94c57259 _pthread_start + 345
    4   libSystem.B.dylib
    0x94c570de thread_start + 34
That might be nothing... but as i said, I haven't seen that one before and given what else is going on.. it might be involved too... or nothing to do with that at all!

  • Melodyne 2.6 not working with Logic 7.1.1

    Hi,
those of you who are using Melodyne with Logic and Tiger, does it
work with the Bridge mode ?
I've been trying it now with several different takes and all I get
out of it is sort of a hummingbird like a whistle
or pigs been strangled..take your pick..is it just me ??
It's the 2.6.0.6 Bridge version with Logic 7.1.1 and Tiger 10.4.2.
    Thanks

Wll first answering my own question I may have found out the culprit.
After launching my mLan auto connector and looking at MIDI/Audio set up I found that even Logic was working allright with my 01X though it still insisted I was using Internal audio instead of mLan. After changing that, the first and so far only test, I was able to use Melodyne OK.
Otherwise I repeat what others already said here that although Logic lists Melodyne 2.6.0.6 as incompatible it will work.
I guess now that v3 is due out in about a month we'll never see the 2.6. updated to fully work with Logic 7.

  • Will the m-audio project mix i/o work with Logic X?

    Hi,
    I have a m-audio project mix i/o interface/control surface.
Will this work with Logic X?
    Thanks,
    Mike

If it works now on 10.8.4, then yes. This depends on OS X and drivers (if needed), not on Logic. Logic can only 'see' hardware that the OS can see.

  • Recording Interfaces that work with Logic Studio

Hey there! I'm pretty much a noob to Logic Studio. I've been using garageband and reason 4 before that. I've had an M-Audio Fast Track that worked alright with Garageband, but it won't work with Logic, at least for me. I did some research and found out that this happened for most people.
So I was wondering, what's a good recording interface that would work well with Logic (which should then work with garageband) that works very well and worth the money that's paid for it?
    Specs:
    Macbook Pro
    version 10.5.2
2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
    Thanks alot.

Welcome to the forum jareddddddd, i do believe the problem your having with the M-Audio is the the drivers for intel, at the moment are Beta drivers.
Beta meaning they are going thought testing and isn't official drivers, therefore it might work or it might not.
As flood123 said the Duet will be much better, compare to low end M-Audio interface, which will sound far better and integrates well with Logic.
Also Fire-Face by R.M.E is a good interface, almost forget to mention Lavry interface which sounds way better than the two already mention that's only my opinion though.
Personally i have found it to be my preferred choice compare to Apogee low end interface that hasn't got the C77 clock work that Apogee flag-ship interface has, such as the Rossette 800 and AD/DA 16 carries.
Try and find a local music store and try out a few interface that is hook-up to L.P. by Fire wire and maybe you'll have a better choice in choosing.

  • 01v96i Yamaha...will it work with logic pro X

I bought the new Yamaha 01v96i Mixer but I can't make it works with Logic pro, in the list of available DAW I only find the 01v96 which is not the same and in-fact it does not work with the 01v96i.
Does anyone have an idea on how to set Logic for it or at least does anyone know if the new Logic Pro X has the new 01v96i in the list?

    Lyford,
Again, in regards to hardware... it is not about LPX compatibility.. It is about compatibility with the OS X version and it's CoreAudio... Once you 'get' that point then everything else makes sense...
Tascam are notorious about leaving owners of "End of Line" products 'high and dry' when OS X is updated... and as you have found... the 1884 is not compatible with Mountain Lion 10.8.4 and likely will never be so... because Tascam will not be releasing Mountain Lion drivers for it.. so, it is not something you can use with LPX, which requires Mountain Lion 10.8.4 as a minimum requirement.
As an aside, Apple have acknowledged they make an error in simply using the LP9 Hardware compatibility chart for LPX (as LP9 could be used with earlier OS X versions for which there were drivers for the 1884 for example) and have said they will be issuing an updated version "in the near future"......

  • Does mainstage work with logic express 9

hi ,  do all the features and plug-ins work with logic express 9 or are some features disabled .
or are they not compatible at all
    thanks

I have just spoken to two supervisors and 4 underlings about this exact concern and they ABSOLUTELY REFUSE TO BUDGE in regard to a sidegrade or smaller upgrade fee. I have been a loyal Mac user, ****, an EVANGELIST since 1990, spent well over 100 grand on the apple products I needed and I tried being super polite, explained that I had barely had a chance to learn a thing about Express since I bought it in the store after realizing that there was no way I could afford the Logic Pro 9 box sitting next to it.
THE ANSWER IS IF YOU WANT THE NEW, CHEAPER VERSION OF LOGIC PRO 9 AND MAINSTAGE, YOU NEED TO TOSS OUT YOUR ALREADY CANCELLED LOGIC EXPRESS 9 DISKS, FORGET YOU BOUGHT THEM IF YOU CAN, AND, IF YOU WERE DOWNSIZED LIKE I WAS 3 YEARS AGO BECAUSE MY BACK GAVE OUT...
GO AHEAD. SEE IF YOU CAN KEEP YOURSELF FROM THROWING UP WHEN YOU HIT THAT PURCHASE BUTTON ON THE TWO PROGRAMS THEY REDUCED IN PRICE.
REMEMBER, THOUGH...IT IS NOT LOGIC STUDIO YOU ARE GETTING. THEY SPLIT THE BOX UP SO THE REMAINDER OF THE SOFTWARE IN IT WENT INTO FINAL CUT PRO. THE ORIGINAL BOX YOU CAN STILL GET FOR $500 UNTIL THEY SELL OUT.
DON'T SHOOT THE MESSENGER. THIS IS ONE ANGRY EX-EVANGELIST WHO NO LONGER HAS ANY REVERENCE LEFT FOR APPLE. I GUESS WHEN THEY LOST STEVE, THEY LOST TOO MUCH. SOMETHING IS VERY, VERY WRONG ABOUT THIS POLICY. SCREW THE PEOPLE WHO SPENT THE WHOLE AMOUNT, NOBODY AT APPLE REALLY CARES ABOUT ANYTHING EXCEPT WHAT IS LEFT IN YOUR WALLET.
SORRY FOR THE RANT, BUT I AM IN SHOCK AFTER THE LAST TWO HOURS OF TRYING TO GET THEM TO SEE HOW WRONG THIS POLICY IS.
WE HAVE BEEN SHAFTED, BIG TIME. IN THIS ECONOMY, THAT IS ONE HUGE INSULT IMHO.
    GOOD LUCK EVERYONE.

  • Will the Tascam FW-1884 work with Logic Pro X?

    Hello,
I notice that the new Logic is 64 bit only and yet the Tascam FW-1884 is specifically listed as a supported control surface.
Tascam has not released 64 bit drivers for this device!  Can anyone shed any light on this?  Will it work only as a control surface and not an audio interface?  Is the documentation in error?  Anyone have this working with Logic Pro X?
    Thanks,

  • How can I get an old Casio CTK-593 to work with Logic Express?

Title pretty much says it all.
I have a Fast Track USB from M-Audio to connect it to my pc but I don't know how to get it working with Logic.
    Thanks in advance.

Did you check your connection with the audio-midi-setup.app in the programs/utilities folder of your MAC (not "pc" pls)?
If you have a working MIDI connection, you'll need to open up a software instrument track within Logic to play Logic's instruments via your keyboard.

  • Cant get motif XF8 to work with logic 9

I cannot get my motif XF8 to work with Logic 9, nor is it working with any other DAW.  I have used the motif since last summer and it has always been hit or miss with MIDI.  Sometimes it works, other times it doesn't.  The cord is connected appropriately. I am mystified, and embarrassed to admit that I really don't get MIDI at all.  I have a  Macbook pro that is a year old or so.  Please help.

Uh . . . . .  I had to adjust Motif as in Utility/Control then set the MIDI In/Out to USB.   I felt very silly when I found this out.

  • Has anyone figured out how to make the Yamaha 01V96i mixer work with Logic 9.1.8

Has anyone figured out how to make the Yamaha 01V96i mixer work with Logic 9.1.8 as a control surface ?

    In YAMAHA01v96i:
Go to DIO/SETUP select Generic DAW. Go to MIDI settings page and set the desired port (personally I use Number 1), Select the same audio frequency you use in your DAW (I use 44.1KhZ)...at this point You should save a scene in you 01V96i to avoid to repeat all the procedure again.
Open studio manager, go to patch and set the input port from 17 to 32 respectively to USB1-USB16 (this will give you the return from you DAW to the 01v96i
Save again the scene overwriting the old one.
    in LOGIC
Click on preferences, select Audio then select 01v96i, then click on control surface and select Mackie design Baby HUI and in the midi session set the same port that you've been setting on the Yamaha 01V96i (Port 1 if you follow this example).
    That's more or less it.
    It worked for me...so far

All iDevices until 2012 (excepting 3rd generation iPad) used the 30-pin connector: http://igyaan.in/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/idevice-30-pin-connector2.png
Newer iDevices: iPhone 5, iPad 4th generation, iPad Mini, and iPod touch 5th generation use the Lightning connector. If you do not have one of these devices, it does NOT use Lightning. http://www.macobserver.com/imgs/teaser_images/20120912lightning_connector_usb.jp g
