What heatsink do I need? DV7t-6100 quad

Hi all,
I've spent hours on the phone with HP techsupport and parts departments trying to find out the partnumber for my heatsink. The fan is having problems and it's not software or dust buildup related so I figure the heatsink is a good place to start. Unfortunately there are a ton of options for my laptop. Even more unfortunate, it seems that no one in HP support can answer a simple question about what part is compatible with my system. The only answer I received is that all the heatsinks are the same and there's no difference or issue with compatibility. I know that's a bunch of bull as a simple google search shows that they all look vastly different so I'm hoping someone here can help.
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02842278.pdf
The service manual link above details the three possibilities.
1. "For use only with computer models equipped with an Intel processor and a graphics subsystem with 2.0-GB of discrete memory."
2. "For use only with computer models equipped with an Intel processor and a graphics subsystem with UMA memory."
3. "For use only with computer models equipped with an Intel processor."
Specs:
Dv7t-6100 - Win 7 Ultimate
Quadcore sandybridge intel processor
Radeon 6770M graphics
Product: LM418AV
If you need more information I'll try to provide it. I'm not entirely sure what those three options entail though I would assume it's a combination of my processor and graphics.
Thanks for any help.

Hi:
The specs you posted for your model indicate it has an Intel processor with a discrete video adapter (6770M).
Does your graphics spec in the control panel indicate the gpu has 2 GB of memory?
IMO, the heatsink you would get would be the one you listed first.
UMA memory is for PC's with just the onboard Intel HD graphics, and Lord knows what the 3rd one means!

  • Dv7t-6100 quad second hard drive

I have just bought a dv7t-6100 cto quad edition notebook, and I really love it! I'd like to add a second hard drive, and the caddy is already installed. I think I need a cable, though.
Can anyone give me a part number?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi:
It looks like you have to order the whole hard drive kit:
Hard Drive Hardware Kit (not illustrated, includes bracket, connector cable, shield, and screws) Part # 641306-001
See chapter 3 of your service manual for the illustrated parts catalog. I found the above part on page 30.

  • SSD install in dv7t - 6100 CTO

I installed a Intel 330 Series SSD in the dv7t - 6100 notebook and the Intel toolbox reports the transfer rate as 3Gb/s instead of the 6Gb/s that I thought this notebook should be. I have replaced the original HDD with this SSD and in doing so loaded the windows operating system from scratch or clean however you want to think about it. Is there anything that I need to do to get the  port to SATA 3 so the SSD will operate at the spec speed of 6Gb/s?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

I don't want to be right about this, believe me.
But I have a sneaking suspicion that I am.
Your notebook is supposed to have the HM65 chipset according to the service manual, which is why I posted the link to the intel specs on the chipset.
If you want to confirm what chipset you have in the PC, use a free utilty like cpu-z.
    http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html
I highly doubt the chipset is defective.
If you installed the chipset driver and RST driver (under storage), then you have done all that you can.
    You won't be that hosed.
I put an Intel 330 SATA III SSD in my HP Elitebook 6930p (that I know only has a SATA II controller), and I have to tell you that the thing works very nicely.  The WEI went up from 5.9 to a 7.7.
The notebook also boots up much faster.
Since I don't work for HP, I have no idea why they would shortchange a notebook by hooking up the controller to a SATA II port, when there was at least 1 SATA III port available.  But I really believe that they have.
I can't imagine that it saves any (production) money by doing that.

  • Hard drive interface for new dv7t-7000 quad

    Hi.
I just want to know the hdd interface for the newer ivy bridge dv7t-7000 quad laptops.
Does anyone know if it is SATA, SATA 2 or SATA 3?
    Thanks

I run three firewire audio interfaces daisy chained together, 2 Presonus FP10's and an Alesis Multimix8.
This gives me 24 simultaneous inputs. I normally record 24 bit at 88.2 . My iMac has a FW800 and a FW400 port. What I tried to do was run all the interfaces through the 400 and record to a FW800 external hard drive but I it kept dropping out interfaces, even if I used only one interface. I switched firewire cables on the hard drive to a 800/400 so that the hard drive was now operating as a 400 and I did not have any more interface drop outs.
Even though the iMac has 2 firewire ports, they connect to a single cable to the i/o inside the Mac. If I try recording to an external hard drive, that is 24 tracks going into the Mac, back out to the hard drive, back in to the Mac and then back out to the interfaces and on to the monitor speakers. That is a lot to ask of a firewire connection.
So, I record to the internal drive and use the external for backing up and saving the projects.

  • What heatsink fits on KT4AV-L?

    First time MSI user here.
just got the board for dirt cheap and now in process of putting parts together.
I already have an XP 2400+ and now need a heatsink.
no overclocking at all, but would like to keep things cool.
the one capacitor below the socket (above the northbridge) looks awful close as the retention clips are in the same region. not sure what's going to fit here.
any suggestions on what heatsink to use on this setup?
    thanks for any advice!

...and stock AMD heastink from a Barton 2500

    Wellcome to the Forum !
Most any regular heatsink would fit, but you must pay attention the way you seat it because they can fit 180º wrong way. Thermaltake Volcano are named many times so seems to be a good one. If you want to learn how to be sure you'll install it the right way, take a look at "Trouble shooting guide" by Bas, at first part in this Forum, where it is graphically explained.

You also need sound, you can buy a converter with sound OR connect sound directly from laptop to TV.

    hey guys.
i've tried reading up a little but i was hoping someone (or a few people) could give me some straight up answers.
if i want to upgrade my macbook hard drive what all do i need? just the hard drive? or are there other pieces?
also.. whats a good 250GB one? i found this one on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-2-5-Western-Digital-250GB-SATA-Harddrive_W0QQitemZ220271 134397QQihZ012QQcategoryZ158853QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
is that one any good? i just know the name (Western Digital) and have heard good things about them...
    any comments are welcome.
    thanks!

I got a 320GB sata 2.5" hard drive and installed it myself, its easy. I also got a caddy so I can use my old 120GB drive as a back up. Make sure u have everything backed up! Seagate and western digital drives are most popular. I asked similar q and got this answer"
    Extended Hard Drive Preparation
    1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger or Leopard.)
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (only required for Intel Macs) then click on the OK button. Set the number of partitions from the dropdown menu (use 1 partition unless you wish to make more.) Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the volume(s) mount on the Desktop.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
Steps 4-6 are optional but should be used on a drive that has never been formatted before, if the format type is not Mac OS Extended, if the partition scheme has been changed, or if a different operating system (not OS X) has been installed on the drive.
If your backup is bootable, then boot from the external drive and use SuperDuper to clone it back to the newly installed drive.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
That's exactly what you need. A Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter and a HDMI cable. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4241?viewlocale=en_US
This is the only way to view a video on the TV. After connecting your MacBook Air to the TV, image on your TV should show immediately. Then, press Command and F1 keys to mirror your MacBook Air display, and open the video

Of course it doesn't. But you can buy an adaptor from HDMI to the Mini-DisplayPort port on the computer.

  • What adapter do i need to connect my computer to the internet

I am woundering what adapter i need to plug into my computer so that i can  plug my computer directly into the wall and use the internet using a ethernet cord.  I am not wanting to use wify for that does work great. I have to plug my computer directly into the internet using an ethernet cable unfornately the new mac pros do not come with and ethernet port. I am wanting to do this because of 3D gaming they say that i can not use wify to play that particular game but have to be connected directly. I do how ever have thunderbolt port actually two. I also have usb 3.0 the mac store says that i need a thunder bolt ethernet adapter but which one i need to buy. I have been reading alot on those adapters and they say that the adapter is Giabit ethernet adapter will that work with normal internet speeds or is that cable just for a gigabit Network it is hard to understand all the details and what is going to work... I have also heard that the thunderbolt is faster but what the thunder bolt is used for is to connect a display or is it used also to connect to the internet directly. any help on this would be great.. My question again is what adapter do i need to hook my computer directly to the internet?

You need the Thunderbolt to Ethernet adapter > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD463ZM/A/thunderbolt-to-gigabit-ethernet-adap ter
Thunderbolt is a video, audio and data port, so you can use it to connect external displays, external drives or different adapters to connect a display or connect the Mac to the Internet. In the case of Ethernet, you won't notice the Thunderbolt speed, as it's more for external disks

What adapter do I need to connect my 2009 Macbook Pro to my 2007 iMac? I get really confused with all of the different cables out there an I want to make sure I get the correct one.
    Macbook Pro Model is: Late 2009, 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3, OS X 10.9.4 (13E28)
iMac Model: Late 2007, 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB 667 MHZ DDR2 SDRAM, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)
    Thanks!

The 2007 iMac does not support cabled input. see > Target Display Mode: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Like Niel suggest's, your only option is to use a network based connection like > ScreenRecycler
