What heatsink fits on KT4AV-L?

First time MSI user here.
just got the board for dirt cheap and now in process of putting parts together.
I already have an XP 2400+ and now need a heatsink.
no overclocking at all, but would like to keep things cool.
the one capacitor below the socket (above the northbridge) looks awful close as the retention clips are in the same region. not sure what's going to fit here.
any suggestions on what heatsink to use on this setup?
thanks for any advice!
looking at Thermaltake Tr2-M3
Thermaltake Volcano 10
Thermaltake Volcano 9
...and stock AMD heastink from a Barton 2500

Wellcome to the Forum !
Most any regular heatsink would fit, but you must pay attention the way you seat it because they can fit 180º wrong way. Thermaltake Volcano are named many times so seems to be a good one. If you want to learn how to be sure you'll install it the right way, take a look at "Trouble shooting guide" by Bas, at first part in this Forum, where it is graphically explained.

  • Revisited topic: WILL 1.42 COPPER HEATSINK FIT over DUAL 1.25?

    Hi,
So, I have a power mac G4 MDD 2003 w/1.25 dual processors + 2MB cache/processor. Question: before I order for 56 dollars a copper heatsink, will it fit without any problems on the DP 1.25? I was told that the copper heatsink would provide better cooling to the processors compared to what I have now. Although, my two fans and slot fan are producing EXCELLENT results and no problems(even before all this, it never overheated), I wanted to cool my machine down even further.
Will the copper heatsink from the dual 1.42 fit on top of the dual 1.25 processor card? I looked at both the processors and heatsinks and they all look identical.
56 dollars from mac-pro.com for the copper heatsink is a BARGAIN! As well as for $245 a 1.42 processor, but I don't need an extra 10-13 percent increase. I am only after the processor.
Also, I am in the market for a nice not too expensive LCD monitor. I am running a Sony 19inch CRT and is very very nice, but HEAVY!! I want something comparible to the 19inch monitor that I have.
What LCD screens or cinema displays would someone recommend for me? I have DVI and ADC. Without knowing really the difference in performance between the ADC and DVI, should I go DVI?
I am not looking for a 30 inch or any fancy-shmancy either. Just a nice comparible/replacement to get rid of this 19 inch WEIGHT off my desk!
    Thanks, and happy holidays!

Well, I placed the dual 1,42 copper heatsink into my dual 1,25 mdd 1mb L3 per CPU. I don't think 2mb L3 per CPU would make any difference. I really don't know about the terminal pipe of the heatsink, not sure about any coolant inside it, what I can say the CPU temp dropped significantly when I swapped the original aluminium heatsink with the copper one. I also own a dual 1,42 and the temp is about 5 degrees (C°) higher than the dual 1,25 "coppered". BTW I added more fans (now my Mac's got 9 inside)
and modded the AppleFan.kext, in order to startup the lower big fan at a lower temp. The Machine with full CPU usage doesn't reach 54 (C°) during winter and 59 during hot summer.

  • What heatsink do I need? DV7t-6100 quad

    Hi all,
I've spent hours on the phone with HP techsupport and parts departments trying to find out the partnumber for my heatsink. The fan is having problems and it's not software or dust buildup related so I figure the heatsink is a good place to start. Unfortunately there are a ton of options for my laptop. Even more unfortunate, it seems that no one in HP support can answer a simple question about what part is compatible with my system. The only answer I received is that all the heatsinks are the same and there's no difference or issue with compatibility. I know that's a bunch of bull as a simple google search shows that they all look vastly different so I'm hoping someone here can help.
    http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02842278.pdf
The service manual link above details the three possibilities.
    1. "For use only with computer models equipped with an Intel processor and a graphics subsystem with 2.0-GB of discrete memory."
    2. "For use only with computer models equipped with an Intel processor and a graphics subsystem with UMA memory."
    3. "For use only with computer models equipped with an Intel processor."
    Specs:
    Dv7t-6100 - Win 7 Ultimate
    Quadcore sandybridge intel processor
    Radeon 6770M graphics
    Product: LM418AV
If you need more information I'll try to provide it. I'm not entirely sure what those three options entail though I would assume it's a combination of my processor and graphics.
    Thanks for any help.

    Hi:
The specs you posted for your model indicate it has an Intel processor with a discrete video adapter (6770M).
Does your graphics spec in the control panel indicate the gpu has 2 GB of memory?
IMO, the heatsink you would get would be the one you listed first.
UMA memory is for PC's with just the onboard Intel HD graphics, and Lord knows what the 3rd one means!

  • What heatsink to use?

What do you think of the ZALMAN CNPS6500 ALCU heatsink?
I still have the intel cooler, and temperature gets high in summer... Will the replacement have a great impact on temperature, or should I use another heatsink?

I use the Zalman CNPS7000-AlCu Fan. It has less parts to deal with/
I made the choice because I wanted an effective but very quiet solution without resorting to anything exotic. I have a windowed case and it look great in there.

    Hi cunga
It appears that you have a Nokia CARK-91 fitted which was originally for Nokia 6210/6310/6310i but you can fit a modified cradle to use such as 6230i if you look at this link:http://www.datakits.co.uk/store/evo-cark91-to-pop-port-converter-cradle-6230i-6230-6610i-p-571.html or you could bring unit up to date using this Bluetooth adaptor here:http://www.solware.co.uk/mobile-phone-car-kits/bluetooth-car-kit-convertor.shtml

  • P45 Platinum = What cooler fits?

    Good day Everyone!
Since my initial post a few months ago Ive got my PC up and running quite nice and stable for far too long... So its time to run a little overclock on it
I'm working on a MSI P45 Platinum with a E8400 Wolfdale CPU at stock speeds (3.000GHz) and CPU-z tells me it uses about 0.827 vCore. That is with Speedstep on in idle mode (@2.000GHz). Core Temp indicates a CPU temperature of approximately 35 degrees Celsius (Tjmax =100) with the Intel stock cooler attached with Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste. Also Ive put in 2*2GB dimms OCZ Reaper HPC 1066 (indeed, the fellows with the heatpipe cooler systems).
Once i start stressing the CPU for a bit the temperatures go up to around the 60 degrees and vCore rises to 0.992v.
All on all i think the vCore indicates my CPU has plenty of headroom for a little overclock since Intel gave it a 1.25v VID. My guess is that 3.8 ~ 4.2GHz should be well within reach.
My problem is that the stock cooler does not have the same headroom so the overclocking is still a bit on hold...
So far for the introductional story My real question is:
I'm wondering what kind of CPU cooler other p45 platinum owners are using since not all coolers fit this board.
It does not matter if you don't use the same restrictive heatpipe-cooled memory or something, i figured i got to change that anyways... But if you have high dimm's and use an aftermarket cooler feel free to tell ^^
offcourse, Ive done my research, the scythe mugen (2) fits according to one of the scythe forum topics (link can be found in this forum somewhere too) but that's about all i can find on this board's CPU cooling. Besides, I'm curious what solutions everyone is using.

I am thinking about switching over the the Corsair H50 hydro cooler.  It should perform as well as my TR 120 and not bow my board and take up less space.

    Ozoneman,
What position is best for heat pipe orientation? Seem I read and article on it somewhere, but can't fine it now.
    Thanks
I think with the heatpipes down is a good orientation anyway.  However, Thermalright is saying with their heatpipes it doesn't matter anyway because they put some kind of stuff on the walls so there is a wicking effect.

  • What Photoshop Fits my needs Best?

I need some good advice. I want to purchase a the right photoshop software for my needs. I am an avid amateur photographer using a Nikon D80 and shooting in NEF (Nikon RAW) format. Which software is the best, CS4 Extended, Lightroom 2 or some other one. Please advise and if possible a short explanation as to which one wopuld be very greatful and help me in making a decision. I run windows2000.
    Thanks

The problem that you face is mentioned up-thread. To get the latest ARC (Adobe Raw Converter) for you camera, you will need a later version of PS. Unfortunately, your OS will not run those. Kind of a Catch-22, with variations.
Now, I run Win2K on one older machine and love the OS. Still, for work with newer cameras, I ignore it, or the above reasons.
It is probably time to relegate that computer to the background, as I have done. I use it only for some peripherals, that just do not run on newer OS's, but clients still want some stuff from those old SyQuest disks and SyJet cartridges. Also, I have hundreds of DAT's, that will only play on the old Veritas software on that box. Just bit the bullet and get a new box with Win7, and a newer PS.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • HEATSINK not fitting!

    hey folks,
i'm using the k8t Master2-FAR (dual cpu) motherboard from MSI. the board i bought was used and doesn't come with the black heatsink mounting brackets around either of the sockets.
i did however buy 2 heatsinks. now i'm having problems:
the motherboard has moutning holes at all 4 corners of each cpu.
both heatsinks have mounting holes one on each short end (total of 2 per heatsink).
this is posing a problem for obvious reasons. the holes are nowhere near aligned. is there a way i can adapt them?
    thanks!

  • [nForce] K7N2 Delta2-FSR and AX-7 Heatsink

Hi, does this heatsink fit on this MB?  It looks like the chipset HS & fan are too close.  Anyone have this combination?  Also is this a good socket a board, there seem to be people with alot of problems?  Thanks

Dr Stu, I have'nt bought the board yet, I just want to upgrade my kt3 ultra2 in my sig, want to get dual channel memory, 8X AGP and sata to get the most speed out of my XP2700.  I have already bought another 512mb of Crucial Ballistix for the dual channel.  I'm looking for a good socket A board before they go away!  I know I'm pushiing my PS with only 18amps on the 12v side, but it has the xtra 4 pin connector and it's a good quality.  The link Fredrik so kindly provided is what it looks like.  It has been a decent sink for me.  It is 80 X 80 mm @ the aluminum fins.  Actually I had to lap mine to get a shiney surface, it had machine marks on it.  Thanks
P.S. The K7N2 looks like it's feature pack, just wondered if it's a good stable board

  • Z77IA-E53 Heatsink Recommendation

    Hi all,
I have just ordered a Z77IA-E53, and try as I might, I can't seem to find many pictures of Z77IA-E53 with heatsink on it..
Does anyone own this board, and what heatsink are you using with this? The board's layout left a lot of room around CPU,
however it feels like PCI-E slot would be easily obstructed somehow..
    any recommendations?

Yup, the size of the case itself is the determining factor most of the time, what case do you intend to use? Most coolers should fit common size mid tower cases. A cooler like the Cooler Master 212+ is pretty good for a lower price unit while the Zalman 9900 series is good if you want a better more expensive unit and is as good or better than most of the all-in-one liquid coolers that cost a lot more. My 212+ was previously used on a 2500K and now on my 2700K and has been just fine for me. The only thing about it was I changed the fan on it after 2 years for a quieter Arctic F12 PWM.

  • HeatSink

Hi, I've noticed my macbook over heating lately which means I need a new HeatSink. I got my logic board replaced a few months ago and they said that i'd need a new HeatSink sometime soon because thats what caused it to over heat. So now i want to get a new HeatSink but i don't know what one fits my macbook.
    I have a:
    Model Identifier: MacBook4,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.1 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
    RAM: 1GB
    HD: 250GB
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Someone gave you a run around. The heatsink is integral to the motherboard. Furthermore if the computer is overheating it isn't because of the heatsink. They don't stop working. You may need a new fan, however, if the old one has stopped working.
What leads you to believe the computer is overheating? You might consider using iStat Menus - VersionTracker or MacUpdate - to monitor temperatures as that would be the best way to determine if the computer is overheating. It would also help to know what you are doing when you think the computer is getting too hot.
How are you using the computer normally? On your lap or bed, on a flat surface like a desk, is the rear elevated, what's the ambient room temperature?
Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder. Set the Processes drop down menu to All Processes then click twice on the CPU column header to display in descending order. Are there any processes using a large percentage of CPU time constantly?
