If you didn't back up the phone to iCloud or iTunes (on your computer) BEFORE attempting the update, the data will be lost.

Any help appreciated, my power button hasn't worked for a couple of weeks, not normally a problem as it is regularly charged. I had it on charge earlier when another appliance caused the circuit it was on to surge and the phone to switvh on, now I can't switvh it back on. Any ideas

Sounds like it's broken. Get the phone fixed or replaced, or buy a new phone.

We have done a hard reset, soft reset...everything we can think of and it's still not working.

Take it into your local Apple Retail Store and have a Genius fix it for you. I recommend scheduling an appointment to the Genius bar so you can avoid wait times. Search your local Apple Store in the search bar on the Apple website, and schedule an appointment.

My home button on iphone 5c not working correctly

Hi,
Any ideas please - I have an iphone 5c that is about 17 mths old and has been working fine until yesterday when the home button became unresponsive - not all the time but intermittently.
I have turned the phone off for a while and then turned it back on but it made no difference.
This is the first problem I have had with this phone - it's been amazing til yesterday!

First, reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again. You will not lose any data by resetting, but it can cure some glitches.
If this does not work, and to make sure that this is not software related, set it back to factory settings, without using any backup data afterwards. Set up the rest of the personal settings manually and test Home Button.
If the phone works as before the update, restore from the latest backup. If the problem comes back, the backup data contained corrupt data, causing your issues.
If it still does not work, this is a hardware issue and the phone has to be serviced by Apple or an Authorized Apple Service Provider:

When I returned it was blank, even if I try to switch it on it did not respond. I took the privilege of plunging it to charger and resetting it and still the result is same. First try resetting your iPod by holding down the sleep and the home button at the same time until the silver apple appears (ignore the red slider bar if it appears). If that does not work, you may need a visit to the Genius bar.....

Believe it or not, if the power button is not related to a more serious issue. You can take it to an Apple Store, remember to set a genius appointment at http://www.apple.com/retail/, and get it unstuck for free, or call 800-676-2775 for help. If its more of an issue, they will tell you at the store and how much it will cost to repair if your device isn't under warranty. Also, you can trade it in for credit toward a new ipod touch. Meaning that you cannot restart or reset the phone? If you haven't tried already, try both options.
Otherwise, you can do a backup & restore, or even a restore as new (only after a successful backup).
If the issue persists, then look at a replacement. Either it will be a hardware defect (free if within warranty), or physical damage ($49 with AppleCare Plus, $149 without it.)

I'd love to repair it but not if it'll cost 500 bucks or more to replace the logicboard.

yes, you can locate and copy a file from your HD to a USB key using UNIX commands. If you know the exact name of the file which you’re trying to locate, try this:
find / -iname filename -print
This command will search your entire internal disk for the particular filename. If you know that it’s within a particular user account, then you can save search time with this variation:
find /Users/username -iname filename -print
Either variation of this command will print all files found which have the given filename. Presuming that you’re able to identify the correct file, you can copy it to a USB key using the command
cp -p filename_returned_by_find /Volumes/USB_volume
If you’re not sure which volume name your USB key has, this command will show you what the possibilities are:
ls /Volumes
Please let me know if you have any trouble with these commands.

Can I change the Power button to turn on the screen

Is there anyway you can re-assign the power button to something else like touching the screen to turn it on when the screen is off. I have mu Z2 in a leather case and I have to use my fingernail to push the button as the case makes it very hard to press with your finger.

As said above you can use double-tap to wake up the device, you'll find the setting for it under settings > display > tap to wake up.

Why does Satellite Pro A300 not start when the power button is pressed?

Suddenly my new Satellite Pro A300 will not start correctly when the power button is pressed. The situation is this: When I press the power button the Toshiba opening picture (Leading Innovation) appears and disappers quickly. Then there is a black screen for about 30 seconds. Then there is a rectangular frame with the text Microsoft Corporation underneath. And nothing happens however long I wait.
In order to get on with the starting proces I then shut down the computer by pressing down the power button until the computer stops. ("The hard way to shut down")
Now I press the power button shortly to turn on the computer. Then the computer starts normally with the Toshiba opening picture and after a few seconds I am asked to open the computer in safe mode or in normal mode. I now choose to open in normal mode and the computer opens normally and is ready to work.
What shall I do to get a normal start procedure?

When notebook starts normally (after choosing normal mode) shut down your notebook properly using START > Shut down option. Next start should be normal.
When the OS is switched down on irregular way you will be always asked how to start it again (safe or normal mode).
The same happen on my Satellite A300.
