Here is my dilemma. I'm very anal about this and was able to solve the problem in CS3. But I've lost the instructions and need help. What I want to do:
When I resize (or resample) an image to 30 inches wide for printing I want the image on my screen in CS6 to be exactly 30 inches wide. Thusly I am able to see a true representation of my final sharpening. As it is now... if I resize it to 30 inches it actually shows up at approx. 24-1/2 inches wide on screen. Is there someone out there who knows the magical trick to adjust this in CS6 as I was able to do in CS3? Thanks to all.

In Photoshop, 100% and actual pixels are synonymous. In InDesign, where this discussion started, 100% view is supposed to be related to the physical size of the page layout defined in the document setup. This has nothing at all to do with the size or resolution of images that might be placed on the page.
Prior to CS6 it was calculated using 72 ppi and made the incorrect presumption that your screen resolution was also 72 ppi. In fact the 100% view looked different depending on the monitor size and resolution and most users simply ignored it, or used a script to set a custom size that WAS accurate and hooked it to the keyboard shortcut. In CS6 there's been some rejiggering so that you get an accurate preview of what a page will look like on various tablets and phone screens.

Formatting restaurant menu with dotted line to price, what I see isn't what I get.

I have returned to Dreamweaver CS3 after using homesite for a
couple of years. I've been using both. I thought dreamweaver would
be helpful for things that would be easier when you really need to
visualize them. I've gone round and round about how to redo a
restaurant menu. I decided to stick with a table but to simplify
the coding. Each item is set up as follows. The item is in the left
cell along with the leading periods and the prices are in the right
cell.

The problem is that I have to guess how long the line of
periods needs to be in Dreamweaver. I can't just bring the line up
to the end of the cell. I guess, save and look at it in a browser
to see if it's right. Some lines need to be shorter or longer and
there's no rhyme or reason, at least as far as I can tell. Below is
an example of how different lengths can equal the same thing when I
look in the browser.
Please note, I can't get the forum to line up the prices but
they should be lined evenly up since there in the right hand cell.

You'll never get this done in WYSIWYG.
The trick is to use a little CSS with an image of a series of
dots declared
as the background image of the table cell. Let it repeat
across the cell.
You have what you want.

LR4.2 printing multiple cell with overlap - What you see IS NOT what you get ?

Hi,
I am using LR4.2 and PS-elements. Epson 3800 for printing
PS - never an isue.
user is admin ..
I get a strange phenomena in LR4.2 when doing multiple cells on same print - with overlapping: At time what you see is not what's going to be printed! at times you will get the printout with some of the cells mising photos (even printing them to file will result in the same way..). Post the printing (ouch wasting of paper...) if I select the cell, I can "send it to the front, ad now it will be printed ok/.
Please advice - did you see this before >?

I have never tried printing overlapping photos. Can you describe how to a simple photo layout that demonstrates the problem so others can try? Or at least include a screen-capture of the layout that is showing the issue. It may have something to do with your particular printer driver even if you print to a JPG, but if others, with other printers have the same issue, then it is likely something within LR, only.

Smartforms - What you see is not what you get ?

I create a delivery note by smartforms.
Print Preview in the PC, the position of data is correct.
But printed on the paper, what you see in the PC is not what you get? The page format is custom, not standard.
Is there somebody know reason?

I all really depends on the printer, the print drivers, and how the printer is setup on the basis side.
I have seen the same thing when printing one layout from two different printers. They didn't look the same.

What I see is not what prints!!!

I use PSE4. I have a Samsung Syncmaster 181T (LCD). I did something to my system(inadvertantly) such that I cannot get photo prints that match what I see. I read on the web that Adobe gamma does not work well for LCD monitors so I tried to use my Samsung Natural Color system to get things back in snyc. It is supposed to sync both calibrate both monitor and printer. BUT it does not work. My prints are always lighter than the screen shows. I looked in C:\program files\common files\adobe\color\profiles\recommended\ and there are a lot of *.icc and a couple of *.icm files. What should I be using to get back in sync between my monitor and my HP Photosmart 7960? I set PSE to use AdobeRGB 98 and the printer to use "AdobeRGB" After wasteing a lot of good photo paper I am at my wits end. HELP!!!

You will be better off not having both Elements and the printer mangaging
the color. Start out with Limited Color Management (Always Optimize Colors
For Computer Screens), which uses sRGB and then set the Print Space (Printer
Profile) to Printer Color Management. This should give you acceptable
results if the monitor is calibrated. Adobe Gamma does work to some extent
on LCDs, which you can try if the calibration is completely out of sink.

Merge to HDR Pro: What you see is not what you get?

I am using PSCC on an iMac (Mavericks). When I bring bracketed shots into PSCC's Merge to HDR Pro, I can work the settings and/or presets to get an image that looks OK. However, when I exit from HDR Pro by clicking OK, the image displayed in PSCC is very different from what I was just looking at in HDR Pro. The screenshots here show just one example, working in 16-bit mode. Other images show even greater differences. Working in 32-bit mode makes it even worse. This did not use to happen in my earlier versions of PS (perpetual license). Am I missing something or doing something wrong?

You certainly shouldn't get all pixel-peeper about how the 32bit image looks on your screen. It is not possible to show the tonal width of a 32 bit image on a computer screen, so you are seeing a 'representation' of how it might look after processing.
FWIIW I have taught HDR (and Photoshop) to some of the best photographers in the world at two PSNZ National Conventions back in 2010 and 2011, so I kind of have strong opinions about it. Not that I use it excessively, but it is a very handy tool to keep in your photographic skills repertoire.

I am sorry if I misunderstood your post. I am actually using the same workflow as Julianne Kost in her video (which I had watched prior to posting here). And, as I posted above, I do agree with Mr. Prengel that I should just take the 32 bit image into Camera Raw and do the toning there. As a matter of fact, that is what I have been doing in Photoshop CC (sending the pictures from Lightroom, same as Julianne Kosts does), and I can do a very good job, if I say so myself.
So the question I had was merely one of puzzlement at seeing the difference between the image just before exiting HDR Pro and what shows up in Camera Raw. In the examples I provided, and in many other cases, it clearly went beyond pixel-peeping: they were two very different images. But I think I understand now why this is, which you kindly pointed out: it is not possible to show the tonal width of a 32 bit image on a computer monitor. I had not considered that and I thank you for mentioning it.
It may be that in some cases (as in Julianne Kosts's video) the representation in HDR Pro is actually pretty close to the initial view in Camera Raw, but in other cases (my examples) it is not. Not really an issue, I agree.

Using iweb '08 to build my site: http://videoproduction.joshbass.com (it's a subdomain of my main site, but this is the part I'm focusing on for this question).
so, see all the "buttons" on the side on each page? Those are supposed to have drop shadows (not the text, not the text anywhere, just the buttons themselves). All the embedded video? Each should have a little box with a border and a drop shadow behind it. Those little stills on the main page? They're all suppsed to have picture frames with black borders. For some reason this stuff simply doesn't show up.
I don't get, I built it this way, I publish to a folder (I don't use mobilme or whatever), and BAM, when I "visit the site", that stuff is gone. Doesn't show up online either. I know I'm uploading everything to the right directory and whatnot, so what's going on? Can anyone provide insight? Thanks.

What You see is not what you get when printing a adobe PDF file

Hi, we use adobe pdf files to send printing of maps to different customers. Quite often a pdf file looks Ok on the screen but printed on paper some lines is crossing the paper which should not be there.
It is easy to reproduce and seems to happen on different computers. Most of them use windows7. If we use another program than adobe for displaying and printing the same file the print is correct.
Is this a bug in print driver or in the Adobe reader which produce the data for the print driver. Most files is created by a thin print solution called UNIPRINT.

The text spacing also frustrates me, but I'm afraid is a drawback of the iWeb system. I always have to go back and re-tweak certain paragraphs that I try to squeeze into a smaller space. I've learned that it's best to allow for a little breathing room with the width and height of the text field. If the text field is exactly the width and height of your paragraph in iWeb, chances are the lines are going to bump down just a hair, creating an extra line of text which will decrease your line spacing if the height is also tight. Does that make sense?
As far as the hyperlinks go, I used to get freaked out because what I thought was the wrong formatting, but what I found out was just the formatting for having visited the linked site.
What iWeb does for those of us who don't know or don't care to mess with html code is an extremely complex process that I can't even begin to understand. And on top of that you add the relative unpredictability of the various browsers and systems that are out there. You have to roll with the punches and figure out these little discrepancies to get the finished product you want.

What you see is not what you get

I have successfully created a blog using iWeb '08 (on an '07 macbook OS 10.4.11) but my blog archive page when viewed with Safari shows a mis-arrayed menu bar arranged letter by letter vertically down the left side of the page. When viewed with Firefox, the blog archive page shows a vertically arrayed menu bar. While working on the page, no menu bar whatsoever is visible on the blog archive page.
1) How do I access the navigation bar on the iWeb working blog archive page to try to correct the problem?
2) How to solve the browser issue: Why does a page look different on different browsers? Is there a setting to use that avoids this problem?

IWeb 09 - what you see is NOT what you get

I upgraded from iWeb 08 to iWeb 09. In a nutshell: oops.
I altered one page of my website (the text inside of the text boxes and the colored boxes that I had layered beneath the text boxes) and uploaded it. What looked perfectly good in iWeb was completely out of whack once I uploaded it. New text that I had typed in was showing up as double spaced rather than single spaced. The text boxes were longer or wider than they should be - or the colored boxes were longer or shorter, however we want to look at it.
The text in separate text boxes that I had lined up so it appeared as though they were in columns were totally out of whack. To top it all off, once I got it right on my Mac I had to keep running back and forth across the street to check it on a PC because it showed up differently on IE.
Is this a known bug of iWeb 09? I was gobsmacked. . .it's not like some new and slightly buggy functionality was added - we're talking basic WYSIWYG functions. If it's a bug, is there a fix for it?
If there's no fix then I want to go back to iWeb 08 until 09 becomes usable - there's no way I'm going to go through all of this every time I update the site, which is several times per week.

Well, this may be a silly suggestion, but have you tried holding "shift" while you refresh the page? I've only had my pages show up wacky just a few times (including unpublished pages sitting on my desktop), and that always works for me.

CR for VS2010 - font when printing (what you see is not what you get)

If anyone can help resolve this issue, I would be very grateful!
We use VS 2010 with the production Crystal Reports for VS 2010. I deployed a web site to production on a Win 2008 r2 server with IIS 7.
When the user runs a report (we have it set to be pdf), the font used by the report displays properly. When printing, it prints with a different font. The correct font is Old English. I believe it is printing in arial.
I installed the font on the server. I gave rights to the fonts directory for the web site. I ran the redistributable. I'm not sure what else to try.

Yes, I do mean client-side.
Also, the crystal report viewer control print mode set to pdf instead of Active X.
We had issues with users being able to install the Active X viewer.
The font has been installed on the client.
When you stated "Print Control is via binary page descriptors, where the font composition is turned to printable images on the client-side" --- Does that mean that certain fonts or even font types may not work?

I have a web page that has a lot of text boxes with gradient fills. Some of these render correctly in Safari but many do not. They all look fine in iWeb. I copied one that rendered correctly and the pasted version did not. (the gradient fill did not cover the entire text box) Text boxes with two lines of text seem to have the most problems. Most copied text boxes also have problems.

Using a shape with a gradient fill and dragging a plain text box on top of it instead of just filling a text box with a gradient fill does work. However, Im not sure the problem is converting my text to an image as the html still has my text inside of tags even with the gradient fill. It seems like iweb should produce web pages that look exactly like what is shown in iweb.
So my question is not completely answered, but I do have a work around. Thanks

What i see is not what i get...help, please

In my efforts to work on a page i am being stumped in that
the view i have is completely off from that which is presented when
i check the page in IE or Firefox. At first glance, it looks as
though many of my elements are missing and the the space and
columns are out of whack, but then it looks fine when i check it.
i'm having trouble because i cant edit those elements that appear
to be missing when in design mode
ive attached the code and have the sitre files for viewing,
should someone want to see them.

Having done this several times in the past, I can confirm that it is really easy to make a mistake configuring WDS. Have you tried the step-by-step procedure in the Designing AirPort Networks guide? Reference pages 42-44.

Is iWeb Really "What You See is all You'll Get"

Not an articulate title I know, but I've been coming to the realization that iWeb has seen it's last updates. I've been holding out hope for iWeb Pro. I still plan on using iWeb for some time to come, but here's my question. Will IOS kill iWeb. Right now my iWeb sites seem to look and act fine on IOS devises, with the exception of the iWeb standard Slideshow that used when publishing to FTP. On my photo album pages, the slideshows work on IOS, but the second line or more of the photo description is cut off. So is this a problem with iWeb not publishing HTML 5 compliant sites.
Alot of my customers are now viewing my site on iPhones and iPads and I want to be sure the viewing experience is equal on both Desktop and Mobile devises.
So I'm assuming that many iWeb users are more so experimenting with other Apps such as Rapidweaver, Sandvox, Freeway, Macflux and more. Most of the posts I've searched on the iWeb Forum are from 2010 and mid 2011. Does anyone have any 2012 input as to my HTML5 question in regards to iWeb and IOS and or with other website apps.
Ref: I've only downloaded trial versions of Sandvox 2, Rapidweaver and I will download Freeway tonight. Apps are either to complicated or to restraining. Still like iWeb the best.

iWeb is HTML compliant. And your photo problem has nothing to do with HTML5. When viewed on a mobile device, the browser chooses the mobile version of the photo slideshow page.

SO I have posted my website and when making it everything is even centered and spaced. To be sure of this I go to view and select show layout. Everything is perfect in the application. But please at my site. everything is all over the place. Someone please help.

Good tip there.
Also turn on "show text imaging indicator" in you preferences.
It will indicate when text in a box will be changed to graphic when published.
Also make sure you use the opacity setting in the "shadow" selection area, not the slider at the bottom.
Bottom slider will change the text itself.
He's spot on though.
