What if I want to LET USER CACHE videos streamed using FMS3?

For my new video website I want the users TO BE ABLE TO CACHE
but at the same time I want them to have the benefit of jumping
anywhere on the timeline to see only the part they are interested
in without downloading complete video (which can be done only
through streaming IMHO)
Is it possible in FMS3? any other solution?

The answer is "HTTP Streaming". In fact you don't need FMS if
you wish
to allow users to cache videos. You can use any webserver
with
PHP/MySQL. AFAIK, Google Video works just in this way. You
can find
some brief description of how HTTP Streaming works for
example here:

I would lean to an HTML widget because it's the only widget that appears to support unstructured user input. However, since HTML widgets can only run full screen, you will want to offer more functionality than merely plugging a number into an equation.

AIM for a PC or the app Trillian will do it (With an AIM name).
Trillian used to sell 3 versions until recently. The oldest, ver 3.2, now seems to have disappeared from their site. It was on "Sale" at $15
They also seem to have renumbered the various releases as Version 3.2 used to be the same for Mac and PCs
The previous layout also implied the Mac version was the same as the Windows 4.2 version And the Beta option for version 5 has also disappeared.
Also if you have a Google mail Account and they do as well you cna both turn On the Talk option at Google and make use of GoogleTalk in a web Broswer.
iChat can make use of the GoogleTalk ID (It's your email in fact) and you can Video Chat to other iChat Users that Google or Jabber IDs (GoogleTalk is a Jabber server).
It will not however Video chat to the Standalone PC app of the same name or to anyone using the Chat feature in the Google Mail Web page (Different Protocols)
You can use other web sites to do Browser to Browser Video chats
See the options 9 through 11 (12 is now defunct) and MeBeam is now called Koowy.
These options need Flash to be enabled in your Browsers (both ends) and it will give you a Pop up to Click Allow for access to the Camera (Which you may also need to chose in one of the tabs)

Can anyone help me? This is really weird. I am currently trying to watch video highlights of the world cup onj various sights. The F.A website, fifa website and bbc website. In each case a window pops up but no video. Whats even weirder is that its the same on Firefox, IE and Opera. I have the latest version of windows media player and realplayer.
Somthing on my mac seems to be blocking it out but i don't know what.
On say the bbc website on other macs i have tried there is a small box that does say 'video' that i just can't see on my laptop.
Big brownie points to anyone who can figure it out.

You should be able to play the BBC clips, you just need to have RealPlayer ver 10. Simply open up the player, select open location and enter/paste the URL for the BBC sports page (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport). click on the game you want to watch and it will play it in the RealPlayer Window. The plugins used by people in their browsers can be a real mess, and Safari seems to have the least issues associated with Quiktime usage for video.

I know that you can descide for the user whether or not CEM (cached exchange mode) is on or off.
But in outlook 2007 users were able to thick that checkbox on or off themselves.
I looked but never found a GPO or setting that lets users toggle this checkbox themselves. is this possible for outlook 2010 via GPO ? If so how?

Do you want to change the Cached Exchange Mode setting to new profiles or existing profiles?
If you want to change the setting to a new profile, we can use Office Customization Tool (OCT) or deploy a .prf file to change the setting.
If you want to change the setting to existing profiles, we can do this via GPO. To do this, open your Group Policy Editor, locate:
User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Microsoft Outlook 2010 > Account Settings > Exchange > Cached Exchange Mode
Double-click Use Cached Exchange Mode for new and existing Outlook profiles
and check if it is set to Enable. If so, change it to
Not configured.

I don't think Finder does this (I've tried).
iTunes does though. Where you can set artwork or the "poster frame"...
This may not be what you want but if it helps, I know 2 ways do this is
Open the video in QuicktimePlayer7 | View | Set Poster Frame (even then, you might need to save it as .mov (ie in a 'mov container').
Drag the file into iTunes and set the artwork (as in http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/adding-album-cover-art-or-images-in-itunes .html)
From there, iTunes will use that frame as the "poster frame" ie the photo/frame that shows when you browse your videos. Which is what you want, but limited to iTunes.
When I do either of these above, the frame I set does not show when exploring files in "Finder" (or in the other Explorer tool I use called "Pathfinder").
So it maybe, that exactly what you want, is not possible.

Cookies are small files that contain information useful to a web site -- such as password, preferences, last date visited, etc. You may remove the cookies that you don't want adn since some of them are a privacy issue, many people remove them all.
Cache is just a collection of data downloaded to help display a web page. After you leave a site, much of the cache is left on your computer and is no longer needed. You can always remove the cache because it will be replaced as needed.

When sharing WBs via plus I see all db accounts - which is what I dont want

As stated in the subject title, when sharing WB's via plus, users can see the list of all database users in the share workbook payne. Is it possible to change this so that non-discoverer users can be removed from this list...I am particularly concerned that all default database accounts i.e. SYS, SYSTEM, SYSMAN, DBSNMP and so forth appear visible to anyone attempting to share a WB. What I would like to do is have only those accounts that have ben specifically created for my discoverer project to be able to be visible to a user who is sharing a WB. So far I have yet to establish if this can be do, hence why I am posting...

I don't believe this was ever implemented.
Andrew: I have used the ALL_USERS trick myself many times and it works just fine. If you want to filter out the system accounts, as Rod suggested, just create a new SYS view and a synonym for that view as part of each user's creation script. Here is one that I did recently:
When connected as SYS I created this view:
CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW Z_ASC_ALL_USERS
AS SELECT * FROM SYS.ALL_USERS
WHERE SUBSTR(USERNAME,1,3) = SUBSTR(USER,1,3);
I then issued this grant: GRANT SELECT ON Z_ASC_ALL_USERS TO PUBLIC;
I then created these synonyms for my SALES users:
CREATE OR REPLACE SYNONYM SAL_ADMIN.ALL_USERS FOR SYS.Z_ASC_ALL_USERS;
CREATE OR REPLACE SYNONYM SAL_USER.ALL_USERS FOR SYS.Z_ASC_ALL_USERS;
Of course you don't want this synonym being used for non-Discoverer users so don't create it for SYSTEM or any other non-Discoverer account.
What the above does is to let users only see other users whose accounts being with the same 3 characters as their account. Thus if either SAL_ADMIN or SAL_USER were trying to share a report the only user they will see in the list will be the other Sales user.
By the way, there is no need to filter roles as these are filtered by the database naturally thus preventing someone sharing a report with a role that they don't have.

Letting users access other users home directories

Hello,
I am currently setting up an xserve at a school and I am running into some problems. I want to let the group teachers be able to access all of the students home directories. I added to the permissions the group teachers for the users folders, but the permissions do not carry through all subfolders. What would be the best way to set up these permissions in tiger server?

When sharing a desired folder for automounting networked home directores the default POSIX values are:
Owner: root/admin R/W (can be either)
Group: admin Read Only
Everyone Read Only
Going beyond this folder and you can then view the default attributes for individual folders. These should be:
Owner: the persons name Read & Write
Group: admin Read Only
Everyone: None
This is as it should be and you should leave these alone. In the situation you describe it makes sense to grant Read/Write access for teachers so as students work can be marked and/or assessed. In which cae you want to preserve the POSIX permissions but use an additional permissions model that allows access withour breaking the default permissions.
10.4 Server allows for this as Access Control Lists (ACLs) are available once you enable them for the volume that has the shared folder for automounting networked home folders on it. WorkGroup Manager > Sharing > General. Select the volume and tick the box that says 'Enable Access Control Lists on this volume'. When you have done this, restart the Server. Enabling/Disabling ACLs on any volume should always be followed by a restart.
On successful log in launch WorkGroup Manager, select Sharing, select folder you are interested and and select Access. Below the Standard POSIX model there is a window. This window is where you add desired users or groups (or a mix of both) and define what access they have to the selected folder. At the bottom of this window is a small gear wheel. Selecting this will show a small sub-menu where you can propagate permissions as well as viewing effective permissions. I would suggest you create a year group, add desired teachers to that year group and then add this year group to each desired year folder. Define your permissions and propagate them. You should now have at the end of this the default POSIX permissions for individual student folders still in place and honoured as well as overriding permission for teachers.
