What if Nano won't charge?

Hi,
All of a sudden, my 7th Gen Nano won't charge...I've plugged it into 3 different chargers, used two different cables, tried it on my MacBook Air, and in my car....nothing charges it.  Is it a goner?  Need a new battery?  Any ideas?
Tx,
Geoff

Go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info (and then System Report if you are running 10.7), then select Power from the left hand column of the System Profiler. Copy and paste the Battery Information back here.

  • HT1435 my 3rd generation iPod nano won't charge

My 3rd generation iPod nano won't charge and when i connect it, it shows up charging then the screen goes black and wont work. Can i get it replaced for a new one? or a different one? What can i do?

    Try these steps listed below.
    1. Run “c:\WINDOWS\system32\devmgmt.msc” (i.e. *Device Manager*), and leave it open for now for later use
    2. Start up iTunes
    3. Next, connect your iPod.
    4. Go to your iPod Settings and select the “Enable disk use” option from under theSummary tab.
    5. A dialog box will pop up reminding you that you’ll need to manually eject. Go ahead and hit OK
    6. Hit Apply to save changes to the iPod
    7. Quickly switch to the Device Manager window and right-click on any item within the window and select “Scan for hardware changes”
    8. Finally, switch back to iTunes, and try re-syncing your iPod to see if it helped.
It might not also hurt to trash your iPod's Photo cache if it has one (i.e. you sync photos to the iPod).  See this article for information on where to find this folder on your Windows XP machine.

Please describe _*in detail*_ all you have attempted to do in order to resolve the issue.
Have you called iPod technical support: 1-800-APL-CARE (1-800-275-2273), considered taking the iPod to an Apple Store or an AASP?

  • TA44551 My iPod nano won't charge.

My iPod nano won't charge.  It's only 2 months old.  I've tried using two different computers (direct connect - no USB hub, Windows 7) as well as a wall plug.  Checked the nano port for dirt.  Don't have a second cord.

Two possibilities that i can think of:
One- Your charger isn't working try getting a new one.
    or
Two- Your iPod needs a new battery. Take it into the apple store to have it fixed or replaced.

  • 4th generation nano won't charge

I have a 4th generation Nano and it won't charge. Tried to charge it on the computer as well as a adapted stereo. Itunes does not recognise it either.
Worked fine up until today. How can I get it to work? My OS is windows. Nano has now lost all charge...Any info would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

Leave it to charge for a few hours.  Then come back and reset it if necessary.
If nothing else, it's likely a sign of a dead battery that needs to be replaced.

  • Ipod Nano won't charge or show in itunes

I bought a used nano, either 1st or 2nd generation, not sure.  The usb charger that I use for iphone and ipod classic seems to work; it provides power to the nano.  But the nano will not charge (batter dead?) and it does not show in itunes.  I've gone through all the trouble-shooting steps, including putting it into disk mode, but it still will not show in itunes.  Is it just dead or is there something I can do?  I paid 50 cents at a garage sale so can't go too far wrong but it would be nice if I could get it to work.  Thanks!

  • 6th gen nano won't charge

I got my wife a new 6th gen nano.  It operates just fine...as long as it's plugged into my PC.  I can put songs on it, use the touch screen, etc. The display shows the battery with the plug icon on it, which I assume means it's plugged in, but not charging.  As soon as I disconnect it, the ipod won;t work at all. No power ups, nothing at all.  I tried resetting it when plugged in, but it made no difference.  I've tried charging it on the PC via the USB cable, on my car charger for my 5th gen ipod, and using the AC adapter, but with no luck.  Do i just have a bad battery or what?!

Take the iPod  to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you.

  • 4th generation Nano won't charge with stereo.

My 2nd generation just decided to die. I've had it integrated with my car stereo and it was working great until this morning when it just died. So, I decided to use the 4th generation that I had connect to my Bose system. To my surprise the Nano said that it wouldn't charge. This is a relatively new $2K+ stereo so I'm not happy with the Nano right now. Just for grins, I tried a friends 3rd generation Nano and it seems happy  to charge. Any ideas what has changed between these generations? Any (non-xrated) suggestions?
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

  • IPod Nano won't charge on Mac Pro

Strange problem this. I have the following machines:
    iMac 10.5.8 (late 2006); iTunes 9.0.1
    iMac 10.6.2 (late 2009); iTunes 9.0.2
    Mac Pro 10.5.8 (2006); iTunes 9.0.2
My Mac Pro has my itunes library on it.
I have a 1st gen Nano and 2 2nd gen Nanos which sync and charge fine with the Mac Pro. I also have 1st gen Touch and an iPhone, both of which will sync and charge with the Mac Pro.
Just got 2 new toys in the family: a 5th gen Nano and a 3rd gen Touch. Neither will sync or charge with the Mac Pro. However both will sync and charge fine with either of the iMacs.
I have tried all 5 USB ports on the Mac Pro, they are all USB 2.0 so should be ok, and I have tried 3 different sync cables. The best I managed was once the 5th gen nano started charging, connected then 10 secs later disconnected again.
Does anyone know if the latest ipods work with the 2006 Mac Pro? If so, any ideas what could cause this?

An update....it looks as though none of my iPods work will sync with the Mac Pro anymore, which changes the nature of the problem completely. I did a sync to my 1st gen Nano yesterday so I know it was working then. Since yesterday the only change I can think of is trying to sync the new iPods to the Pro.
Each time I plug an iPod into the Pro I get the following errors on the Console:
Dec 25 13:11:36 Macintosh kernel[0]: USBF: 289.304 [0x8663a00] The IOUSBFamily is having trouble enumerating a USB device that has been plugged in. It will keep retrying. (Port 1 of hub @ location: 0xfd000000)
Dec 25 13:11:43 Macintosh kernel[0]: USBF: 296.538 [0x8663a00] The IOUSBFamily was not able to enumerate a device.
I'm going to try reinstalling iTunes. Anyone seen this before?

  • My NANO won't charge.

Hi, over the weekend my I was using my nano on the way to my trailer. After I turned it off I couldn't turn it back on again later that day. I thought the battery was dead so I thought nothing of it. I usually turn the hold button on so it don't turn on in my pocket or backpack and drain the battery. But sometimes I forget so I thought nothing of it until I tried to charge it. I plugged it into my laptop and I got nothing. The screen stayed black and my computer doesn't even respond to it being plugged in. I then tried to see if my stereo with the iPOD docking station would work and still nothing. Both my stereo and laptop should have charged it. What is wrong with my iPOD NANO. It's a silver 2GB NANO I just got on Christmas.

You may need to reset it.
Put the hold switch to the OFF/White position. Now toggle it ON/orange then back off again. Then press and hold both the MENU and center buttons on the iPod and hold them for a good 15 seconds or so. Your iPod should reboot starting with the Apple Logo screen.
If it doesn't work the first time, give it a second or third go. Sometimes it takes a few/several tries.
See this thread as an example of what I mean by needing to try it many times...

  • IPod Nano won't charge with USB 2.0

I've had an iPod Nano for a few weeks now. When I first got it, I was able to charge it up over USB 2.0 with no problem. Now, the computer recognizes the iPod, and the iPod says it's charging, but it doesn't actually charge.
I can still charge it using the firewire power adaptor from my 20gig iPod. It seems like this only started happening after I started charging via the firewire adapter. Could the firewire adapter be causing problems?

I had to install a USB 2.0 PCI card in my G4 tower to use the nano. Shouldn't this provide enough power? I also tried hooking it up to a USB 2.0 hub with an external power supply, so that should provide enough power too, shouldn't it?

  • New nano won't charge or start up... SOLUTION

    HI there,
I'm just posting this in case anyone out there bought or received a nano for Christmas and had the same problem I had.
The nano I bought, when plugged, in showed a black and white screen (not colour). I was able to copy iTunes songs onto the nano but it would refuse to charge or operate when disconnected from the computer. Charging was done correctly via a fully powered USB2 port.
Despite charging the nano via a computer overnight, as soon as the nano was disconnected, I got the folder icon with an exclamation mark and it didn't work. I tried numerous resets and restarts to no avail.
In the end, I discovered the solution was to RESTORE the nano, not RESET it. On a Mac this is done by going to Applications -> Utilities -> Ipod Software Updater -> finding the most recent version of the updater and simply runing it. After that you just follow the prompts.
Immediatley after doing this my nano sprang into life in full colour, and I saved myself a trip to the Apple Store!
Restoring is mentioned in the nano manual but I think it really should to be highlighted in bold or something, because I suspect this could be a common issue. Official instructions are here

  • New Nano won't charge - please help!

Hey guys! Hoping you can help me.
Bought a new Nano 4g 2nd generation. I plugged it into my laptop, installed it and put music onto it. When I disconnect it, there is no battery life, even though it was plugged in for hours. I also have an AC adapter, and have plugged it into that, and when I disconnect it, the menu on the screen just disappears and I can't turn it on again.
This is the 2nd time I've bought a brand new iPod that has been faulty out of the box. I've tried the 5 R's and nothing seems to work. I know I may have to send it away to get a new one (shudder) but I just wanted to know if anyone else has had this problem, and if so, what eventuated?
    Many thanks in advance!

Same Problem with one I gave my daughter for Christmas. Purchased online direclty from Apple. What's the fix? DON'T IGNORE THIS ONE GUYS!
