What if you miss a software update?

What happens if you miss a software update? Can you get it later or keep getting them?
I Pod 3rd gen and I Pad 2nd gen
Cheers

You can update to the latest iOS any time you want.  Presently the update are a complete iOS.  Just note that if you have say 4.2.1 and and 3 or 4G iPod, you can only update to the latest, 4.3.5 today but not update to any of the ones between.

  • How do you delete a software update?

After you download a software update, how do you delete it?

I don't believe you need more than 500Mb of free space if you perform the update through itunes. As all operations are done on the computer, and then the files are simply replaced with the newer versions.
    As to your other questions:

You don't. As long as you don't install it it will be there. Once installation is complete, the system will delete it from the device.

Once you press the "Download and Install" button, what happens next? Does it do the former first, the latter first, or both?
Obviously it can't install if it hasn't Downloaded first. So if you still have the "Download and Install" option as opposed to the "Install Now" option it will first download and then install.

If you are using Itunes and choose to only Download, then it will simply download the update package and store it on your computer. When you are ready to install it you can then press the install button.

  • What are you doing with software (games) designed to run on Snow Leopard.  Have you heard of anyone making a patch for LION?

What are you doing with software (games) designed to run on Snow Leopard when the Os is Lion?

It is up to the publishers of games to accommodate their software to Lion.
Blizzard, publisher of StarCraft, WarCraft, and Diablo, has posted a statement about that -
    Blizzard Support
Although they were able to create patches to allow the use of their (OS 9) games in OS X up through Snow Leopard, apparently from their perspective it is not possible to patch those games for Lion.

What do I do if there is no software update option in the settings of my iphone 3GS?

In order to update over the air you will need to be on IOS 5.0 or higher.
For you to update your 3GS you will need to plug it to your computer and open itunes.  itunes should detect that your phone needs an upgrade, suggest doing a backup before updating.
NOte if you hava an iphone 3G the highest IOS is 4.2.1

  • What is the most recent software update for mac

I have a recent MacBook pro and the most recent software update is over 1gb! I just wondered what it was? M

A really recent MacBook Pro would be running Lion, Mac OS 10.7, and the most recent update is 10.7.3. The delta update from 10.7.2 was found to cause problems and rather than fix them, the update was pulled and Lion users were directed to the "combo" updater which contained all the code necessary to update any Mac running Lion from any previous version of Lion, which is a lot of code, hence the very big download. BTW, 10.7.3 has been problematic for some software so it would be wise to explore the comments and complaints in the Lion forum before you update since you can't go back if you change your mind without having a good backup. Also BTW, this forum is for the Mac Pro; you have a MacBook Pro, which has its own forum and can probably provide you with more useful information.

  • What do you miss from E16 in E17?

Hi, i was thinking the things i miss from E16, and i thought on asking what else could be improved:
    1) the pager, although its beatifull it lacks several features the other had. (drag and drop windows, zoom...)
    2) window management options! lots of them! i thought the strongest point of E16 (along with being "kind" of lightweight was the great features for managing windows it had. Why are ALL missing in E17? there is no remember, cant change mouse/window behavior, no ALT+TAB... damn i miss those...
i cant think of more right now... but i will be back!

I dont know if i expressed bad or what, just in case, i was meaning the  miss from the remarked sentence:
miss1   Audio pronunciation of "miss" ( P )  Pronunciation Key  (ms)
    v. missed, miss·ing, miss·es
    v. tr.
       1. To fail to hit, reach, catch, meet, or otherwise make contact with.
       2. To fail to perceive, understand, or experience: completely missed the point of the film.
       3. To fail to accomplish, achieve, or attain (a goal).
       4. To fail to attend or perform: never missed a day of work.
       5.
             1. To leave out; omit.
             2. To let go by; let slip: miss a chance.
       6. To escape or avoid: narrowly missed crashing into the tree.
       7. To discover the absence or loss of: I missed my book after getting off the bus.
       8. To feel the lack or loss of: Do you miss your family?
Thats the one i meant, the last one, i didnt mean to say its "missing" from E17, i was saying what things are you most "desperated" to have again.
Thats the problem with English and having all those meanings for every word! Hope you understand what was the topic about now.
    Edit:
When i get home i will check if nickm updated his repo with todays version, thanks rensel!
    Regards.

  • How do you automatically run software update using ARD?

Is there a way to automate running software update and downloading all updates using ARD? My current option is to log into each machine and do it manually. (I am also using a OSX server 10.6 if that helps.)
    Thanks

Use the the Send UNIX Command option. There's a template in the Miscellaneous section to have the workstations download and install updates; run it as the root user in the Send Command as field so you don't have to worry about a user being logged into each workstation. You can set the command as a task to run on a schedule if you wish.
Since each workstation will download each update, it's most efficient if you can run a Software Update Server and point your workstations to that instead of directly to Apple. Then you don't have multiple downloads taking up your Internet bandwidth. If you have on a few workstations and/or a really big pipe to the Internet, that may not be a concern for you.
    Regards.

  • TA24326 How do you repair Apple Software Update in Windows 7?

When I open iTunes it says a new version (10.6.3) is available, and I click on "download" but nothing happens.  I then go to Apple Software Update and no updates are found.

After a month of waiting & having same problem as you, today when I turned on my computer an Apple Software Update appeared right on my desktop telling me to download the new update.  I did & it downloaded just fine.  I assume it should be coming to your computer soon also.
Yeah ... it's a bit "patchy" though, Sassy. It can come right for some people and yet not for others ... and there's been a few reports in some of the bigger threads of it coming right for some folks and then going silly again (for the same folks).
A good rule of thumb with this one is that if you do get a "window" where ASU seems to work fine, get as many updates done as you can (just in case the window closes again).

  • Can you uninstall a software update?

    Hi,
Is it possible to "uninstall" a software update from Apple? I am trying to test an idea that my wireless connection was stronger before I downloaded and installed the most reason Airport update. I am using one of the new iMacs. If need be, would erasing the hard drive work?

Downgrading can be done using Archive and Install:
How to Perform an Archive and Install
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.5.2 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

  • HT4972 My iphone is missing the software update prompt

I don't have the software update prompt

If your 'sig' is correct you have an iPhone 3G?   You therefore cannot update beyond iOS 4.2.1  You need a 3GS or later model.
For software update you need iOS 5 or beyond.  If you really want it... time to upgrade your phone.

  • Mail and notes missing after software update

After doing a routine software update all the read emails and notes in my 'Mail' Inbox have disappeared.  Has anyone experienced this and if so, is there any way of retrieving them?

I was posting a different work-around until Apple came out with the official article:
Open a Finder window and "Find" like the screenshot: By filename for Mail.app
Track down and discard any old versions of Mail you find. They don't work anyway.
    Then do these two steps:
    * Run the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo 1.1.http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
    * Run the Security update.http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1586

  • How do you uninstall a software update?

Recently installed the new Xerox software update that was released on May 2, 2013.  Apparently this update does not work for some Xerox models and causes the user to no longer be able to print to Xerox.  Is there anyway to UNinstall a software update?

No. The only way to remove a software update is to restore the backup taken prior to the update.

  • Safari 4 missing from Software Update after fresh install of OS X?

    This seems a little odd...
I recently reset my unibody MacBook Pro with a fresh install of OS X 10.5.6 but, after restarting and going to Software Update, Safari 4 is not showing up in the list of available updates! Version 3.2.1 gets installed but doesn't show any updates? It did last week, but now it's gone?
I know I can download it without using Software Update, I just thought it was strange that it didn't show up. Anyone else noticed this?

    Hi
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
The latest version of Safari - 4.0.1 requires 10.5.7.
