I am a late night radio DJ. I had purchases on my playlist that wouldn't play during my show...I PAID FOR THEM...HAD THEM WORK...THEY DIDN'T WORK DURING MY SHOW, MAKING ME LOOK BAD. WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED????

Did you happen to install anything else, or make any other changes to your system. I'm flummoxed how signing up for an online service could affect file associations. App (pinned) tabs and Tab Groups (Panorama) are stored as part of the session data [1] in the file sessionstore.js [2] in the Firefox profile folder [3].
Make sure that you do not use "Clear Recent History" to clear the "Browsing History" when Firefox is closed because that prevails and prevents Firefox from opening tabs from the previous session.

If you use cleanup software like CCleaner then make sure that Session is unchecked in the settings for the Firefox application.

No, I'm the only one with access to my computer. I deleted all the unwanted songs and I hope they stay deleted. I found all my original songs in another folder. How they got there, I'll never know. It took a while, but I got all my songs back in the iTunes music library where they were before I got tangled up in this iTunes Match boondoggle. Apple has a ways to go before I'll mess with it again. By the way, you have to watch out for sisters.

Out of the blue Photoshop isn't recording any adjustments I make within adjustment layers. It'll record the layers being created, but nothing else. And no, the generator whatnot option isn't on in my preferences. WHAT THE HECK.

First you open Textedit, click "file" in the menu, and click "open recent", it may be there.
If you do not find it there, you download an app called "Find Any File" (http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/); install it, put the name or a unique part of the name in the search field.

What the heck happened to my MacBook Pro? Virus?

Before I explain, My Macbook Pro has go a lot more slower & experienced more freezing. Basically what happened was I was normally surfing the web & I was opening up an app. Then all of a sudden everything disappears. My dock, the toolbar, webpage. Then I end up at my desktop. Everything on my desktop is gone to. I thought it was going to shut off but it didn't. The only thing that was showing up was my desktop picture. The screen didnt turn black or anything. My cursor was moving though. Can anyone tell me what happened? I downloaded Sophos Free Anti for Mac just in case. If anyone has a better anitivirus software, please tell me. I'm using Mac OS X 10.6.8

Highly doubt it was a virus.
But for peace of mind, use ClamX AV to scan.
Could be a corrupted hard drive.
Do a PRAM/SMC reset.
Verify your drive and verify your drive's permissions.
Repair your permissions if necessary.
Also check what loading on login items when you first power up your MB.

What the heck happened to my user id?

all the threads are "unread" and my id has magically changed. did i get flagged by "the man" or something? i'm going to try simply changing it back, but i wanted someone to see this... screenshot follows. i did NOT change my id or in any way mess with my preferneces. haven't been in there (prefs) for a month or more.

i was thinking that, but it seems to have cleared up...
full scenario.
i came into work and unlocked my system (had remained on all night - xp pro sp3, firefox 3.0.10).
i noticed i was STILL LOGGED IN HERE from yesterday.
hit refresh knowing that being on my home machine last night would have invalidated this login. nope. still logged in, at least it looked like it, even after refresh.
so i logged off using the "Sign Out" link at hte top of the page.
that worked and i hit login (the one that appears where my avatar and "welcome, dave milbut" appares in the shot above).
logged in with my normal login and password. refreshed page back to start of 2 forums in seperate tabs (ps lounge and this forum).
i went to click on a topic in the lounge about buying a new monitor ("Ezio Monitors") and got the 404. i refreshed and the switched tabs to this forum. refreshed and went to page 2 to find the 404 thread.
posted there that the 404 issue was still happening and that's when i noticed the issue.

HT201262 What if the error happens while in safe mode?

Have an error occuring in QuarkXpress. Does not always crash but most of the time it happens after 20-2 hours of restarting or switching users. Only way to use Quark after the error message is to restart. The error is unknown and the item tool in quark will not move anything-prompting the message forcing to restart OS completely. Tried to get answers from Quark and they do not know the solution, tried to contact Apple and they assume it's a software problem vice versa!
I started in safe mode and also found the error to happen. Could anyone PLEASE help me with options as to what I should do next. It's been 3 weeks now.
I have uninstalled, installed, updated and renamed extensions as well as updated my OS. Nothing is the cause and nothing fixes it plus I have no idea how to read error logs, crash reports or anything else in the console or utilities manager.
Please help.

Do a backup, using either Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure files/data can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.
Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.

Communication Error (-8).....WHAT IN THE HECK IS GOING ON???

One night i was talking to my friend, Phil, (who also has a macbook) perfectly on iChat AV and it was wonderful. The next night i tried again and it wouldn't work with him or my non-macbook friend, Danielle, but only with a different macbook friend, Cheryl. Now I can't connect with anyone outside of my network. I have only been able to connect to my friend David (I give names so that you ar able to differentiate between who is who). However, David is currently living in my house and is therefore in my network so of course i am able to video chat with him.
Everytime i try i get the same "communication error -8". I have tried various solutions i've found in the forums, but nothing seems to help at all. I've also noticed that A LOT of people are having this same problem and am wondering if perhaps it is a manufacturing error that started at the beginning in the factory when it was being made, but i'm probably wrong about that.
Can anyone tell me if they no the solution to this problem?? HELP!!!!!!!!

Ok most routers or modems have certain ports open so that it works out of the box for Web Browsing and Mail applications.
These ports are sort of virtual and inside the device. Your computer also has them.
So Web browsing happens on port 80 that you may have heard of. Mail can be on several for in and out purposes and for the different types of Mail accounts you can have (POP or IMAP) (port 25, 110, 995 or even 443)
Now there are in fact 65535 of these ports. So other applications and certain different internet protocols use these ports. On line games is one reason. These can use multiple ports for one game.
Now from there routers and modems need the ports above a certain threshold to be opened when you want to use them.
This threshold is port 1024.
Now how these ports are opened on different devices can vary.
Port Forward (or a variation name like Virtual Servers or Pinholes) is the oldest and most common.
This allows you to point one port (or sometime s a range) to a corresponding port(s) on your computer.
An example would be to point port 1024 to port 1024 on your Computer.
This method would only allow this to one IP (your computer) on the LAN.
(Hence the original question - Are you doing this ?)
There is normally a table if you need to open more ports for one Application
Next comes DMZ (Demiltarized Zone) This is a means of opening all the ports to One IP (Computer) Not considered secure, but useful for testing. Consider it an extreme form of Port Forwarding.
Next come Port Triggering.
This uses One port up front so to speak that then openes other ports. It has the advantage that multiple computers can use the ports at the same time.
Then comes UPnP (Universal Plug n Play) This gives control to the applications to open the ports when they need them. (they close after a timed period of Non use).
Again multiple computers can use the same ports at the same time.
Not all routers or modems that route have all methods although some do.
Then we come on to iChat.
This uses 29 ports (for AIM Login, File sending, Text chats, A/V chats, the Jabber side and the Bonjour side) over two protocols (total of 31 entries in some cases)
These ports are above the 1024 threshold and some are particular as Apple has said iChat is a VoIP application.
Most devices that route can be controlled by yourself and have default ways to access their set up pages via a web browser.
This will involve an IP typed into the web browser which will bring up a Pop Up asking for a User ID and (Or at least ) a password.
This site http://portforward.com/routers.htm list many devices.
Clicking on yours and then iChat in the next page will take you to a device and application specific page.
It is obviously then goes on about Port Forwarding settings.
However the pages are useful for the default access info.
Once you have gained access it is a question of checking the menus to see it does UPnP. ( It is a one stop enable/disable setting and allows multiple computers)
Consider a router without the ports open as a hardware firewall.
It may allow outgoing stuff giving you intermittent looking results.
If you tell us which device you have then we can point you to a more specific solution.
Networking in general.
Most of these devices do what is called DHCP. It is not so important about what the name means other than it means the device gives out IP numbers (Addresses) to your computers.
However it is not good networking to have two devices doing DHCP.

What in the world happened with X-Fi softwa

What happened to all the EAX effects that were in Audigy 2? The EAX effects are mostly "HALL" type effects!!! What happened to those cool EAX sounds like "bathroom", "Small Room", "Cave" etc? What did creative do with software? Was the entire Audigy 2 software development team fired or something?
What happened to CMSS & CMSS 2 that I had in Audigy 2? Bass & Treble on a pebble sized knob is not a good idea. I much perfer using sliders.
What happened to Front Center volume and Subwoofer volume?
What happened to all the basics? You guys removed all the essentials!
Right now, I'm using X-Fi mode changer cause the orginal software is lacking so many options. Why can't I set bass and treble in GAME MODE creative? Did you guys get lazy or did you feel it wasn't necessary? We pay premium prices for your hardware and we expect the best. You guys give consumers all these flashy advertising and statements that X-Fi is "THE" sound card to get and when we do upgrade most of us are not suprised but disappointed. Just look at all the X-Fi problem threads on this board.
Listening to music with headphones sounds great, much improvement over Audigy 2 (all effects are off or default), but once I launch a game everything sounds so muffled.

Weather I owned an Audigy or not doesn't make my points any less valid. I was asking you what CMSS/2 where in the Audigy, you didn't even have the decency to explain. Somebody else did and it looks like they are still in the X-Fi just named differently.
No idea how your PC is set-up but I don't have to go into control panel to set bass/treble, I just double click the volume icon and do it in there. Unless the Audigy gave you some kind of acti've desktop with these functions permanently on it you're going to have to do some kind of interaction with something to set these settings, so where's the problem?
OK, no % in the windows sliders but the creative s/w does still show the % and I can't see what the big deal is if it's a slider or a knob, you still use the mouse to set it.
OK, you didn't understand about THX, again not my problem, I was trying to help. Maybe you should read up on what you have just payed money for instead of taking it out on people.
Creative, the X-Fi and it's drivers are far from perfect but I think you are making a mountain out of the wrong mole hill. There really isn't that much, if any, reduced functionality. Things have just been renamed, moved, re imaged. And if you have a problem with that, god help you when you upgrade to Vista!

What in the heck is going on???

So i looked all around these forums and found that i am the only one to be experiencing this problem. It is a long story so i better start from the begining.
OK so i was having a problem with my limewire it kept opening it self up. the forums that i looked at told me that i had a worm in it.so i did a system restore because i couldn't run my anti- virus or open my task manager. I did that and limewire seems to be working fine i was able to open my task manager but still not my anti-virus. so i thought that i would reinstall it... nothing it kept saying that not all files were properly installed. I left it be. Then one day i went to oopen my itunes and it said the same thing that some files weren't properly installed please reinstall. so i tried to and once i did it said the same thing. My quick time isn't working either and when i go to install it, the installshield doesn't pop up...
so i am completly boogle.
anyone out there know what is going on and if you do can you tell me how to fix it in a idiouts guide mannor thanks

i'm not convinced that the System Restore got rid of your worm. if it disabled your antivirus and other security software, you might have been picking up secondary infections for a while now.
the priority here is probably getting the PC clean. it might be a good idea to head to a specialist malware-removal help forum for assistance with that. there's a list of forums at the end of this doxdesk document:

You can also, as said, access it at http://icloud.com.
You presumably had a MobileMe account (since you cannot set iCloud up on an Snow Leopard Mac) so all the above is dependent on your having migrated it to iCloud before August 1st. Did you do this?

What is the pop-up page and how do you disable it?

When I read through documents in Acrobat XI, a small, miniature version of the page pops up on the upper right hand corner. It is surrounded by a dark gray border with a white box inside that shows me where I am on the page, and the message "page X of Y" appearing at the bottom. What is this? I searched the manual (the Help and Tutorials document) in vain to find out what this is, I've Googled it, Bing'ed it. No dice. Hovering my cursor over the image does not reveal anything either. What in the heck is this thing called, and how do I disable it? It is very distracting and not very useful.

I am aware that you can turn it off by clicking on the "x" (which is barely visible). However, this is only temporary. When I scroll down to the next page, the box pops up again. So I have to click if off on every page. What I am looking for is a way to completely disable this function so I don't have to deal with it to begin with. Thoughts?

My edited clips sometimes get shaky. What is the deal?

Im using iMovie 08 again.
Its been a while and Im impressed by whats been added in terms of functionality.
Im having a weird issue though.
Sometimes if I move an edited clip around in the project, on playback it gets shaky like there is an earthquake going on.
If I delete the edited clip from the time line and put it back in from the clips bin, it usually fixes itself.
But what makes the shakiness happen?

got a new macbook pro last week and loaded ilife 09 today - no difference.
the odd thing is that last night projects were playing ok, whereas today many of the clips have the shaky shimmer. clips play fine in the event library - only problems when dropped into project.
