What do YOU think that "factory settings" means?
Not quite, because you can still redownload all your purchased apps and music.  And everything that is synced from applications on your computer such as your calendar and your contacts can be resynced.

  • Restoring iPod touch to factory settings

I am trying to restore my ipod touch to factory settings.  It's 32G and about 75% full.  It's been going since yesterday afternoon and I can't even turn it off.  Is it normal?  What do I do?

I'm not familiar with that function.  To my knowledge you must do it from the computer.  However, your unit is hung up.
First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.

  • After restoring iPod Touch to factory settings it's still connected to my account...?

I am going to sell my iPod Touch 5th Gen so I went on my laptop and restored it to factory default. I've done this before and it disconnected an iPod Nano from my account and I was able to sell it, but this time I got a message on my laptop saying "This iPod is linked to your Apple iD. Please activate"
Is there any way for me to disconnect it so it isn't linked to my ccount anymore? Thanks

    Hi pluto,
Follow the instructions in this article. I think the main thing you need to do is to go to Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Content and Settings. This will turn off Find My iPhone and delete your iCloud account, which I think is the culprit here:

I had the same problem a few days ago - just let it keep circling as it will eventually stop.  Make sure it's plugged into the computer and walk away.  Check on it periodically and do whatever the stupid thing says to do.  I think mine "circled" about 5 times before it finally worked. . .

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

I had to change my hard drive, now i'v tried to reinstall itunes it says i have to restore my iopd touch to factory settings and will loose my files. I have a few films on there and they show up on my purchases. If i restore, will i be able to get my films back ? as at the moment my ipod wont work now untill i restore anyway.

Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your ipod. Only if you back up your device manually before syncing, you can restore from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
    Here's how to:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your ipod to your computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your ipod without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your device for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the ipod for the first time.

  • After restoring my ipod touch to factory settings, can we recover old apps and songs

We forgot the password to the iPod touch, when we went to restore the iPod to factory setting, it told us after it was complete that it would give us an options whether or not we wanted to apps/songs/contacts back. The problem is after the iPod got restored to factory settings, we never got the option to download the old stuff again.. Is there any way we can recover that or is it just gone?

  • Item unavailable when restoring a macbook to factory settings

I am in the process of restoring my Macbook to factory settings. while following the steps listed on the Apple website. Unfortunately when I get to the step where you select where the OS X will be installed on, I get an error message that says the item is temporarily unavailable Try again later. I attempted to complete the reset earlier as well and did not have this issue. Unfortunately, I had a limited internet connection and had to cancel. I am now stuck at the Mac OS X Utilities screen unable to install an operating system. I am attempting to reinstall OSX Lion (10.7).
Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Hey RyNem,
It sounds as if your erase and reinstall of Lion on your MacBook Pro was interrrupted and you need to start over again. You should be able to restart the computer by holding down the power button to shut it down.
Use the steps in this article to erase and reinstall -

Note that it is important that you have a good Internet connection when doing this.

  • An unknown error (2003) when restore iPod Touch

downloaded the latest version of iTunes and tried to restore my iPod touch to iTunes, but it complains that it will have an unknown error (2003). I tried to restore my iPod about 20 times, but the same error comes every time. Then I plug the iPod off my computer and I plugged it in again. But then iTunes was complaining to me that the iPod that I plugged in is on a restore mode. I did everything by correcting the bug and am looking for the whole night Apple.com to answer this problem. I did the thing with Notepad, but it did not help at all. I'm looking for all the troubleshooting and I checked my computer but it did not help at all. I downloaded iTunes again but it did not help. What can I do? When my iPod is in a restore mode, I can not put music on, and I can not even open my iPod. The display shows only the cable and iTunes symbol. Please, help me.

Does nobody have the answer to this question? Was somply tryin to update my ipod touch and it got all the way to the end and saod it couldnt update, then went in to "recovery mode" and needed to restored. Restoring will not work either, (error 2003) And now I too have an ipod that will not do anything! I dont care if it wont update, I just want it back the way it was before I plugged it in and tried to update it. Someone must have the answer to this!
