What internet speed am i likely to get up to on my WRT54GL

Hi all
I am on 20Mb cable. I get that speed on my main PC wired through the WRT54GL wireless router but I get nowhere near that speed over the network.
I usually connect to the router at 54Mbs.
Firmware version is 4.30.9
Davvo63

Well, on wireless pc you would be getting only 54 MBps speed which is transfer rate… as you are using router in network you won’t be getting 20 MBps of internet service speed…but you should get 17 to 18 MBps of speed…

How do I find out what internet speed I signed up for?

Isn't it very strange that nowhere on line or on my bill does it state what speed internet I am paying for?

  • My internet speed has slowed down since getting the 1TB time capsule---why?

I had the Linksys wireless G router with speedbooster, now that I have replaced it with the TC, my internet is slower than before. I often have to hit a link several times just to get it to go through. What is the problem? I've tried switching channels between 11 and 6, but nothing changes. I have to macs with wireless N capabilities and 2 PC's that use "G".

I've even shortened the name of the TC.

  • Ordered a doubling of internet speed, but I am not seeing any difference in speed

Is there any thing I can view that will tell me exactly what internet speed I am receiving.  The only thing I know of is by putting my mouse over the litte "bars" icon in the lower left of the screen.  It says "Speed: 54.0 mbps".    It said that before, and now it says the same thing after my internet speed was supposed to have been doubled.   ???

Back to this part of the question, there are several ways to test speed.....  One of my favorites is http://speedtest.net/ as previously mentioned.
Just keep in mind that your speed is determined by the slowest part of the network path including the server at the other end.  Most likely you are getting the FIOS speed from your router to the CO.

  • VBA Internet speed

Hi I'm new to this type of scripting however know a bid of VBA and MSaccess. However this is my first project using WMI.
Did a function with pingstatus that went well.
I'm now trying to measure my internet speed on this PC and get the value in MSaccess. I searched around and can now find at least my network adapter.
    Function nw()strComputer = "."
    Set objWMIService = GetObject("winmgmts:\\" & strComputer & "\root\CIMV2")
    Set colItems = objWMIService.ExecQuery( _
    "SELECT * FROM Win32_NetworkAdapter WHERE NetConnectionStatus = 2", , 48)
    For Each objItem In colItems
    Debug.Print "-----------------------------------"
    Debug.Print "Win32_NetworkAdapter instance"
    Debug.Print "-----------------------------------"
    Debug.Print "Name: " & objItem.Name
    Next
    End Function
Now what I like to do is get the mom. speed on that adapter
The same as what you can see on the "windows task manager/networking/networkutilization"
I tried every property in the win32_network adapter but can't find the right one.
    All help appreciated.

It is not on the adapter.  The utilization is a performance number.  Run Perfmon and look at the network data.
Counters are an advanced element of scripting.  Search for examples.

  • I do not have a high speed internet connection. How can I get Mountain Lion on a disk for install?

I do not have a high speed internet connection. How can I get Mountain Lion on a disk for install on my 24" Imac?

As long as you use your Apple ID to purchase it, I don't see why they wouldn't let you download the installer on one of their Macs and put it on a pocket drive.
Or, a friend with a high speed connection?
I agree with you about the delivery method, just trying to help you get what you want.

  • Whats going on with my internet speed?

So after checking when my area might get fibre I decided to check what my speeds are now. So we have the 17mb package I believe although BT says we should be getting about 19mb. So went on to speedtest.net, and I got this
Now we have been using this packages for years I know I have had way higher then this, hell last time I checked this speedtest website I was getting 19Mbps+ and I have downloaded games from steam at like 2-2.2MB/s which right now is at about 580KB/s. Any ideas?

welcome to the BT community forum where customers help customers and only BT employees are the forum mods
in order for the forum members to help please can you post the adsl stats from your router you may need to 'show detail' to get all stats (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser and navigate to adsl or if HH4/5 then go to troubleshooting then logs and you are looking for 2 line together when hub last connected to internet and they will show your connection speed and noise margin or if netgear enter 192.168.0.1). Then run  btspeedtester  (MAC users may have problems). when first test completes then run diagnostic test and post the results ( do not reset the router).
are you connected directly via a filter to the NTE5 master or test socket or to somewhere else? Is the master the only phone socket in your home?
Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal
Someone may then be able to offer help/assistance/suggestions to your problem

  • Why is download sooooooooo slow?  Checked internet speed - 6.5Mbs; seems OK and yet movie is going to take 2 hours to start. What sort of BS is that?

Why is download of movie so slow? Internet speed good - 6.5Mbs. Paid for movie. But told 2 hrs to start. Never have had this problem, why now?

        1.  6.5 Mb per sec. is slow for streaming video.
        2.  That speed only means that you COULD get that speed not that you WILL get that speed.
        3.  Have you done any tests to see what speeds you are actually getting, or what the quality of that connection is?  packet loss, slow DNS, etc. etc.
        4.  Even if you did have a "fast" connection that does not mean you get a great connection to every site.  So the if the connection between you and iCloud/iTunes is bottle necked you will not get much though put regardless of what connection speed you pay for.
       5.  Going to guess you are using WiFi which never gives reliable usable or performance for streaming video.
       6.  It is also possible that iCloud was just over whelmed at that instance and could not provide much bandwidth.
       7.  Your ISP may also be throttling your network traffic from sites like NetFlix and iCloud.

  • What is up with this internet speed spike?

Lately my internet speed has been all over the place, I  have done the online support and it didnt help. It worked fine when they "tested" it aka made me restart my modem.
and moments later at another nearby server.
I only have the one computer on and I am paying for 75Mb/s ( megabits). Then it spikes back to my normal speed.
During the time of the speed test, I was the only one online, the only other verizon service that was running was our TV.
    Questions:
-What can I make verizon do to solve this issue?
Edit: these tests are on a wired connection.
And now its back to normal:
my biggest issue is it basically kicks me out of some games due to the spike.

It could have nothing to do with your connection.  I've seen the same thing a few times.  But when I picked a differnet speed test server the results were what I expect.  The last time, with a server in my own state, I was getting results between 2Mbps and 20Mbps.  With a server over a 1000 miles away, I consistently got 80+Mbps.   That lasted for over 2 days before my defaut server returned to normal.
During that same period, the default server on the Verizon speed test timed out.  But results were good when I picked a different server.
Presumably, this type of results is area dependent and will effect performance on some sites but not others.

  • I have always heard that Macs are less likely to get infected with a virus.  My computer has been running much slower since I installed Maverick.  Just not sure what the problem might be.  Is there a way for me to run a diagnosis?

I have always heard that Macs are less likely to get infected with a virus.  My computer has been running much slower since I installed Maverick.  Just not sure what the problem might be.  Is there a way for me to run a diagnosis?

Some have found relief just by reinstalling, but it is more than likely incompatible third-party applications that slow it down.
You will have to investigate to see what it is.
Open Activity Monitor and see if anything is using a lot of CPU% or Memory. If they are, check to see if there is an update for them.
Another place to look is the Console. See if anything is logging repeating messages with throttling and/or respawn in the All Messages list.
Sometimes it is not that easy to root out the problems, but if you have anything that purported to clean, protect, optimize, maintain, or flush your system, then that is likely the cause.

A misleading and malicious popup. Launch Safari with the Shift key held down; if that doesn't work, temporarily disconnect the computer from the Internet.

  • What's the fastest usable Internet speed I can utilize via WiFi?

I'm thinking about upgrading our Internet speed. Is there a wall that a dual-band Time Capsule hits?
For instance, If I got a 75Mbps Internet connection, would the WiFi reflect this full speed on my Mac or is there a limit?
I see references to a 54Mbps limit on the Interwebs, but can't find a definitive answer.
    Thanks.

The Time Capsule can deliver up to 300+ Mbps at 5 GHz and 130 Mbps at 2.4 GHz, so a 75 Mbps Internet connection will not provide much of a challenge.
As you know, the actual speed that you get on your network will depend on a number of factors, including distance from the router to the wireless device, obstructions in the signal path, wireless interference from other sources like cordless phones, etc.

I have a dsl internet conection with a download speed of .66 mbps.  I would like to watch netflix with a wireless conection to apple tv.  What is the required internet speed?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Netflix recommend a minimum connection speed of 0.5 Mbps, however at that speed many of the other features of the Apple TV will be painfully slow.

  • I plug in my iPad and make sure it is connected to the internet and locked.  I still get "This iPad hasn't been backed up in (N) Days"  What am I doing wrong?

I plug in my iPad and make sure it is connected to the internet and locked.  I still get "This iPad hasn't been backed up in (N) Days"  What am I doing wrong?

Is the iPad plugged in to the mains ? You can force a backup via Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > Back Up Now
If the 'hasn't been backed up' message is stuck on the screen and you can't clear it then try a soft-reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider if it appears), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot. You can then force a backup as above.
