  • What is the best way to manage storage on iPad & iPhone?

My biggest usage is in photos.  In general, should I be storing music & pictures on my new macbook & only leaving "important" items on the mobile devices?  Is there a way to make this backup/transfer automatic?  I know these are basic questions, but I only encountered it when wanting to upgrade to IOS7 on the iPad.  Thanks for any insight you might have!

If you have both a macbook and an ipad than I would use your macbook as your main storage device. With icloud set up, you can sync your photos that you take on the ipad to the mac and then delete the unwanted ones on your ipad as needed.
Your main music library should also be on your mac. Then sync the music you want form itunes to your ipad, as needed.
Backups can be set up to be fairly automatic, but it backs up your ipad in one file, in case you need to restore your ipad. (you can't access individual files within the backup, such as photos)
If youre trying to do clear up space on your ipad, then yes, photos, videos and music is the place to start.
Unfortunately, itunes syncing is a one-way transfer process from the mac to your ipad, not the other way.
There are however, plenty of apps and services that can help you do this however.
Start with the built in iphoto app on your mac
Photos and VideosImporting personal photos & videos from device to  your computer

If you have music on your ipad that was downloaded directly from the itunes store, you can delete them and download them again from the itunes store directly to your mac's itunes library. (you wont be charge again, same for apps)

  • Storage Capacity Description

    Hi Guys,
Just wondering...what comprises "OTHER" on the iPad's storage capacity description? It seems to be taking up a lot of space on my iPad...next to my photos.
    Thanks.

It can be lots of things...
Data from apps. Calendars, Notes, etc.
If it's excessive, you might have to restore it.
Mine currently has ~600MB of Other. Seems normal from iOS experiences.
You may have more and it be normal. If it's GB's, I'd try a restore and copy data back.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
First check that your device is correctly connected to the wifi/internet (settings > wifi)
If your back up continually fails, you might try turning off back up on your mobile device (settings > iCloud > storage & backup) and then deleting the backup file from iCloud by swiping the backup file on the mobile device (settings > iCloud > storage & backup > manage…) and then turning back up on again.
If this doesn't help, try turning off some items for back up in a pattern to try to establish if your problem is being caused by specific data on your device.
Being able to back up to the cloud can be very useful, especially if you don't have access to a computer or have infrequent access to one, however unless you specifically need to use iCloud for back up, you will find backing up to iTunes significantly more convenient and possibly more reliable.

  • What's the easiest way to add storage to a mac mini. (1TB hard drive but only 32G of real storage). External device, internal or partitioning?

What's the easiest way to add storage to a mac mini. (1TB hard drive but only 32G of real storage). External device, internal or is there some way to partition? I tried doing so but received a message that there wasn't enough free space to partition. Seems like a 1TB drive should have more storage than my Ipad

Its worth confirming what free space you have on your drive:
go to:   Apple Menu > About this Mac >  More Info > Storage
The bar chart shows how much free space there is on the drive:
Please realise that partitioning does not create extra space so this wont help you.
If your free space is less than 20 % you should get extra storage with an external USB or Firewire drive, any make or model will work.

  • What's wrong with my Ipod5's storage?

So recently the storage with my ipod has been really messed up. I didn't bother to download ios 8 because I didn't want it, so I have ios 7. But there has been and never was any problem with it. I also just noticed that my ipod says the overall storage is 27.3 GB which can't be right.Maybe that has something to do with it.  But anyways, the storage ran out of space really fast and I thought I had a lot more space left than I did. I check it and I didn't have much space, so I go deleting a bunch of songs, apps, and photos to get some space back. I got a little space back, but was still mad about having to delete these things. The next time I check to see how much storage I have, it's back to full capacity. I've been wondering if anyone else has this problem, but all the questions involve ios 8. I'm not really sure what to do but I think I just might reset the whole thing so it'll be back to its factory setting. Some of my apps have been slow too. And when I look to see how much storage everything takes up, I think it might be off.

That is correct a 32 GB iPod only has about 27 GB available to the user. The difference between the two is mostly taken up by the operating system since that is not available for use by the user. The remainder is due to how GB is advertised and reported

  • HT5527 How do I know what is taking up most of my storage in iCloud?

I keep getting a message on my IPhone4s that it cannot be backed up to ICloud becuase there is not enought storage.
I thought apps, Itune songs, purchased books and Photos don't count towards the 5 free Gigs?
It must be data but I dont have it save any mail, just Contacts, Reminders, Calandar, Find my phone, Photo Stream & Documents & Data
When I look on my phone settings, manage storage it shows
    IPhone 4S is 4.4 GB
    IPad4 is 96 MB
    IPod is 51 MB
    Documents & Data 30.3 MB
    Medical app is 30.0 MB
    Preview is 39.5 KB
430 MB available of 5.0 GB on ICloud
If I click on the preview line all is says is Documents & Data 39.5 KB there is no way to turn off/not save preview. But I don't understand what I don't have enough storage. I removed sync ITunes sonds off my Iphone & only play them on my I Pod. I use the IPhone for my apps.
Any idea whats taking up so much storage? And how do I delete apps that are saved in my I cloud that I no longer want?
    Thank you for any help,
    D.

Photo stream photos don't count against your storage but the photo and videos in your camera roll are part of the backup and do.  As you said, purchased media doesn't.  All of your text messages and their attachments are also included in the backup so you might check to see if you have lots of photos and videos in your messages.
You might also want to connect the phone to iTunes and check the usage bar graph to see how large "Other" is.  Sometimes that can't get extremely large, leading to large backups.

  • My MacBook Pro HD Storage Capacity is getting full with majority of usage classified as Other (126.77GB). What is included as Other and how can I edit and delete unnecessary content?

The Storage capacity on my MacBook Pro (Mid 2010, Version 10.10, 4 GB Memory) is getting full. It appears I only have 29.04 GB free of 319.21 GB. The majority of usage is classified as "Other" (126.77 GB) and "Movies" (106.05 GB).  I would like to edit and delete some of the Other content, but what is included in this category? How do I know what is safe to delete? I don't have many documents created. I have saved and filed content from internet sites... do these type of files use a lot of storage capacity (mostly recipes)?
I have very few Apps and have been updating all software regularly.  Mose recent update was Yosemite.

  • What will happen if i mention like load-on-startup -1 /load-on-startup   ?

    Hi All,
In my web.xml what will happen if i mention like <load-on-startup>
    -1</load-on-startup> ?

It's not WebLogic-specific, the load-on-startup web.xml element is a standard common component to all application servers.
As for what it does, then yes, the BEA link explains it well enough. So that explanation applies to WAS too.

  • I deleted over 200 self taken videos and over 500 pictures in the Moments window in my photo tab.  They deleted but still show in my setting in the About window and I haven't gained any additional storage capacity.  What do I do now?

I deleted over 200 self taken videos and over 500 pictures in the Moments window in my photo tab.  They deleted but still show in my setting in the Setting/About window and I haven't gained any additional storage capacity.  What do I do now? Please help!  Thanks in advance for any assistance!!!

Check the Recently Deleted album. Deleted photos will reside there for up to 30 days. This allows all those people who accidently delete photos to recover them, something they couldn't do before. To actually free up the space you might have to delete the photos in the Recently Deleted album.

  • Where to find storage capacity info & what i used up already?

Manually delete applications you drag-installed and use a provided uninstaller or software such as AppZapper for others.

  • What's taking up all my iCloud storage

I don't know what's taking up all my iCloud storage even though I only have two items in there that total to 14.1 mb only.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
I note you have been using back up. Data that has been written to iCloud storage and has since been deleted can still show up on your usage even though the space is still available. I'd monitor the situation and if adding new content still results in your available space being removed, I'd contact support.

Replace the Time Capsule with one that has a larger hard drive. Or erase the one you have and start a new set of backups or backup one of the computers to a different backup drive.
