What is a dock adaptor??

I have a 1gb nano ipod ..just downloaded music..I want to be able to charge the battery with the adaptor but some say certain adaptors need a dock adaptor..I dont have a dock..I dont care if my ipod lays down to charge and is not in a stand.. after reading reviews of adaptors Im totaly confused and just want it plan and simple..if i am not near my computer how do I charge my nano..? what does a dock adaptor look like? i think I missed that item in the box i got my nano in..please help me figure out what I need to charge up with out the computer... thanks!!

The dock adapter is the little white plastic piece that came with your iPod. It is used with this Universal Dock to allow a good fit of your iPod into the Universal Dock.
If you don't have a dock, then you don't need to worry about the dock adapter at all.
if i am not near my computer how do I charge my nano..?
You'll need the iPod USB Power Adapter for this. It allows you to charge your iPod from an electrical outlet when you're not using your computer.

  • What is the "dock adaptor"?

In the "included items" section of the ipod nano specs, it lists a dock adaptor. Does anyone know what this is?

I just got a Nano today, the dock adapter looks like it should allow you to put it in a larger iPod dock but I couldn't get it to quite fit in mine so I'm not sure exactly what it's for.

  • IPod Touch dock adaptor - black or white?

This may sound like a dumb question, but does the dock adaptor that comes with your Touch always come in white? Or do some boxes contain a black one? I'm curious because the item I want to use this adaptor for is all black, but of course I got a white adaptor.

Sadly, Apple has yet to add black accessories to the lineup.
Frankly, it's the only thing Apple does right now that seems really cheesy to me.
Same with the remotes, power cords, etc.

  • What kind of VGA adaptor do I use with my ibook G4?, What kind of VGA adaptor do I use with my ibook G4?

I bought a VGA adaptor wire for my Mac ibook G4, but it doesn't fit my port.  What kind of VGA adaptor do I use?

Hi, and welcome to Apple Support Community.
You need the Apple VGA Display Adapter. This is for video-out to an external display. It will not get you the audio.
If you want video out to a TV, it will require a different adapter.

  • Dock adaptor for Gen 2 nano

Watch out for this!! I have 2nd Gen ipod nano & a BLACK Bose sound system. The ipod can only be docked using the white Dock adaptor it arrives with. Bose have no plans to produce a 2nd gen nano dock adaptor & nor do apple!!
Therefore I have a black system white a white Dock adaptor
    Sounds great; looks yuk

The Apple dock adaptor only comes in white as it's meant for use with Apple's own universal dock and not a 3rd party item like the Bose Sound Dock.
This is up to Bose to address (as discussed here previously many times).

  • What is the ETHERNET ADAPTOR?

I have switched to running my internet desktop Intel iMac with wireless. I was using an ethernet cable. That cable is now disconnected and it shows up in the network preference as disconnected. However in the network preference the "ethernet adaptor (en2)" shows active. What is the ethernet adaptor, why is it active and what does it do? Thanks.

Are you running parallels or the equivalent because that creates virtual network devices to trick windows into sharing the network with OS X.

  • Laptop HP DV6-2088dx - what kind of dock station will work with it?

what kind of dock station will work with it?

    Hi John,
    Please find answer below
1 -- What are the specs of a laptop that can handle CS 6?
It depends on the application you will use and install. Video apps like Premiere pro, After effects have higher requirement as compare to InDesign, Illustrator etc. Please review the tech specs for each application. This link will help with the details :System requirements | Adobe Creative Suite 6
2 -- Can I sign up for Creative Cloud services for, say, a couple months and then suspend the service when I'm back to using my desktop? What's the pricing for that?
Yes, you can, You can find the pricing details creative.adobe.com/plans
3 -- Can I use Creative Cloud when I don't have access to Internet because internet service is sporadic or non-existent in northwoods?
No, you can't. You need internet atleast once to activate the software.
4 -- Can I easily transfer projects from CS 6 laptop to CS 5.5 on desktop?
It depends on file format. File format like JPEG, PSD, TIFF etc are universal and shall work perfectly fine between CS6 and CS5.5 however format like INDD will be a concern as InDesign file saved in newer version could not be opened in older version directly.
5 --  Alternatively, can I simply install my existing CS 5.5 in a new laptop?
    Yes, you can.
    Hope this helps

  • IPod Classic to Lightning Dock adaptor

Does Apple plan to make and certify an adaptor that will enable the iPod Classic to be docked into new HiFi systems that have the Apple Lightning dock?

    Hi Roberto UK,
The majority of us at the discussions forums don't know about Apple's future products until they officially reveal or release them.
Sadly, at this moment in time, Apple hasn't made an adapter to connect 30 pin devices (like the iPod Classic) to a lightning dock. There are, however, some adaptors that do what you want them to, though reading the Amazon reviews for them, they are nowhere near the quality of an Apple or Apple certified adapter.
    Now, you have a few choices;
    You could buy a new HiFi with a lightning connector and use a 3.5mm aux-aux cable (both ends are like that of a headphone cable);
    You could look for a new HiFi with a 30 pin dock that some companies still produce;
Buy a new HiFi with a lightning dock and try your luck with a third-party adapter which could work, but you should have a cable like the one mentioned in choice 1 as a backup, should the adapter stop working for any reason.
I would personally recommend you buy a HiFi with a lightning port over a 30 pin one since, if you buy a new Apple handheld product in the near future, it will most probably have a lightning port, therefore you don't want to have to shell out £25 for a 30 pin-to-lightning adapter for (all of) your HiFis.
    Good Luck,
    Stefan

  • Ipod touch 4g dock adaptor

So I got a new Ipod touch 4g for christmas yey! But it doesn't fit into my dock so I was going to get a new adaptor for it. My problem is I have a number already but not sure what number is reccomended for ipod 4g could someone tell me so I dont end up wasting my money on one I already have thanks

The Apple Universal Dock works for many generations of iPod Touch's.
If you purchased one of these newer models it should have come with the correct dock adpater.

The only thing you need to change is the adapter for the correct iPod Touch.
#16 dock adapter is for the 2nd and 3rd generation model.
#20 dock adapter is for the 4th generation model.
If you don't have the #20 dock adapter, they are available from Apple here:

  • What is a dock for??

Hi - sorry about this question, which might seem a bit dumb, but I'm curious and everyone else seems to know.
I've just ordered a 60G iPod, with a Camera Connector and a case.
Now, I keep seeing docks mentioned all over the place. My previous iPod was a 1st generation scroll wheel iPod and they didn't make docks for those. I'm a bit confused about 1. what are the advantages of having a dock and 2. do I need one??
    Thanks!

a dock is an easy option for syncing or charging and is not essential but saves space and stops the back scratching.

  • What IS the dock for?

The iPhone is the only Apple product I own and I'm really not sure what the dock is for? It appears I am able to charge the phone without it by just using the cable... Can someone please tell me if/when I need to use the dock? What would be some situations requiring it?

The dock is good if you want to set up a permanent docking area for your phone. I have such a set up in my bedroom. I also have an extra cable that I use with my iPod, and iPhone for syncung with my computer. The dock is excelent if your looking for a static setup such as that.

  • I need some suggestions on what type of dock to buy for my iPod Touch 4 that would be combatable with it.

I use to have a JBL dock for my iPod Touch 4 but it no longer works with it.  I seem to be having some problems finding a dock that would work with a iPod Touch 4.   All I want is a good dock with stereo sound and that is chargable and would also have an adaptor so I won't have to use batteries but one with batteries will do if that's all I can find.  I don't need one that has a radio and a clock with it.  One that probably doesn't go over 100.00.  Would like some suggestions from anyone please?   Thanks.

Thanks for the replies. I have finally found a definitive answer on the Microsoft website (after a few days of virtual digging).
    http://download.microsoft.com/download/6/B/A/6BA3215A-C8B5-4AD1-AA8E-6C93606A4CFB/Windows_Server_2012_R2_Remote_Desktop_Services_Licensing_Datasheet.pdf
And I quote for the benefit of everyone else looking for the same answers:
"While RDS is shipped with Windows Server software, it is licensed separately through a Client Access License (CAL) model. This means that each accessing end point (i.e., a User or a Device) must be covered by an RDS license to access Microsoft VDI infrastructure.
And this CAL is an additive CAL, which means that in addition to a Windows Server CAL, customers must acquire a Windows Server RDS CAL for each user or device that:
    - Directly or indirectly accesses any of the RDS product functionality, and/or
    - Directly or indirectly interacts with the graphical user interface of the server software using RDS functionality or other third-party technology
For example, to access RDS functionality in Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows Server 2012 CALs and Windows Server 2012 RDS CALs are required along with the server software licenses."

  • What is a Ethernet adaptors on very old Toshiba laptop

I recently acquired a very old Tosiba laptop from a friend.
My daughter wishes to use it for her iPod and has tried to install a Tiscali Broadband connection on it, and was told she didn't have an Ethernet Adaptor.
Neither of us know what an Ethernet adaptor is, nor where to get it or what to do with it!
Could anybody help us with this?

    Hi
The Ethernet adaptor means either the LAN card or the WLan card.
In your case it could be a LAN card.
Could you please post the notebooks name?
    This would be very useful.

  • Looking for Dockable Case, What about old Docking Station from ipod?

    Hey everyone,
You must know by now that most plastic cases wont let you dock your ipod because the new docking station is too tight. Has anyone tried using the old dock from the video ipod or older and than docking with a plastic case? If so, what's a good case to buy to protect from dropping which would fit in the old docking stations?

I just bought a Speck Toughskin, which I really like. It feels pretty rugged and seems like it would protect the iPod if I dropped it (I'm a klutz). It has a detachable belt clip on the back. I also like the hard screen protector--it has a little rubber rim on the bottom so it doesn't actually touch the screen, which should keep it from getting scratched. My only concern is how well the iPod will dissipate heat while charging, but I figure I can punch a few small holes in the back if it becomes an issue.
The only downsides to this particular case are that you cannot put it in a dock, it does bulk up the iPod a bit, and it completely covers the iPod so it's not the best choice for someone that wants to maintain the standard appearance of their iPod. But for good solid protection, it seems pretty hard to beat (no pun intended).
