Unless you want a new computer, forget about AVCHD. It requires too much muscle to edit comfortably on anything but the fastest computer.
What camera is nice, depends on your budget. Formats that are easy to edit are HDV, DVCProHD (P2) and XDCAM. In the consumer range you could look at the Canon HV40 or XH-A1s, in the prosumer range look at the Panasonic AG-HPX170, Canon XH-H1s, JVC GY-ND250 or Sony HVR Z5 or Z7 and all Sony XDCAM cameras, especially the EX1 and EX3. In the professional range look at the Sony PDW-F355 or upward.

  • What's the best Java Editor?

Right now I'm using JCreator. I've tried JBuilder, but it keeps crashing on my machine and it runs damn slow...
Is there a better editor out there that shows your errors clearer and stuff?

The fastest "IDE" is actually a good text editor like
TextPad and your Java SDK. The learning curve is
basically nil, the cost is incredibly low, and you
have more learning opportunities. An IDE, however,
makes GUI building faster if you can live with the
limitations and excess code.Hi, I don't agree with you - using "only" a good texteditor for programing purpose is, in my opinion, the better way to Java - ok, you have to read a lot before you get in going, but I bet, when looking on 2 java newbies who invested 3 month in learning java, the one with the "editor only" will know more about java and building a GUI and his programs may be more compact . o O (*g* he had to type all this, so he begins to learn short coding earlier).
With an IDE you will - as a newbie - come earlier to little programs that work, but you will need more time to do the real thing, because your understanding of the java background is less - who reads the automatic generated parts of the program as a newbie? - And, given a normal texteditor to both of them - the 2 guys in the paragraph above - who would be able to write a little java program faster?
The learning curve isn't basically nil - if you really work on the topic of learning to write a java program, and not only arrange components on the screen and let the IDE work.
    greetings Marsian
P.S.: I am German, my girl friend is English - she told me now, that she interprets your posting as postive to the editor only solution - hmm ... now I am confused - why do english talking persons don't say what they are meaning?

  • What is a good java book

I am new to java. I had a class on it and the book we used in there was cumbersome and unorganized at best. I am wondering what other people have found are good books to help you get better at java. I need something that I can find answers to basic questions and also more advanced ones. If possible I'm looking for one that can also work like a reference book where if I need to know something specific that I can find that pretty quickly too.
Is there such a thing out there? Or am I looking for the impossible? Please help... anyone?

    Core Java Fundamentals - ISBN - 0130471771
Core Java Advanced features - ISBN - 0130927384
These assume you know another object orientated language.
The best refrence is the java documentation available at java.sun.com or it can be downloaded.

  • What is a good size SSD to use in the 2011 MBP's?

I have heard many people say they buy the 115, 128, 240, 512GB SSD's to use as his or her start up or boot drive...  I know SSD's are faster than HDD's but what is the most logical size SSD to use as a boot disk?  I am wanting to get an SSD and keep music, movies, and other files on my HDD in a data doubler.  Thanks for any input in advance!

    Drawbacks of SSD
1: Can not be securely erased, the driver won't allow it.
2: Limited writes (answer to #1)
3: Can't be used for large file transfer on/off to take advantage of the speed (see #2)
4: Prohibitive costs, need high speed and high storage for Bootcamp/Triple booting Mac's (OS X, Linux , Windows)
This is the fastest, largest, SDD money can buy (click to see)
A rough in the head calculation with the drive above, provided it had a external drive just as fast to offload data (no bottlenecks), could offload 500GB of data in about 15 minutes verses a hour with a 7,200 RPM drive.
One drive is $1800 and the other is $100-$200.
One is not securely erasable and the other is.
One has limited writes and the other has no practical limit.
One would have to have pretty deep pockects to throw away $1800 SSD drives like tissue paper to utilize their awesome speed for the only practical thing it's good for, transfering huge amounts of files quickly.

  • WHAT IS A GOOD AE FONT to use for mathematical notation?

Hello, what font would you use for graphics containing the following Greek and other symbols in After Effects of the Lorentz transformation?
I've been poking around the various fonts that came with my Production Suite Premium without too much luck.
    Thanks!
    Matt

At the link in Daftly's reply, the Mathematical Pi font is a good one, but a couple other thoughts...
The standard in the world of math publishing is, or will soon become, the STIX family of fonts. If you look at the bottom of their page and see the 6 huge organizations who are behind these fonts, you'll see why.
Any decent Unicode font (whether or not it has Unicode in its name) will have a full complement of Greek symbols.
What a Unicode font won't have are characters that stretch, like the parentheses in your example. For that, you'll need "math notation software" such as the ones Navarro mentioned. Either that, or you'll be doing a lot of manual editing in Illustrator.
The style guide for whoever you're submitting your work to, whether it's your university to which you'll submit your work or a corporation you work for, will likely have specifications for typesetting, and may specify a particular font. I've worked with a corporation that specified Palatino for publication, which I personally like as a font, but it's nigh impossible to typeset middle-level to advanced math in Palatino. Hopefully you can find some compromise.

  • What's a good calendar service to use with iCal on iPhone and mac?

Sometime around iOS 7 and Mavericks updates, my Google calendar stopped playing nice with iCal on my phone. I'm wondering what other people are doing.
I don't know whether it was Google or Apple that caused the issue, and I'm not too fussed either way, I just want to have something that works again.
What does 'not playing nice' mean?
I used to be able to create an appointment, add my wife as an invitee, and it would appear in her iCal.
Now, it appears in her email, but not calendar. Clicking "yes" on the email loads safari instead of iCal. Then there's this whole log in thing. It's annoying.
    What I'd like
    Three things:
    1. I'd like my wife and I to each have a personal calendar. She should have read/write access to her calendar, and read-only to mine (and vice versa).
    2. I'd like a share calendar that we can both see and write to. We used this for family events.
    3. I'd like to be able to invite my wife to an event, and have that invite appear in iCal both on her phone and her mac.
Everything should of course work well with iCal.
I don't care if it works with Google services, although if there's a way to fix my google calendar so that it works right, I'm open to that.

  • What's a good third party to use with an unwanted rarely used iPod Shuffle?

    Hello.
I don't want to use Apple's iTunes. I have these updated operating systems (OSes): Debian (Linux) stable, Windows XP Pro. SP3, and Mac OS X (10.5.8 and 10.8.2). I noticed Windows asked me to format it since its FS was unreadable to it, but Debian could read its HPS (no write). I assume I could format it as FAT32 and use it as an 7 GB USB flash drive, but I'd like to use its screen too if possible.
Thank you in advance and happy new year.

    Charles,
I cannot speak on behalf of hooking this model of monitor up to a mini, however I do have a 19" Planar monitor at home hooked up to an old G4 tower via VGA, and the 19" Planar monitor that I have at work is hooked up via digital to my G4 15" PowerBook. I love both of these Planar 19" LCD monitors, and have absolutely no complaints. Planar's three year warranty is nice, and their tech support is top notch. I had an issue with the monitor at work, and I had a replacement on my desk in two days. Returning the bad monitor in the pre-paid box that the new one came in made things effortless. We have a few Planar's in the school district that I work in, and have no major issues with any of them.
Not too sure what the most recent pricing is on this model, but CDW was selling them for around $225-$230 delivered right to your door.
    Hope this helps.

  • What's a good HD camera to use with Premiere Pro CS4

I've used Premiere Pro CS4 for a while now and most of the time I don't have any problems, but recently, I've been buying HD cameras, shooting some AVCHD and then having a hell of a time getting them to play nice with Premiere Pro (or WMindows Media Player... or Quicktime... or anything but their crappy bundled software that won't let me edit or anything). My girlfriend says I should give up and buy a Mac and use FCP, but I like Premiere Pro. I'm about to take another camera back to Best Buy and I'm wondering if anyone has a suggestion for the easiest camera to use with Premiere Pro.
In case you're wondering, I've bought a Canon Vixia HF10 and a Samsung HMX-H100 so far and both had every issue I can think of from codec incompatibility to aspect ratios changing to A/V sync being lost to all-out-I-don't-know-WTF-just-happend-errors. I just want a camera that's going to give me a file I can drop straight into Premiere.

Unless you want a new computer, forget about AVCHD. It requires too much muscle to edit comfortably on anything but the fastest computer.

  • What's a Good 4X6 Printer to Use with Lightroom

I'm looking for a good 4X6 printer that will allow Lightroom to control the printing and match well with what appears on the monitor. Also, would you suggest a dye-sublimation printer?
    Thanks in advance, Steve

Here are a few alternatives. I can't speak to how good they are you will have to decide that for yourself.
    Mozilla Thunderbird
    Sparrow
    Outlook
    MailMate

  • What is a good averaging function to use?

Hello - I have a lot of static on my vi's graph and was told it is because I am on a laptop. So, I would just like to average the wave and get the number so I can graph it. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Well, again I come the the defence of NI. I have used the 6024 board with the 68LP block successfully. However, if you are in a noisy environment, then placing the 68LP in a metallic enclosure, grounding the board common to the enclosure, and running a separate ground braid from the metallic enclosure to a GOOD earth ground will often do wonders. The problem arises from the notebook/power supply combination being often floating off ground. A good indication of this is the fact that most laptop power supplies are switching supplies, and many do not have a 3-wire AC supply plug, hence no gound on either input or output of the supply. In fact, the switching AC power supply can become a source of spurious noise if you are trying to measure very
low level signals, such as the output of strain gauges or thermocouples.
I have had considerable experience removing noise/garbage from pc based DAQ systems, but I still do not consider myself an expert. There have been whole books written on the subject, so please do not take my comments as the be-all and end-all on the subject.
My general rule of thumb is to try and get a good earth ground (not the green wire in an AC line cord) as close to the DAQ board/computer combination as possible, and shield everything else that you can to this point. Also, try not to have more than one ground point in your measurement setup, as this is asking for common-mode ground voltage problems.
Good luck, this is not an easy subject to cover/solve.

  • Java Editor in Linux

    hi all,
can someone suggest a good Java Editor for Linux? I'm currently using the BlueFish Editor and i press the DOT nothing is come out, i hope that to get an editor where the members can come out after the dot is presses. By doing this, it will minimise a lot of typing error. I had try to install the JCreator on my system, but the setup cannot run on Linux.

u mean just copy the installation to the
    /usr/local??
Because i dun have the root permission and the
installation file has been downloaded at the desktopIf you don't have root permissions (and can't get them) then you probably will not be able to copy the JDK to /usr/local . You don't need the JDK to be anywhere in particular so if it is installed in your home directory then leave it there. Just make sure your 'path' is set correctly!
To check you have it configured right, use
    java -version
    and it should report
    java version "1.5.0_06"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_06-b05)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_06-b05, mixed mode, sharing)

  • Which java editor do you use?

Just curious as to what Java Editors/Ide's you people are using?
I tried Forte... but since I only have 2 years of programming JAVa under my belt, Forte and other's like it include alot of 'stuffing' that just makes things more confusing.
    I'm currently using JCreator LE....

JBuilder is good. Yes Forte CE can make things very confusing. There are some other
IDES like JDeveloper,Eclipse,IDEA etc. You may visit the site www.eclipse.org

  • Using Emacs as Java editor

    Hello
I suppose that most of you use Eclipse development platform. But I recently installed Emacs as Java editor.
I don't find one thing : How to activate the code completion ?
For example : I begin to type JF and by pressing TAB, it fills JFrame
    thanks
    bye

    Ctrl-Meta-/
(Alt instead of Meta on keyboards without Meta).
Ctrl-H a compl will list all commands to do with completion
Last time I saw any stats, emacs was still ahead of Eclipse in popularity, but it wasn't important enough to me to remember what the article was.
(normally I use ArmedBear J <http://armedbear.org>, then emacs if it's not available, and JBuilder about once a month for step-wise debugging)
