What is a good program to upgrade to after Snow Leopard?

What program do your recommend if I want to upgrade from Snow Leopard?

Your profiles says you have an iMac running 10.5.6 which is Leopard, not Snow Leopard - is that correct?
If you upgrade from your Leopard OS X, to more recent versions, your choices may be limited by your hardware. If you have a PowerPC system and not an Intel one you can't go past Leopard which is 10.5.x version of OS X. So what model of iMac do you have that's running 10.5.6?

  • What is the best way of upgrading OS from Snow Leopard to newer OS?

Is there a special process I should take when I get ready to update my iMac with a newer OS? I currently have an iMac (mid 2011) with Snow Leopard on it still and FCP 7. Do I just purchase and load Lion, then Mountain Lion and then Mavericks onto my machine and thats it? I do want to make a back up bootable disc image of Snow Leopard and save it onto a external drive as a safety net sort of thing should something happen, I could have some thing to resort back to if need be. I have been warned that depending on how new of a OS I go with, certain things with Final Cut Studio may not work. Like Motion 4 I'm told won't work in Mavericks I think and I heard iDVD will be wiped from my system too. I would stay with Snow Leopard but upgrading my OS will allow me to use various plugins I just got that require Mac OS X 10.7 or higher.
    thanks

Back up your data, check your applications for compatibility, and upgrade directly to the desired OS; you don't need any intermediate versions. Note that since Yosemite has come out, you won't be able to get Mavericks unless Apple says otherwise, and so far, they haven't.

What's a good program to use to make flyers and handouts with? I'm not a wiz with computers so nothing too sophisticated is needed. Thanks!

Pages would be fine but there are hundreds, I'd recommend using the Mac App Store.

  • What is a good program to install windows via a flashdrive...Have the iso

What is a good program to install windows via a flashdrive...Have the iso...

What are you trying to do?
You can install Windows in a Boot Camp partition and have a Dual Boot system where you run one operating system at a time. Either Windows or Mac OS X.
Or you can use one of the 3 available virtual machine software parograms to install Windows in a virtual machine on top of Mac OS X. Then you can run both Windows and OS X at the same time.
If you go with the Boot Camp option then you really need to burn that ISO file onto a DVD disc as Boot Camp likes to install from disc.
If you go with the virtual machine option then you can use that ISO file as it is to install Windows. You will just point the VM to the USB thumb drive to find the Windows OS to do the install from.

  • Will I be able to upgrade Directly from Snow Leopard ro Mountain Lion

    Hello All!
Will I be able to upgrade Directly from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion without going through Lion?
    Thanks in advance

You have to upgrade Mac OS X Snow Leopard to Mac OS X Lion, Then Mac OS X Mountain Lion.
If You have Snow Leopard, then upgrading to Mac OS X Lion is only $29.99 via the Mac App's Store, a one time fee for all your Macs. I recommend that you download it to all your devices first before you actually run the installation process. Once you've upgraded to Mac OS X Lion, then upgrade to Mac OS X Mountain Lion for a one time fee of $19.99.
Mac OS X Mountain Lion will be available as a single software upgrade via the Mac App Store beginning in July 2012. The BEST PART is you only have to purchase it one time to upgrade all of your Macs. So its only like $50 bucks total for ALL your Macs to get both Lion and Mt Lion. Approximately, the same price it was when Snow Leopard's family pack came out for only up to 5 Macs. Except this time you get 2 upgrades for about the same cost for unlimited Macs compared to only 1 upgrade for up to 5 macs like before.

    I can't wait.

  • PS 11.0.1 Crashing after Snow Leopard Upgrade

Not trying to add to the griping but just want it noted that another user (me) is having the same "constant crashing" issue after I upgraded to MAC Snow Leopard. Primarily it happens when working with JPEGs but I also had it seize while opening an Illustrator logo a moment ago.
    My stuff:
    PS 11.0.1 from CS4
MAC Snow Leopard installed over Leopard
New MacBook Pro with 4 MEG RAM
    No problems before
I suppose there is no solve for now but just so we can keep count.
    Thanks,
    Chris

    Stan-
I did a completely clean install ... reinstalling everything manually (took 2 days).. this did not fix the chronic crashing (about 1/3 of the time I would try saving an image).
I went BACK to Leopard 10.5.8 and all the problems disappeared (this was another 2 day venture). I'm very reluctant to reinstall snow leopard after that... I think the problem is actually with some plugin... other forums mention Growl as a culprit, but there is likely some photoshop plugin that is killing me and I don't know what it is... that is little solace as I am dependent on the plugins as an integral part of my workflow.
    Nico-
Going back to windows is not the answer. I am a very recent convert from windows and this is the type of issue that came up daily on windows (not just with photoshop).
What the lesson here should be is NEVER upgrade right away to a completely new operating system... I was sucked in by the assurances by both Apple and Adobe that PS CS4 was going to work fine... NOT... at least for me. There are many out there who have had no issues at all... I never seem to get into that wonderful group... probably because I tend to customize apps as much as possible to enhance my workflow and this is the price... wait for the dust to settle after a couple of months... someone with the necessary detective skills is having the same problems somewhere and working on a fix or reporting it more specifically than we are able and a fix will come.
but I feel you pain... just don't listen to the corporate propaganda until you hear "all clear" in forums like this one.
    cheers,
    tom

  • I have a Mac OS X v10.4.11 i need a upgrade i was wondering if i could upgrade to a snow leopard v10.6 or do i have to get leopard v10.5????

i have a Mac OS X v10.4.11 i need a upgrade i was wondering if i could upgrade to a snow leopard v10.6 or do i have to get leopard v10.5????

If you have an Intel Mac you can upgrade to Snow Leopard or Lion. The amount of RAM you need may limit what you can do. Leopard requires 512 MBs; Snow Leopard requires 1 GB; and Lion requires 2 GBs.
If you have a G4 or G5 Mac then you are limited to Leopard 10.5.8. In addition to the memory requirement your CPU must be at least 867 MHz.
    Leopard System requirements
You must have a Macintosh computer with:
an Intel processor or a PowerPC G4 (867 MHz or faster) or G5 processor
    a DVD drive >built-in FireWire
at least 512 MB of RAM (additional RAM is recommended for development purposes)
a built-in display or a display connected to an Apple-supplied video card supported by your computer
at least 9 GB of disk space available, or 12 GB of disk space if you install the developer tools
    Snow Leopard General requirements
Mac computer with an Intel processor
    1GB of memory
    5GB of available disk space
    DVD drive for installation
Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.
    Lion System Requirements
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.

  • I currently have Leopard, and there are no longer updates for it. So I must upgrade to either Snow Leopard or Mountain Lion. Without doing so I cannot update my itunes, and my ipod is no longer compatile with my mac. How can I buy the upgrade

I currently have Leopard, and there are no longer updates for it. So I must upgrade to either Snow Leopard or Mountain Lion. Without doing so I cannot update my itunes, and my ipod is no longer compatile with my mac. How can I buy the upgrade, since I do not have access to the mac store as that comes with Snow Leopard? I went to Best Buy and they said neither Snow Leopard or Mountain Lion can be bought there.

Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
Whilst Apple have withdrawn Snow Leopard from their stores, you can still get it from Apple by calling 1-800-MY-APPLE (if you are in the USA) and they will supply the SL DVD for $20 for a single user, or $30 for a family pack that covers up to 5 Macs.  You can also purchase the code to use to download Lion from the same number (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard), or you can purchase Mountain Lion from the App Store - if you can run that:
    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
If you are outside the US call your national Apple Helpline:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
If you're in the UK, use this number: 0871 508 4400
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard.
To use iCloud you have to upgrade all the way to Mountain Lion:

  • Isight no longer works after snow leopard upgrade

my isight no longer is available directly after snow leopard upgrade on my macbook black. Anyone else with the same problem? The isight does not show up in 'about this mac' under USB and I tried resetting SMC and PRAM.

    Hi,
In Leopard there was an App called iSight Update app that was in Hard Drive/System/Library/Core Services
This does not seem to be there in Snow Leopard.
An issue with some computers with the camera was that in System Preferences > Displays the Colours needed to be set to Millions.
Also check the Hard Drive/System/Library/Extensions folder and see that you have the Apple_iSight.kext (this is likely to handle the Internal iSights as well).
    One last thing.
Some Web sites can make use of the camera using Flash.
If that tab is still open the Browser may have use of the camera.
It sounds like you have done computer restarts and this will not be the case unless the browser is set to go back to that page.

  • How do I reinstall Lion if I get a new hard drive?  My mac came with Leopard and I cannot find my upgrade disk for Snow Leopard

My MacBook Pro originally came with Leopard.  I have the OS and Applications disks for Leopard but I cannot find my upgrade disk for Snow Leopard.  I would like to perform a clean install of Lion on the new hard drive and restore some data from my Time Machine backup.  I am not looking to restore the current image to my new hard drive.  I have not yet removed the exisiting hard drive nor have I wiped my data.

The only way to do that is to buy a New SL Retail DVD. Or you could buy the Lion Install USB thumb drive from Apple for $69.
You must have SL installed to then install Lion or have a thumb drive with the Lion installer.
You could also create a Lion USB Recovery thumb drive using Lion Disk Assistant. But you need to have Lion already installed and the Lion RecoveryHD Partition on your drive to make the Recovery thumb drive.

  • Wifi problems since 10.5.8 Update. Even after Snow Leopard Upgrade.

Wifi problems since 10.5.8 Update. Even after Snow Leopard Upgrade.
Is there any way to use a 10.5.7 wireless .kext files on Snow Leopard? And where can I find the files?

Ok, I have the fix!! After several frustrating days it finally just works.
    The process:
Upgrade your Macs to 10.6 (Snow Leopard)
Powercycle your modem AND time capsule / airport TWICE
Reset your time capsule with a pin or paperclip on the back
Follow the prompts to setup your time capsule / airport access
    -- On your Macs
    Go to System Preferences > Network > Airport > Advanced > TCP/IP
Click "Renew DHCP Lease" then click "Ok"
    Click Apply
    Turn off Airport
    Turn Airport on
    IT WORKS!!!
One of the magical people at tech support walked me through it earlier today. The whole process took about 1.5 hrs because Show Leopard takes about an hour to install on one machine.
    Hope this helps-
    Joshua
