What is a good router to connect to air express

I want to buy a cable modem router to replace one renting from comcast.  Going through a technology overhaul.
Just bought I-mac switching from XP.  Also have  I-phone 4s.  No wireless yet.  Going to purchase airport extreme and want smooth transition.  Read reviews on some routers that claimed airport extreme was not compatable.
Appreciate any advice.

I work for a very large MSO (cable company) and would recommend going with the Motorola 6121 from Best Buy.
This modem is extremely reliable and is a workhorse in the cable world. While all modems would work fine, I have noticed the 6121 continually outperforms every other modem (Arris, Ubee, SMC) that I work with daily, both on maintaining bandwidth in areas with poor signal and at recovery from outages. The other good news is being Docsis 3, it is somewhat future resistant, meaning the next 5-7 years of speed increases, you should be compatible. Also, it has a gigabit ethernet port, which matches the highest output of your Airport Express.

What is the best way to connect macbook air to present power point presentations

Since you posted in the Thunderbolt Display Community, I am guessing you are attempting to connect a MacBook Air to a Thunderbolt Display, but since you tagged projector, it makes me doubt my assumption. Can you provide some more details on what you are trying to connecto your MacBook Air to?

  • Recently moved and installed ATT DLS - I use their wireless router and connectted my airport express - Now I'm getting the Blue ? on some images

Recently moved and installed ATT DLS - I use their wireless router and connectted my airport express - Now I'm getting the Blue ? on some images - and at times - videos don't load.  I've increased / deleted Cache.  Suggestions? Misconfig?  Could it be possible my configuration from MacBook to router isn't correct?
    Thanks!

    JG,
    Thanks for the info.
Couple of questions. I found an apple support document on this topic that opened with this line:
"AirPort Express and all AirPort Extreme base stations can use WDS. Earlier AirPort base stations can't."
If the TC is an airport extreme base station, why can't this work to extend the network? I think I misunderstand. Here is the full article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2044?viewlocale=en_US
If I buy a new airport extreme, set it to wireless-n only as my main router, am I correct that my existing time capsule could be used as a bridge if plugged in upstairs?
Final question (and that should do it), could I take this old airport express, plug it in upstairs using the ethernet connection, and just create a separate wireless network to use with a different name?
I'd like to keep one network if possible but just kicking around short term solutions.
    Thanks again.

  • Best wireless router to connect ipad air and windows xp

I am trying to find the best router to use in an old house with plaster walls.  I am currently using a Windows XP desktop and have received a new i-pad air as a gift.  I'd like to use the tablet downstairs ; the desktop is upstairs.  Does anyone have a similar experience?

I don't believe that salespeople at Apples store said that Apple routers and other peripherals are 'at least 50% over-priced.' They aren't going to risk their jobs by telling someone that.  It's also untrue.
When you buy an Apple router, you don't just get a router.  You get a level of product polish and support that you don't get elsewhere.  Your get a router that has been tested and optimized to work with Apple hardware.  And, after dealing with Netgear and it's abandonware model of firmware (if your router is not current production, you almost certainly won't get a firmware upgrade no matter how bad the problems), and then DD-WRT firmware, which is a huge, steaming mass of unresolved bugs, I know very well what I'm talking about.
You just came to this thread to crap on Apple.  The person requested a recommendation for the best router and you didn't provide one.

  • What is a good amplifier match for an Airport Express?

I am setting up an AE to run a pair of speakers. I have to pick a small, relatively low cost amplifier to match the AE to the speakers. Any suggestions?

I ended up using the T-Amp. It works great with AEX.

  • What is a good barometer app for iPad Air 2

Am after a Barometer App for the iPad Air 2 that can record, save and export barometric pressure so that I can go back at review the history later. Most apps that I have found so far cannot save the barometric pressure for a specific period of time so that I can go back and review the numbers.

Consider buying an app. Pages by Apple is the best writing and editing app I've ever seen for iPad. It will let you do everything you said.

  • What is the best router

Anybody know what is a good router to get a good sync to the exchange with.

I would have to along with Peggypurecust on this one. Certainly, on my long and aluminium-rich noise-ridden line, Netgear DG834 series routers perform very well. They are also perfect if you need to run RouterStats to gather some data.
That said, the BT BusinessHub 2-Wire 2700HGV works more consistently for me when there is a lot of interference about. Over the last year or so, I've run the 2-Wire over the winter and a Netgear DG834PN in the summer. Others swear by Billion routers, or those from other manufacturers.
Your best bet might be to borrow a few from geeky friends and see which works best for you. By and large, routers that allow telnet can be the most versatile.
More detail here, if you need it

  • My 1st Generation time capsule won't connect to the internet thru a new motorola sb6121 - get continuously flashing yellow light. Using a router in between the modem and capsule yields good but slower connection to internet. Any thoughts?

My 1st Generation time capsule won't connect to the internet thru a new motorola sb6121 - get continuously flashing yellow light. Using a router in between the modem and capsule yields good but slower connection to internet. Any thoughts?

    Thanks for your response
Let me give the history - I started with an Apple Express being fed thru a D-Link  EBTR 2310 cable Router from an RCA DCM315 Modem (Pure). Comcast service all the way.
Got the 1st generation TC in 2008 and merely replaced the Airport Express with the TC. Worked ok
A year or two ago I did try removing the modem and feeding the TC directly from the modem. Resulted in the same condition I have now - Continuous flashing amber on the TC. So I put the router back in the chain.
Some time later, at the recommendation of a Comcast rep, I replaced the router with (a Belkin F5D 5231) to see if speed and dropout problems would be improved. I thought it helped some at the time but now I am not so sure.
Last week I decided to see if a new modem would help with download speeds. So I got another pure cable modem (Motorola SB 6121- high on the Comcast recommended list).
Got up and running easily with Comcast help and with the modem connected directly to a computer.
Next I put the TC in the link and again could not get past the TC continuing to flash amber. Although I did get connected to the internet with this configuration I lost connection two both of my printers - one connected by USB and the other wirelessly to the TC. Again everything works fine when I put the Belkin router back in the system.
    However with the router in there, the modem shows the downstream connection to be 10/100 ethernet speed. (Modem light changes color for indicating speeds.}
I have gone thru all of the combinations of powering down/ up, but all stays the same.
I can live with what I have but something still doesn’t seem right.
    Thanks again

  • What is the best router for mugs connectivity

i am looking for best networking institute in India, for optical networking please suggest, have heard about Networkers Zone (http://networkerszone.com/) , however needs suggestion and what is the best router for mugs connectivity.

For training on the Cisco Optical I would rrecommend Fastlane http://www.fastlane.si/ they would be able to fullfill your training requirements either in India or at another location even at the Cisco Factory in Monza, they can tailor courses to your specific requirements and also do switching and routing courses too, I have know one of the instructors for over 10 years they are very good.
As far as recommending the best router, that all depends on the application, not what you mean by mugs connectivity, I know what mugs is in English but not sure if thats what you mean or if it is an acronym for something else   in any case if you post in the router section of Net-Pro with your specific requirements I'm sure someone woule be able to help/advise accordingly.

  • What happened is that my internet connection was not good so i downloaded .ipsw file from a torrent but now i cannot get it to update my ipad because ios 5.0.1 is out i tried copying files to ipad updates in the itunes folder but no help

what happened is that my internet connection was not good so i downloaded .ipsw file from a torrent but now i cannot get it to update my ipad because ios 5.0.1 is out i tried copying files to ipad updates in the itunes folder but it still asked me to download a 700mb software update
    plz help

If you downloaded the correct version for your iPad model (and the different models have different ipsw files), then you should be able to navigate to it in iTunes by pressing and holding the shift key on Windows (command key on Mac) when clicking the Check For Updates button.

  • What's the best router ti use w/ my miniipad..having connectivity issues?

what's the best router to use w/ my mini-ipad...i'm having difficulty connecting to wifi. my old ipad connects fine

You need dual band adapters also for getting benefit of 5Ghz band(and N standard receivers to get benefit of N standard). So i think WRT350N will be next to best for your network, or you can get WRT600N and so that in future if you get adapters like WEC600N, it would work best with them.

  • Netgear MR814 v2 Router & No Connection

Up until today, I have had no problem connecting wirelessly to the internet over my "aged" Netgear MR814 v2 wireless router. I fiddled around trying to send a document from my Mac Book Pro to print wirelessly (I did succeed in the past), but was unsuccessful. But then I noticed that I no longer could surf the web on my Mac Book Pro.
Here is the weird part. The Mac recognizes the network, but says there is no internet connection. Also, when the Mac attempts to connect, my PC loses the ability to load content also(but there still is a connection). The only way to restore full internet and email functionality to the PC is to unplug and replug in the router. If I open the Mac Book with Airport extreme on again - I'll lose functionality at the P.C.!!!
Is there something I may have done? Apple tech support suggested that somehow the firmware in my router may have been upgraded ("Not") to allow only one connection at a time. Doubt it, because I'm able to get my handheld PDA to connect with no problem.
Would appreciate any advice or solutions that may be out there.
    Thanks.

I guess I would do a thorough review of the various settings of your MR814v2, like what IP address is it getting from your ISP, the DHCP server settings, etc.
The MR814 was a good router. I still have one. The latest firmware is v5.3

  • What cable do I need to connect my 27 inch iMac to my Cinema Display

What cable do I need to connect my 27 inch iMac to my Cinema Display to have two displays?

It depends on what type(s) of video input you have on your TV. If you've an open HDMI port on your TV, you can use a Thunderbolt (Mini DisplayPort) to HDMI adapter and it will carry the sound also. See -> here.
    Good luck,
