What is a good video converter for iMac? Premiere 6 will not capture from the Canon VIXIA HF G20.

Rather than convert, you'd be better off capturing with a more current version of the program -- one that supports AVCHD video. Otherwise, you're in for a lot of headache. A converter isn't going to solve your problems.
BTW, when you say Premiere 6, do you mean Premiere 6 -- which is over 10 years old? (There was no Premiere Elements 6.)
Trust me on this: Capture with a Mac version of Premiere Elements 11 or 12 and your video will be perfectly compatible with any Mac program.

Adobe Media Encoder for CS4 error Could not read from the source

I get an error when I try to export from Premiere CS4. It doesn't matter how I export. Seems like an easy fix, but I can't figure it out. Any help is appreciated:

When you attempt to encode media with Adobe Media Encoder CS4 on Windows, the following error message appears in the text file (AMEEncodingErrorLog.txt) that opens when you click the error icon: "Encoding Failed. Could not read from the source. Please check if it has moved or been deleted."
If it's that correct, you removed an earlier version of Adobe Premiere Pro or Adobe Creative Suite on the same computer.
Do one or both of the following solutions:
Solution 1: Create a shortcut to the Premiere Pro executable file, rename the shortcut to Premiere, and move the shortcut to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\dynamiclink.
Close all Adobe applications.
In Windows Explorer, navigate to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CS4. (If you installed Premiere Pro CS4 in a location other than the default of C:\Program Files\Adobe, then navigate to your custom installation location.)
Right-click on Adobe Premiere Pro.exe (which might appear without the .exe extension) and choose Create Shortcut.
Rename the newly created shortcut to just Premiere.
Important: The name of the shortcut must be exactly Premiere with no other characters.
Open a second Windows Explorer window, and navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\dynamiclink.
Move the Premiere shortcut that you created into the dynamiclink folder.
Solution 2: Remove and reinstall all Premiere Pro CS4 components or all Adobe Creative Suite 4 components.
Do one of the following:
Windows XP: Choose Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs.
Windows Vista: Choose Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features.
In the list of installed programs, select Adobe Premiere Pro CS4, Adobe Creative Suite 4 Production Premium, or Adobe Creative Suite 4 Master Collection.
Click Change/Remove (Windows XP) or Uninstall (Windows Vista).
Follow the on-screen instructions to remove all components of Premiere Pro CS4 (including Adobe Encore CS4 and Adobe OnLocation CS4) or to remove all components of your edition of Adobe Creative Suite 4.
Re-install your Adobe software.

Is there a good video available for beginners which will show what Photoshop can do?

I'm trying to find a good video which will give a general introduction to what Photoshop can do - not how to do it - for a group of beginners at our local photographic society.
Ideally I'm looking for something which lasts 15 - 20 minutes and will demonstrate how Photoshop can be used for correcting and manipulating images, plus a short section on how it can be used more creatively.
Is anyone aware of such a video which is preferably free to use (with obvious credits), and where it's available from?

There are multiuser/multiplatform apps that you can use to manage your photos that can view multiple source photos. I use Media Pro 1. However, you can't use iPhoto and MP on the same set of original/source image files.
I use MP as my primary DAM (digital asset management) application and iPhoto just for special projects like books, calendars, cards, etc.

MPEG Streamclip this is not a program that is for making ipod video's but there is a setting for it, you have lots of control over the settings if that is what you want. If you are not sure of settings it could be alittle overwhelming.

What is a good video camera for Imovie

I would like to video sports training directly into Imovie so that during the training session I can show the person his moves and what he is doing right and wrong.
I'm also a novice at Mac but have got I movie working with camera in monitor. I also read that fire wire should be used because there is problems with USB and Imovie.
Any help would be appricated.

If your priority is to make a video and show it immediately, you don't need iMovie. It takes time to import into iMovie. It takes time to make your edits. Then it takes time to share your movie so it can be viewed.
What you need is the equivalent of the Golf Pro who would make a VHS tape of your swing, then pull the tape out of the camera, put it in the player, and push play.
To do that with modern HD cameras, pick a good AVCHD camera that records to an SDHC card, or to a hard drive. Plug an HDMI cable between your camera and a high definition TV. You can select the clip you want and push play.
If you wanted to provide the client a copy to keep, you could import it into iMovie later.

Imac g4 will not boot from restore cd

hi there everyone today i tryed booting my imac g4 into the mac os 9 restore for my imac and it loads up to the box with the bar and you can move the mouse and then you see a bar that say's starting mac os 9 and then you wait abit and then the screen go's black with a mouse on the screen and you move it but no mac os has booted i do not know what this is i have reset the nvram and pram but still nothing plz help i want os 9 on my imac so i can play my games thank you

It may need a new PRAM battery. Especially if you are sure you have the discs that came with the computer. No other discs except newer Apple retail discs will work. Retail means not OEM, and not too new to run. 700 Mhz, and 800 Mhz with Superdrive iMac G4s are the only ones that will boot into Mac OS 9 using their prebundled OS 9 discs. The combo drive 800 Mhz model can only use OS 9 in Classic. Classic is only available up to Mac OS X 10.4.11, and under 1 GHz models can use up to 10.4.6 retail, and 10.4.11 combo PowerPC to maximize their operating system. 1 GHz and higher can use 10.5.6 retail and upgrade up to 10.5.8 combo, but lose Classic on the same partition if taken up to 10.5 and above.

I tried to restore my phone, but something occurred and it wouldn't restore and it the screen will not change from the resstore laoding page and i can't turn it off or on. What went wrong? and how can i fix it?

i was trying to restore my phone and it was connected and everything and i went to restore it and after a couple of minutes something popped up saying it couldt restore. i looked to my phone screen and it looked as if the phone was going to restore but the screen never changed and after an hour, it still hasn't changed. i tired holding down the lock button but that didnt do anything. then i tried hooking it back up to itunes but itunes doesn't connect to it and my computer doesn't detect a connected device. I have just downloaded a free app and there is no icon and it will not open from the list even tho it appears to have downloaded and the "open" button is available. Does not show up when I search for it. Plenty of memory . . .

I Have an iPad mini running iOS 7.1.2, I downloaded a new app and it's icon does not appear anywhere ( have ~ 180 apps so not at limit) and it won't open from the purchased apps list. It does not show up when I search for it so can't open t that way either. It doesn't require iOS 8. Can't delete and reinstall, cause not icon. Start up disc problems and my imac will not boot from the cd.

Hi All,
I have a start up disc that needs repaired, according to ONYX so then reading the apple support guide it seems I boot from my OSX CD that came with my iMac and use First Aid. However when I insert my OSX CD my imac reads it fine, as it does with any other cd, yet when I re-boot, holding down C, it won't boot. It restarts, but fails then to read the CD and just re-boots again, and again, and again.
How can I fix this?

When I put the disc in while machine is on it is read perfectly, appears immediatly and can be opened with no issues. It is only on re-boot ti then appears not to engage with the system.
I was advised to re-boot holding the "c" button from the MAC forum which I have done. I have also restarted using the restart button on the OSX disc loading screen.

What is a good video converter - from .mov to .avi

I've tried researching this topic and I've seen a lot of partially helpful info. I'll try to be specific. I'm using a MBP with OS X, and iMovie '09 (version 8.0.6). I'm trying to convert my edited .mov files to either .avi or .wmv files so i can embed them into a powerpoint presentation for PC. I am not trying to rip DVDs. These are interview I filmed myself. I need a decent (free or inexpensive) converter to do this. I have tried Handbrake and i only get .mp4 as an format option. I've also tried MPEG StreamClip but when it converts there is no audio. I don't mind paying a few bucks to have a good converter, but i want one that will do the job. Any help or opinions are greatly appreciated!

For .wmv, you can use Flip4Mac. http://www.telestream.net/flip4mac-wmv/overview.htm
A potentially free solution is to use regular iMovie h.264 files (.m4v) and be sure to install QuickTime for Windows on the Windows PC.
If you need to distribute the PPT to multiple PCs, I would go for Flip4Mac.
To the best of my knowledge, purchasing Flip4Mac gives you the components and codec you would need. Then you do the actual conversion in QuickTime Pro. MPEG Streacmlip might work, but I'm not certain. Worth trying since it is free.

1.8Ghz iMac G5 - Will not boot from HD or other startup volume

Okay, thought I would post here regardless that this seems to be a "take it in for service" issue...
The iMac was running painfully slow last night, so I walked away and did not manually sleep it. This morning, it seemed to be asleep except that the light was not pulsing, but was full-on bright. Attempts to wake it were fruitless, so I attempted to force it down via the power switch and restart. Upon rebooting (which took a few minutes longer than usual), it got to the apple and pinwheel/gear screen, then went black except for the arrow cursor in the upper left corner, which changed after a time to the "beachball" (not spinning).
I then tried resetting the PRAM and SMU, no change.
I tried rebooting in safe mode and got to the login screen, but the keyboard and mouse are not being recognized.
I then tried rebooting in single-user mode to run fsck, but once at the prompt, the keyboard is again not being recognized.
Attempts to startup from a system disk yielded the same thing—black screen, arrow cursor at upper left, etc.
All devices except the keyboard and mouse have been unplugged throughout all attempts to restart.
Since I am in the market (possibly now by necessity) for a new iMac, my attention turned to getting my files off the drive... Luckily, it was recognized by my old Powerbook in target mode (yay).
Any ideas, suggestions?

Update: Just ran the Hardware Test again, this time the Extended Test, and it reported "2GMC/3/16: built-in." Logic board failure, anyone?
It seems like I've had more than my fair share of logic board issues with this machine... It was replaced while under the original warranty and again last December on Apple's dime when I raised a bit of **** about it, and now it seems to have failed again. The last replacement only had a 90-day warranty, so I guess I'm hosed this time.

If you meet these requirements you can upgrade directly to Mavericks: OS X Mavericks: System Requirements. However, before upgrading I would check the compatability of your 3rd party application at RoaringApps - Application compatibility and feature support for OS X and iOS.
If you're having problems with the App Store you might try this:
1 - enable the Debug menu in App Store:
open the Terminal application.
copy the command below and paste into the Terminal window:
defaults write com.apple.appstore ShowDebugMenu -bool true
followed by Enter.
launch App Store, login.
2 - select the Debug ➙ Reset Application option:
3 - try again.
