Hi,
What is a grid agent? What does it do and is it needed? Does it work with Enterprise Manager? Any documentations on this???

Pretty simple really - if you want to do something in the database, you need to 'run it' manually. Or turn it over to an 'agent' to run on your behalf.
In Enterprise Manager's Grid Control environment, we use an agent to do all sorts of stuff (like collect status of database or run jobs) without needing to be logged on to the machine on which we expect the work to be done.

How to install Oracle Grid Agent 11g into windows hosts ?

Hi there, I was not able to deploy management agents into windows hosts machines !
I followed steps below and I am getting these errors :
On windows 2003 server, I have downloaded grid agent here :
D:\grid\Windows_X64_Grid_Control_agent_download_11_1_0_1_0\windows_x64\agent
I have setup.exe file ! When I double click it, I got this message :
Only silent installation is supported search help.
Well, I did a lot of times setup.exe -silent -responseFile <path>additional_response.rsp and the setup process tells me that I am not following the security procedures.
I am newbie on Grid!
I don´t want deploy agent using deployment wizard due to security resctrictions, they do not allow openssh servers on windows servers.
Have you guys succeeded with this installation ? I mean, install fresh agent on single target windows server machine!
I would appreciate any help.

Edson,
what I would do is go for the cloning option.
On the OMS Server an Agent has been installed as part of the OMS installation.
Stop this Agent
AGENT_HOME/bin/emctl stop agent
Create a zip file from the agent11g folder
Copy it to a server where you want to install the Agent
unzip the folder in the location where you want to install
Restart the Agent you had stopped on your OMS server
AGENT_HOME/bin/emctl start agent
On the destination server
Then from the AGENT_HOME/oui/bin
runInstaller -clone -forceClone ORACLE_HOME=<full path of Agent Folder> ORACLE_HOME_NAME=OracleHomeAgent11g -noconfig -silent b_chainedInstall=false oracle.sysman.top.agent:s_installType=AGENT
Then from AGENT_HOME/bin/agentca -f
AGENT_HOME/root.sh (Under Unix this needs to be run as user root, not sure if this procedure is the same under Windows)
This is based on the procedure described in MOS note : How to Clone a Management Agent And Known Issues [ID 579156.1] which referes to a 10.2.0 Agent, but I have been able to use this procedure under Windows with a 11.1 Agent as well.

10g grid agent installation and configuration on oracle RAC

Hi All,
I have one two node RAC setup on HP-UX itanium platform and I want to install oracle 10g grid agent on both the RAC nodes to monitor the RAC instances and databases and OMS repository server is ready and running. Only I have installed agents on both the nodes, but tns entry and hosts files on OMS server and both the nodes modified.
But, nodes are not getting automatically discovered by OMS server. And what is the command to configure the grid agent on RAC instances.
I have to install grid agent on both the nodes individually or it can be installed on single node and can be integrated with other node.
Please help me out in this regard.......

Similar problem and installation does not detect the rac nodes and installation is done locally which does not help the situation..By the way we all consult documentation and the whole point of having a forum is so we have a potential fix or work around and not link from here to documentation. Just to mention :)

Installing Oracle Grid Agent on R12 E-Business suite

All,
I have 10.2.0.3 OEM Grid Server installed and configured. This has been monitoring few of my standalone and dataguard production databases in which Oracle grid agents are installed and configured.
I have recently deployed R12 E-business suite with two application nodes and one database in a F5 load balancer environment. I am wanting to install and configure Oracle Grid agent on R12 EBS Application and Database nodes to monitor my R12 EBS by making use of existing Oracle Grid server.
Has anyone installed and configured Oracle grid agent on R12 Application and database nodes?
Any informantion/pointers that anyone can provide on the above would be greatly appreciated.

Do you know the ports that need to be opened between Application Tier and Grid control server?Not sure what grid control version you are installing. Oem db console vs grid agent overhead

Which of following has less cpu , i/o and memory impact on the db server?
1. Enabling OEM db console
2. Installing grid agent ( note grid repository and oms are installed on management server and not the db server).
I don’t want to put much load on the db server and a little bit concerned about extra cpu load which OEM may introduce.

Problem with Grid agent

Hi,
I installed Grid control on Instance A and grid agent at Instance B where im able to monitor Instance B from Grid control ,but when i tried to install another grid agent an say Instance C during installtion when i gave the INstance C details its not connecting with INstance C when i tried to ping from Instance A(where i installed Grid control) im able to ping from A--->B
Please help me in to solve this issue

The common features of report are column alignment, sorting, filtering, subtotals, totals etc. To implement these, a lot of coding and logic is to be put. To avoid that we can use a concept called ABAP List Viewer (ALV).
This helps us to implement all the features mentioned very effectively.
Using ALV, We can have three types of reports:
1. Simple Report
2. Block Report
3. Hierarchical Sequential Report
There are some function modules which will enable to produce the above reports without much effort.
All the definitions of internal tables, structures and constants are declared in a type-pool called SLIS.
1. SIMPLE REPORT.
The important function modules are
a. Reuse_alv_list_display
b. Reuse_alv_fieldcatalog_merge
c. Reuse_alv_events_get
d. Reuse_alv_commentary_write
e. Reuse_alv_grid_display
A. REUSE_ALV_LIST_DISPLAY : This is the function module which prints the data.
The important parameters are :
I. Export :
i. I_callback_program : report id
ii. I_callback_pf_status_set : routine where a user can set his own pf status or change the functionality of the existing pf status
iii. I_callback_user_command : routine where the function codes are handled
iv. I_structure name : name of the dictionary table
v. Is_layout : structure to set the layout of the report
vi. It_fieldcat : internal table with the list of all fields and their attributes which are to be printed (this table can be populated automatically by the function module REUSE_ALV_FIELDCATALOG_MERGE
vii. It_events : internal table with a list of all possible events of ALV and their corresponding form names.
II. Tables :
i. t_outtab : internal table with the data to be output
B. REUSE_ALV_FIELDCATALOG_MERGE : This function module is used to populate a fieldcatalog which is essential to display the data in ALV. If the output data is from a single dictionary table and all the columns are selected, then we need not exclusively create the field catalog. Its enough to mention the table name as a parameter(I_structure name) in the REUSE_ALV_LIST_DISPLAY. But in other cases we need to create it.
The Important Parameters are :
I. Export :
i. I_program_name : report id
ii. I_internal_tabname : the internal output table
iii. I_inclname : include or the report name where all the dynamic forms are handled.
II Changing
ct_fieldcat : an internal table with the type SLIS_T_FIELDCAT_ALV which is
declared in the type pool SLIS.
C. REUSE_ALV_EVENTS_GET : Returns table of possible events for a list type
Parameters :
I. Import :
Et_Events : The event table is returned with all possible CALLBACK events
for the specified list type (column 'NAME'). For events to be processed by Callback, their 'FORM' field must be filled. If the field is initialized, the event is ignored. The entry can be read from the event table, the field 'FORM' filled and the entry modified using constants from the type pool SALV.
II. Export :
I_List_type :
0 = simple list REUSE_ALV_LIST_DISPLAY
1 = hierarchcal-sequential list REUSE_ALV_HIERSEQ_LIST_DISPLAY
2 = simple block list REUSE_ALV_BLOCK_LIST_APPEND
3 = hierarchical-sequential block list
REUSE_ALV_BLOCK_LIST_HS_APPEND
D. REUSE_ALV_COMMENTARY_WRITE : This is used in the Top-of-page event to print the headings and other comments for the list.
Parameters :
I. it_list_commentary : internal table with the headings of the type slis_t_listheader.
This internal table has three fields :
Typ : H header, S selection , A - action
Key : only when typ is S.
Info : the text to be printed
E. REUSE_ALV_GRID_DISPLAY : A new function in 4.6 version, to display the results in grid rather than as a preview.
Parameters : same as reuse_alv_list_display
This is an example for simple list.
2. BLOCK REPORT
This is used to have multiple lists continuously.
The important functions used in this report are:
A. REUSE_ALV_BLOCK_LIST_INIT
B. REUSE_ALV_BLOCK_LIST_APPEND
C. REUSE_ALV_BLOCK_LIST_HS_APPEND
D. REUSE_ALV_BLOCK_LIST_DISPLAY
A. REUSE_ALV_BLOCK_LIST_INIT
Parameters:
I. I_CALLBACK_PROGRAM
II. I_CALLBACK_PF_STATUS_SET
III. I_CALLBACK_USER_COMMAND
This function module is used to set the default gui status etc.
B. REUSE_ALV_BLOCK_LIST_APPEND

This function module adds the data to the block.
Repeat this function for all the different blocks to be displayed one after the other.
C. REUSE_ALV_BLOCK_LIST_HS_APPEND
This function module is used for hierarchical sequential blocks.
D. REUSE_ALV_BLOCK_LIST_DISPLAY
Parameters : All the parameters are optional.
This function module display the list with data appended by the above function.
Here the functions REUSE_ALV_FIELDCATALOG_MERGE, REUSE_ALV_EVENTS_GET, REUSE_ALV_COMMENTARY_WRITE can be used.
3. Hierarchical reports :
Hierarchical sequential list output.
The function module is
A. REUSE_ALV_HIERSEQ_LIST_DISPLAY
Parameters:

1->go to Screen Painter, choose the column which you need to make as drop down.
2->Click F2 to go tothe properties screen.
3->Select Listbox or Listbox with Key for the DROPDOWN field (3rd field in properties tab)
4->give value for the FCODE field also, to track the actions in SY_UCOMM when the user selects the value.
5->in the ABAP code, you need to include the logic to populate values for this drop down. You can use the function module VRM_SET_VALUES to populate the listbox in each line of the table control. The fucntion module has to be called in the PBO module, which is defined inside the loop...endloop statement in the flow logic.
6->for changing the values based on user selection, you can include the code in the PAI module, checking SY_UCOMM or OK_CODE.

Can I install Oracle Grid Agent 10.2.0.5.0 on IBM Itaniam 64bit machine with Linux 4.7 Cent OS

You can, and you can get it working, but remember that CentOS is not certified by Oracle, so you might run into trouble, but it will work ... on the other hand, you can run Oracle products on many system that are not certified, but the result might not be as good as if you would have a Oracle certified system, like free Oracle linux ...

server details and port details are definetely correct, i put ABC in here due to name of box

Got it resolved. For those in the future that may bump into this make sure , even if your agent box has DNS ping to OMS server that it is still added to the /etc/hosts file . then it works

1) Does Oracle have some way to automatically clean up the OEM Agent directories? Or do I have to right a script?
2) Are these the files that have to be periodically purged:

find /oracle/agent10g -name "*.err" -type f
find /oracle/agent10g -name "*.out" -type f
Are ther other files?

There are multiple "directories" that may be accumulating log and trc files - check
agent10g/sysman/log
db10g/admin/emrep/bdump
db10g/network/log
db10g/rdbms/log
oms10g/sysman/log
oms10g/opmn/logs
oms10g/j2ee/OC4J_EM/log
oms10g/Apache/Apache/logs
oms10g/webcache/logs/archive
oms10g/netgwork/log

OEM GRID AGENT

hi,
I have already installed OEM 10g Grid Control OMS on my linux sever which also has EBS R12.1.
I want to manage our EBS 11i which resides on another server
I downloaded the Linux_Grid_Control_agent_download_10_2_0_2_0.zip file from OTN,
and put it to the target server and unzip it.
Then I runInstaller and choose add management server.
I followed this link for the agent install>

But I got stuck up on the Screen Page for entry of
Management Service Host Name > server01.abc.com
Management Service Port > 4889I got error : The connection can not be established to Oracle Configuration Manager
Reason > Error connecting to server peer not authenticated
But in the server linux fire fox browser, I can access it using > http://server01.abc.com:4889/em
I can not understand why this simple thing to follow just stuck with this
Oracle Configuration Manager > There is a "Test Connection" button there.
And it will not pass over it. How do I test connection from the OS command prompt? What command does this
screen use to validate connection to the OMS server?
Did I miss someting ? a pre-requisite perhaps that is needed by this connection?
What do you mean by "peer authentication"?

EM Grid Agent 10.2.0.4 - Release date for RH 4 upd 5 x86-64

Is there 10.2.0.4 agent release for RH 4 update5 x86-64. (64 bits RH Linux). What is the url? I can not find it. Thanks in advance.

The Grid Control Agent Downloads do not differ between Linux distribution. You can use the Agent 10.2.0.4 for Linux x86 or Linux x86_64 with rhel4u5.
