What is a GSM-compatible SIM card and where do I get one?

I live inMexico and plan to buy an unlocked iPhone5s in the States this summer.  What is a GSM-compatible SIM card and where do I get one?

I believe all cell phone carriers in Mexico are GSM carriers.
Will this be your first cell phone?
If not and your carrier in Mexico provides a nano-SIM card which is required for the iPhone 5S, you ask your carrier for the SIM card.
If a problem develops with the iPhone that requires an exchange under warranty, you will need to return to the U.S. to receive an exchange.

I have a 1st Generation iPad 32GB and I keep getting the "No SIM Card installed" message.  Where to I get one and how do I install it?

SIM cards come from Apple or from the cell phone companies. They allow your device to use the cell network to access the Internet. If you have not used your iPad in this way before and you would now like to, you will need to take it to an Apple store or your cell phone provider and sign up for a data plan.

  • I restored my iphone and now it says it needs a sim card and i do not have one

I restore my iphone 4 and i do not have the sim card, after i restored it, it made everything restart like when you first get the phone like when your setting it up and it keeps asking for my sim card but i dont have it, how can i skip this?

If it's an unlocked phone, any SIM will do. It doesn't even have to be tied to an active line of service. It just has to be a valid SIM.  If it's carrier locked, it must be from the correct carrier.

  • What are the coupons for?? and where can I get cheaper .Mac membership

What are those coupons that came with the mechine for??
    Not for .Mac??
where can I get cheaper ones.(I live in Canada)
    Thanks

They are used for the rare promotion or upgrade offers.
The only time I've ever seen a use for them is when you purchase a computer with a previous version of the Mac OS when a newer version is already available.
You can submit one of the coupons with the upgrade form to obtain the new version at a reduced price.
That's about the only benefit I've ever seen for them.
Apple calls this program something like "Mac OS Up To Date" (something along those lines).
To illustrate, say you purchased an iMac right after OS 10.4 came out, and discovered that the iMac was packaged-up prior to OS 10.4 being available (like it sat on a shelf for a while). So, you've got OS 10.3 installed on it.
Now, you purchased a new computer, obviously you want the latest OS to go with it.
So, because you purchased a new machine with an old OS, you can use the OS Up To Date program to order upgrade disks to OS 10.4 for only $20 or $30 instead of the $129 everyone else pays.
It's not really a fair deal for a person who just purchased a new computer. But, it's better than getting stuck with paying $129.
So, you would fill out the upgrade form, and submit your coupon with it.
The same thing applies to if you purchased the system after the new version of iLife was available. You might be able to get the new version of iLife at a reduced price.
Apple usually runs this program for about 90 days after a new software version is available.
They used to work it the other way:
When I purchased my PowerMac G3 266-DT, they had a program that allowed you to upgrade to the new version of the Mac OS for $19 or $29 (can't remember for sure the $ amount) if it was released within 90 days of you purchasing your computer.
I took advantage of that, and got a reduced-price upgrade to OS 8.5 from OS 8.1.
That method makes more sense to me than the current method.
It makes sense to get a reduced price on updates that arrive up to 90-days from your date of purchase.
But, it is not such a good deal to have to pay for updates that were already available at the time of purchase and should have been included with your new computer. After-all, it's not your fault that the computer sat on the shelf too long.
But, that's how it works now. The coupons basically get you a discount on software updates that were shipping on new systems when you purchased your new computer that had been boxed-up before the new software was released.
As for cheaper .Mac prices, the only options I know of are:
    1) You get a $30 discount on it when you purchase a new Mac. So, when you setup the Mac, you are usually presented with an option to sign-up for .Mac with a discount.
    2) Amazon sometimes runs a special on it.
    3) You might be able to get a .Mac retail box from someone who purchased it and then changed their mind. But, don't buy a box that has been registered already.
Be very careful buying products like .Mac second-hand. There is no way to know that they have not already used the registration code until after you receive it and try to register it yourself.
Hope this helps to answer your question.

  • Whats a libx11drv.so and where do I get one?

Hello everyone who knows more about Arch/Linux!
I'm trying to play Eve... some space-based MMORPG that uses Cedega. I'm running the x86_64 version of Arch, with an Nvidia 7300GT and the latest version of the Nvidia 177.80 driver installed using NVIDIA's installer. But cedega complains about some libx11drv.so file that according to slocate doesnt exist anywhere on my system. So I was wondering what it is and where to get it. Usually google will just tell me, but it didnt want to agree with me today. Thanks for your help!

I've found the file you require in a RPM:
    http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat/6/idpl/2399516
...part of the wine-devel package. You could search thru' AUR to see if the same / similar
    package is there.

  • What version of Windows do I buy and where do I get it from?

I need to run the windows verion of Word so I can have PDF links that work and formatting that doesn't explode into a sh*tcloud when it hits a windows machine.
After talking with a Genius I've decided to try the bootcamp option with Office 365; now I need to buy Windows from somewhere. I want to walk into a shop and buy a DVD, because I don't want to download via my tethered phone (I am working away from my office for a few weeks). All I can find via google is a bunch of 'upgrade' DVDs in places like JB etc... that say I need Win7.
Where do I get a DVD for a fresh install via bootcamp, in a shop, in Sydney, today?
    Cheers!

OK, solved by a phone call to Apple support and a nervous purchase of software.
The very helpful Apple staff on the helpline assured me that all I needed was the "Full Version" of Windows 8.1 that is available from tons of resellers (JB, Hardly Normal, Bing Lee, Officeworks etc...). I took a chance and bought a copy as shown:
After starting Boot Camp Assistant from OSX I just followed the instructions and viola! After a couple of hours (yep, it takes that long) I have this:
Ugly, horrible, rubbish bit of software on my lovely MBP.... but now my Word docs can be made into PFDs and still work, and the format won't go to custard when I share them to non-Mac folks.
Thanks to those who replied and offered advice. Hopefully this post will be helpful to someone else like me, who finds it hard to get a straight answer via google!
    Cheers,
    Adam

  • HT1349 I have a Power PC G5 mac. It's Dual 1.8 GHz and has 1 GB DDR SD Ram. This mac has no wireless Airport Card. Where do I get one to install in the computer so that it is able to pick up wifi signal and how much is the cost?

I have an older Power PC G5 desktop mac. It has 1GB DDR and SD Ram and Dual 1.8 GHz. The problem is there is no wifi signal. I think I need an airport card to insert in order for this model to pick up wifi. How do I know which airport card to use?

Your Power Mac G5 had an option to have an 802.11b/g AirPort Extreme Card. You basically have two choices: 1) Search the Internet for vendors that still provide this card, or 2) Get a wireless USB adapter that supports both 802.11b/g, but also the newer 802.11n standard. An example of this USB adapter can be found here.

  • HT201274 attempted to download new ios 6 software. wiped out sim card and computer doesn't recognize iphone now. blinking apple icon is only thing I get

Need help with iphone 4. tried to download new software and it zorked sim card and phone. Only get a blinking apple icon. Computer doesn't recognize iphone so I can't restore

    Hello henry lfrommiami,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
To troubleshoot this issue where your iPhone gives you the message "No SIM Card installed" please follow the steps below.
Update your iPhone to the latest version of iOS.
Turn airplane mode on and then off again.
    Restart your iPhone.
Check for a carrier settings update. Go to Settings > General > About. Install any available update.
Remove the SIM card and make sure that it's a valid SIM that your carrier provided. Also make sure that it's not damaged, worn, or modified. Then reinsert it.
A SIM tray that comes with one iPhone model won't necessarily work with a different iPhone model. When you insert the correct SIM tray, the SIM tray should be flush with the device.
If you have another SIM card, insert it. You can use a SIM card from any phone with the same format as your iPhone SIM card. If your iPhone works with that SIM card, contact the carrier that issued your original SIM card.
    Restore the iPhone.
If you still see the issue, contact Apple support.
If you see 'No SIM' alert on iPhone
    Cheers,
    Alex H.

You did not ruin the phone, you will need a sim card to activate the phone and then connect the phone to itunes and do a restore from back up.

carriers pay most of the phones price for the customer
but this come at the cost of the phone only being able to work
with the carrier this is called a sim lock
the only people who can remove a sim lock is the carrier which

  • What is a SiM card and do I need one in order to send email from my iPad?

What is a SIM card and do I need one in order to be able to send email from my iPad?

For further detail, a SIM card is a very small, thin, printed circuit card which you insert into a tiny drawer in your mobile device. It is your mobile/cellular account, with your personal details on it. So you can move it from one device to another. Before smartphones (like the iPhone), SIM cards also contained your Contact list. Since smartphones contain so much information now, the SIM card just identifies you to the cellular/mobile network. It means you can carry your phone number with you from one phone to another.
You can get a SIM card for iPad from any Apple Store or phone shop. Note that the newer iPhones and the iPads use what's called a "micro-SIM", which is smaller than a regular SIM card, so it takes up less room inside the phone, and they can stick more hardware in there for better performance. Make sure you ask for a "micro-SIM for iPad".
As Rudegar says, you don't need a SIM in your iPad if you always have WiFi access. But if you need to send email or messages outside a WiFi network, then you need a SIM, so you can access the cellular/mobile phone tower network.
You can get prepaid SIM cards which give you so much data for a certain period of time. You need to decide how much data you need, and how often you want to "recharge" it. The salespeople should be able to help you work that out.
