What is a login "key chain"?

I have a login that kept saying about "key chain" everytime she logs in to the MacBook Air. What the heck is it? How do I go about handling it?

What does the error message display in regards to key chain? Keychain is a password management application built into the Mac OS. You can find that application under Applicaitons-->Utilities-->Keychain Access. If she has any special applications that require a login, keychain may store it and require a password for it. You can also check to see what applications are loading when she logs in. Go to System Preferences-->Users & Groups. Click on Login Items. Uncheck items she doesn't need to load automatically when she logs in.

Rephrase your question. Do you mean you keep getting login key chain errors?

I cannot get rid of the "login key chain" request!  I do not have an icon in utilities or in applications.  Are there any suggestions??

Hello, are you aying you have no Keychain Access in Utilities?
Open Keychain Access in Utilities, use Keychain First Aid under the Keychain Menu item, then either check the Password under that item, change it, or delete it and start over.

    Hi Ali Tbbn,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
The login keychain is where passwords on your Mac are saved by default using an application called Keychain Access.

After powering the iPhone off and on, the light goes out but turns back on randomly or immediately after powering the iPhone on?
Since nothing else you have tried has resolved it, try restoring the iPhone with iTunes from the iPhone's backup first.
If no change after that, try restoring as a new iPhone or not from the backup.
If no change after that, the iPhone has a hardware problem.
Call AppleCare or make an appointment at an Apple Store if there is one nearby.

  • What is "appleidauthagent"? It keeps asking for access to a key chain

When I power up my iMac I get a dialogue box stating that appleidauthagent wants access to a key chain that I do not even have on the computer anymore. I usually hit "Cancel" or waith a minute or so and the dialogue goes away. I am not sure if this causes any problems, but at the very least it is very annoying.
Is there a way to keep this from happening?
    Thanks!

I tried your fix but still didnt stop the popup - however I had to remove the following files as well
    ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.DotMacSync*.plist.lockfile
    ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.idisk*.plist
    ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.idisk*.plist.lockfile
    ~/Library/Preferences/MobileMeAccounts.plist
    ~/Library/Preferences/MobileMeAccounts.plist.lockfile
    ~/Library/Prefernces/ByHost/com.apple.coreservices.appleidauthenticationinfo*.plist
    ~/Library/Prefernces/ByHost/com.apple.coreservices.appleidauthenticationinfo*.plist.lockfile
    and then rebooted computer
I believe it is to do with remnant files from mobileme.com, mac.com and iDisk
    problem now solved

  • Key chain dissapeared - can not recreate - also safari gone wrong

i was working on my email and had safari opened. I had an error message trying to read an email account and it said your keychain can not be found, reverst to default? I said no and since I have no key chain and can't recreate one. error message is error occured while creating key chain.
I then tried to access this forum though safari and it worked well until the login screen where is said:
    Safari can’t open the page.
Safari can’t open the page “https://www.apple.com/support/mod_ssl:error:HTTP-request”. The error was: “lost network connection” (NSURLErrorDomain:-1005) Please choose Report Bug to Apple from the Safari menu, note the error number, and describe what you did before you saw this message.
i have a backup of my keychain on idisk but when i try to access it it says there is no keychain to write the password to. if I cancel, nothing happens, if i say reset, i go into a loop with the same error asking for a passw but saying it can't be saved
i guess there is some corruption somewhere but have no idea what I can recreate or delete
any idea anyone??? i have a backup at home as well but i am currently traveling so also don:t have my original set up disk
i will be backhome in 6 hours, will check email and this forum then, hopefully with a solution...
    thanks

The only way that I know of to fix this problem, is to reinstall the system software. You can choose and option that will import you current settings after the system is installed and all you files will be put in a folder labled "Previous System." I would still back up any important files you may have because I don't know how reliable it is or to what extent it works.

  • Safari key chain passport in my macbook Air how to delete it?

Now, safari ask me for that passport several times during the day.I want to get ride of this password. What should I do?
    Thanks!

To fix your Keychain problems, go to your Utilities folder and open Keychain Access.
Read: Mac OS X: Keychain Access asks for keychain "login" after changing login password. Follow the steps at the end describing how to delete the Keychain that is no longer useful to you.

  • Hi kids, my first day using apple, anyway, is a Power Book 4.1 , bought from someone else, and i dont have the password for the key chain, and no chances of getting it, the screen, for the password keeps on coming up, any ideas?

my  first day using apple, i love it, is a power 4.1, older, but is ok to learn it, however, i bought it from someone , and i was not
given the password for key chain, so, this screen keeps on coming up, and i dont know the password, so i keep on canceling out
of it, ..... any ideas on how to fix this problem, is the key chain, that you can access through utilities, but i dont have the old password, that is my first
    problem
my second problem is that the key board, closer to the screen, is coming out, as it needs to be put in place, you would imagine you can
put it back in place, but, not sure i should mess with it, any input would be greatly appreciated it
    thank you
    lisa

Hi, Lisa. Now I see what you're desperate about.
Does it allow you to go ahead and use the iBook after you cancel the Keychain login? If so, it's not a big deal.
Are you able to go to System Preferences > Accounts and create a new account for yourself? That should eliminate Keychain password problems.
Check out these instructions on replacing the keyboard:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=111917
Maybe they will help you get it seated better. It's considered a customer-installable part, so it should be easy enough for you to handle without worrying about goofing anything up.
What CDs (if any) came with the iBook?
Which version of the operating system is it running?
How big is the hard drive and how much space remains available on it? If it's the original hard drive, it's getting very old and could fail at any time. The identifier "PowerBook 4,1" tells me that the iBook is ten years old, and is either a 500 or 600 MHz PowerPC G3 (Dual USB) iBook. As such, you can't expect a whole lot from it.
The optical drive on this iBook could be a CD-ROM (reads CDs only), CD-RW (reads and writes CDs; no DVD capability), DVD (reads CDs and DVDs), or Combo (reads and writes CDs; reads DVDs) drive.
    Good luck with it.

  • Key Chain Restore

Hello, I have a Time Machine backup of my complete HD. After I had to install a new OS, clean install I need to try and get my passwords info etc. from Key Chain back to my new HD. What files do I need to look for on my Firewire TM backup. Cheers DH

your keychain is located in /users/username/library/keychains/login.keychain. copy this file to the corresponding location in your home directory. you'll need your old user password to unlock it.

  • Key Chain basics

In preferences I have all checked in the repair tab. Is this the best option ?
Also when I go to my airport extreme disc it asks for my user account password. And when I sign in, the locker in the key chain login becomes open.
Since then, it will not ask me again.
Leaving always the keychain login open it's the best way ? Any adjustment can be made in the preferences ?

This is normal. If you wish, you can open the keychain and remove it or even change it.

You do not have to keep the keychain app running, if that's what you mean.
Once you set the preferences, close it and it will work fine.
You only need to open it for repair or to change things. It automatically stores every password.
If you open the keychain app you can access the Help and there you will find much information about using it.
