What is a Self ID packet

My computer will not boot up.  My son suggested that I boot up holding down the Command and S Key until text stops scrolling on the black screen.  When command line prompt appears type in fsck -fy and hit Return.  After several minutes I get  error message.  "Bad Self ID packet".  I ran the same check 3 different times and I get the same error message.
What is a Bad Self ID packet and what can I do to fix it.  Thx   melmfrommn.

There are a few options to try.
Option 1
Restart the computer while holding down the Option key.  This will tell the computer to look for bootable drives.  If it finds your normal startup disk, select let, then click the right pointing arrow to boot up the computer.  Now open up System Preferences> System> and select your normal Startup OS as the default startup disk.
Option 2
Reset your PRAM.  Press and hold down the Command Option P R keys while starting your computer.  You will hear the startup chime.  continue holding down those keys until you hear the startup chime a second time.  Release the keys.  If the computer restarts, you will need to reset your Date and Time.  It might be time to replace your PRAM battery.  The G5 iMacs require a 3 volt CR2032 lithium watch/camera battery like below:
http://eshop.macsales.com/item/NewerTech/CR2032/
You can find these batteries at Walmart, Kmart, Target, most local drugstore chains, for between $3-$5, or at Radio Shack for $12-$20.
If you have any G5 iMac model EXCEPT the iSight version, you can probably do the battery install yourself.  Watch this video on upgrading your iMac's RAM to show you how to remove the back of your iMac, if you don't already know how:
http://eshop.macsales.com/installvideos/imac_g5_mem_m/
While you have the back off, use a can of compressed air to blow the dust out the vents at the bottom of the iMac, the fans, and anywhere else you can.  Also inspect the 28-30 capacitors on the logic board.  Look for dark spots, if they look puffy or swollen, or leaks.
Option 3
Reset the SMC by removing all cables (USB, Firewire, Ethernet, Modem, Power cord) from the back of your computer.  Let it sit for one minute.  Press and hold the power on button on the back of the iMac while plugging in the power cord.  Release the power on button.  Count to five, the press the power on button again.
Option 4
Place your original, came with the iMac when purchased install disk, into the slot on the iMac, press and hold the C key while pressing the power on button on the back of the computer.  (If you have upgraded your OS from when you purchased your iMac, example your iMac came with OS 10.3 installed, and you're now using OS 10.5, then use the OS 10.5 Retail Install disk that you had used to upgrade your OS instead of the original, came with the iMac disk.)
Continue holding the C key until you see the OS starting to load.  DO NOT do an OS installation.  At the top Menu bar, select Utilities or Utility, and pull down to Disk Utility.  On the left side of the window that opens, select your normal OS drive.  (If you don't see your normal OS drive listed, then the drive could be dead.)  Click First Aid at the top middle of the window if it isn't already selected.  Click Repair Disk from the lower right area of the window.  When that is done, click Repair Permissions to the left of the Repair Disk button you clicked earlier.
When that is done, quit Disk Utility.  From the top Menu bar (I think its under Utilities) select the Start Up Manager, and choose your normal boot volume as the startup disk.  Restart the computer.  If successful, and you've rebooted from your normal startup disk, eject the install DVD/CD, and you're good to go.
Good luck.

  • What can I do about Packet Loss?

    Hey Verizon Community,
As the title says, what can I do about packet loss?
I have been having network spike issues in the video game Starcraft II, and Blizzard support told me to run a pathping to their servers (pathping pasted below). Upon doing that, I discovered that in hop 4, also known as G0-5-4-5.BLTMMD-LCR-22.verizon-gni.net [130.81.191.214], there was 2% packet loss. What can I do about this? Who can I contact to try and get this resolved?

Actually it means nothing since its in the middle of the tracert.   Probably the server supports the ping, but at a very low priority so the packets are being counted as lost.  Many servers don't even respond to tracert.

  • What is the difference between packet-speaker and packet-publisher?

What is the difference between packet-speaker and packet-publisher in Coherence?

I believe that both are responsible for sending packets on the network. The packet speaker is used by the packet publisher when the publisher determines that there is a good chance that the send operation will block. By allowing the speaker to handle the potentially blocking send operation the publisher can continue to process outgoing packets.

  • What is the function of packet memory?

Cisco routers generally uses two types of
memory, Flash and DRAM. "cisco 2500 (68030) processor (revision A) with 4096K/2048K bytes of memory". The first memory number is the DRAM and
the second is the packet memory. What function does packet memory serve?
    Thanks.

Packet memory is used to store incoming and outgoing packets. And it is also called shared memory in Cisco 2500.

  • So what's the difference bewteen "packet data" and...

just wanna know the difference between "packet data"and "highspeed GSM"while creating new access point in destination section.
totally confused, any help should be appreciated.

    Essentially nothing.
Depending on what you have your compiler strictness level set to, you can get it to generate a warning when you use an uninitialized variable.
In Java, variables are assigned a default value dependent on type. All subclasses of Object are assigned a default type of null, and all primitive number data types are assigned a default value of 0.
This differs from (for example) C, where variables are simply assigned a location in memory when they are declared, and the value of the variable is whatever was currently in that memory location when allocated. Using uninitialized variables in C is generally a big no-no.
You'll find a lot of old-school C programmers who migrated to Java will initialize their variables :)
Btw, this question probably belongs in another forum.

  • What is the use of Data packet dim with Virtual cube with services

    Hi Friends,
Could anybody tell me what is the use of Packet dimension in Virtual cube with services , It cannot contain data persistently ,Just fetch at runtime,Then there is no Physical load happening,Then why it should be automatically created for this??
Message was edited by: Pradeep choudhari

    Hi Maik,
Unit dimension will not be created automatically until and unless you have keyfigure referning units..
But my question is : Why should we have data pack dimension , which is useless in this case of Virtual cube with services. It should not be created automatically!! What do you say??

  • Spain - Self Invoice ( Auto Factura )

    Hello,
There is a new requiremnt in Spain to report what is called "Self Invoice" or "Auto Factura".  I found some documentation on OSS.
New tax codes and new number ranges need to be created.  Is anyone familiar with this set-up at all.  Has anyone worked on this in Spain.
Thanks for any information will be appreciated.

If you can't tell us which kind of AW6 documents you are trying to convert, we can't help more.
    I repeat :
    Pages import AW6 WP documents
    Numbers import AW6 SS documents
I posted scripts transferring AW Draw documents in Pages (or Numbers)
There is no way to import other documents with Apple applications.
I create my typical test file with a copy paste of the AppleScript library in which I store my handlers.
The result is a 58 pages document with 12131 words.
The file size is 139 Kbytes.
I know well that Pages is verbose but I'm a bit surprised by the size which you get.
You may send the original AW6 document to my mailbox.
I will try to understand why the result is so large.

  • Multiple XMP Packets. Why?

I've read the XMP specification and I did'nt understand why it's possible to have more than one XMP packet in a file.
I can't find any reason for that. I think it's not clear for a person to understand what is the "main" XMP packet taking a look inside a PDF file for example.
Why incremental saving don't write only one XMP packet uploading it?
Anyone knows the reason for that choice?
    Davide Noaro.

Multiple XMP packets within a file have a tremendous value for enterprise customers. We offer an XMP-centric digital asset management system (MediaBeacon) that catalogs any file type and stores all data in XMP. XMP is then mirrored into an SQL database and we maintain the link between the two.
Multiple XMP packets within a file give our customers an opportunity to have separate metadata blocks for each department, for instance. We are able to specify which blocks are viewable and editable by a given user or group of users. So, each file can have any number of namespace aware (unlike XML) metadata fields or metadata blocks that are unique across the universe.
Using Pound Hill's software you can customize the way each tab looks.
Here's what these XMP blocks look like to the end user. They are all collapsible - below you can see only "XMP Basic" tab open.

  • Is it possible to track Self Service Application Usage?

We have the need to measure who is doing what in our self service applications. An example would be who has logged into Manager Self Service over the last month, save this data and then begin to do a trend analysis on that data? Also could we also drill down into the responsibilities and do some reporting at the function level. I thought that we initially we could /modify the Audit seeded reports under sysadmin i.e. Signon Audit Responsibilities. They work but it appear they only work on Form driven responsibilities. Also i have looked into the Workflow tables but dont know if this is the direction we want to be going.
So any and all information that could point in the right direction it would be greatly appreaciated

Can you confirm what test you ran that gave you these statistics?
100% packet loss would mean that there is nothing coming through the pipe for that period of time.  You are essentially disconnected at 100% loss, speed is the least of your concerns.  That is also going to depend on what you are testing your packet loss test against.  Perhaps VZW is blocking this particular test from completing.
A more standard test is to get a browser, connect to the Jetpack and navigate to SpeedTest.net.  Run a few tests here and take the average speeds that are recorded to paint a better picture.
Xbox also has well known limitations with the VZW 4G LTE network.  Unless something new has happened all Xbox users on 4G LTE are not able to host multiplayer games due to the NAT firewall that runs that network.

  • Command to disable packet inspection?

    cisco 2651XM
    IOS: c2600-ipbasek9-mz.124-23.bin
I need to diable RDP packet inspection on this router but I can't find where I do that. I'm having troubele with audio on a sip line and I read here (bottom of page)
    http://forums.asterisk.org/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=76056&p=150405&hilit=one+way+audio+forward+ports#p150405
that turning off RDP packet solved the problem. I've looked through the config and searched on google but couldn't find the asnwer. what is the command to turn off RDP packet inspection?

Do you have a firewall in the picture because it would be the firewall like ASA performing packet inspection not the 2600 router.  Also unless I am missing something I think it is weird that RDP (Port 3389) packet inspection causing issues with your SIP line.  Unless asterik uses that port for something.  Any ways start from your firewall.  Also setup a sniffer and see what is happening to the packets.

  • Invalid packet length error in logs

For over a week now I’ve been getting the following error in my log once a minute:
    Invalid packet (too large) length=17247
I’ve seen it stop for maybe an few hours a couple times but otherwise it’s constant. Anyone know how to track down who or what is sending this invalid packet?
    Thanks

    Hi,
your router will drop the over sized packet if the DF flag is set.  However, it will return a message to the originating device showing packet oversize.
You can try setting the router logging to debug and verbose.  This should return the originating IP.  One other thing that you can do is take a close look at any devices  that you have setup.
Additionally, you can try changing the MTU on the router but this could result in performance
degradation.  Alternatively, if you can identify the originating device, you can try changing
     the MTU there as well.

  • Connecting a selfie stick via bluetooth

When I connect my selfie stick with bluetooth, my phone thinks it's a keyboard and will not let me use the keyboard on the phone when it's connected. This is a problem with snapchat because I can't write anything on my pictures and when I unconnect the device, the photo goes away. Is there a way that I can choose how the selfie stick is connected so that my phone does not read it as a keyboard?

What is that selfie stick? Maybe Xperia doesn't have drivers to support it. If it introduces itself to the phone as HID keyboard it is normal behavior that on screen keyboard will not show. I guess you can play around with settings in Settings / Input but I'm not sure if you can force on screen keyboard with hardware keyboard connected (you selfie stick it this case).
