What is a SiM card and do I need one in order to send email from my iPad?

What is a SIM card and do I need one in order to be able to send email from my iPad?

For further detail, a SIM card is a very small, thin, printed circuit card which you insert into a tiny drawer in your mobile device. It is your mobile/cellular account, with your personal details on it. So you can move it from one device to another. Before smartphones (like the iPhone), SIM cards also contained your Contact list. Since smartphones contain so much information now, the SIM card just identifies you to the cellular/mobile network. It means you can carry your phone number with you from one phone to another.
You can get a SIM card for iPad from any Apple Store or phone shop. Note that the newer iPhones and the iPads use what's called a "micro-SIM", which is smaller than a regular SIM card, so it takes up less room inside the phone, and they can stick more hardware in there for better performance. Make sure you ask for a "micro-SIM for iPad".
As Rudegar says, you don't need a SIM in your iPad if you always have WiFi access. But if you need to send email or messages outside a WiFi network, then you need a SIM, so you can access the cellular/mobile phone tower network.
You can get prepaid SIM cards which give you so much data for a certain period of time. You need to decide how much data you need, and how often you want to "recharge" it. The salespeople should be able to help you work that out.

  • I cannot send emails from my IPad and IPhone

I cannot send emails from my iPad or iPhone, but can receive them.  I can send from my iMac using the same settings and network...  Ideas?

What is your iOS version? Try deleting the account in Mail and setting it up again. Repeat in second device if successful/necessary.

About ~20 hours later, this ended up solving itself. We can send email using the '.icloud' email from both the iPad and iPhone.  Advise would be 'wait' before you start seeking alteranatives like yahoo, hotmail, etc.  This definitely is a convenient way to keep all your 'cloud' information in a centralized place, including the common email...

"Your email account" means to tap on the name of your email account. Whatever it is listed as in the settings.
In my mail settings, one of my email accounts is a Comcast account. I tap on the Comcast name and it brings up this window.
Then I tap on the arrow under the Outgoing mail server smtp setting to get to the next window.
In the resulting window, I then tap on the arrow next to the smtp server under the Primary Server setting.
That brings up this window in which I check to make sure that my user name and password have been entered correctly. If those items are missing, enter them in the appropriate fields and then tap done.

As you haven't told us who your email provider is, no.
There isn't an SMTP server for Greece - it is either provided by your email provider, or the Internet provider you are connected through.

I have a 1st gen iPhone that I just updated the software to 2.0.2
Now whenever I press the mail icon it goes to the mail app for about 4 seconds, does nothing, no loading of folders, old messages, nothing.
Then it reverts back to the home screen. Tried restarting, haven't tried restoring, thought I'd look here first.
    Anyone???

  • TS3899 I cannot send email from my ipad the message keeps saying rejected by the server but there is nothing wrong with my email account with talk talk as I am able to send email from my iPhone and laptop any ideas?

My email won't send from my iPad.  It says the server rejects it almost immediately I press the send email button, although there is nothing wrong with my email account when sending from my laptop or iphone. I have cancelled the account and re-entered it but it hasn't made a difference? Anybody help?

    Hi Allan,
Thank you for your help . The account used to work perfectly until recently, after receiving support from the provider, I deleted the account now I am trying to set the account again.
After putting in the first details (name, email, description) Cannot send mail the password or username for "mail.bigpond.com" is incorrect. I would expect this because the information I put in is not for Bigpond. So I press ok & I change the outgoing server (this is the one that is incorrectly labelled bigpond) to aapt, then I press save.
Then it says "verifying" but comes up with Cannot connect using SSL do you want to try setting up the account without SSL. I press yes.
Then I get the message "the POP server "mail.aapt.net.au" is not responding. Check your network connection & that you entered the correct information in the incoming mail server. (I ahve already checked this with aapt & it is correct.

  • How can i send email from my ipad and have it go to my home computer

When recently travelling I tried to send emails home but often they came back into my ipad inbox but never went to the home computer. How can I get them to load at home?

If your iPad settings for email do not remove the mail from the server your computer will retrieve the mail when you send it to yourself.
    On your iPad
Settings --> Account --> Advanced --> Delete Mail from Server --> Never
I always have my Mail set this way on my iPad. This way I let my computer retrieve and archive email and delete items from the server.

  • What is a bootable backup and do i need one? what are partitions good for?

    hello,
    please excuse my ignorance...
i just got a new lacie external firewire hard drive and it has some software which i was wandering if i have any use for... - SilverKeeper and LaCie Backup Software. i'm not sure if they can give me anything that time machine doesn't do better... SilverKeeper gives the option of cloning a bootable backup. i'm not exactly sure what's the advantage of this and in what case i may need it.
when i got my last computer i was able to transfer everything from the old computer, including applications, to the new one without having to find all the serial numbers and reinstall them. i thought that time machine will be able to do the same thing if i lose all the data on my computer. is that not so? is that what a bootable clone is for? or what is it for?...
my other question is what are the advantages of making partitions in my new drive (i understand i have to if i want a bootable backup, but is there any reason to partition otherwise?
    thanks!
    dannah

SilverKeeper gives the option of cloning a bootable backup. i'm not exactly sure what's the advantage of this and in what case i may need it.
A bootable backup is an exact copy of your hard drive's contents on another drive, that can be used for booting up the machine. The advantage of a bootable backup is that, in the event something bad happens to your internal drive, you can very quickly get up and running with the backup drive, and can copy that back to a replaced/fixed internal drive very quickly. Time Machine backups are not bootable.
The disadvantage of a clone of any kind, bootable or not, is that there's only one version of any particular file stored. So if a file gets damaged and then backed up, you're pretty well screwed with the clone, while Time Machine stores many versions of the file, so you just "roll back" to the last working copy.
when i got my last computer i was able to transfer everything from the old computer, including applications, to the new one without having to find all the serial numbers and reinstall them.
Bad idea... while this will work for most apps, different machines have different architectures, so some apps may not be installed correctly for the new machine, plus you may not have properly copied some components. You should have reinstalled them.
i thought that time machine will be able to do the same thing if i lose all the data on my computer. is that not so?
If you have Time Machine back up the entire hard drive, without excluding anything, then Time Machine should be able to restore your drive to exactly the way it was at any particular moment in time at which it made a backup, including apps, system files, preferences, etc.
my other question is what are the advantages of making partitions in my new drive (i understand i have to if i want a bootable backup, but is there any reason to partition otherwise?
You do not have to partition to make a bootable backup. However, you'll be using the entire drive... trying to store additional files on the same drive as a bootable clone is confusing at best. Using a partition allows you to create multiple "virtual" drives... say, one for a bootable backup, one for a Time Machine backup, one for movie files, etc. Of course, this is only advisable if the drive is much larger than the one you're backing up, and note that if you store original files on a partition (like a bunch of movie files), you need a backup of those somewhere else.
Time Machine will want it's own full drive or partition to play with, which should be larger than the drive being backed up, and will eventually fill it. A bootable clone probably also should go onto its own partition, but you wouldn't need to make this partition larger than the drive being cloned. Other than that, don't worry about partitioning unless you have a specific need.

  • HT3302 I recently fried my iPhone 3GS in water. Is it still possible to get pictures from the SIM card and transfer them to my new iPhone 5s?

I recently fried my iphone3gs from accidental water submersion . Is it possible to retrieve any photos from the some card and transfer to my new iphone5

It depends on what kind of sim card and carrier you have, but the most likely answer is no. Contacts, maybe, but pictures are very unlikely. Sorry.

You did not ruin the phone, you will need a sim card to activate the phone and then connect the phone to itunes and do a restore from back up.
