What is a SUID file?
Each time I repair permissions I get the following message, and don't understand what it means, and why it can't be repaired.
Is this a sign of the HD going bad, should I be concerned about this file?
My iMac was purchased in Oct 2007. 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.
I have 160 gb available out of 250 gb.
OS 10.9.1.
I haven't figured out how to change my profile, so it still shows OS 10.8.
Thanks for the help
"Warning” SUID file “System/Library/CoreServices/…Agent” has been modifies and will not be repaired."
Each time I repair permissions
The last time I repaired permissions was about eight years ago.
Although it’s immensely popular, repairing permissions is a waste of time unless you have a specific indication of a permission error involving system files, which is rare, or a boot failure. It is not a universal rite of healing for computers. It has traditionally spewed bogus warning messages that mean absolutely nothing.
The built-in help for Disk Utility reads in part:
If you see an alert or a message that says your permissions are set incorrectly, you can correct the disk’s permissions by clicking Repair Disk Permissions.
It’s justifiable, though rarely necessary, to repair permissions after running a third-party software installer, as defective installers have been known to damage the permissions of system files.

What is Warning: SUID file, etc. will not be repaired and what is ACL found
please look at my Disk Utility log here and tell me what the SUID warning is about. Should I be concerned and do I need to fix this some way?
Also, the ACL has recently shown up and I don't know what that is.
And, the user/share/derby I don't know where that came from.
Do I have a virus or something?
I have another problem that I will address in a different thread.
Thanks in advance for your help!

What these pesky SUID files are? Any solution please?
When did permission repair (my computer can't start) , 2 PESKY FILES were found and can not be repaired
despite I've run the repair 4 times.
Here are the warnings at permission repair window:
SUID file" System/Library/private Frameworks/Admin.Frameworks/Versions/A/resources/readconfig" has been modified and will not be repaired
SUID file "System/Library/private Frameworks/Admin.Frameworks/Versions/A/resources/writeconfig" has been modified and will not be repaired.
The big question- what exactly these files are and how to fix/ eliminate them ?
The task is too complex for a novice like me and on the top of everything I am able
start my Mac only from backup disk (I suspect these SUID files for messing up with normal startup)
Mac is MacBookPro OS X 10.6
Any help about these pesky files, please? You can safely ignore these messages - search the forum there must a request like this every other day. Whatever is causing your other issues it isn't this.

I spent the month of November on the phone with Apple support.on a crashing and permissions going wild situation. I ended up getting a new HD for my iMac through and Apple Authorized service center. All has been well until today when I woke the iMac up from sleep to have it crash - a white screen of death. I rebooted and ran disk utilities from the HD partition and from the command R partition to have it say this -
Warning: SUID file “System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent” has been modified and will not be repaired.
What does this mean and what are some possible remedies?
Thanks,
Ted FajenDon't worry about it, it's a normal system message that can be safely ignored.

System is acting quirky. I have to do a lot of "Forced Quit"s. Ran permissions repair and keep getting this as part of the report (Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired).
Disk utility seems to indicate drive is OK, but I have to do a lot of rebooting. Any ideas?
Thanks.Don't worry about this permission > http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448

System/Library/CoreS.......has been modified and can not be repaired.
The wording above is from the utilites First Aid report. They started popping up sometime late in Leopard or early in Snow Leopard (it's been so long I can't remember exactly), but they can be safely ignored.
Mac OS X: Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions messages that you can safely ignore -
What does this message mean? "Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired" I get this when I try to repair permissions in disk utility.
It's an innocuous error you can ignore. It was introduced with previous updates for ARD and/or Java before Lion. These are messages, not errors. They will cause no harm, and they will be repeated each time you repair permissions.

Warning SUID file modified after verify disc permissions 10.6.8 - what to do ?
hi
II have had a super slow computer for about 2 weeks mac book pro / 10.6.8
the rainbow wheel is turning a lot [ even internet is slow - but speed check says it isn't ]
I moved things off it to make more space
now 499.76 gb / 28.92 gb free
I do a lot f wrintg and images and think I have a lot of files:
Number of Folders :
213,675
Number of Files :
795,199
I just ran Verify permissions in Disc utilities and this was one result listed [ amidst other permissions found awry I've said 'repair' to - undertaking those now ] :
Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired.
what does this mean = what should I do
* I am barely computer literate [its workings-wise]...
and too scared to put in the original disc etc.
Also I just read this on the forum:
....."OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.)"

Re: Mac running very Slow and Hot
Sep 2, 2012 1:15 PM (in response to mvcola)
If you don't have any processes consuming a lot of CPU time, then the computer shouldn't be running hot.
and wondering if no sleep has cuased this - because sometime this year I did change to no sleep to sleep after an hour [I think] which I thought would make computer wear less/ last longer - should I go back to "no sleep" ?
thanks for any advice about smooth operation checkups etc for non computer savvy type who doesn't want to lose or wreck anything !
JulieYou can ignore that message.
As long as the report ends up with 'Permissions repair complete' (when you repair the disk, not just verify it) then, as far as permissions go, you are fine. You can ignore the various statements in the report:
Permissions you can ignore on 10.5 onwards:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448 -
Warning: SUID file “System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent” has been modified and will not be repaired. When I repaired "disk permission", this message was what came up. What does this mean, and how can I fix it?
The opperating system I am using is 10.7.4, and updating to the latest version currently. Computer is running fine, except that when I did some utility repairs, I got the warning above, and not really sure what do, in regards to repairing it correctly, not just getting the message off of my computer.
Thank you for your help, and please only contribute if you know about this issue please. That's a status message which can be safely ignored.

What to do about error msg in Disk Utility on MacBook Air:
Warning: SUID file “System/Library/Core/Services/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDA gent"has been modified and will not be repaired.”As long as the report ends up with 'Permissions repair complete' then, as far as permissions go, you are fine. Using 'should be -rw-r--r-- , they are lrw-r--r--' as an example, you will see the that the permissions are not changed, but the | indicates a different location. This is because an update to Leopard onwards changed the location of a number of system components.
Poster rccharles has provided this description of what it all means:
drwxrwxrwx
d = directory
r = read
w = write
x = executeable program
drwxrwxrwx

I got this message. What does it mean?
Warning: SUID file “System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent” has been modified and will not be repaired. That the current software is installed. Ignore it.

My SUID file, whatever that is , has been changed and is not fixed when I use Disc utilities to correct permissions. seem to be slowing things down.
That change is not the issue, does not need "fixing", and is not the source of your slowdowns. If it were a real issue, Apple would be providing a fix for it every time (else the genius Bar would be swamped with visits to fix that).
Please describe the SYMPTOMS you see in the greatest detail you can so that others can help you determine exactly what might be happening to your Mac. Slowdowns happen for dozens of different reasons. -
When I repair permissions in disk untilities, I get one result that cannot be repaired:
Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired.
I recently had a new hard drive installed by Apple, after mine failed. The permissions seem to get out of whack quite often, and I get the message above.
Can you please tell me what may be going on?For more information, see:

This morning, without making any hardware or software changes, I found my internet access to be intermitent and slow across all browsers. I have attempted using wifi and ethernet, uninstalling browsers and re-installing, changing IP config, disabling firewall. Other devices on our network are operating normally but mine has been sluggish.
I then noticed that anytime one browser hung up, I could open a new one and the hung one would then start loading again. I could switch between browsers - as one hung up, I could load a new page in another and the hung one would begin working again.
One suggestion I found online was to repair the disk so I finally began with a permission verification. The first entry was as above:
Warning: SUID file “System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent” has been modified and will not be repaired.
Stopped by user
ACL found but not expected on “Users/Shared”
I had issues about a month ago and fully repaired the hard drive at that time. I mostly use an ipad during the day, rarely on my macbook any more.
What is ACL?
I have remote management disabled in System Preferences > Sharing. So what is with the ARDAgent file mod and the non-repair?
Finally, what is the stopped by user message? I did nothing to interrupt permission verification - DiskUtility proceeded from there normally?
Could any of these have something to do with my odd browser behavior? You can ignore the parts about ARDAgent, it's normal behavior so you don't need to worry about it.
ACL is Access Control Lists; they're like advanced permissions for when standard (POSIX) permissions aren't enough for a server. However, you've mentioned that only your device is having issues on the network; I would try a clean install of OSX provided all of your info is backed up.
