What is a valid J2EE application ?

Hi,
As J2EE is a combination of x amount of technologies (i.e. Servlets / JSP / EJB / JDBC / etc) if you use any of these in an application are you building a J2EE application. Sorry if it sounds a stupid question.
Andre

I tell you what, u have hit the nail on its top.
It is really a good question.
J2EE is basically for Enterprise Level Applications
which handles Server Side computing.
So if you are doing Server Side coding thing,
then I swear on you it is definitely a J2EE app.
And there is no invalidity about it.

Avish.

  • Version control J2EE applications

    Hello,
This is a fairly general question regarding version control. I want to bundle a J2EE application as an EAR file and deploy it to a number of different application servers. On every server where the EAR file is deployed, I would like to keep a history of what version of the J2EE application was installed, and when.
For example, say I have 3 servers (S1, S2, and S3), and want to deploy myApp.ear to all 3. Something's gone wrong (the application doesn't deploy to S2), and we're not aware of any problems until users start complaining. How can I check which version of my J2EE application has been successfully deployed on each server at a glance?
Are there any logs kept regarding J2EE deployment histories in the Enterprise Manager? How are these logs maintained? Are they self maintianing?
We currently have a custom made installation system for non J2EE apps that adds an entry to a table on one of our databases that records the username, date, time and version of a particular application when it is installed. We can't use this custom installation system when we bundle our applications as EARs.
Basically, how have you guys (other professionals) managed software releases with EARs? Can you recommend any methods, articles, or utilities? Does 10g Application Server provide any means of managing releases?
    Thanks for your input!

    Hello,
You bring up an interesting problem. At the moment 10.1.2 does not have anyway to manage releases, however there is a simple way out of this.
When creating the ear file (i.e. pre-deploy), you can add a versions.txt to your ear file which will have the version number of the application. In regards to the time-stamp, the application server will create a directory (under applications and application-deployments) for the respective deployment. In conjunction with the version.txt and the timestamp of your files on the OS, you could get a pretty good feel of releases.
If you implement your own logging into a file system (which means writing more code), you could do this as well.
You could also write a servlet that starts-up and writes this data to the DB, however please note that this write will happen every time you start the OC4J instance, so this might not be a good solution.
    Hope this helps.

I'd first try downloading an installer from the Apple website using a different web browser:

Perhaps try downloading and saving a copy of the installer to a different PC. (If you're on a 32-bit Windows system, try to download on a different 32-bit Windows system.) Copy the iTunesSetup.exe installer to an external hard-drive, or a large-enough thumb drive or burn it to a CD-R. Carry the installer back to your PC, copy the installer to your hard drive. (Don't run the install from the ExHD, thumb or CD-R.) Start the install by doubleclicking the iTunesSetup.exe file.

  • When I try to open Firefox 4.0 I get an error message saying that it is not a valid Win32 Application. What do I do? I am using Windows XP Sp3

I downloaded Firefox 4.o exe. When I tried to open it I got an error message stating that it was not a valid Win32 application. I am using windows XP SP3. How do I get it to open?

[[Firefox is already running but is not responding]] has steps that you can try. It sounds like you may have something that is hanging your browser on exit (probably an extension or a locked profile) and the steps on that page should help clear it up.

  • TS3212 I just finished downloading iTunes, but when I clicked "Run" Windows indicated that it was not a valid WIN application and I lost the download. What can I do?

I've been having a lot of trouble with iTunes lately. When I would sync my iPod to iTunes, many of the most recent songs I had downloaded would be removed from my playlists and their respective play counts wouldn't be updated. I had thought that updating iTunes would fix my problems, but each time I tried to download the update, nothing would happen. The dialog box that gives you the option to open or run the program would not appear. Finally, after referring to the Apple Support Community, I was able to find a link to download iTunes that allowed me to do so. But when the download was complete and I attempted to run the program, a Windows error occurred that indicated iTunes was not a valid WIN application. It gave me no other option but to click "OK" and when I did, I lost the entire download. I hope that there is a way to fix this problem.
    Thanks for reading.

  • No WSDL Validation at Application Level for Enterprise Web Services

    Hello community,
We are building Enterprise Web Services in our application running on Netweaver 7.40 and have built several service definitions through the Enterprise Service Builder tool.   Ultimately the WSDL file that the builder creates is mapped to Java skeleton classes which define the API for the service endpoints thanks to Netweaver Developer Studios' 'Generate Java Bean Skeleton' functionality.    What we noticed was that during the processing of requests, the application was ignoring all validation imposed/defined in the WSDL definition.
We're assuming that this type of validation is part of an operating Web Service implementation on any J2EE Application Container - including Netweaver - and the Container would be responsible for early validation stages of request processing, utilizing the Service definitions.
Is it not part of the JSR-921 specification that compliant applications include a SOAP Processor that parses and validates a SOAP request that is submitted?   Where It is part of the responsibility of the SOAP processor upon receiving a Service request to validate and THEN relay the request to the appropriate Service method?
We could potentially validate our own but we have 100's of objects to manually validate against which becomes a very tedious and hard to maintain exercise.   It seems redundant and common behavior that should be handled at the Service layer by the SOAP processor within the Container should it not?
Validation capabilities seem to be provided by other vendor products such as Oracle AS and WebSphere.    Does anyone know if Netweaver offers this and if so how would we go about implementing it through configuration or otherwise?
    Thank you!
    Hanif

    Hi,
If WSNavigator is not asking for password then endpoint is not configured for user/password so go ahead and use this wsdl in .Net application, it should work fine,
Just make sure that session is not stored in WSNavigator and that's why it is not asking for user/password. I believe if you open wsdl with binding it should ask for user/password.

  • SSO to J2EE application from SAP Portal

    Hi
I am trying to do SSO from SAP Portal to a J2EE engine which runs on SAP Web AS.
    Here are my queries
    1. When I deploy a J2EE application on Web AS , I dont get any login screen. How can I make sure that if a user wants to access this J2EE application he should get a login screen and provide his login credentials first, only then would he be able to access the J2EE application.
2.When I am done with Part 1. If a user tries to access this J2EE application from the Portal (asuming the user Id's in Portal and J2EE application are same and both are in the same domain) , I should not get any login screen and should be able to view the J2EE application.
3.I want to use SAP Logon tickets generated by the Portal to enable SSO.
I have done all the necessary configurations in the J2EE server.
    1. Imported the Portal's verify.der certificate.
    2. Adjusted the login modules stack for the application accordingly.
Can anyone please help me out with this or throw some light.
    Please help.
    Thanks in advance,
    Vivek
PS - Points will be definitely rewarded

    Hi Vivek,
Let me give you the solution for both questions differently.
<b>Ques 1. When I deploy a J2EE application on Web AS , I dont get any login screen. How can I make sure that if a user wants to access this J2EE application he should get a login screen and provide his login credentials first, only then would he be able to access the J2EE application.</b>
<b>Ans:</b> For doing this in the code of your J2EE application you have to write a if statement which will check if the user ID is coming from the backend or not. If yes then you display that logon page else you just pass that username which is coming from backend and displ;ay the page accordingly.
<b>Ques 2.When I am done with Part 1. If a user tries to access this J2EE application from the Portal (asuming the user Id's in Portal and J2EE application are same and both are in the same domain) , I should not get any login screen and should be able to view the J2EE application.</b>
<b>Ans:</b> Yes, this is what I am explaining you. Even I had also made same kind of J2EE application in which if the user is coming from the backend then he/she will look the J2EE screen else if the username is not coming then he will se the Login screen. Exactly same as what are looking for.
<b>3.I want to use SAP Logon tickets generated by the Portal to enable SSO.</b>
<b>Ans:</b> I have used User Mapping instead of SAP Logon ticket. Well that is also the option for SSO but personally I think User Mapping is easy and better way for implementing SSO.
I dont know whether this will help you or not. Please let me know. I can definately help if you want to implement SSO using User Maping.
    Regards
    Pravesh

  • J2EE application access from Portal - P4ObjectBroker

    hey all,
I want to access access a J2EE application (Web Service) from a Portal Component. The documentation at http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/c0/a584409db95537e10000000a1550b0/content.htm shows an example.
They import the package <b>com.sap.engine.services.rmi_p4.P4ObjectBroker</b>. I cannot find the package on my system, i.e. my local portal installation.
Does anybody know what kind of package is required, or where I can find this package...
    many thanks in advance
    cheers Sascha

    Hey Sascha,
the P4ObjectBroker is part of the implementation of the P4 Provider Service on the J2EE Engine. It is part of the com.sap.engine.services.rmi_p4 package.
If you can't find it I recommend you to search it using ClassLocator, it is a plugin that indexes all your packages and locates the propar class for you.
You can download it at this link: http://sourceforge.net/projects/classlocator
Read the instructions of how to use it with the NWDS, it is really simple. If you need more help do tell me.

  • Is anyone doing disaster recovery for a J2EE application?

We generally use database log shipping to maintain a standby database for our ABAP instances.  We can successfully fail over our production application to our disaster recovery site with no real issues.  With the J2EE instances (EP, ESS/MSS, BI, etc), we have a few concerns:
hostname cannot change, without going through a system copy procedure, so we would have to keep the hostnames in DR the same. (for example, ref: oss note 757692 - changing hostname is not supported)
fully qualified domain name - from what I understand, there are potentially issues with changing the fqdn, for example SSO certificates, BSPs, XI has issues, etc.
we can't keep both hostname and fqdn the same between DR and production, or we could never do a DR test.
Has anyone implemented disaster recovery for any SAP J2EE application that has run into these concerns and addressed them?  Input would be greatly appreciated regarding how you addressed these issues, or how you architected your disaster recovery implementation.
    Regards,
    David Hull
    The Walt Disney Company

I haven't done this personally, but I do have some experience with these issues in different HA environments.
To your first point:  You can change the hostname, note 757692 tells you exactly how to do it.  However like the note says, "Changing the name of a host server in a production system is not automatically supported by SAP."  When it says "supported by SAP" I think it means SAP the company, not SAP's software.  So I would contact SAP to see if this configuration would be covered under your service agreement.  Then you have to think about whether you want to do something that isn't "officially supported" by SAP.  Also I'm sure you'll need some kind of additional licensing for the DR systems as their hardware keys will de different.
To your second point:  As for SSO certs (SAP Login Tickets), I think they should still work as long as the SID and client number of the issuing system remain the same.  I don't think they are hostname or fqdn dependant.  For BSPs I would think they would still work as long as they use relative paths rather than absolute paths.  And for XI... I have no idea what kind of issues may arise, I'm not an XI guy.
Again, I haven't done what you're describing myself.  This is just based on my HA experiences.
    Hope this helps a little,
    Glenn

  • How can i protect J2EE applications from piracy?

I m looking for solution to protect Web application from piracy.
I want my application run on web server for which it is built, &
it musn't run on any other web server.
how can i protect my web application from piracy?.
Our .Net applications we protect using Hardware ID binding ,
How can i protect J2EE applications?

How is it going to get anywhere else? What's the threat model here? and what's the real, not imaginary, cost to you of the threat succeeding? and can you price your product such that it's cheaper to buy it than to pirate it?
The answers to this question probably aren't in the field of tricky code or cryptography. They're more likely in marketing, time-to-market, pricing, and in physical security of the server, ...

  • Simple J2EE application fails under activation

    Hi,
I have a simple J2EE application which contains one Servlet.
I have two DCs: SSORedirector (Enterprise application project) and SSORedirectWebModuleWebModule (Web Module)
(there is a third DC which is a child DC to SSORedirector, but I don't think it causes any problems)
The web module has by default public part called war (an I haven't touched this).
The Enterprise application project I have addeed the required references to the web module in the application.xml(this automatically set a Used DC reference).
When right-clicking the enterprise application and selecting build, it builds a correct ear file, and if I deploy it to my local workplace installation, the J2EE application works as expected.
However, when I try to check in and activate the activity the SDM deployment fails with the message: Info:java.lang.RuntimeException: Incorrect EAR file. I've retrieved the .sda file on the file system (shouldn't it be an .ear file) and it contains the application.xml under the folder meta-inf. The complete contents of the sda file is
