What is Adobe Shockwave

I suddenly keep getting "Adobe Shockwave" folder popping up on my desktop.
It pops up at least 3 or 4 times a day.
In the folder there is "Shockwave Installer Full Pkg" and "Shockwave Uninstaller app"
I don't know where it came from or whether I should install it.
Perhaps it came when I upgraded to Mountain Lion, not sure.
Can someone please advise me?
Thanks

Shockwave is a multi-media player and browser plug-in based on Adobe's Flash technology (formerly developed by Macromedia). It is not part of any standard Apple installaton or installer. Adobe Flash and Shockwave are slowly being supplanted by HTML 5 which is endorsed by both Apple and Microsoft among others. Unless you are running into web sites you are unable to fully access because they use Shockwave there is no reason to install it and I would delete the installer and uninstaller.

  • What is Adobe Shockwave player and why do I need it?

Do I need Adobe Shockwave if I already have Adobe Flash?

Shockwave Player is a different player than Flash Player, but there are actually very few sites out there that use it.

  • Firefox Plugins lists Shockwave Flash 12.0.0.70 but Adobe lists this as Adobe Flash Player, and Version 12.0.9.149 as Adobe Shockwave Player, so wtf is going on

Flash causes us all immense confusion, and Firefox is adding to the problem.
My Firefox Add-ons page lists (under Plugins -- isn't there a difference?) that I have:
Shockwave Flash 12.0.0.70 which is set to "Always Activate".
    Adobe websites list:
    Adobe Flash Player 12.0.0.70
    Adobe Shockwave Player 12.0.9.149
-- so what on earth is the Firefox-listed "Shockwave Flash"?
This simply adds to the utter confusion already surrounding Flash Player -- which I cannot find anywhere amongst my Programs -- but which I can find under "Uninstall or change a Program" where it is listed as "Adobe Flash Player 12 Plugin".
There is also the thorny issue of FlashPlayer vs. FlashPlayerDownloader......
I need a flash of inspiration to get me out of shock -- I'm not waving, I'm drowning!

In the internals of the plugin it is still referenced as Shockwave Flash. That hasn't changed as it would break websites that check for a specific plugin name. You can see that on the about:plugins page and in the properties of the Flash plugins file.
You can open the Web Console (Firefox/Tools > Web Developer) and paste this JavaScript code in the command line to see how the Adobe Flash Player plugin identifies itself:
    <pre><nowiki>console.log(navigator.plugins["Shockwave Flash"].name);
    console.log(navigator.plugins["Shockwave Flash"].description);
    </nowiki></pre>
    *https://developer.mozilla.org/Tools/Web_Console
On disk you will also see Macromedia for folder names used by the plugin.
    *32 bit Windows: C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash\
    *64 bit Windows: C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash\
    * C:\Users\&lt;user&gt;\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Flash Player\

  • I used the plug in check and it said i needed to update adobe shockwave. However, i downloaded the most recent version and the check still says I am out of date. I installed 11.5.9r615 for apple os 10.swno leopard full 64 bit. why is this.

I uninstalled shockwave and reinstalled it with the same result. what gives?

I have that same problem on my laptop, it is because Adobe Shockwave does not support 64 bit systems yet...I am not sure how you would do it on your particular operating system, because I am running windows 7..but I have to go into IE 32 and run the update. Check yours and see...hopefully that will work for you or at least this explanation works .

  • PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!! ADOBE SHOCKWAVE SLOW, Lagging, and I NEED URGENT HELP!!

Hello everybody, and how are you all doing on this wonderful Friday?
Today after doing research on the support website for Adobe ShockWave flash player, I'm here as a last resourt.
Allow me to explain the issue!
    WARNING:
THIS IS GOING TO BE EXTREMELY LONG, BUT I NEED HELP VERY VERY BADLY!!
I've waisted people's time because of this issue.
I'm using an HP Windows 7 Laptop with latest version of Windows 7!
I have Adobe ShockWave 11.7 the LATEST VERSION and It is a great program.
However in one of my simulators which is a V500  Evita Ventilator simulator from the company Drager, the performance is HORRID, and when I say horrid, I mean HORRID TIMES 30 and then some.
Keep in mind that this has been tested by the company on other computers, and it works just fine, however on mine the waveforms and data is choppy, slow and what it will do is it will be working smoothly one second, the next second It lags and then catches up, then lags again, and It basically drags along miserably. I used this program online and then when I contacted Drager the owners of the simulator, they thought I get a DVD of the simulator. THEY GAVE IT TO ME FREE OF CHARGE. I got it, and It was still slow and Jerky. I had used Google Chrome to use the simulator online HOWEVER, when I used the DVD, It was still slow. I have a LOAD of computer space, and have tried uninstalling Adobe Shockwave, Reinstalling it, then doing that several times. NOTHING. NOW WHAT??
I'm desperate right now. When I say DESPERATE, THIS HAS GOT TO BE FIXED AS SOON AS POSSIBLY POSSIBLE.
    ASAPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is there some setting I can adjust?
    Or SOMETHING???
The thing is other things that require Adobe Shockwave work just fine. I use a lot of simulators.
    Its just this simulator.
    PLEASE RESPOND!!
    THANK YOU, and God bless.

Shockwave Flash = Flash Player (11.7)
This is the Shockwave Player (v12) forum.
Please post your messages in the proper forum: http://forums.adobe.com/community/flashplayer

  • Adobe Shockwave Player version 11.0.3.472

    Adobe Shockwave Player version 11.0.3.472
Adobe Shockwave Player version 11.0.3.472 released January
    27, 2009
    Windows | English | 4.38 MB
    http://get.adobe.com/shockwave/

I literally had to go through my system and manually remove
the Norton Security Scan files to stop this from happening!
Anyone else with this problem on Windows Vista 32-bit can
stop Norton Security Scan from reinstalling by doing the following
    Delete C:\Windows\system32\Adobe\Shockwave 11\nssstub.exe
    from your system.
    Also in C:\Users\{USERNAME}\AppData\Local\Temp
Remove or quarantine all of the files with Norton in the
    name.
Also in the same folder, Remove or quarantine NSSstub.txt
This is a nuisance! This optional software bundle should not
be selected and installed by default.
Yes, I believe that it hurts the product and brand in the long run that they have opt-out 3rd party software, but they're by far not the only large company that does this with their software.
Anyways, DO NOT uninstall Norton's manually. To clean most Norton's products from your system as fully as you can, use their removal tool: http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039
And for those of you who are still paranoid about using their removal tool to remove their software - this tool came about because of customer complaints, so it does what it says.

I have run it on my old PC using explorer and there isn't a problem bit when i run it on my Mac it shuts down the browser and says there is an error with the IMLLib plug-in.

  • Adobe Shockwave

Hi.  I was just at a website that had short tutorials that use Adobe Shockwave.  I was able to watch the tutorial once, but when I tried to watch another one it said the plug-in was missing.  I downloaded it and installed it but when I tried to watch the tutorial it said it was still missing and I can't find where the plug-in is anywhere.  Is this because it's not compatible or is there a way to fix this?  Thanks!

    How to install
When you click a link, a download of the installer file occurs to your Downloads Folder usually located next to your Trash Can or in your Users Folder.
Open the folder and double click (or File: Open) the download and icon can appear on your desktop which you open and inside is a installer package which you double click on to launch the installer.
OS X will check the download to make sure you intended to start it and that it's not malware it knows about.
Follow the installer instructions to install the software onto your computer and quit when finished.
Some require the browsers to be closed first, others require the machine to be restarted to enable the software.
Once the install is completed, remove any and all downloads from your Download folder, it's safer to keep this folder empty so you can keep track of what appears in there.
Drive by downloads of malware can occur and reside in the Downloads folder, mixing in with files residing there and await your click to install.

  • Adobe Shockwave crashing all the time, freezing my browsers

I just did a clean reload of Adobe Shockwave Flash, and it keeps crashing and
freezing my browsers.  I know that it is at fault because when I install it, my
browsers work normally.  Using Windows 7, 64-bit PC, Firefox and IE browsers.

There's not a lot of detail to work with, but the biggest source of crashes is related to graphics drivers.  It's also a pretty easy place to start.
See the section on disabling hardware acceleration here as a starting point:
    Video playback issues
If you disable hardware and things are way more stable, then see if you have the latest available graphics drivers.
If it doesn't help, give me a few crash reports from Firefox and I'll take a look and see if I can tell you what's going on.
In Firefox, go to about:crashes in the address bar.
Click the first few links, and give me the address from each of the resulting pages.
    Thanks!
