What is an Event? First time user...manual is not clear
I'm trying to rephrase a question I posted earlier without any luck. I'm trying to create my first iMovie project. When I click "New" up at the top it asks for a "Name" which I enter and then it asks for an "Event". I don't know what to pick here. What does it mean? There are no events...which I presume means a movie clip, right?
But even if there was an "event" why would I only pick one movie clip when there could be several clips that make up the movie? I just cannot figure out what "event" means. Surely a movie can have more than one clip in it, right? It might as will be in Russian.
Wouldn't the normal process be to create a project and then add clips to it? This is very confusing. Everybody knows what an "event" is except me.
Isn't a project a movie? What is the difference between a project and an event? It seems like there should only be one or the other.
An Event is folder which iMovie automatically creates to sort clips (many users dump 100s of clips in one rush).
For a single import of just one clip, as you do, for sure this is nonsense. Very little to organize LOL
But when you dump an SDcard of 2 weeks vacation in Italy, you're happy, when you have some sort of scheme, where is what.
The Events are the 'raws pool',
And Events are summarized in Libaries .. a Lib collects/consolidate not only camcorder imports, but also stills,music, narator recordings ... So, when you want to free your internal drive, just delocate the Lib, it will care for, nothing gets lost ....
You find this explanation on pg2 of the Manual ... just click on the blue word Event, a pop up explains it.

Trial Photoshop CS6 - can I access it as a first-time user?
I downloaded trial Photoshop CS6 on my iMac as a first-time user, knowing that my serial number for CS1 was out of date (I'm retired and haven't used Photoshop for years). But I can't activate it. Is it not available for first-time users and if not, how can I uninstall it safely? I really want to try it out before I buy the full version, and was unaware that I needed a serial number until the install.
You don't need a serial number for trielas. if it timed out, something went wrong.
Adobe trial software expired early
Uninstall it using the uninstaller that comes with the program.

Hope I'm in the right place. First time user. Not tech savvy. Just upgraded to OSX Mavericks. Box keeps asking me to enter my iCloud password. I keep entering my password but box keeps popping back up asking for password?! I selected cancel but what should I do next time it asks for my iCloud password? Is my iCloud working? How do I retrieve my password?

You need to plug the iPad into your computer that has iTunes installed on it, and activate it.

I am a new first time user of adobe to convert pdf. files to word, etc. I must add that I am 75 years old and not a computer literate fellow. I have a fairly large pdf file that I want to convert to word so I can cut & paste, etc ? Any & all help will be appreciated.

First Time User. I want to replace my existing VoIP with Skype equivalent. The wiring between Skype hardware and internal phone lines is already in place for the existing VoIP so there is no issue there and I am aware there is no number transfer.

1) For outgoing calls Unlimited US&Canada works fine
2) For incoming calls Online Number costs 30USD per year
Important: Make sure you purchase a subscription first, otherwise you don't get a discount and Online Number will be 60USD
3) Voicemail is free service, you can set it up any time from your account:

4) From hardware side, subscription is linked to your Skype account, therefore it doesn't matter if you make calls from PC, certified Skype phone adaptor, Android phone or iTouch.

First time user of Mac(Book Air) and mouse sensitivity not high enough
First time user of Mac(Book Air) and one thing that has bothered me is when I use a generic USB mouse and I've set the tracking speed/sensitivity to the max and it's still not high enough and it just irritates me to no ends. Am I not doing something properly being a first time mac user? Thanks in advance for any response.
Depends on the mouse. "Laser" with shorter wavelengths are far too sensitive for me and need to be dialed down. IR is worthless in my opinion because they cannot move properly across a black/white checkerboard.
I actually (to my great surprise) love using the trackpad and hate to use the mouse because trackpad keeps my thumbs directly between my hands while typing. But that is just me. -
I have an imac osx 5 months old. For the first time today I can not open my desktop folders which are very important to me. How can I open these folders.
The message when I click on the folder is "appleworks 6 quit unexpectedly". I can not open the folder. Is it possible that new software installed could cause the problem when I get the message "new softward available for your computer, install now. Maybe I should never install upgrade. I understand code injected into a specific app like safari that uses the global environment variable to access the code in /Users/Shared. But I don't understand how that code could be executed by attempting to run an randomly chosen ppc app. Unless of course other code has been injected is in a more critical place than just safari and that is scary.
Some of this was explained to us a few weeks back by an infected user who reverse engineered the code, working with Intego to figure out why he was being re-directed on Google searches. Note that there is a filter component to keep it from loading code into apps that would be unstable, so watch for the next variant to filter out ppc only apps.
In a related matter, I got word from the PC side of the house that similar techniques are being used by drive-by infections that were injecting code into a running app which would disappear when they quit the app. A one-time infection, so to speak. Makes it really hard to even know you were temporarily infected, let alone how, why, what damage, etc. -
I've set up the Apple TV and both the TV & Mac have the same network but I just can't get the Mac content on the TV. It did work the first time I tried but not now. No Air Play Mirroring devices detected. I've reset everything but still no joy - any ideas?
Disable any security software on the computer.
Reboot the computer and the Apple TV. -

I am using FujiFilm DVD-R . Never used the DVD apps or burner before. I PRAM'ed 3 times. Also did 6 CD audio burns to check the drive. Is it the media-- Fuji does not work? I used Office Depot generic for audio CD-Rs.
I keep getting this error message after about 20 minutes of programming the DVD-- then it ejects with this message:
"The recording device reported the media error: Power calibration area error. (0x73, 0x03.)"
When using the IDVD application to burn my slideshow onto a DVD; Then I contacted Apple Care and I was told to use Disk Utility to burn my DVD in lieu of IDVD not working.
I converted my slideshow into a .dmg format; all was verified successfully. Then I receive this error message when attempting to BURN DVD:
"STOP The device drained its buffer without burn under run protection"
I made a WONDERFUl slideshow-- of only 17 slides-- confirmed I have plenty of room on hard drive and et al on the "disk information". I have attempted since May 7th to get this DVD to burn my slideshow. PLEASE HELP ME!!! I have deadlines-- now it is for Tuesday May 15th. Please alert me to an alternative until I can get my Emac working properly on what I can do to make copies of my slideshow ASAP. Thank you.

Your drive is actually TWO devices - one set of optics and laser burns/reads CDs, another set of optics/laser reads/wtites DVDs. The fact that your drive can burn CDs doesn't mean it is working for DVDs.

You might want to get back to Applecare and expalin again the error messages you are seeing. They really don't involve iDVD.

You either have a media problem or you have a DVD burner problem.

So I paid $70.00 and the clerk made 4 copies for me;-) So thanks Walgreens!
Now-- my Mac-- I could not find anything on shelves at Walgreens or Office Depot but the FujiFilm I already have... So I now have time to look elsewhere.
I did PRAM my Emac 3 times-- I tried these things also:
1)Saved the IDVD- .dmg format to QuickTime .mov
I uploaded to google video.com or whatever-- they use their own software-- .gvp file and player. All was successful (even now on YouTube-
2) I then made another version in PowerPoint and saved it as an MPEG
Also for below-- I lowered the burn rate upon the 2nd try to 1x-- took one hour or more (I went to get a root canal... then exfoliate... then I came back;-)
Also tried different .mov from the web-- a great whale shark video that was only 49mb. My presentation is 120 mb. So I was just thinking-- make it smaller; burn slower.
3)I did try to burn from IDVD, Disk Utility and then the drag and burn/click method on the desktop-- put a blank DVD in-- drag the .mov icon to the blank DVD -- write a title for the blank DVD- formats it / Drag to trash-- Burn icon comes up/ Clicked it-- waited 20 minutes and received:
"Error: Error occurred while burning the disc. This disc can not be used."
So I put in another blank Fuji DVD-- just in case. Same error message-- so I am hoping it is the DVD itself and not the SuperDrive.
4)Also-- I tried to do audio CD burn-- just to make sure about the drive-- all was successful and I did a back up of my Itunes files-- 6 CDs they burned (they meaning "the Gods of Mac OS" ;-0 My audio CDs are Office Depot CD-R 52X700mb/ So the generic is better for CDs on my Emac that I know;-)
So I will use my weekend to try other DVDs-- and I have the safety net of Apple Care-- but then just realized-- my Extended Care plan is OVER at May 30, 2007!!! I called to ask to EXTEND it further-- I'll pay whatever-- NOPE-- 3 years was max on this contract. So any repairs I have to pay for after May 30th-- ISN'T THAT JUST THE WAY THE WORLD GOES? The DAY after your warranty on AnYTHING-- the thing goes kablooey?
But I still have days left--- and I know of a good Mac Repair person in area-- but it is just so darn difficult to move my desktop Emac (I got the GLASS monitor to save $300 or something) Weight Lifting is what it is-- weighs about 45lbs or more.
But it seems it may be the media I am using if the CD burner is working, right?
