What is an OSStatus error -49

We are using Roxio Easy VHS to DVD for Mac and it works fine until we try to record more than a couple of minutes of tape.  Several times we have let the whole tape run and it records it but when we stop the recording and finish we get the message:
"OSStatus error -49 Try to change the destination folder in the preference window"
Can anyone tell me what this means?
We have changed the destination folder several times before recording starts and it makes no difference.
Thanks

Error -49 is a Carbon error. It means, "file already open with write permission". A file cannot be allowed to be opened with write permission by more than one process. I've no clue why it occurs. As ds store says, you need to contact Roxio.

What is an osstatus error 54 in iPhoto?

and the other part of my question?
and where is your iPhoto Library stored?
The error message is a permissions error. Either iPhoto cannot open the file or cannot find it. I am seeing this error message when copying iPhoto libraries or any packages usually, when one of the drives in question is formatted incorrectly (the file system is not MacOS Extended (Journaled)), or when the package contains unreadable files. Or one of the file names may contain invisible, illegal characters.  Make sure, the "Ignore Ownership" flag is set on any external drives in question, to avoid permission problems and make sure the file system is correct  on all drives.
And (OSStatus error -54.) is usually a first warning, when a drive starts to fail. So make sure, you do not delete any backups, you may need them.
If your file system is correctly formatted as MacOS Extended (Journaled) and the Database rebuild correctly, but the videos still do not play, it might be a problem of a missing Cache file, typically caused by apps that clean caches, etc, to clean your Mac. On MacOS X 10.8.5 has been a problem with videos in some cases, when cleaning applications cleaned a certain cache, and a helper file was missing, that may be necessary to play videos. That problem still persists with Yosemite.
To make videos play again it helped to rebuild the cache using a Terminal command:
Try this fix posted by andyBall_UK:
Open a Terminal window (the Terminal.app is in Applications > Utilities)
Copy and paste the line below into the Terminal window, hit return  and enter your administrator password.
    sudo /usr/libexec/xpchelper --rebuild-cache
If you do not want to use a Terminal command you can achieve the same thing by booting into recovery and reinstalling the system on top of your current system - don't wipe the drive before you do it. Reinstalling on top of the current system should suffice: OS X: About OS X Recovery

  • What is an OSStatus error -61 error?

I am getting an OSStatus error -61 message when i try to burn a slide show from IPhoto 11 to a DVD?

    According to this
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1618
    it's a Write Permissions Error.
How are you trying to burn a Slideshow from iPhoto? Usually I would expect that you would export to the Finder and try and burn from there or send it to iDVD and burn via that.

  • What is a OSStatus error -2009 in iMovie 11 when I try to export

I am trying to recompile an imovie I made a few years ago (5 years) and imported it into the new iMovie (from Movie HD). But I cannot export the movie, it instaed pops up with the error above.

The problem with write permissions for the OneDrive folder only shows up in Lightroom 6's export dialogue, that's why it's to irritating. Lightroom 5.7.1 is not having that problem nor does the file explorer. The problem also exists on both of my machines. I will try to check for other problems with the OneDrive troubleshooter though: Running the OneDrive troubleshooter - Windows Help

  • In iphoto i get this error for a video that I wanted to play - The operation couldn't be completed. (OSStatus error -54.) what is that error and how to fix it?

The operation couldn’t be completed. (OSStatus error -54.)
My Apple course instructor felt it would be smart to create all in iphoto dragging in all videos and photos to one spot.
I now get these errors and they wont play.
What is the error telling me and how do I fix it and get the video to play please??
Is it true iphoto will be replaced in this New Year and if so does anyo

    No it didn't at all.
I went to the finder and saw several of the same .
When I called Apple they told me not to delete anything using the Finder… odd I thought, as that was the only way I could see the multiple videos and photos.
Do you think there is any harm in deleting from there directly if I have a good playable copy?
    Thank you both for responses.
The clips/videos some are from iPhone 4.
I opened it manually and found 4 copies of most of the same videos, same names, some with slight variations. Don't know why.
Some are titled from iphoto /Masters    don't know why that happened
Now I also have some clips with white dotted line on grey where the clip used to be? why would that occur??
In my finder there are now 97000 images. Yet I only have 22,000 in iphoto. Where are the rest located and why so many duplicates?
Have I checked a box somewhere and need to address that?
Thank you for any insight and guidance.

  • What is OSstatus error -9549 and how to solve it?

When I was using my iPhoto '09 (Version 8.1.2 (424)) to export a slideshow, I got the following error:
    The operation couldn't be completed.
    OSstatus error -9549
I've never seen this error before previously when performing similar operation. What does it mean and any solution?
    Thanks!

I have the same 9549 error condition trying to export a Display resolutions slideshow. I can reliably repeat this error. My slideshow export hasw125 still images ~4mb each and two songs ~ 6 minutes. the error is thrown near the end of the export.
    Running iPhoto '09 version 8.1.2 (424)
    OS X 10.8.5
Macbook Pro 2.2.Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
    4 GB 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM.
Would appreciate a solution or workaround. FYI I'm using iPhoto to produce this slidshow because iMovie creates objectionally jumpy transitions when using Ken Burns effects. Pretty frustrating using these Apple products to try to make a slideshow with music. If anyone has a 3rd party software app that can do the job please share that too. I'm spending too much time troubleshooting faulty Apple apps.
    Thanks.

My videos on iPhoto no longer play ... the message reads OSStatus error -54.    anyone any idea what this might mean?

    Hi Terence,
    FWIW...
I just restored my entire iPhoto library from Time Machine.  I'm running Yosemite.  After opening iPhoto for the first time after restoring the DB, it asked me to confirm my library location.  Then it proceeded to update all the thumbnails.  After this was completed, I observed what the OP reported: all photos work normally, but all videos were a.) missing thumbnails; and b.) yielding this error code when attempting to open.
HOWEVER.  Doing a Reveal in Finder showed the videos on disk, and they were playable.  After quitting iPhoto and restarting it, it *again* said it was updating thumbnails, and now all the videos both have the thumbnails and play correctly from within iPhoto.

  • What does "OSStatus error -36" mean in Time Machine?

I'm getting intermittent errors with Time Machine. It will not back up to my external HD (LaCie d2 quadra). When this happens, the external HD cannot even by ejected (by Finder or Disk Utility). I have to turn it off. When I turn it back on and run Disk Utility Repair Disk it always says that the LaCie appears OK.
    I don't know what's going on, but I'm suspecting it's the HD.
    Any help?
    The log says:
    Dec 19 12:04:56 Roy-PowerBook com.apple.backupd[31851]: Starting standard backup

Thank you. I'd already been to Pondini's TM FAQs and had suspected that the problem was corrupted files or bad media. Only DriveGenius DrivePulse has ever given me any error messages about that LaCie, and it said only that the drive had errors and needed repair ASAP. Disk Utility of course found nothing to repair. A tech at ProSoft suggested corrupted files, saying bad TM files often cannot be detected by normal means and that then the only solution is as you said: backup, reformat, and restore the LaCie.
Unfortunately, the Backups.backupdb file is about 1.5 TB and I didn't have another drive that big to back up to. Now I do, so following the directions in "Time Machine: How to transfer backups from the current backup drive to a new backup drive" I backed up the backup to a new OWC drive. (The copying took about 20 hours.)
I certainly can't trust the LaCie until I can ascertain whether the errors were caused by corrupt files or bad media. At this point, I have little idea how to do that. After the holidays, I'll look into it.

When i try to export a slideshow from Iphoto to a Ex drive as it is loading i get a OSStatus error -61 code what gives ??? plz Help.

Try to enable the "Ignore Ownership on this volume" flag:
You can set this from the "Info" panel. Select the drive in the Finder and use "File > Get Info" or press ⌘I.
Then disclose the permissions brick and unlock it (you may need to enter your admin password).
Set the "Ignore Ownership on this volume" flag.
Then try again to copy to that drive.

  • What does osstatus error -61 mean?

i have created an album in iphoto and i am trying to export to a external hardrive and keep getting osstatus error -61. help?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. That error code is: -61 wrPermErr Write permissions error; Not a publisher
The first thing I would try is to run Disk Utility and repair disk permissions. Also delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder.
If you send the slideshow to iDVD you will be able to burn the iDVD project and play it thru a TV set. If you do go thru iDVD here as some basic tips:
When ready to burn the project to disk use the File->Save as Disk Image menu option to separate the encoding process from the burn process. Mount the resulting disk image on the desktop by double clicking on it and launch DVD Player to play the project. If the disk image plays satisfactorily with DVD Player the endocding is good and you can proceed with the burn.
Burn to disc with Disk Utility or Tosat at the slowest speed available to assure the best burn quality. Always use top quality media: Verbatium, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
Another method would be to export the movie via the File->Export->Slideshow menu option and select the medium size as that's what iDVD uses. Then drag the resulting QT movie file into an open iDVD project window and continue with iDVD.
