What is "apple persistent state encryption"?

I'm having trouble with Google Chrome. It keeps asking for permission to allow info from my keychain for everything listed on my keychain. So I was looking at my  keychain and saw something I never saw before: "Apple Persistent State Encryption." I know this hasn't always been there. Besides the obvious idea of looking at what it says on Get info, is this supposed to be there? What is it really for?

Hi Michael
Used by the persistent state feature to encrypt window snapshots to ensure privacy. It is changed frequently.
I did do a get info and to tell the truth I did not understand the above info. In fact I goggled it and got no clear explanation either. Does it have to do with lion's resume feature or the full disk encryption implantation. Could you please elaborate ?
Thanks
Bob

  • What is apple's mission statement

hi im doing a design technology course and i have to design a exhibition stand for apple and i was asked by my tutor to find out what apples mission statement was for example being enviromently freindly or modern excettera if any one could help me that would be great?

Q: What is Apple's mission statement?
A: Apple ignited the personal computer revolution in the 1970s with the Apple II and reinvented the personal computer in the 1980s with the Macintosh. Today, Apple continues to lead the industry in innovation with its award-winning desktop and notebook computers, OS X operating system, and iLife and professional applications. Apple is also spearheading the digital music revolution with its iPod portable music players and iTunes online music store.

  • My Apple TV states in general menu "Activation: failed". What does that mean and how can I solve the problem?

My Apple TV states in general menu "Activation: failed". What does that mean and how can I solve the problem?

    Hello MichaMuc,
I found some steps to help resolve the "Activation: failed" error messsage you are getting on your Apple TV:
Restart your base station or router. Sometimes this is done by turning the router off for a few seconds, and then on again, but check the documentation provided by the manufacturer.
To restart your Apple TV, press and hold Menu and Menu down/scroll ( - ) for about 6 seconds and then choose Restart from the menu.
If the issue continues after restarting, reset your router or base station and Apple TV to factory settings
Reset your base station or router. Use the documentation provided by the manufacturer to reset to factory settings.
To reset your Apple TV perform a factory restore.

  • What is apple's replacement policy for a macbook pro?

Macbook Pro, 13" from Summer 2011 running Mavericks
Still under applecare, but will run out in approximately a month.
As stated above, I bought the computer in the summer. A couple months later, I took it in to the store and ended up having the logic board and entire screen replaced because there were issues with both.
This past march (2014) I took it into the store and had the hard drive cable replaced because my hard drive was "missing"
Afterwards, I was having issues with the computer shutting down randomly. I would close the lid - putting it to sleep - and then I would sometimes hear later on (not immediately afterwards) the disks start going again or the fan start blowing as if the computer was turning on again and working on something. Sometimes I would put it in my backpack and 20 minutes later take it back out and find that it was super hot and the battery had completely drained. The computer also got a lot slower. I talked with apple on the phone and the person I talked to even commented on how slow it was going as she had me open up certain things to check settings, etc. That resolved nothing so I took it in to the store. The store technicians took it and then gave me a call later and told me they found nothing wrong with it. They offered to send it in to the factory or some other repair center for a more thorough search and repair. Due to certain work circumstances, I said that I would see if things got better. A few days later, things got a lot worse and I ended up taking it to the store and having it sent out to the factory. Both times I was at the store I could see exactly what the technicians were writing down, and despite me telling them over and over again, they wrote down things that weren't really the issue. Maybe this is minor, but for example, I would tell them that my battery heated up when the computer was supposed to be asleep and it would get hot and drain completely in a very short time while it was supposed to be asleep. They would write down "battery drains quickly." They also just didn't seem to care very much - walking away and helping other people despite my appointment, etc. Well they sent it off to the factory and then shipped it back to me after replacing the logic board, battery, fan, and ram. I called apple as it was being shipped back to me and asked to talk to a manager because I thought it was rather ridiculous that my computer was having so many issues - I felt like as soon as my warranty was up it was just going to have another problem and I would end up paying for it. He to me he would extend the warranty some and he alluded to possible a possible replacement of the computer down the line if I was still having issues. The day I got the computer back, it kept trying to shut down. It froze once. I wasn't even doing much with the computer - it shouldn't have been overloaded by a long shot. I called and left a message for the manager. He called me back a couple days later and I told him what the issues were as soon as I got the computer back. However, they abated between the time I got it back and the time he called me back, so he attributed it to the fact that I had been using google chrome and said I should check my updates. I switched browsers and made sure I was updated and for a time it was ok-ish (still slow). Then I had an issue where I was copying files to my desktop. The copying went on forever and ever and my computer started freezing. I tried shutting down and I couldn't. I hit the power button and it wouldn't turn off. After forever, I finally got it to turn off and restarted. Then the random shut downs started again. And then, finally, I was left looking at a folder on a gray screen. Called the manager again and he said it was probably the hard drive cable. He said that if the cable replacement didn't fix it, we would probably be looking at replacing the computer. I took it in to the store and had it replaced. It didn't do any good. Now the manager wants me to send it to the factory again. He says that I almost had reached the amount of repair issues that would get me a new computer, but the first issues right after I got it didn't count since they weren't very recent. What is apple's policy on replacing laptops that seem to just be lemons?

We cannot answer the question nor will Apple. You will need to consult your state's lemon law to determine whether you have a case. Most likely you will need to go to arbitration. If you need to go to court you will need to hire an attorney or use small claims court if your case is eligible.
If Apple has such a policy, then only Apple knows what that policy is. So you will need to take the matter up with them through the local Apple Store.

I just got the Itunes update. So frustrating. I will be trying methods on this forum to save my library and re-install the older version of ITunes. What was Apple thinking when they developed and released this mess?

Apple is more likely to see your comments if you send feedback via:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html
    =Downgrading from iTunes 11 to iTunes 10.7=
You may be able to go back with Time Machine but this may involve restoring other items too (https://discussions.apple.com/message/20441404).  Alternatively:
Back up your computer first, in case the unexpected happens.
    Quit iTunes.
Get iTunes 10.7 from http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1576 or the direct download link at:  http://appldnld.apple.com/iTunes10/041-7195.20120912.d3uzQ/iTunes10.7.dmg
Do a few preparatory steps by making sure all iTunes components are not running and cleaning old files.   See https://discussions.apple.com/message/20475394.  Do steps 3 and 4.  Steps 6-8 may be also useful but I don't know if they are essential.  Some of the other steps are not necessary, duplicate steps listed later in my post or are perhaps even unhelpful in the process.
Replace the iTunes 11 application with iTunes 10.7.  Simply dragging the application to the trash may not work. Lion (OSX 10.7) and newer systems have iTunes integrated into the operating system and deleting is a bit more involved.  Two ways to do this are:
    1.  Use the shareware Pacifist utility (http://www.charlessoft.com/) to install iTunes 10.7 including all associated system files. Details at http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=16400819&postcount=6
    2. Check this reference on how to delete the iTunes application itself:
Delete iTunes in Mac OS X 10.7 Lion - http://osxdaily.com/2011/09/13/delete-itunes-in-mac-os-x-10-7-lion/
After deleting the application there may be other files that need downgrading too. See the note about error -42408 at the end of this post. You may want to tuck these away somewhere safe until you have completed the installation of iTunes 10.7.  I have not tested this but ideally if newer versions are not found then the installer will put in the old versions. This may include these files in /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/ which apparently get updated by iTunes 11:
    AirTrafficHost.framework
    CoreFP.framework
    DeviceLink.framework
    iTunesAccess.framework
    MobileDevice.framework
After doing one of the two procedures above you will have to rescue the most recent old iTunes library from your iTunes > Previous Libraries folder. Rename it "iTunes Library.itl"  and replace the existing one in the iTunes folder. A newer version of iTunes irreversibly updates your library file so you have to replace it with the old one or you will get an error message. Note, this will revert your library to the version at the time of the upgrade and you will have to update any changes made since.  See:
https://discussions.apple.com/message/20401436 - turingtest2 11/2012 post on rebuilding empty/corrupt library from previous iTunes library file after upgrade/crash.

Alternatively, check https://discussions.apple.com/message/20441424 which requires you have a Time Machine backup (though possibly if you remove the newer version of these files old ones may be installed with the iTunes 10.7 installer - untested).  A  variant of this is at: https://discussions.apple.com/message/20448184

So, we're the "stupid ios users" yet you are the one posting a link to something that simply says what we all said here?
"Starting May 1, new apps and app updates submitted to the App Store must be built for iOS devices with Retina display and iPhone apps must also support the 4-inch display on iPhone 5. Learn about preparing your apps by reviewing the iOS"
What part of that statement in your link do you not get?  App developers will or will not make those changes, not Apple.  It is entirely possible some apps will never get updated for retina, as their developers will drop those products and move on to new ones.  Yes, Apple may set certain minimum standards and requirements for inclusion of anyone's app in their storefront (as I already said), but it is entirely up to the developers to actually implement those changes.  Complaining on an Apple forum that a particular developer chose not to is pointless and a waste of everyone's time.

  • What is Apple's substtute for Adobe Flash Player on iPad?

What is Apple's substtute for Adobe Flash Player on iPad?

Until Adobe can develop a version of Flash that works for mobile devices that is stable and doesn't hog memory resources or ***** up battery life, there isn't much anyone can do about this!
Android devices claiming to run Flash are having these issues, too. Steve Jobs and Apple simply won't allow Adobe Flash to with their mobile hardware/software with the state of affairs with Flash, now. If Adobe has a breakthrough and can develop a version of Flash or some sort a content providing software that works and plays well with mobile devices and platforms, the situation may change. For the foreseeable future, Flash is going to be absent on current and future Apple mobile devices.
On another note, PPC Macs are obsolete technology that is, at least 6 years old. OS X 10.5 was the last Mac operating system to still support PPC Mac architecture. This OS is , at least, 3 years old. OS X 10.4 Tiger is, at least 5 years old.
You can't expect either Apple or Adobe,or any hardware/software manufacturer/developer, at this time, to keep supporting older technologies. Especially, anything 5 or 6 years old or more. It's just not cost effective or practical.
Technology marches on. There are many of us, probably, still using PPC Macs, including myself. We're all in the same boat.
At some point, we're going to have to play catch up to the latest and greatest to be able to stay current on the grid and to be current with new technologies, hardware, and software.
I do not think this is a rational reason to jump ship on a company who, arguably, makes the best technology hardware/software integrated devices and computers in the world.

  • What would apple do if my ipod touch is broken and is still under warranty?

What would apple do if my ipod touch is broken and is still under warranty?

It depends on how it was broken. Apple are very strict when it comes to enforcing warrantys so unless the damage was a result of a manufacturing error then you have little chance of having your device replaced or serviced without having to pay a fee.
    The warranty states that Apple do not cover;
damage resulting from accident - ie. accidentally dropping it
    liquid damage
    disassembly
unauthorised service - ie. trying to fix the hardware yourself
    unauthorised modifications - ie. "jailbreaking"

  • What is Apple's official line on hand-cut nano-SIMs?

I use local SIM cards whenever I travel and I never pay roaming charges. The downside is that I need to obtain a new SIM card for each new country that I visit.
Whilst many carriers now issue nano-SIMs, there are some who still don't or they make it difficult for prepaid customers. I'm getting a bit fed up with ordering or buying a nano-SIM (which should be 12.30x8.80x0.67mm) but receiving a hand-cut nano-SIM (which is 12.30x8.80x0.76mm), i.e. 13% thicker than it should be. Although 0.76mm-thick SIM cards can be forced into an iPhone 5, they don't go in easily and I've read reports they can get stuck so it wouldn't surprise me if this invalidates the iPhone 5's warranty.
Some examples of offending networks are:
O2 Czech Republic - despite the advice on their web site, many of their shops use SIM-cutters to create a 0.76mm-thick SIM card for prepaid customers.
LycaMobile and Toggle Mobile - one of the fastest growing prepaid MVNOs in many developed countries, with prices very suitable for short-term visitors to a country. If you order a nano-SIM, they send you a hand-cut 0.76mm-thick SIM card.
What is Apple's official line on using hand-cut nano-SIMs? It would be useful to quote a knowledgebase article to the errant carriers.

Apple will support only SIMs that are manufactured in the correct size appropriate for the iPhone model. They will, as Tim said, instruct you to get a valid, correct SIM from your cell carrier should you have any problems with an iPhone that is using a cut-down SIM. And if a cut-down SIM causes damage to the iPhone, that will most likely void the warranty on the iPhone. The warranty statement has terms that exclude coverage for damage resulting from use of other products or caused by the user. So from that standpoint they have an "official position", if you wish to consider it as such.
    Regards.

  • Please help me........for writing enititybean with persistent state

I am new person in ejb, actually i am working on one module where ejb deployment
is there in websphere 4.0 with oracle database ,where as my module form is just retrieving
data from database for user but doest not create it.So according to sun specification
entity bean should have create() and findByPrimaryKey() methods but in my case i have to
just retrieve data i.e findByAllData(). Here i am passing a parameter institute_id,
which is not a primarykey in this table which retrives records under that particular institute id
but in my case entitybean doesn't initialize to any particular
primary id since create() method is not existing in my bean so container doesn't
have any account of primary key.So now it won't store the data in persistent
state in the container because of none of the create() method for primarykey. But
we want to store the data in entity bean in the appliaction server in the persistent
state so how it can be done.

Apple does not provide insurance and they are not law enforcement.
