What is/are the keyboard shortcut if I want to pull down a menu item?

What is the keyboard command to pull down a finder menu item? Say I want
to browse the finder menus, without a mouse?

Although that's listed in the document, It does nothing on my machine and it is enabled in Keyboard Shortcuts. So, if you know the steps to get it working, that would be appreciated. Wired, extended Apple keyboard.
EDIT: Need CONTROLfnF2, which requires two hands, to make it work. IMO, it's much asier to just use the mouse.

  • Where are the keyboard shortcuts listed?

all of them - does anyone know? when i go to view>keyboard shorcuts 75% of them are bland - where are the ones that are default? i bought the sandee cohen book and NO Keyboard chart is in it - seems like a big oversight to me
    thanks

    > Bob - thanks, i'll work on that when i'm not rushing on a job (as i am now)
The few minutes it takes to install the plugin is a good investment. You
can search for features (like type "scale") and it will show you all the
keyboard shortcuts associated with that feature.

  • Are the keyboard shortcuts customizable?

Just wondering if it's possible to customize the keyboard shortcuts, though I highly doubt it's possible...

Yes and no. You have to hack.
I put an article on my blog on how to swap the 0 and 9 keys on the numeric keypad in a painless way, but to do more you have to dig into XML files. Look for Make Zero The Reject Key Again in the Aperture Tips section.

  • What are the keyboard shortcut for aligning objects?

    Hello guys,
I know this is a simple question.  However, I cannot find a quick answer.  I see people using Actions - is this the only way?
    Thanks!

It's not the only way. But it's the only way using keyboard shortcuts.
    Pretty mediocre, indeed.

  • What would be the best way to have a man pull down a (AE CS6 designed) banner?

I have keyed footage of a guy pantomiming pulling down a banner, but I can't for the life of me get it to look right.... He is using both hands, facing the camera he reaches up and pulls it down, I am trying to make it look slightly realistic, with wrinkles and warping near the hands... I've tracked points on his hands, and have parented two Nulls to them...
I was trying to using something like Zaxwerks Warps, or Flags, but I can't get it to accomplish what I'm going for...
How would you go about doing something like this?
    Thanks all!

Forge Freeform comes to mind first because I use it a lot. I'd use a displacement map that instead of trying to animate a mesh.
I'd also shoot some footage of someone grabbing something similar so you can judge how it should look. Even a quick movie shot with a phone of someone grabbing a towel would give you a sample to look at. If shooting test footage of each other out behind the studio was good enough for Disney animators working on Snow White it's good enough for me.

  • What are the keyboard shortcuts to display on external monitor

    Hi
how can i get my laptop to export the image to an external monitor?
I have a MB Pro, and have tried DVI to HDMI direct cable, the supplied DVI-D cable connected to VGA cable and no luck.
the screen on my laptop is flickering and I want to use the external monitor.
    Any advice appreciated.
    Tks

The typical method is to just plug it in.
If you are using Mini DisplayPort, the adapter must be right at the Mini DisplayPort end, you cannot convert to VGA halfway down the cable.
DVI and Mini DVI provide computer-generated VGA at the computer connector, in the bar at one end and the four pins around it, plus one more from the top row of the grid.
The biggest problem with HDMI is that the display must be "paying attention" and ready to answer when the Mac queries for the name and capabilities.
If your internal display works at all, this can tell you whether the external display has been detected:
    About This Mac > ( More info ) > Report > Graphics & Displays

  • How customizable are the keyboard shortcuts?

I want to be able to use just an F key as a shortcut key instead of Alt + 0. When I try to do that, the program tells me this command requires an Alt + key for that shortcut. Is there a workaround?

    >satisfaction guaranteed.
Hmm... I suspect not. I can tell you why it's not possible and, I think, even why that is - although you probably won't like it.
The problem is that because you are opening a new window, which would inevitably change the window focus on the screen (possibly at an embarrassing moment), Adobe thinks that you need to make this a deliberate act, rather than something you just 'knock' by accident. So if you try to allocate an individual single key - which you'd think that you ought to be able to do - then you get a message saying that at a bare minimum, you need to use the Alt key as well as what you've chosen.
You can't even cheat and make it a favourite, because that won't work in MV (even if you could get it to work in a script at all, that is).
So, welcome to the Adobe Nanny State. See? I
    said you wouldn't like it!

  • Why are the keyboard shortcuts for new window and new tab (N) and (W) instead of (W) and (T) when I right-click on bookmarks in my toolbar?

If I right click on a link in a page, the context menu allows me to open a new tab if I hit t on my keyboard and a new window if I hit w. In the bookmarks menu, these shortcuts change to w and n respectively. Hitting t results in deletion of the bookmark. Can this be changed so it is consistent with the in-page context menu?

You can middle-click a link to open the link in a new tab.

  • Where are the Keyboard Shortcuts for Acrobat X?

In Acrobat 9 I could delete a page by keying Alt - D - X. I could insert pages by keying Alt - D- N - F. Can I not do this kind of thing in Acrobat X?
    George Sullivan

Dave, thanks for the answer. It is quite helpful. I just wonder why Adobe chose to change the menu in such a way that negates all previous habits that have been built. Acrobat, to me, is primarily a "paper" manager. And to the extent that is complicated it makes my work more difficult.
Check out my other problem post with Acrobat X. It is titled "Default Page Size Not Retained". This one is causing a lot of inconvenience also.

  • Keynote crashing when using the keyboard shortcut to play the presentation

This has happened twice to me now in the last two days. I haven't been using Keynote regularly, but will be giving more lectures at uni, so hope this is something that can be solved. Each time Keynote crashed, I had an unsaved Word document but when my macbook restarted, the word document was still there, and the keynote presentation was gone. Is there any way to auto-save keynote presentations, and no, I don't have a time capsule yet.
    Thanks, Derek

It is more of because when your keyboard shortcut is set to that, the command given to the computer is only to shutdown the default way, which Apple made it to reopen windows when logging back in. And when u said that it was a preference to reopening windows when logging back in, it is not a preference. It is more of a question whether u want to reopen when u are shutting down/restarting your computer.
I also have a similar problem, but it is not about the keyboard shortcuts. I want to create a program to help restart into bootcamp, but when I restart back into Mac OS, it helps reopen the windows.

In Leopard and later, the following keys can be held down while selecting an area (via Command-Shift-4 or Command-Control-Shift-4):
Space, to lock the size of the selected region and instead move it when the mouse moves
Shift, to resize only one edge of the selected region
Option, to resize the selected region with its center as the anchor point

  • What is the keyboard shortcut to sleep display on the Macbook Air?

On my Macbook Pro it's ctrl-shift-eject. There is no eject button on the Macbook Air so what is it?
Yes I know about Hot Corners. Yes I know you can turn the brightness right down. I want the keyboard shortcut.

Sorry for being a Johnny-Come-Lately to this thread, but I just found it.
I do not like using a Hot Corner (alone) because it is too easy to inadvertently sleep the screen by random movement of the the cursor. However, there is a solution....
You can add a "modifier key" (e.g., the "Command" key) to the hot corner sequence so that moving the cursor to the chosen hot corner does NOT sleep the screen unless you also push and hold the modifier key.
To add a modifier key, open "System Preferences", go to "Desktop & Screen Saver", choose the "Screen Saver" tab, and click on "Hot Corners…". Open the dropdown for the corner you prefer. Before clicking "Put Display to Sleep" hold down the Command key (or another modifier key*)  and then click "Put Display to Sleep".
Voilà! Now the display will sleep only if you hold down the Command key before moving the cursor to the chosen Hot Corner.
*I believe the only modifier keys available for this are Shift, Control, Option and Command -- you can use any one of them or combinations.

  • What is the keyboard shortcut for extract page?

There used to be a series of keyboard shortcuts for page manipulation (and other) - using acrobat 9 till recently. Now new to Acrobat XI Pro (Windows 8.1). I can see the shortcuts for insert & delete page but not for extract page (and other). Am I missing something? The keyboard shortcuts are a must for speed and a healthy right wrist.
    Thank-you for your time.

There isn't a direct way of doing it, but you can "hack" it using a script. Create a folder-level script with this code:
app.addMenuItem({cName: "MyExtractPages", cUser: "E&xtract Pages", cParent: "Edit",
        cExec: "app.execMenuItem(\"ExtractPages\");", cEnable: "event.rc = (event.target!=null)"});
This will add a new menu item to the Edit menu which you could access using the following keyboard shortcut: Alt+E, X

  • What is the keyboard shortcut for changing dictation language in Yosemite?

I can't find the keyboard shortcuts to change the dictation language in Mac OS X?
I would really appreciate if someone help me with this problem. I work with two languages and I really can't find any way to do that.
    Thanks for your help guys

Until the developer can release dictationswitcher compatible with Yosemite, here is an AppleScript that will toggle between two languages. After it switches, it will speak which language has been set. Currently, the spoken text is in English (United States). This script will work on Yosemite and Mavericks. Tested.
What you need to do to get this to work.
Add your alternative language to the Dictation Language pop-up.Set your languages in the AppleScript property strings exactly as they appear in the Dictation Language Menu.
Copy/Paste the following AppleScript into your Script Editor (/Applications/Utilities).
    Click the hammer (compile) button
Save once as File format text (dictation.applescript) - don't hide the extension, or check any of the checkboxes.
Option+Save As… File format Application to your Desktop. Hide the extension, and check no other checkboxes.
The first time that you run this application, you will receive a dialog box just like the one below (I changed the name back to dictation):
Click Open System Preferences. Click on the gold lock button in the lower left corner. The Accessibility category will be selected, but the dictation application in the list of apps will be unchecked. Check it, and then click the gold lock again. Quit out of the dictation application on your Desktop, and run it again. If you happen to get another dialog indicating that it still does not have permission, revisit the System Preferences > Security & Privacy panel, and under the Privacy tab > Accessibility, uncheck the dictation application, and then recheck it again. Quit System Preferences. This happened to me, and following this second action allowed it to work properly.
Future releases of OS X may impact this application if Apple changes the order of the UI elements.
I modified this AppleScript from an Apple StackExchange post by qegal in 2012.
Copy/Paste the following AppleScript into your Yosemite Script Editor per the above instructions.
property defaultLang : "English (United States)"
    property altLang : "German (Germany)"
-- property altLang : "French (France)"
tell application "System Events" to set p to (path to frontmost application) as string
         tell application "System Preferences"
         activate
reveal anchor "Dictation" of pane "com.apple.preference.speech"
         end tell
         tell application "System Events"
              tell process "System Preferences"
tell pop up button 1 of tab group 1 of window "Dictation & Speech"
                        click
                        try
if (get value of attribute "AXValue") contains defaultLang then
click menu item altLang of menu 1
say "Dictation set to " & altLang
else if (get value of attribute "AXValue") contains altLang then
click menu item defaultLang of menu 1
say "Dictation set to " & defaultLang
                             end if
                       on error errmsg number errnbr
tell process "System Preferences" to if it is running then quit
display alert altLang & "not configured in Dictation Languages, please add." as critical giving up after 10
                       end try
                   end tell
           end tell
    end tell
    quit application "System Preferences"
    activate application p
