I am comparing the new style with my old curve 8520, and the curve has got a dedicated media key , and the style dosn´t . But what is this dedicated media key ????

  • Media Keys stopped working after upgrading to Yosemite. Tried several things, what to do?

    I have a Late 2013 Mac Book Pro. After upgrading to Yosemite, my media keys (F7-F12) seemed to be working funny. They worked sometimes but not during others. A simple web search seems to indicate that Chrome is the culprit which I believe is the case. However, the instructions to disable Chrome from messing with the media keys does not seem to work (as my version of Chrome does not seem to have preferences to allow me to turn off its access to the function keys). The make things weirder, when System Preferences > Keyboard has the "Function Keys" option turned on, the media keys do not work (in fact F11 clears the screen to show the desktop). And when the option is turned off, the media keys work normally as though they are turned on. Additionally, when F11 and F12 are pressed (to lower/raise the volume), it no longer plays "test sound clicks" to indicate the changed volume. I have tried a PRAM reset to no avail.
    Any help is appriciated.

    For my hard drive that doesn't show up at all, the problem is not Yosemite per se. It's the USB3 driver incompatibility. Try using a USB2 cable (micro USB just like an android charger cable that plugs in half of the slot on your hard drive) and it will work. Or try connecting it to an older computer that has USB2 ports on it (with the original USB3 cable) and it will work BOTH on Yosemite and Mavericks. Of course it will transfer data at USB2 speeds. Apple screwed up the drivers again so we have to wait for them to 1. receive thousands of complaints 2. wait for eternity to acknowledge there's an issue. 3. take their sweet time fixing the USB3 drivers. Until then you can get by with USB2 cables. I hope this helps!

    I work for a company which makes .mov files, which is embedded with quicktime movies,So my computer at work has all the media keys fed to the quicktime by me....
    The problem is it keeps disappearing once a day ...which results me in entering them again ...which is a pain entering
    Anybody have any idea why this is happening .....

    I thought I will provide more information about my issue which will give explain the issue a bit better
    The company I work for makes movies (AVI) and put them in our custom software as .mov and sell it,Which is converted to .mov and encoded using media keys through Sorenson Squeeze..(This is done on a separate system dedicated for the use of Squeeze)
    So if we have to play them in my computer, where we make these movies I embedded the corresponding keys in quicktime media keys section in order for them to play.
    So the movies plays no issues
    But,The issue is Once I installed the software it doesnt work, Let me explain how our software licenses the keys.
    Our software which consist of all the movies with different media keys plays in any computer without these keys since the software comes with an usb key ( which has these keys embedded in them)
    I installed the software in my computer which already has media keys in the computer and also the usbkey plugged in inorder for the software to run without any issues...
    So every time the software loads it loads they movie file to quicktime(inside the software) and then removes the keys from the Quicktime ..since it already has the keys in the usb.
    ( To my understanding it is not suppose to remove the media keys no matter what)
    I am not sure if quicktime is destined to do this or is there any way to fix this issue

  • Media Keys Not Working - Apple Wireless Keyboard - Snow Leopard 10.6

    Hello, I am a new user to this Support Area and i tried calling but as its Christmas Day i cant get through because there closed so i decided to join here.
    Ok basically my problem is that i have a iMac and i recently installed Snow Leopard and on Christmas Day i got a Wireless Apple Keyboard i set it up all went well and got through all the bluetooth process fine except when i went to try use the Media Keys which are Brightness Up/Down, Volume Control, Play/Pause/FastForward and the other two don't know what there called tho when i press any of them they dont work when i press F12 which has a picture of Volume Up it goes to my Widgets thing and when i press F11 which is Volume Down it moves all the current apps out of the desktop like a clearing space function.
    I Really would like to have the Media Keys back to how there supposed to be i don't know why it is doing this but i think its Snow Leopard.I Have tried everything possible in System Prefs even removed the keyboard from the Bluetooth paired devices and re paired it but still nothing. It would be mostly appreciated if one you guys could help me soon..

    Wow! I am in the exact same situation. I don't think it is Snow Leopard tho b/c when I plug my old keyboard back in the media keys work fine. It might have to do with the apple aluminum keyboard 2.0 update but when I try to download that it says my system is unable to support it (eben tho it only requires at least 10.5.8).
    If you find a solution let me know.

    My media keys used to work to play, pause, skip forward/backward, etc. in Spotify, and other applications when Spotify is running. Suddenly, my media keys have no effect.
    A more detailed description, using numbered steps
    1. Open Spotify
    2. Start playing music
    3. Click my "Play/Pause" media key
    What I expected to happen
    Music pauses, and resumes upon another click

    I don't have google music neither, my problem started after the first time running Windows Media Player in Windows 8.1, and after that every time I press the media keys it opens WMP.
    I already desactivated WMP from the control panel but it doesn't work the media keys for now...
    Also I saw a video that in Win 7 they go to msconfig and unselect the service from there but I don't find it in Win 8.1
    Any other guess???

    Marlon I don't believe it is hardware problem. To be honest best way to fix this and test the functionality is to install OS again using Toshiba recovery image. After doing this you will have factory settings and clean preinstalled Vista and everything should work properly again.
    You can start installation from HDD using F8 at start-up. All data saved on second partition will be there and you will not lose them.

  • Media Key Problem - N95 V31.0.017

    Hi,
    after updating my N95 to version 31.0.017 some strange thing happened - all shortcuts in the main window didn't work. so i restored factory defaults and all is well.
    Except:
    when pressing the media key, the icons load and the sound plays but as soon as it is supposed to load the background (fuzzy picture of someone and the sky) the menu closes and returns to the phone regular wait screen.
    What to do?

    Happens to my N82, too - the Multimedia menu closes immediately after opening. Happens by no obvious reason (though I've noticed that most often the bug occurs after playing MP3s). A phone restart fixes the things, though. Does restart help you? If not, you can write to Nokia and let them knwo of the problem (I think I've sent them an e-mail). Though it will not directly help you, it might urge them to release an update

  • Media Keys working/Volume keys broken

    I used to use MultiPlugin by localhost to make the media keys on my keyboard work when iTunes was minimized. This worked great. When I updated iTunes to 7.1, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the media keys worked fully without any plugins. However, after using my computer for a few hours I found that the volume keys performed a "double press" when I was only pressing the buttons once. What happens is that when I try to mute/unmute the system the volume will be muted and immediately unmuted or vice versa. I have narrowed this problem down to iTunes, seeing as when I stop running iTunes, the keys work fine. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.

  • Gnome shell, media keys and strange X11 cursor bihaviour

    Hi guys,
    I'm new in this forum, but old arch-user. This time I'm experimenting a really strange issue.
    I have a lot of packages installed (pacman, but AUR too), and I tried some beta packet, so I don't know if this issues is caused by me, or is a sort of out-of-the-box, but this is what happens:
    During Gnome-Shell session (3.16.2 actually), if I press any media keys (my keyboard has prev-next song, play/pause, stop, vol up-down) my cursor goes hidden (all works, but I can't see pointer). If I'm in empty desktop (no opened window), after 20~50pixel in any direction I can meet again my mouse. Instead, if I have some windows open...random behavior...cursor could reappear after 50pixel mouse movement, or it could stay hidden after 4-5Kpixel. The only way to get cursor again in short time is go to gnome overview (the function linked with super key or upper-left corner, by default).
    Additional strange facts:
    - mouse is working all the time (link is focused, button is pressed, focus follow mouse event, and so on...)
    - seems gnome top bar get same effect as empty desktop (20~50pixel and cursor is visible again)
    - if I link key combination with media function (Ctrl + Up/Down for volume, for example), everything goes well
    - I have a secondary bluetooth keyboard with same media keys, but this peripheral is not affected by this issue
    Any additional informations will be provided, but first, I did my homework:

    Got is sorted myself.
    I installed KDE which worked perfectly. Then went about trying to install chromium. After installing and trying to launch chromium I noticed it would just hand unless launched by root (terminal).
    Which led me to check permissions under /home.
    Turns out that somehow my /home/{me}/.config directory was owned by root:root  . A simple chown -R ~/.config  and a reinstall of gnome got everything working fine 
    NB: maybe someone with more insight can figure how/why ~/.config was owned by root from a fresh install and setup of systemd ??

  • Media Keys not working

    For some reason my media keys (play/pause/fwd/rwd) on my aluminiu keyboard have stopped working.
    When I first got the keyboad they didn't work... I installed KeyboardSoftware1.2 and they started working.
    But, I'm not sure when or how, they have stopepd working again.
    All the other keys (Expose, Brightness etc) work fine.
    I have tried reinstalling 10.5.8 combo, repairing permissions, booting in safe mode, repairing disc (from instal dvd), installing and uninstalling sizlingkeys (this allowed me to apply custom settings to other keys, but not to the media keys)....nothing helped!
    I can't reinstall the KeyboardSoftware update... as it thinks itis already installed... I tried to bypass it with Pacifist, and this caused a right mess (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2360985&stqc=true) which I still haven't sorted either.
    Any ideas??

    I took the plunge and did a full Archive & Instal (without copying my files/settings over).
    This solved both the Media/Play keys issues... and the weird Save dialogue issue.

    However, I consider this as a work around, as I never really found out what caused the issues in the first place!
    Oh well....
    The only reason I held off doing the Archive and Install in the first place is because it is quite time consuming, especially with a heavily customised Library folders... and I just didn't want to go through the hassle of reinstalling everything!
    Hmmm... at least it is sorted.
    I guess I should probably get a new graphics card as well due to that error that showed...?

  • [SOLVED] mplayer, xF86 media keys

    Hi,
    mplayer is my software of choice for playing music. That's what I would like to do with it: bind some of the xF86 keys to move to the next/previous music -- instead of going to the terminal where mplayer is originally running and use the keys < / > to move between tracks.
    However, after some search, I couldn't find a script/command that I could bind to the xF86 keys that allows me to do this. Is there such a command I could use?

    Create a pipe
    mkfifo mplayer.pipe
    start mplayer like so
    mplayer -slave -input file=mplayer.pipe
    now you can send commands to this fifo, for example:
    echo "pt_step 1" > mplayer.pipe
    echo "pt_step -1" > mplayer.pipe
    for next song/previous song.

  • N95 media Keys not lighting up after v2 update

    Hi Folks
    i just updated my phone last night to the latest firmware and what made me pleased the most was it sorted out the problems between the phone and my intergrated Bluetooth kit in my 2007 Ford Focus, nokia tried to blame ford even though its their module in the car!
    anyway i have noticed that after this update when you move the slider to expose the media keys and turn the phone into a media player it doesnt automatically bring up the multimedia menu, great i thought! as the phone is in my pocket a lot it goes off whenever it gets slid down now it wont happen.
    more worringley is that the media keys dont light up anymore! not when you move the slider or when you press them or open any program that uses them, its pretty annoying actually and they were working before the update, anyone had similar problems?

    regarding the 8GB version, mine is silver but came with a 8GB memory card from o2 UK would that not make it the 8GB version?
    No,i have exact same phone as you,N95-1 with 8gb memcard but the firmware is way behind.N95 8GB has V20.0.015 as standard fw
    for lighta isue,check in tools,settings,general,personalisation,,display,and look where theslider is for the light sensor,,if its low tweak it up a bit...keypad lights only work when light sensor detects a little light,so at midday,lights wont light up anyway,dont need to..energy saving i guess...check these and get back to me m8

  • Power management & media keys Compiz standalone

    Hello everyone
    Just made the full time switch to Arch a week or so ago, have to say it's the best Linux experience I've had! Loving it!
    So I've got it set up using Compiz as a standalone WM with tint2 for navigation. I was curious if anyone could suggest a decent power manager?
    I mainly need this to actually be able to tell my system to shutdown/reboot, right now I've just been using the shell to compensate. I have the gnome-settings-daemon running for gtk management if that opens up more options for me It'd also be handy perhaps having the ability to manage my session, I've been using pkill and it's getting a bit tedious...
    Also, I use the Apple aluminium keyboard with my system which has playback keys (back, play/pause,forward) and volume keys. Right now the only means I have of managing my system's audio output is to use alsamixer, which is somewhat cumbersome. As the gnome-settings-daemon is running, I get the HUD to notify me of the volume change, so I just need some way of managing my volume conveniently. I thought I might be able to do this with the 'commands' module in compiz, but couldn't find any command to suit my needs.

    *!EDIT!* : Okay I figured out the media keys myself. Whilst I looked for a suitable media player for my music, I stumbled upon sonata, once installed one of it's optional installs was 'dbus-python', which I already had on my system, it's comment stated something along the lines of 'function for media keys', so I added it 'dbus-python' to my xinitrc and it worked!
    Chuffed with this, but, I'd still appreciate some advice on a power/session manager
    *!EDIT 2!* : Right, my edit above did work for the volume keys, however I'm still unable to use the playback keys on the keyboard
