What's your OC doing for you?

I don't really consider myself a die-hard overclocker and although I am pleased to have a cpu that seems to have no objection to it, I am wondering as to what benefit you have found in it. Other than just the fun of tinkering and such, what is your overclock doing for you in practical terms? Is it providing the necessary fps boost in a certain game or does it cut down on your encoding time?
Please share what your benefit is!!!

Both gaming and encoding time.
Not that I care honestly but I'm usually the 1st person in the next map of a game of BF2. When dumping the money for these modern video cards you need a fast CPU to feed the video card info, sadly this requires a fast CPU. With the $300-400 or more spent on the video card it doesn't leave much left over for the CPU. The OC turns the $150 CPU into a $800 dollar one.
As for encoding, every frame per sec is nice. I use to have dual Athlon MP 2800+ CPU's on an Asus A7M266-D for it, but there weren't that many SMP apps for encoding. (Man those AMD 760 chipsets were starving the CPU for bandwidth for encoding, slow single channel DDR feeding 2 CPU's... ) Of course as soon as I ditched it SMP has picked up steam with dual core.
I still use Intel for encoding. P4 Prescott 2.8E at 3.3 on good ole Asus P4C800-E delx, 1GB RAM at 236Mhz, and 6 drive SCSI RAID 0.
and AMD for gaming. Which is the MSI rig in my sig.
Finally and maybe the most important. I get alot of the enjoyment from the OC from just doing it and hanging out with clowns like you guys . Been overclocking since the first Pentium's and K5's, old habits die hard and I just like pushing it.

Disabling (turning off) a font will make it unavailable for use in any font menu. You can alwasy enable the font(s) again - they're not gone permanantly. DON'T disable System fonts, though -> that's just asking for trouble.

VLANs for multiple customers on the same switch accessing ISP

I have multiple customers accessing the Internet from the same ISP through the same SRW 2016. The switch is set completely at default, with all ports on VLAN 1. I want to separate all the (3) customers' traffic into 3 VLANs for security, but I want them to still access the ISP through port 1. Can I do that with this switch? How would I set port 1 so that all VLANs can send and receive packets through port 1 but still be isolated from each other on the LAN?

I had a simular situation. In the past I didn't have a VLAN-capable modem/router and just connected the modem as a normal device to the layer2 switch (Cisco 3548XL at that time). In my setup, I gave all separated LAN's its own multi-VLAN port(s) in its own unique VLAN and the modem a single-VLAN port in its own VLAN. Next I made all the ports who needed internet access member of the modem's VLAN. A nmap scan and testing showed me that the seperated LAN's couldn't connect to eachother.
So, I don't know if i did something stupid (in security way), but it worked like a charm.

To explore this further, using your computer's browser log into icloud.com and look at the contacts page.
1) If contacts are missing there as well, then some device is deleting contacts and the changes are affecting the icloud database. Also the iPad would not be connecting to icloud since it still has those contacts.
2) If contacts are all there, then the iphone is not syncing with icloud, and the iphone has a problem.
If #1 is true, then are you sure no one else (a family member, friend, etc.) is using your icloud account on their computer/device? If no one is, then I suspect user error on the iphone.

I am currently trying to make an application for Kinect for Windows v2 but I am entirely new to Visual Studio and Kinect development and could use some help getting started. I honestly have no idea where or how to start and I figured the easiest thing would
be to obtain a simple project file and examine how it works myself, but I have been unable to find one. The easiest thing would be if I could obtain a project file for Visual Studio that is an application which overlays the Skeletal model over people in real
time, though similar project files would also be appreciated. The app I am making largely involves things similar to overlaying the skeletal model on bodies so this would get me off to a great start and show me how the code is laid out within visual studio
simultaneously. (I would prefer the code to be in C# if that is possible but other languages also work).
I have checked out some of the guides for kinect development but they all assume you know how visual studio works so I cannot get very far in them. Thus if you know of a good guide to get me started with visual stuido AND the Kinect then I would be glad
to here that as well.
Alternatively, and I know this is not the right place for this, I have Matlab, which I know works for the Kinect v1 but can't find support for it regarding the v2, so if you could point me in the right direction on how to get it to work with the Kinect v2
THAT would also work incredibly well as I am much more familiar with Matlab.
I already have Visual Studio Ultimate 2013 installed, as well as the Kinect SDKv2.0, the physical Kinect for Windows v2, and my laptop meets all of the requirements for development so those are not issues.

Verizons lack of concern for its customers after Update Fiasco

I, like many of you have recently gone through the fiasco that is the last update. I was awakened at 2am by my phones repeated bootloop. After 4 days of trying to get this straight with Verizon Support they finally told me it was an HTC issue and their was nothing they could do until HTC fixed it. They then referred me to do a Google search for the various forums to see if anyone else had a solution.
What I finally had to do was a Factory Reset. Now the phone works almost as it did before. I say almost as now it seems to be faster when I turn it on or when I shut it down.
Now my biggest problem, is that I want to be compensated for the time lost that my phone was basically inoperable. During those 4 days, my WiFi was not working, and I could make calls. Nor could I use most of the apps without the phone freezing. I could text and use the Twitter app. Thats about it. And not to mention the sleepless nights I had because my phone would start looping at 2am.
Like with any other business in the world, if you have a problem with the service or the product, they offer you a discount. If I made Verizon a cheeseburger at work, and they were not satisfied with it, a manager would comp the meal and offer a replacement. It like that in lots of industries. But Verizon seems to be different. First they start with the denial. Nothing is wrong. Until they are swamped with calls about the problem. Then they pass the buck. Or its an HTC problem. But what it really boils down to, is that it becomes my problem. ME A PAYING CUSTOMER!

I got the low memory error. They told me to just get a new device. But they're the ones who pushed out an "update" that makes the device think its got less memory than it actually has, which interferes and ultimately eliminates the device's operations. As a result, the owner is forced to get a new device, and either to take the 2G plan, or pay an extra $350 for the replacement device. (VZW will offer to provide a replacement Incredible, but the problem will reoccur because the issue is with the software, not the hardware.) It's an incredibly poor and, I believe, unlawful business practice. Small claims court seems sensible - a class action would be even better. I've sent complaints to the FCC, the FTC and the New York State Attorney General's office. Online complaints are easy to file and, in my view, well-founded.

What kind of company locks out its customers?

This forced upgrade crap is very microsoftish. Were you people ever going to notify your existing customers that they wouldn't be able to access the music store with an older version or just let everybody go postal?

William. If it works for you, and you are OK with the lack of Music Store access, then I guess you've found your solution. Should you desire to make the move at a later date, then do remember that there is actually a fairly small number of folks who have experienced issues (it's just they are all in one place. Namely, here). Asking for some advice on your computer's setup will help you see if there are any known issues.
I successfully ran iTunes on my Athlon XP computer (homebrewed, so I should have been more open to problems) fom November 2003 until now. I also have access to about 12 other computers of various configurations that are all running iTunes without a hitch. I am more than happy to try to find any issues with your particular setup. Again, that's your choice. If you're interested, just ask, there are plenty of folks that would be willing to sit down with you and see what might be at odds.

Rafi is correct. Since po_number is the filter column, the only chance you have for using an index to access the table is on that column. However, if there are few (or none) rows with null po_number, you will always have FTS. Does the table have a PK ( which probably consists of at least po_number, line_number )? If that is the case po_number could never be null and in which case you are dumping the whole table and no indexing scheme is going to improve the queri's performance. You might, repeat might, see performance improvement if you cleanse the data in the table ( to eliminate the need for UPPER(LTRIM)RTRIM())) ) before querying it so the the data does not have to be massaged before returning it.

What need to be done for CDC when transfer the application server to new?

we have a BO DI server in window, an application server JDE, and data mart in sql server for universe data. We set up the triggle based CDC in DI. Therefore, we extract change data from application database (oracle) to CDC table, then tranform the data to the sql server database to feed the universe data. We are moving our application server (JDE) to a new server, new hardware...etc. We need to certify the CDC in the new server database, but not sure what need to be done in the CDC part. The data has to do a full refresh then we need to turn on our CDC to the new server, where we change the configeration? Does anyone has such experience before?
