My MacBook Pro with 2Gs RAM and 160G HD has been running very slow, particularly if I have several Safari windows open. I have 37G space available on my 160G HD. In addition to dumping excess files to free up more space on my HD, would a de-fragmentation software program help?

It could mess things up even worse.
You likely have other issues, 37GB of free space on 160GB is considerable, about 24% which is about when it starts slowing down. So you could remove some files to a external drive that your not using, or may decide to upgrade to a 7,200 RPM drive and more RAM to max out your machines performance.
Lets try something first, you might not have to resort to a full backup, Zero Erase and fresh install of OS X, but that certianly would do the trick much safer than a defragmentation software.
This is going to check out the drive, clean somethings out and perhaps reveal some other issues if they exist or not.
Download the free OnyX and run All the initial checks, maintenance and finally cleaning steps and reboot at the end (you can cancel the in between reboots)

You need to download your OS X verison to match. Make sure to enable "all accounts" in OnyX preferences.
Also if it gives any warning, quit and backup your files off the machine as soon as possible and report back here.
Machine may act a bit slower upon reboot, then it should scream, I think you may have a corrupt Safari cache file.

If you're not very techie I'd probably stick with Photoshop and continue to create animated gifs for web banners. You could also create stuff in Flash but I'm thinking Photoshop would be better for you. The process would be the same in Photoshop CS6 as CC.

I agree with everyone about "flashed" sites. Still, if you want to mess around with some basic animation (animated GIF's, etc.) there are a couple of pretty simple programs to get you started like Web Painter which is also a lot cheaper than flash and has a much more manageable learning curve. Also, there is a "poor man's photoshop" called Paint Shop Pro that comes bundled with a very simple A.G. app called Animation Shop. Unfortunately, the program only runs on windoze so you would either need a PC, Virtual PC or an Intel Mac with "boot camp" and expee.

Why Defragment?
It has often been asserted that defragmentation (or disk optimization) is not a good idea on
systems using Apple’s HFS+ filesystem. The main reasons given for this historically have been:
HFS+ is very much better at keeping files defragmented than many other commodity filesystems.
Advanced features in recent versions of HFS+ can easily be disrupted by a defragmentation tool
that does not support them, resulting in decreased performance.
There is a risk associated with defragmentation.
Whilst these arguments are certainly valid, they are not the whole story. For one thing, iDefrag,
unlike most other disk defragmentation tools, fully supports the most recent features of HFS+,
namely the metadata zone (or “hot band”) and the adaptive hot file clustering support added in
Mac OS X 10.3. Not only does it avoid disrupting them, but it is capable of fixing disruption caused
by other software by moving files into or out of the metadata zone as appropriate.
Sensible arguments for occasional optimization of your disk include:
HFS+ is not very good at keeping free space contiguous, which can, in turn, lead to large files
becoming very fragmented, and can also cause problems for the virtual memory subsystem on Mac
OS X.
Older versions of the Mac OS are not themselves aware of the metadata zone policy, and may
disrupt its performance.
HFS+ uses B-Tree index files to hold information about the filesystem. If a large number of files
are placed on a disk, the filesystem may have to enlarge these B-Tree structures; however, there is

Whilst HFS+ is good at keeping individual files defragmented, mechanisms like Software Update

This is a form of fragmentation that is typically overlooked.
Defragmenting disk images can be helpful, particularly if they are to be placed onto a CD/DVD, as

It's worth noting that if your Gmail has been hacked, it would likely have nothing to do with your MacBook. Hacking web based email is fairly common and it doesn't require any access to your machine whatsoever. In the same way that you can simply go to the Gmail webpage through any browser, any hacker can use the same method. It doesn't mean your machine has been compromised in any way (and it has likely not been). I have never received an email from Google of this nature. I have received notifications when someone has attempted to create an account with my name in which they basically say that there is no action required if you're the rightful owner.

The only Programms I worked with are DVD Studio Pro and iDVD. You can burn a Video-DVD with Toast but there is no real option to design your Menu. Just a few themes as far as I discovered.
Do you have a Blue Ray Device to burn* the HD-DVD? Are the Bride and Groom able to watch the Blue Ray?
* which is only possible with DVD Studio Pro and not iMovie as far as I know.

Export the Movie as is from Final Cut Pro and then use Compressor to encode the File.
Consider delivering the Movie in a different way like a private video on vimeo, a Website or on an SD card which is not really romantic...

Have been doing this for some time, my setup:
I use an ancient "Symphonic" VCR player connected to an Elgato Eyetv Hybrid USB dongle. That plugs into my G5 Mac, 10.5.8, which runs Eyetv software v. 2.5.3.
Recording is dead simple after fiddling around a bit with software settings for channel, etc. Start the player, hit "record" on the software and wait for the end.
The recording is saved in some obscure ".eyetv" format with file size about 4 GB per hour of recording. The software has export to a variety of formats including QT Movie which results in a substantially larger file size.
Quality? Well, it's viewable and usable for archive purposes. I'm fine with it but more discriminating folks may want something better. I end up burning the video on a DVD using iDVD and that's not the greatest anyway.
There are various Elgato units available, and the Eyetv Hybrid seems to run bout $130.

Memory size has nothing to do with it. I can open my 60GB iPhoto library with only 8GB RAM. Perhaps you have an incompatible version of iPhoto under Tiger with iPhoto under ML.
As to downloading different photos from iCloud, you would do the same if you ...
* open iPhoto under Tiger
* dump the photos individually in to a folder on your external hard drive
* shut down everything on the old MacBook
* connect the external hard drive to new MacBook
* open iPhoto on new MacBook
* import the photos in the folder on the external hard drive directly in to the new iPhoto
IOW, you need not use iCloud (even if you could, which you cannot) to swap photos as you propose.
If you are at a loss for space on your external hard drive for whatever reason (perhaps that external hard drive is a full Time Machine partition), I recommend that you buy another external hard drive just for your photos.
