What is best possible set-up to provide music less...

Hello!
What is the best possible setup (skype, internet, any other parameters) for music lessons by Skype on a Mac? We are currently doing this but would like to improve the experience as there is a time lag (teacher and student cannot play simultaneously, sometimes audio and video don't match exactly), sometimes there are problems with audio and/or video quality and on rare occasions the connection is dropped. Are these issues to do with our internet service provider or is there someway we can change Skype parameters to improve lesson quality? We currently have 5Mbps internet service (which is more or less reliable), and the lessons are done near the Wifi router (doesn't seem to make a difference if we use ethernet cable or Wifi). Is there anything we can do to improve things?
Thanks in advance,
Music Lover
Subject/title expanded from "music lessons" to better reflect post content.

I am in a similar situation and have similar questions.
Some of my "friends in the know" that perhaps Skype is optimized for voice, so transmitting musical audio might not work as well. I have a 3Mbs speed and am having similar problems to what you describe.
Wish I could be of further help but hope my post prods others to chime in.

So, what are the best settings to record in using Canon HD Vixia HG20 for easy migration into iMovee'11 v.9.0.9?
It would be most helpful to list what the best possible settings are.
    frame rate?
    format?  FXP?

I suggest filming in 30P with this camera. That should be the MXP setting.
You could also use 30i which would be the FXP setting.
You will get the best results in iMovie by shooting progressive.

  • Best possible setting for copying HD content onto Apple TV

    Hi,
I have some HD footage which have been shoot at 1080/24p. I have successfully imported it into iMovie, but I when I am trying to export it, I am not able to select 1080. I have tried to do it through Quicktime, but Apple TV wont recognize the resulting file.
What is the best possible solution?
    Best regards
    Henrik

FCE supports the same/few codecs and standards as iMovie ..
for usage with AppleTV, I would use the presets.. and 'Large' is enough for AppleTV ..
    but, ..
'Large' imports in a lower res than your recording device.. so, you 'lose' the original quality ... imagine, in 4 years, you want your recordings in FullHD/BluRay disks..
that is the problem with HDD based recordings devices.. you have NOW to decide, how to 'backup'/import your stuff for future use..
tape based devices keep the original quality.. (on tape), independently how you import and process your recordings in a computer...

  • What is best network setting for jetpack mifi 5510l

I live in a rural area with poor signal.  No 4G and limited 3G.  We got an antenna that boosts phones from nothing or 1X one bar to 3G and 2-3 bars inside the house.  What is the best network setting for jetpack?  It doesn't seem to work as well.
Automatic and 4g don't work.  I don't know what CDMA Auto or EDVO stand for.
Any suggestions for improving strength would be appreciated.  I know I won't get a great connection but a steady connection sure would be great.

    > What is the best network setting for jetpack?
Not sure what you mean.  The jetpack will automatically configure itself to whatever signal it currently has access to.  Shouldn't have to configure any network settings.
    > I don't know what CDMA Auto or EDVO stand for.
Those are the old 3G networks.
    > Any suggestions for improving strength would be appreciated.
Perform what is known as a Site Survey and evaluate your current environment:
    http://3gstore.com/page/13_will_an_antenna_help_me.html
After you generate some numbers then look up what they mean in the Interpret the Results tab.  You mentioned that you already purchased an antenna so there may not be anything else you can do as the local towers in your area are not good enough to reach inside your home.

  • Whats the best way to back up/store music/docs from an old ibook, so I can use an ipad to access all of that content. I want to ditch the ibook altogether

I need a solution for my parents. They have an ibook, which is trapped on old versions of OSX itunes etc. I want to get all their content to an accesible place, so they can access all of this on their ipad2. My initial thought was time capsule, as it also contains a base station for wifi, but i read i can only use this with a computer. An alternative might be the cloud. Any thoughts or suggestions? budget not an issue, but they only really need to use the ipad for leisure - they dont have need of a new laptop

happy to administer (if possible) from the existing ibook - but no desire to shell out for a new laptop when they are happy with the laptop. they dont need any more than access to web, facetime, iplayer and email, all of which can be done on ipad

  • Whats the best way to back up my music collection?

what files do i need to back up other than the mp3s?
    thanks

If your Mac is configured in the standard way you just need to back up the contents of your Music folder (home > Music) and the iTunes preferences in your Preferences folder (home > Library > Preferences).
However, it's a good idea to backup the entire contents of your home folder.

  • What is the best display setting to have it on when connected to a TV?

I just bought a mini dvi adapter and I was wondering what the best display setting was to make it as clear as a possible.
I have it connected to a 52 in screen.
    Thanks,
    Sam

The best display setting is actually its native screen resolution, usually the max resolution is the native one, but double check it with the TV respectively site to get more accurate technical answer.
    Good Luck.

  • Best Quality Setting and Letterboxing problem

Just finished 10 minute production shot with a Canon xl2 in 24p advanced pulldown with 16:9. After exporting with compressor to DVD Studio pro and burning - have some leterboxing and quality is not what I expected. Also - client reports "pause" when playing on new dell. Need the highest quality - but production needs to play on most popular newer model computers. Would appreciate any advice anyone can provide:
    1. What is best export setting to use from FCP for DVD production of a 24pa 16:9 project? Should 16:9 be checked under the advanced sequence setting - or does that cause a problem in dvd studio pro?
    2. What is best compressor setting? DVDbest quality 90 minute 16:9?
    3. In DVD Studio - under the track settings - would you check letterbox, 4;3; or pan-scan & letterbox - why is there not just a 16:9 setting? Why would DVD studio pro indicate the asset is 29 vs 24 FPS?
Really need some help on this - we have a fantastic production and wand it to be displayed in the proper format at the highest quality. Thanks so much.

although your 'normal' rendering shows the correct scenery, it looks in 'best' as if the fall-off settings of your light(s) is too high/low (?? )
I would increase these settings of the lights…

    Hi
    Thank you for your post.
The reason why your contacts didn't display is currently the Tamil language is not supported by the Windows 7.5 OS and we do not have any information if this language will be supported in the future or not. The current list of supported languages are:
Brazilian Portuguese, Chinese (simplified and traditional), Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, Greek, Hungarian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian (Bokmål), Polish, Portuguese, Russian, and Swedish.
In regards to being a smart phone, these come from a variety of manufactures using a variety operating systems each having there own unique way of functioning and features and as such it is the responsibility of the consumers to make an informed choice on what device would suit them based on specifications of the device which includes hard ware or software. There is no unified smartphone requirements as each use's different operating systems.
So when purchasing a new device it is advisable to do some research on what device would suit your needs and if need be to speak to your local authorised mobile phone retailers for there expert advice. If at the point of purchase you were mis-advised and told that the Windows OS did support the Tamil language then this is something you will need to go back to the point of purchase otherwise it is your responsibility to make sure you choose a device that fully suit your needs.

  • What's the best compression setting for exporting video to DVD?

My QT self contained file from FCP is 13 GB (1:02 min long) when I use DV NTSC while exporting. When iDVD finished encoding it, it went down to 3.4 GB (that includes video files in my iDVD menus).
*Since the DVD media is 4.7 GB can I make better quality DVD by lessening compression while exporting from FCP?*
I don't think there is a way to tweak compression in iDVD. And my second question:
*Is "self contained" file better quality than just a reference file?*
*I would like to make the best possible quality DVD and am looking for some tips on what settings would help me achieve it.*

    Hi Joby,
    Compressor is what you need.
Import your file, choose DVD best quality 90 minutes from the settings tab (lower left window in Compressor). This will allow your movie to be converted as MPEG 2 and ac3 dolby stereo (best compression for DVD audio).
The inspector window (lower right window) will allow you to decide/arrange settings as you like.
If you are not sure about best bit rate choice use the [Bit Budget|http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/bitbudget.html]
As you can see the inspector window offers a range of customizable settings if you are not familiar with those the manual (main menu>help>user manual) will answer all your questions. Simply type a word or definition in the search area and most likely the manual will provide the info you seek.
Self contained means that you create a file with exact copies from your original frames and edit on the timeline, a self-contained file becomes independent from your timeline. A reference movie as the definition says totally refers to your FCP project and wouldn't work on a different machine without referenced media files.
There is no difference in quality between the two QTmovie options.
    Hope that helps

  • In iLife08 what is best setting to convert avi 720 and digital video 1080i

What is the bottom line for best quality for 720 p TV.
1.) My import is digital video 1080i to i Movie 08 (full quality)
What should I use for sharing on AppleTV
    - the preset Large (which is 960x 540)
    - or some custom setting 25 fps at 1220x 720? ( H.264 display dimensions at 24/25 fps is 720p (1280x720) ) - or what should the setting be??
2.) Have Windows avi older 720 *480 video, what is best setting to convert this for Apple TV? The 640 setting on QuickTime premium is not very good
    Thank you so much. Peter

Your best option if you are using NTSC footage in imovie is the export to/movie large (960 x 540) at 30 fps, the resolution won't go any higher and still work on the tv. Don't even think about changing the framerate to 24/25 fps, even though you'll be able to export to 720p (1280 x720) changing the framerate will make your video jerky.
If you are using PAL then yes you could export to 720p (even though the specs say 24 fps, 25 fps does in fact work as well), you could try a few tests yourself but I've already done them and IMHO there is so little difference between 960 x 540 and 1280 x 720 that it isn't worth messing about setting up and trying several manual exports to get the best results when you can click one button and be done.
So far a AVI conversion is concerned, I'd try mpegstreamclip, but saying that I can't really be sure. AVI is a container not a codec and I would need to know what codec is actually used inside the container to answer your question properly (Quicktime may tell you though). The problem with AVI is that it is simply so old (even microsoft abandoned it over 10 years ago), unfortunately in a small number of cases some of the codecs that were used in AVI are simply no longer able to be converted. Probably not so likely but at least you are warned.

  • What is the best Compressor setting for best quality video playback on an iBook g4?

I know the iBook and G4's in general are very outdated today, but I need to ask anyways. I have some video projects in 720p and 1080p in which I have down converted to 480p and also exported to MPEG-2 for DVD (personal wedding videos and videos made for my clients using Final Cut Studio). Anything encoded at most resolutions using h264 won't play on my iBook. Even 480p.
I have about 20 hours of mixed video content that I need it in a format that is suitable for an iPhone 4 and an iBook 12" with a 1.2GHz G4, 1.25GB RAM and I added a 250 WD 5400 IDE hard disk (running 10.5.8 and 10.4.11 for Classic Mode). I know the iBook doesn't seem like the best tool for modern video playback, but I need to figure out which setting will play best with iPhone 4 and iBook so I don't need to make 2 local copies of each video for each device.
The iBook plays best with the original DVD output MPEG-2 file and playing back in QT Pro or VLC... but I already have 180 GB's of MPEG-2 files now and my little HD is almost full. I don't have enough room to convert all the iPhone 4 counterparts. If I use Compressor 3.5.3, what is the optimal setting for iBook and iPhone .m4v or .mp4 files that can play on both devices? So far 720x400-480 widescreen videos @ 29fps works great on my iPhone, Apple TV 2, and other computers but seems to murder my poor iBook if encoded with high profile (and still choppy on simple profiles). 640x480 (adding black matte bars to my videos) plays fine in MPEG-2 but drops frames or goes to black screen if I convert it to mp4 (and looks bad on the iPhone 4 because of the matte). But if I convert on any of the simple profiles, it looks terrible on my iPhone 4 and a blocky on the iBook.
This is the problem leading me to having 2 copies of each video and eating my hard disk space. What is the best video setting for both playback on the iBook and iPhone 4? Can the iBook playback H264 at all in decent resolutionsat all? I don't really want to have a 480p .m4v collection for the iPhone 4 and a MPEG-2 RAW collection just to play the same videos on the iBook.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Update: The iBook can play any 480p video and higher if I encode them with DivX and in AVI format. But of course this is not compatible with my iPhone 4. At least I can shrink my library now and get away from the full MPEG-2s. I don't get why I can't use Apple's h264 though. There has to be a setting I am missing. The sample Apple h264 videos from the days of Tiger worked flawlessly on my iBook when it was new so the CPU must be capable of decoding it. I really can't understand this.
Also, since I made my videos in English for my family, I had to create soft subtitles for my wife's Chinese family, and I can't get players like QT with perian or MPlayerX to sync them properly to an AVI encoded with DivX, they only sync well with the iPhone 4 m4v/mp4 formatted files I made. This is a real pickle.
So now I may need three or four copies of each video, LOL. I need to hardcode the subtitles if I want to use AVI to playback on older machines, and keep the mp4 file for the iDevices too, while keeping higher quality h264 videos for my American relatives...
If h264 is compatible with my iBook, what is the proper encoding settings? Must I dramatically lower the settings or frame rate? I can settle on 2 copies of each video that way. One iBook/G4/eMac compatible video that syncs correctly with my srt soft subs, and another version that works well with my iPhone 4 and iPad.
All in all, I will end up with more than 3 or 4 version of each video. On my late G5 dual core I have the full 720-1080p uncompressed master files. On my i5 iMac I have the h264 compressed versions for distribution, and lower versions for my iDevices. Now I need to keep either full MPEG-2 files for the iBook to play, or convert to older formats like DivX AVI for our family's legacy machines. I am running out of hard disk space quick now, LOL.
    Is there an easier way?

    A 15" mid-2009 MBP RAM specifications are: 204-pin PC3-8500 (1066 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM.
As has been pointed out, OWC is an excellent source for Mac compatible RAM.  Crucial is another first rate source for Mac RAM.  RAM from either vendor will work just as well as any purchased from Apple with the bonus of being less expensive and having a lifetime guarantee.
