What is best to have it turned on or off?
Hello,
I have installed Mountain Lion and all works well.
I am not sure as to how the Firewall was set up prior to my installing Mountai Lion OS.
I now see under Security & Privacy the Firewall is marked as Firewall: Off. Mine is a Mac Book Air access internet over my home WiFi wireless network. My WiFi is password protected.
Do I have to keep the FireWall in my Mac Book Air set "ON" or is it alright to leave it as at present-Off?
Regards
Yes I do have my WiFi Router and my Mac Book Air is connected wireless.
So it may be over cook to turn on the FireWall. Having said that, I have just turned it on eralier after reading previous response. I have not noticed any diffeerence in the speed or behaviour of my Mac Book Air.
I will leave it on to observe/learn if any difference when I am using my Mac Book Air and if I find any slowing or problem in visiting certain sites, I could turn it off knowing from your response that the Router firewall is there to act against any malicious activity.
Thank you for your very helpful answer.
Regards

After iPad update I can't access my notes! Crashes opening with blank page. I have tried turning on and off. I have tried the reset to original. I have tried downloading again. Now what? I have important information that I need to get....
If you have set this phone up, then there would not necessarily be a solution here until you have been verify with the provider that everything is provisioned correctly on their end. Since the 3G comes from your cellular provider, if the settings are correct on the phone, then you should work with the carrier next.

Whenever I open my notes it crashes, sending me back to my gome screen. I have tried turning my ipad off, closing it down fully, backing up my ipad... I don't know what to do. Please help.
Reset it by holding the power and home buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo, then release. This just restarts it, you won't lose any data by doing this.

Hey (: I have the new iPad and I want to ask what is "healthier" for the battery : turn the device off in the night or keep it on during the night ? Thank you !
BTW, statements like
"Use the device until the battery has drained to the point of self-shutdown. Basically, use it until it turns itself off."
in articles like the one at http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/ are complete BS and if you do follow their "advice", your battery life will be severely hampered. Particularly if you also follow one of the comments: "Step One.One: Leave the device for 5+ hours before start charging. This will fully drain the battery." Well, the guy that advised the latter certanly doesn't know anyhting about lithium batteries and the damage deep discharging does to them.
Again, what the article (and the above-cited comment) advices is complete b*llsh*t and noone should really do this. -
My iPod touch is stuck in landscape view. Even when held vertically if I open facebook or safari is rotates to landscape. Have tried turning on and off, same results. Any ideas to fix?
Try switching it back from landscape to vertical. Or, go to settings and see if you have any special setting turned on that enable only landscape view. Also, try hooking it up to your computer and charging it to see what happens.

My husband's 3GS IPhone will not recognize a Wi-Fi connection at home or work. We have tried turning it on/off as well as turning airplane mode to on while turning it off then back on again. My 3GS IPhone is working fine with our router at home. Please advise what our next step should be. Thank you for taking the time to read this post!!
Just to double check you tried eveyrthing take a look at this link http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398 .
Can also try powering off the home router, then the phone, and then power up the router wait for the signal and then power up the phone and see if he can connect. -
When working in the basement for an extended period I get SOS message and have to turn my phone off and on before I can use it is this normal
when the phone detects the Optus network, this will automatically go out of the SOS mode.
The SOS mode allows you to call SOS numbers like 911 or 112 even if there is no network coverage.
What it does it tap to the next available carrier (regardless if this is your home carrier or not) to have the emergency call pushed through) -
I updated my 4s to IOS 8 and now it won't automatically connect with my Ford SYNC. I have to turn the phone off and then on again for it to connect.
Why is this? My husband's 4s is still on IOS7 and it still connects automatically.I do not know if this will help.
For a limited time Apple will allow you to downgrade to 7.1.2. Hurry do not wait.

I follow the instructions of swiping up from the bottom for the control panel, but nothing appears. What am I doing wrong or what do I need to be turned on or off?
"If you're on your home screen, where your apps and folders are, you can't."
I can on mine.
For anyone having this issue, take your device out of the case and try it naked before trying a reset, restore or Genius Bar appointment. -

I have to turn the wireless off and then back on to get back on the internet. Does anyone have a solution? All iPhones and iPad and windows computers work fine.

my iphone 4s loses the signal and to recover it I have to turn on and off airplane mode, can anyone help me??
Generally speaking, the iPad backup process is a disaster recovery process, not an archive process. Typically, when creating a new backup, the old one is erased.
If you go to iTunes' Preferences (under the leftmost heading in iTunes' menu on your computer) and then choose "Devices", do you see the specific backup you want to restore listed there? If so, you can restore it. If not, I don't believe you can.
