What is best way to clean superdrive on an iMac?

want to know if a cd/dvd cleaner with the little brushes would work?

You're welcome.  The cleaning discs will have onscreen instructions.  It's very basic & easy.  Insert the disc & let it do its thing.  It will let you know when done cleaning.

    Try a Reset... Try again...
Reset  ( No Data will be Lost )
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Release the Buttons.

  • Best way to clean screen of new imac?

i got my new mac a few months back and i remember asking at the store what the best way to clean the screen was and was told that the new screens where a special glass that required a special cleaning product, and of course i didn't write it down. i just want to make sure i don't scratch my beautiful new screen...and if i can do it with a fairly affordable product that would be even better.
    thanks in advance,

I think there is iKlear, but I never tried it, it's pretty expensive.
Apple themselves say you should use their cloth with a little(!) water (see imac manual).
I just use the dry apple cloth and from time to time I use a little glass cleaner and a soft cloth. works well for me, others say that alot of glass cleaners are not good for the display, I can't say that's true

  • What is best way to clean up startup disc?  What apps work?

What is the best way to clean up my startup disc?  Are any of the clean up apps trustworthy?

Here are some general tips to keep your Mac's hard drive trim and slim as possible
You should never, EVER let a computer hard drive get completely full, EVER!
With Macs and OS X, you shouldn't let the hard drive get below 15 GBs or less of free data space.
If it does, it's time for some hard drive housecleaning.
Follow some of my tips for cleaning out, deleting and archiving data from your Mac's internal hard drive.
Have you emptied your Mac's Trash icon in the Dock?
If you use iPhoto or Aperture, both have its own trash that needs to be emptied, also.
If you store images in other locations other than iPhoto, then you will have to weed through these to determine what to archive and what to delete.
If you are an iMovie/ Final Cut user, both apps have their own individual Trash location that needs to be emptied, too!
If you use Apple Mail app, Apple Mail also has its own trash area that needs to be emptied, too!
Delete any old or no longer needed emails and/or archive to disc, flash drives or external hard drive, older emails you want to save.
Look through your other Mailboxes and other Mail categories to see If there is other mail you can archive and/or delete.
STAY AWAY FROM DELETING ANY FILES FROM OS X SYSTEM FOLDER!
Look through your Documents folder and delete any type of old useless type files like "Read Me" type files.
Again, archive to disc, flash drives, ext. hard drives or delete any old documents you no longer use or immediately need.
Look in your Applications folder, if you have applications you haven't used in a long time, if the app doesn't have a dedicated uninstaller, then you can simply drag it into the OS X Trash icon. IF the application has an uninstaller app, then use it to completely delete the app from your Mac.
To find other large files, download an app called Omni Disk Sweeper.
    http://www.omnigroup.com/more
    Also, Find Any File
    http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/
Typically, iTunes and iPhoto libraries are the biggest users of HD space.
move these files/data off of your internal drive to the external hard drive and deleted off of the internal hard drive.
If you have any other large folders of personal data or projects, these should be archived or moved, also, to the optical discs, flash drives or external hard drive and then either archived to disc and/or deleted off your internal hard drive.

    Moving iPhoto library

    Moving iMovie projects folder

Things to consider before moving your iPhoto Library Folder to a new or external location like an external hard drive.
If you make movies on any iDevices using iMovie for iOS,, then transfer the video footage, the IOS version of iMovie saves the footage as a movie file in IPhoto for IOS and will automatically get transferred to iPhoto for the Mac when you upload the video from your iDevice.
Newer versions of iMovie will work and link those video files found in your iPhoto Library on your Mac, but those links can be lost if you move your iPhoto library and you will not be able to relink that video afterwards as the current versions of iMovie seem to not have a relink option for the video portion of the files (ironically, current versions of iMovie HAVE the ability to re-link the audio files from the video footage, though  (The inability to re-link the video files could be a possible bug or oversight in current versions iMovie).
The lost video links show up as "blacked-out" video blocks with no content.
    Before moving the iPhoto Library
If you make movies with iMovie using iPad or iPhone video then 'Consolidate' the files before you finish. This will gather (albeit by duplicating) all the relevant files in the project in one place. After consolidating/duplicating all of the audio and video footage to a seperate, independent location,it should be safe to move your iPhoto library.
The potential way to circumvent this issues maybe to try and import  iPad and iPhoto video directly into iMovie which would be another solution.
    Good Luck!

  • Whats the best way to clean an imac?

Hi, I've had my iMac for about five years, the white 20-inch iMac. I've noticed some flickring on the screen when I change window; looks like static for just a mili-second on screen. Also, sometimes I see dots and lines in the dropshadow of active windows... I've heard this is due to dust in the fan. What would be the best way of cleaning it out?

Could also just be an accumulation of dust on the botton grill work and small air intake behind the stand that is causing the iMac and graphics to run hot.
Every few months I shut down (stopping the fans) and vigorously vacuum the bottom grill work and small intake of my 2006 Early Core Duo to keep it running cool.
Check your current tempuratures with iStat Pro, vacuum the air intakes and check again. Apple - Downloads - Dashboard Widgets - iStat Pro
Unfortunatly if however the Graphic's chip is damaged from repeated overheating, then really the only fix is a very expensive repair or a new iMac.

  • What is best way to get video into my iMac for recording?

I have a HD camera that outputs both HDMI and Component Analog video. What do I need to be able to get one of these signals into my iMac so I can record/edit it?

What kind of media does it record to? iMovie will import many types of media and formats. I would be using the video from the media if possible not the Video output sigal.

  • What is best way to connect new camera to iMac.

I just got a new camera - canon PowerShot sx40 - I want to connect it to my iMac to down video. It does 1080 dpi. My computer was from feb 2010. It has 4 USB and one FireWire 800 port. No thunderbolt. What cables do I need.

The camera shoud have Firewire 400 cable (arrow looking port), all you need is a Firewire 400/800 (boxy looking port) adapter.
This will allow the camera to stream video to the computer and transfer at the fastest speed.
If you only have USB on the camera (may be USB mini port), then it's really for transfering, your Mac only has USB 2 ports, so find out which ones are the USB 2 (as some are USB 1 which is slower)
Newer devices may have USB 3, but it's backwards compatible with USB 2 and 1, just slower.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Enter *#7370# followed by the security code which is 12345 by default. You must have a SIM inserted for this to work I believe (been a while).
This will erase all data and restore settings to factory defaults.
Click on the blue Star Icon below if my advice has helped you or press the 'Accept As Solution' link if I solved your problem..

  • Best way to clean keyboard

Hello, I was wondering what the best way to clean the keyboard on my black book is. Thanks for the help.

The absolute best and least harmful method, is going to be a soft cloth lightly dampened with plain ordinary water.
That will be quite sufficient for almost everything. And, it is not going to hurt the computer.
Make sure the computer is off.
And, make sure that the cloth is only slightly damp. You don't want to drip any water inside the computer. So, wring that cloth out good.
As for removing dust under the keys, you could hold the computer upside down, and blow the dust out with a can of compressed air.
    I hope this helps.

  • Best way to clean contacts on battery charging plug in area

Probably electronic contact cleaner used very sparingly on a foam-tipped swab. Cotton swabs would be likely to leave fibers in the socket so I would not recommend them.

  • Best way to clean my screen...?

    hey all
I have had my macbook since july, and i was wondering whats the best way to clean my screen?? This screen looks much more sensitive than my prior HP laptops, so i'm deathly afraid of leaving scratches...so i have just gone without touching it at all!! Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi bejerble,
best way is not to touch the screen, and you can use compressed air in can to blow the dust away (do not spray to close).
if you really need to clean it off from smudge or finger print, you can use soft micro fiber fabric that slightly damped with water and wipe the screen without applying too much pressure.
IF the smudge or oily dirt won't go away that easily, I usually use water based glass cleaner and just spray lightly to the damp fabric (not directly to the screen), and wipe it couple more time.
    Good Luck.

  • Best way to clean screen glass

Okay, so there shouldn't even be any finger smudges on the new screen, but they're there. What is best way to clean them off? One question is wet or dry? And if one way is preferable, what is best to use? Long ago it was advised not to use things like glass cleaners on computer screens, but my MacBook Pro is less than 2yrs old and although I guess it won't be hard to clean off the smudges, in the process I want to be careful not to injure the glass.
    Recommendations?

Your display glass is ordinary glass, it's extremely hard, and it's not vulnerable to much of anything except sharp impacts. It has no delicate coating on it like the LCD screen behind it. Apple will never say so, but it's fine to use glass cleaner on it, as long as you spray it onto a cloth rather than directly onto the screen, and studiously avoid letting any drips run down it.
The truth is, I've used various flavors of glass cleaner on all six of my Apple notebook screens for the last 17 years with no ill effects at all, and this MBP screen is the only one that's had a pane of glass in front of it.

  • Wipe my hard drive clean except for the OS whats the best way?

I need to wipe my hard drive clean except for the OS whats the best way?

From Kappy (note: with this method, you will need to update to the present OS version using the appropriate Combo Update from Apple Downloads.)
Boot from the OS X Installer Disc One that came with the computer. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities (Installer menu if using Panther or Jaguar) menu. After DU loads select the startup volume from the left side list then click on the Erase tab. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) then click on the Options button. Select the one pass Zero Data option and click on the OK button. Then click on the Erase button.
Note: You can skip the Zero Data option if you are not concerned about removing sensitive personal data from the hard drive. If you choose to skip this part of the process then it is possible for others to recover data from the hard drive. The Zero Data procedure will prevent others from getting access to your personal information.
This process will take 30 minutes to several hours depending upon the size of the hard drive. After formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer. Now complete the OS X installation. At the completion of the installation do not restart the computer. Instead just shut it off. The next user will be presented with the Setup Assistant when they turn on the computer just as it would if new out of the box.

What is the best way to clean a white Apple keyboard?

Take the batteries out if applicable, and use a very slightly damped lint-free cloth. Be very careful not to get any actual liquid into it. A brush would also be useful for cleaning between the keys: if you want to get fancy you can buy mini-vacuum cleaners for this, such as this one.
