What is best way to make disk backup of CS5 downloaded installation?

Hi,
We purchased the downloadable version of the CS5 Production Premium installer rather than waiting 2 weeks to receive it in box form.
What do you suggest is the best way to make a backup of the downloaded installers, which total about 13.8 gigs?  I was thinking of putting the main one on a dual layer DVD-R but the biggest file is 9.23 gb's, nearly a gig over the data limit for dual layer disks.  Is it possible to use Toast to split a disk image over multiple files or use Apple Disk Utility to compress the .dmg even further to fit?  Or perhaps is the easiest way to just copy it over to a USB thumb drive?
I know Adobe allows you to re-download the software whenever needed, but it would be more handy for us to have a backup here rather than wait for another really long download...
Suggestions?
Thanks!

You can buy a set of backup disks from Adobe for a nominal fee. You might want to give them a call and ask about it.
Otherwise, just back it all up to an external drive.

  • Best way to make disk images for game disks?

    I want to play my beloved Battlefield 1942 on my Air... and I realized that I need the disk! ...Is there a way to turn the game disk into an image and "launch" it so the program thinks it's in the diskdrive, etc?
    I looked in DiskUtility, and I was a bit unsure what kind of image to make it.

    <font "size=+1">Duplicate a CD or DVD
    1. Insert the DVD/CD;
    2. Open Disk Utility, and select the DVD/CD from the left side list (select the DVD/CD icon on top);
    3. from the DU File menu select New | Disk Image from Disk 1;
    4. Choose to format the disk image as DVD/CD Master, name the disk image and click Save;
    5. When the .cdr file is finished select it with mouse and press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info and check the box to lock the file;
    6. Choose the .cdr file from the left side list, click Burn, and insert a new, blank DVD or CD.
    You can skip the last step if you don't want to burn the image to a CD or DVD. There is no guarantee this will work since many games will only work with a CD or DVD rather than a mounted image of one.

  • Whats the best way to make a slideshow DVD

    Hi, Finally I got my iMac the other day and have been playing around and trying to get the best out of it and was hoping to get some help from here. I have been playing with ilife on a friends mac for a while but never had a go in anger and now need some proper answers. Its quite simple. I create photo dvd slideshows and need to find the best way to do it. As far as I can tell there are a few ways. I can use imovie to get the running order - add the Ken Burns effects (that I DO need) - add music - add transitions and "share" to a .mov file and drag this into iDVD to put a menu on. Ok - this works but I get some MPEG artifacts (I know this is to be expected - I have been doing this for years on a PC). I can drag photos into iDVD but as far as I can tell I cannot have Ken Burns so this is out. I can use iPhoto to make a .mov file and again import this into iDVD. Am I missing something here? iMovie08 seems great and the .mov file is good enough quality to re-render in iDVD without losing too much quality so I guess this is the way to go but is there no way to go without rendering the .mov file and then going into iDVD? I have also used iMovie06 before and it had better transitions between photos - have these been lost in iMovie08?? I have set the quality in iMovie08 to "Profesional" but there stil seems to be a bit of artifacting. Should I try Toast?
    Apologies for the long post but am really keen to get this sorted. I have posted before on here and got great responses but just want to get it right 100% before putting lots of effort in. I have next week off work to perfect the photos to DVD slideshow before I start to try to sell these things! many many thanks.Ben

    I am still using my old 3 chip Sony TRV900 capturing to mindv tape and then importing that footage via FW into iM6 => iDVd'08. Frankly my own iDvd's look crisp and clean well over 90% of the time (But then again most my presentations are often under 60 mins duration in order to keep compression down to a minimum). They are well lit or often outdoors. And I avoid videotaping fast moving objects or panning the camera too quickly. I notice a significant quality shift (toward that of VHS quality ) if I shoot over 90-120 mins, & I often regret doing so since it requires the i-apps to work much harder and at times with marginal results.
    The trick I think is to keep it short and sweet and to avoid higher compression rates.
    That or move the video footage over to FCP => Compressor => DVDSP. But from experience I have found that anything over 90 mins. (regardless of the app I use) tends to look much like VHS quality..... disappointing to say the least in that jaggies begin to set in, and even tho I am using a 3 chip camera; color separation suffers greatly on a 2 hour standard DVD-R.
    I do not yet shoot HD nor do I own a Blueray Burner which is the very next step many of us will require of apple if and when we are to burn HD to disc. At the moment it's simply not supported on most macs. To date Blueray has not been widely incorporated into most macs either thru i-apps nor thru apple's pro apps from what I have observed.

  • Best way to make a backup before a Production move

    Here's a best practices question concerning Production MOVE procedures.
    Environment:
    OWB 10g Client on Windows XP Professional
    Repository - 9.2.0.4 on UNIX (AIX 5.2)
    Runtime - 9.2.0.4 on UNIX (AIX 5.2)
    Target - 9.2.0.4 on UNIX (AIX 5.2)
    I have two (2) environments, Development and Production, with two (2) repositories and two (2) Target Schemas.
    When moving a new object (mapping, table, etc.) into the Production area, I plan to first move the metadata with an EXPORT / IMPORT and then do the deployment with OMB (ugh!).
    I need to make a copy of the old Production object before the new one is written over the top of it 'just in case' the user or Business Analyst changes their minds tomorrow.
    I was initially thinking of doing a metadata EXPORT of the objects being promoted before the new ones are IMPORTed.
    Has anyone developed a more glamorous solution or what are the 'Best Practices' in this area from the moderators?
    Thanks very much in advance for all suggestions.
    Gary

    Hello, I'm using OWB 9.2.0.4 and I can take snapshots for complete modules
    OMBCREATE SNAPSHOT 'SNAP_ANAPAT' ADD ORACLE_MODULE 'STG_ANAPAT';
    But, I want to answer to you original original question, illustrating what is our current process for a production move.
    I agree with the previous post that OWB has bad limitations in metadata management. I'd really like a MDL file browser where
    I could choose what to import and compare the objects with the current version. (Note that you can pick the objects to import via parameter file of the command line import tool)
    Also it would be nice if Deployment Manager allowed better selections, for example filters on object name.
    We don't use snapshots, but rather rely on extracting 'by hand' just the changed objects. By hand means I wrote a custom
    PL/SQL procedure to which I supply various parameters for generating scripts. Most important are 'objects modified in a date range',
    'objects belonging to given modules' and 'objects used to realize a given process flow'. The latter is useful as we have many
    deployment sites with different processes and I want to give everyone exactly what is needed.
    The output of the PL/SQL is
    1) scripts to export objects via OWB command line import utility, and the export files themselves (generated spawning external process)
    2) scripts to deploy to XML files, and the XML files themselves (generated spawning external process)
    3) scripts to re-import the objects in production:
    these verify which objects where already present in production and export them to MDL to have a backup;
    rename any table objects to have a backup copy; import the new objects; deploy from the XML files.
    There is also a procedure to restore the data from the backup to newly deployed tables.
    Table updates are critical: when you add new columns, constraints, drop columns etc there is no automatic way to upgrade so this often needs manual intervention.
    Results of the import step can be checked controlling the log files.
    Results of the deploy step can be checked querying the runtime repository or with the Runtime Audit Browser.
    I adopted XML deploy because it allows to obtain a pre-digested, faster deploy then what is obtained deploying directly from the repository: this is especially important with many target repositories.
    It's useful in a development environment also as you can, with a single procedure call, export/deploy all objects modified since a given date.
    I'd like to listen to other people ideas about other ways to automate these annoying tasks.
    Antonio

  • Whats the best way to make a photo gallery?

    Hi there, im still building my first website and was wondering if you guys had any advice on building a gallery for about 40-50 photos. All apprearing as thumbnails then once you click they enlarge.
    Heres the page i want it to sit on http://www.rayoga.co.uk/gallery/index.html
    And ideally id like the image to open up on the same page, not a new window.
    Cheers

    Hi there
    Just has a couple more questions as im still struggling to get this right.
    In jalbum when i am given the option to save gallery, do i save it in my root folder public_html?
    jalbum gives me the option to upload my album to the rayoga site. When i do this it asks for the location it would
    like the album uploaded to. Previously i have chosen the gallery folder, when i do this it gives me an example of what
    my url will be (www.rayoga.co.uk/gallery). Then when i view the gallery after uploading it, my template is gone and all i
    see is the gallery as it appears in jalbum, none of my dreamweaver stuff is there.
    So far i have 3 different location where things are happening for the gallery
    1.My gallery index.html in dreamweaver where my template is and the code -
    <iframe src="http://www.rayoga.co.uk/gallery/" frameborder="0" style="height:810px; width:900px;"></iframe>
    2.My root folder has the file gallery.***
    3.And the sever has the jalbum directly uploaded to it from jalbum
    Im really struggling with this and just dont know what to do anymore.
    Please could someone help me work out why this isnt working?

    If you really only need to create textual logos, you might take a look at this:

    It'll be a lot less expensive than Illustrator, though of course it can't hold a candle to Illustrator's overall capabilities.

  • What's the best way to make a bootable, incremental backup of Boot Camp?

    I'm curious as to what's the best way to make a bootable and incremental backup of Boot Camp, similar to Time Machine? I'd essentially like it to replace System Restore as well, because that's currently not working for me (System Restore backups get deleted every time I restart).

    System Restore gets backed up to what and where?
    You need system image one way or another, and you want data and file backup.
    Windows 8 takes File History feature is similar to TimeMachine but not for system.
    Take a look at Paragon Hard Disk Manager 12 Suite, has Boot Camp support.

  • Best way to make a bootable backup on an external HD

    What is the best way to make a bootable copy of the startup drive on my mac. I have an external HD which would work. I already run Timemachine but if I'm correct it isn't bootable.
    IMAC using MT. Lion
    thanks in advance

    If you create either a new partition on the external or Wipe, Repartition the external, and then create a New Full TM backup on either the wiped or new partition with Lion installed as the OS and you have a Recovery HD partition that Recovery HD partitionwill be copied over to the New TM backup and will be bootable.
    TM backups made with Lion installed over the top of older ones made with Snow Leopard does not create the Recovery HD file on the TM backup drive. Only new TM backups created when Lion is installed does this.
    Ot you can create anopther partition the external and use one of the Cloning software programs to Clone your internal to that other partitions

    Paragon even has non-destriuctive conversion utility if you do want to change drive.
    Hard to imagine using 3TB that isn't NTFS. Mac uses GPT for default partition type as well as HFS+

  • What is the best way to make a DVD from iMovie

    What is the best way to make a DVD from iMovie?
    I am using iMovie 06 (Naturally) with iDVD 08. I have always used;
    iMovie 06, File > Share to iDVD 08. And got pretty good results.
    Some say the best way is to quit iMovie 06, open iDVD and import the movie from the Media button.
    I have tried both methods in the results look the same. I'm interested in getting the very best quality possible.

    You likely have one of the most expensive media converter boxes on the market today.
    But does it work well with most macs? (my guess is that it does). But more specifically can it "handshake" with an intel based mac? I personally haven't tried it.
    But you may want to read this for yourself if you haven't already:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1179361&tstart=2362
    Assuming it works then the best format is .dv which this unit will support apparently.

    What is the best way to make a list of addresses for envelopes and labels?  Address book, Pages or Numbers?

    I liek your idea of having multiple images in a grid. I think
    that would be the best bet as you mentioned. Having one big picture
    would be hard to distinguish the sub-areas with mouse coordinates.
    I think checking the coordinates for the mouse would be very
    tedious because I would have to check for the left boundary, the
    right, top, and bottom for each sub-area!
    What do you mean by using button components and reskinning.
    Is this simply using buttons and changing the way they look? I'm
    just trying to save time and memory, because if I had a 10 by 10
    grid, thats a hundred buttons. Wouldn't that slow down the machine
    alot? And for that matter wouldn't having a grid of 10 by 10 images
    also by the same deal?
    Thanks for the input, I'm just trying to find the most
    efficient way to do it.
