What is best way to send someone a QT of film?

What I mean is, how can you mail someone a dvd of the file itself? So they can
download it onto there own system?
It seems only way is that they get the video/ movie/film itself and can't copy it say to there website or whatever...how do you do it so they can download it from the dvd?
Is that possible? Is that a different file that you can make?

There is no 'data button' what you need is to send a file using a 'data dvd' this simply means burn a file on to a DVD using it as a sort of portable hard drive. You can use DVD's for the storage and distribution of data files as opposed to burning a movie etc., in the traditional way.
Have you got Toast (the CD/DVD burning software)? If so just open Toast and select the 'Data' option and choose Mac Only or Mac and PC. Drag and drop the file and, as long as it can fit on the DVD, press burn. Send this and the file can be copied from the resulting DVD.
If you do not have Toast then find the file in finder and click the 'File' menu and choose 'Burn to Disc'

Whats the best way to send multiple layers into a Motion Project

Hey all, I have a project that has multiple video layers in FCP: I'm trying to MERGE them so that I can send that MERGED layer into Motion to add additional elements. I've tried NESTING the items yet they never truly MERGE into one clip? When I send to Motion It always goes in just showing text with primary video black ? Can someone help with the correct procedure.
Here's how I got the layers in FCP
Primary video (L1)
Graphics (L2)
Text (L3)

Since I can't watch over your shoulder, I'm only guessing that your inexperience is the main problem. Merging the clips is not an option since they are from different sources. Nesting will give you all of the layers as a single video track in another sequence but that cannot be sent to Motion since it reference separate sources.
You can render your original sequence and that will, indeed, flatten the tracks into a single, flat, merged movie. but you cannot tease the layers back out into separate items.
You can explore the various ways of sending material from FCP to Motion later, here's what I'd do now: Import your video and graphics files into an empty Motion project. compose your text as a text layer in Motion.

First of all, I'd recomend resetting the iPod. Do this by pressing the 'Menu' and 'Center" buttons for 10 seconds or until the Apple logo appears.
If this doesn't work, then it sounds like a hardware fault.
To identify the issue, if you have one, try plugging the iPod into a speaker through the dock. If this works, then the issue is with the headphone jack. If not then the logic board is dead. If the iPod is less than a year old, then it can be repaired by Apple for free. Just book an appointment for the Genius bar.
If not then, you could see about sending it to an iPod Repair Company, such as my own. A replacement headphone jack would cost £30.00 in the UK, including next day delivery. Other companies you could try would beUKiPodRepairs, but we guarantee to beat any quote that you get.

use a batch file that's run each time a particular queue is selected, or is
there something I should be doing with a pconsole option? I'm trying to get
rid of extra linefeeds and enable compressed printing. DOS environment, by
the way.
The printer in question is an Ithaca Pcos Series 50 ( #52 pn-06-0629), which
isn't one of the standard ones listed in Pconsole etc. It may emulate a
standard IBM though.

Never mind, I'm in a habit of answering my own posts these days. Just create
a job configuration in printcon that uses a device with the appropriate
device modes.
Is it just me, or is Netware queue-based printing a bit on the obtuse side?
Seems like it could have been made a whole lot easier (more linear?) to set
up.

what is the best way to send different emails in batches in one
smtp session? Lets say 50 emails in one smtp session.
Is the smtp session closed after I call Transport.send() ?
In general I can not find a hint when a smtp session gets established and when
the session gets closed.

Best Way to send data from InfoProvider to DBTable

I need some advices on this subject :
I want to send some data, stocked in several InfoCubes, to a table.
This cubes are linked by a multicube (for queries).
I don't know the best way to send the data in a table :
- Use Open hub on each cube to send data
- Use ABAP code for extract data directly from MultiCube (possible?)
- Use open hub on multiprovider (I think it's not possible to plug a open hub to the Multiprovider...)
What is the best practice on that?

Best way of sending signals between two VIs

Hello all,
I have two VIs. One that generate some complicated signals (sine wave, impulse, etc.). The other one takes manually inputted voltage and pressure send them out to some hardware with a pump, and reads back the output of the pump.
What is the best way of sending the waveforms from the signal VI to the manual control VI? I still need to be able to control the signals manually in that manual control VI.

While you may not run into race conditions using global variables in a write once/read many approach they do not protect you from some part of your application deciding to write to them. FG at least provide some level of protecting access while globals do not. In addition, global variables can create multiple copies of your data. If your data is large, this can be problematic. I much prefered using a defined messaging scheme. The intent is very clear and you can provide safe guards. Even FGs are better. I personally would never recommend the use of global variables even though some cases MAY work out. A defined API is always a prefered approach and helps to keep the code modular and decoupled. This leads to greater reuse. Global variables tie things together and make reuse more difficult.

Whats the best way to go about learning C?

I'm an almost complete noob when it comes to programming. I did write a few simple pascal programs about 10 years ago at school, thats about it.
What I hope to achieve is (hopefully) not that complex, but I'm not sure where to start learning. My reason for wanting to learn is this: I really love MOC (music on console) but I ended up wanting a GUI player which still worked without the mouse. Every one I tried just isnt a patch on MOC, IMO, or just has one or other feature that doesnt work without a mouse. So it occurred to me, I have the source code for all these GUI players and the source for MOC, perhaps I can "modify" MOC and create a GUI version, or alternatively write some kind of front end to MOC.
So far, I have had a go with Glade and Anjuta IDE, but my knowledge of C being almost nonexistent is making things tough. I'm probably trying to do it wrong anyway, my thought was to create a GUI in glade and make it call functions from the moc source... :?:
So I need a crash course in C programming with Glade (I think?) and I'm not sure what the best way to proceed is.
Any tips on how best to learn? I ask here because you all seem to be the most knowledgable group I can think of

I'm not trying to discourage you, but the idea of Frankensteining all that C source into your own custom GUI music player is likely to cause nothing but hours of frustration. C is a great language for system programming, but for most application software it's far too low level and for most beginners it's far too dangerous (it lets you do bad things that can kill your app in dozens of intersting and extremely hard to debug ways).
What I would suggest is that you first off break the problem in half. Use a client/server approach. The server does all the low-level heavy lifting of decoding/decompressing the music files and sending them to your audio subsystem. Something like Music Player Daemon (MPD) is perfect for the server part and is specifically designed to be controlled by a separate client program.
Then all you have to do is write the GUI client of your dreams. For that I would recommend something like Python plus the GUI library of your choosing (Qt, GTK, wxWidgets, etc. all have nice Python bindings). Python is a far easier beginner language than C and can do much more work with much less code. You'll spend less time mucking around looking for memory leaks and invalid pointer references and more time actually making your GUI do useful work Oh, and there just happens to be a Python MPD client library so the task of communicating with the server gets even easier.

I'm trying to build a simple photo management app in java, like Picasa2. I want to be able to scroll through 100s of thumbnails. Whats the best way to manage them from a memory standpoint?
a) can I load up 100s of thumbnails into a JScrollPane? If so, will it do anything special to manage memory for the thumbnails that are offscreen?
b) should I just draw up a grid of JLabels and page through them like you would in html?
Is there another approach? Is there any special way to manage the thumbnails that are offscreen (besides loading them all in memory ) and still get a fast response time?

Regardless, I've implemented JList for images, and it works really well. For those of you who are following in my footsteps, the answer is:
JList renders ImageIcons by default.
If you want to render a JLabel with an ImageIcon set to an image, you need to write a custom ListCellRenderer, but it turns out that is not too hard. But here is a follow-up problem:
My app has JLabels that subscribe to an ImageLoader that loads images in the background. On init() the JLabel just has the ImageIcon set to a placeholder image:
          myJLabel.imgIcon = new ImageIcon();
          myJLabel.imgIcon.setImage( myPlaceholderImage );
However, once the actual image is loaded, I call a refresh method to set the ImageIcon to a new image:
          myJLabel.imgIcon.setImage( myLoadedBufferedImage );
My problem is getting the JList to render the updated JLabel. Right now, I keep a reference to the JList with myJLabel and call revalidate() on refresh, but that doesn't seem very clean.
Is there an easy/natural place to get the JList to revalidate()?
Can I easily know which JLabels are in the viewport of the JList scrollpane? That way I could revalidate only the visible JLabels or when scrolling.

Based on other comments I've seen on these forums I advised my work this week that they should send their Christmas card email by creating it in iWeb and then sending it as an HTML message by choosing "File > Mail Contents of This Page" in Safari.
The problem is the Director just called to say that one of our clients said all he could see was the text.
Any idea what has gone wrong here? And what do people recommend as the best way to send Christmas card emails?

Not every mail client is able to or setup to view HTML content in web pages. JBK's suggestion is a sure fire way to get the content of the card so that any client or platform can view it (unless they have display of image content turned off and they have to download the image file and open with an appropriate application).
