What is best way to set up Ipods for my children?  One lives with ex and I plan to use facetime and texting to communicate.  Should he have his own itunes account?

I started out by setting up under my itunes account.  When I tried the facetiming my iphone with my sons new ipod it said that I was calling even though I set it up in his name.  Also, I don't know how to try to face time him.  How do I add him as a contact to facetime him.  Also, his step sister will be setting hers up also and she will want to be able to text and face time him.  How should we go about setting all this up?  Thanks for any help and I hope I explained this well enough.

First, you should have to Apple IDs
Second, you must have a Wi-Fi connection.
Facetime Calls
To add them go to address book and put in the Apple ID username under email.
Go to facetime, click the contacts button on the bottom. Click the name they gave them. Click the email you used for their Apple ID. It should start a call with the device hooked up with that Apple ID.
Set-Up Facetime
Go to settings. Click facetime. Sign-in with the Apple ID you are using. When someone calls that address it should give you a notification.
Texting
If you are getting a new iPod you will be getting with iOS 5 wich includes iMessage to other iOS 5 devices. Just click iMessage at the home screen and type in the name of the person with the Apple ID you want to text OR type in the Apple ID you want to text. You should start a convorsation with the iDevice hooked up to that Apple ID.
Set-Up iMessage (a.k.a. Texting)
Go to settings. Click iMessage. Sign-in with the Apple ID you are using. When someone texts that address it will notify you.
Hope I helped!

She would need her own Apple ID, though not an iTunes Store account per se. This article will probably be of help:

    No.
One of you create a new AppleID and one use the existing AppleID.
But you can still use the items in each iTunes library.
Create separate computer logins for each of you.
This will give you each your own data. Contacts, calendars, photos, etc. (and your own iTunes library).

I plan to loan my iPod Touch to a friend here in the USA for one month to use on his trip to Europe.  How can I keep my iTunes content and my account private, but enable him to create his own iTunes account to use on my iPod Touch?  Also, do I need to de-register my iPod Touch for all of this to happen--and have him register my iPod Touch in his name for that month he is using it in Europe?

The suggested advice in this support article http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1478 wasn't a help at all, because the option "enable disc use" in the summary window of itunes doesn't appear.
    *From the article*:
    Products Affected
iTunes 7 for Mac, iTunes 7 for Windows, iPod nano, iPod shuffle, iPod mini, iPod, iTunes 8 for >Windows, iTunes 8 for Mac
No mention of the Touch, it works differently from other iPods and has no "disk mode" as such.
I think it can be used as a storage device by using a 3rd party App, search the the App Store for such items.
Photos transferred to your Touch via iTunes will be of severely compromised quality i.e 640x480 pixel resolution and file size around 600-700 kb. These can be retrieved, again using a 3rd party application on your computer, such as [Touch Copy|http://www.wideanglesoftware.com/touchcopy> but you will not get back original quality images.
    Good luck,

  • DD got new laptop(Windows 8). I would like for her to have her own iTunes account.  However she has been syncing her iPod to my account for 2years and has an abundance of music/movies that we don't want to buy again.  Any way to share them to her new PC?

My daughter got a new laptop for Christmas (windows 8).  I would like to set up her own iTunes account on her laptop.  Our dilema is she has been syncing her iPod to my account for 2 years now, therefore, she has an abundance of music (purchased through iTunes store) and movies (downloaded via digital download from DVD/BluRay purchases) that we don't want to have to purchase all over again.  Is there any way to share some/all of my account with her so she can sync her iPod to her laptop in the future?
I have been reading about Home Sharing but I am not sure this is the approach I am after.  Will home sharing work to allow her to alter and change the content on her PC without changing/altering it on mine?  Will it allow her to sync her iPod with her PC?
I suppose I should also add that we are currently running 2 iPod touches, 2 iPads and an iPhone from my apple ID.  I am not even sure if I would be able to add her PC as a device for home sharing if that is an option for us.
Any and all guidance is greatly appreciated.

I set up my iPad 2 on my cousins MacPc, I dont have a computer or iTunes. Can I download my own apps and songs now or do i need to do eveything from his iTunes? Do I need my own iTunes account to get apps? Help I dont really know what or how to do it.

Install iTunes on your Acer and you can back up the iPhone. Or back it up to iCloud. If you do not back it up you can get it unlocked, but you will lose all of your content.
You can get iTunes from http://www.apple.com/itunes.
Even after unlocking I'm not sure it will work on Straight Talk, because last time I checked ST used Verizon as its carrier, and an AT&T iPhone 4 is not compatible with Verizon's network. You can probably use it on Net 10 or T-Mobile once it is unlocked.

  • How can my 7yr old have her own iTunes account to sync to her iPod, when our only other home computers are all already linked into other iTunes accounts and other iPods?

My husband, my 13yr old, and myself all have our own computers, with our own iTunes accounts which sync up to our own iPods. But now my 7yr old has her iPod (nano) and wants to put her own songs on it, but we aren't sure how to go about doing that since each computer already only recognizes our own iPods. • Best way to set up iPod Touch for kids

Ok, I know that this has been asked before, but I couldn't find a similar question SINCE Mountain Lion was released, and wasn't sure what iCloud changes have happened since, so here I am asking the question again.
I've bought our two oldest girls (aged 11 & 10) an iPod Touch each (4th generation models) for Christmas. Now, both my wife and I have iPhone 5s, sharing one Apple ID for iTunes purposes (music, apps, etc) but separate iCloud accounts for Find My Phone, Calendars, Reminders etc. This is all managed on my MacBook Pro and on the iPhones themselves.
Now, on our iMac (running Mountain Lion), we have a user account for every member of the family. We don't use the iMac for our iPhones, although our Apple ID is used in my account for the purpose of AirPlay mirroring on the Apple TV.
Now, the older girls are at an age where they are starting to get independent. They do have an email address each (neither uses these too much yet), one has an account with Skype for chatting to school friends, etc. So I was thinking it would make sense to give them the ability to connect their iPod touches to iTunes on their individual accounts on the iMac. (They'd probably have to share an Apple ID so as not to have to pay for the same apps, games, music, etc, twice). But is this the best way to go?
Or do I set up a new user account on the iMac (for them to share) for use only with their iPod touches?
Or do I just control it all myself via my MacBook Pro? (Not sure how practical this will be as they get older and more "private").
I guess I want them to have the freedom to purchase music on their devices (I know I could set up an account with a monthly top up) but at the same time I want to have some control as well, so will be setting restrictions on their devices.
Any other suggestions, tips? Any other issues or considerations?
    Thanks.
    Joe.

  • What is best way to set up apple id for family?

We have 4 people in same family with Apple devices- 4 ipods and iphone.  We currently all share same apple id for purchasing and sharing songs and apps.  However when we sync we get each others contacts (i use mine for my business so my kids now have all my contacts on there phone and vice versa). Now my duaghter is getting my texts that should be going to my phone on her ipod. I dont know what she did or why this is happening other than she did something to her ipod messaging in settings.  How do we create separate id's for each for everything except purchases for each family member and still use common for purchases?
    Jamie

iCloud has nothing to do with your iTunes or App store accoutns.
All Apple services use AppleIDs as the account login credentials.  So any service or services that you set up using the same AppleID will be on a common account.
To set your kids up with their own Game Center accounts, they do not need iCloud at all.  What they need are their own, unique AppleIDs to use when logging in to Game Center.
    1. Separate AppleIDs = separate Game Center Accounts.  iCloud has nothing to do with it.
    2. yes, when the log in with new AppleIDs they will be starting over from scratch.  Game center accounts are tied to an AppleID, so if you change the AppleID you change the Game Center account (no way around that for any Apple Service).
    3.  Again, your iTunes & App Store accounts are tied to an AppleID, nothing whatsoever to do with iCloud.  As long as you all keep using the same AppleID for the stores, then you will continue to share all purchased content as it will all have been purchased with the same account (= the same AppleID).
    4.  iCloud is an email and online storeage service from Apple.  When you create an iCloud account, it is tied to the AppleID in use at the time you create the account.  So, if you wish to keep your email, and your sync'd content separate from others, then you should create an iCloud account with an AppleID that only you use.
Same thing goes for iMessage.  If you all create iMessage accounts with the same AppleID, you will all be sharing the exact same messaging account.
You can have as many AppleIDs as you wish (or have email addresses for), and you can use a different one for every single Apple service offered, if you wished to.  In your case, it sounds like you want to all share one AppleID for the iTunes & App store, but create separate AppleID(s) for things you wish to keep private, like Game Center, iCloud and iMessage.

  • What is best way to get LCD display for Mac mini?

Just got Mac Mini but when I connect it to my Samsung LCD the display quality is crap.  What is the best way to get HD resolution, (maximum quality) from this set up?

    Thanks,
I did try all of the settings on the LCD display.  It is 1,920 x 1,080 pixels.  Built in 2011 by Samsung as a HD TV, computer monitor and audio/video combo.  I just let the Mac mini select the appropriate settings when I did initial startup last night.  I It came with an HDMI to DVI adapter which (to me) implies I need to get the male end of the DVI adapter to connect to the 9 pin (PC input).  Current HDMI is working but just not the "wow factor" that I expected from the Mac mini.  Compatibiltiy issue of some kind; input/output, settings, software update, or user error   Was trying to avoid getting a new monitor.

  • Whats the best way to get a description for a code

    Hi,
What is the best way to find description for a code, when both of them resides in different table.I have to do this like 3 times for different codes. The code and description lies in differnt table.
Can i use select statement.. if yes, what operator should i use?
    Thanks

    Hi,
to do a lookup you may either use the Key Lookup Operator (it makes it easier to define default return values if the lookup fails) or a Joiner (to probably outer join your lookup table).
If you have many lookups you can do them in one joiner instead of having a key lookup operator for every one of them to reduce the total number of operators in your mapping.

  • Best way to set up wireless for roaming RDP user to prevent disconnects

I am trying to resolve a wireless issue for a busy medical office I work at; it is an 11,000 sf building with many exam rooms and offices, and 20-30 wireless users. We tried placing three WAP4410N devices around the building on different channels with a shared SSID, so that users would have connectivity anywhere in the building. The medical assistants and doctors connect to their EMR software using laptops connected via RDP and we seem to have an issue with connections dropping briefly when they move throughout the building. The disruption is enough that their RDP connections often become unresponsive and they have to take time to disconnect and reconnect again. The other issue is that the laptops would jump to a stronger signal when, for instance, a nurse walked to the front of the building to get a patient and came close to a different WAP, but then when they came back to the exam area, the device would hang onto that signal as it grew very weak instead of jumping back to the closer WAP.
We've also had issues with the a couple of the devices becoming completely unresponsive but I am hoping the firmware update will fix that. Is there a way to make this work properly with this model of router? How many devices should we need for full coverage?  If they just aren't up to this task, what should we be looking at to replace them? From what I have been able to research, what we are looking for is 'seamless roaming' and these devices don't support that. But I was told by a support tech that even the Aironet WAPs will have a few dropped packets going between APs so I would hate to upgrade yet again and still have the problem remain.
    Thanks,
    Chris

Hi, My name is Eric Moyers. I am a Network Support Engineer in the Cisco Small Business Support Center. Thank you for using the Cisco Community Post Forums.
The issue your describing is normal for WAP4410N's.
Since there is not a wireless controller used with those WAPs, there is no way to control the roaming so that it is seamless. Without the controller, wireless signals actually have to drop before they can move from one signal to another.
The only solution to get seamless roaming is to include a wireless controller into your network. The small business APs in our current inventory do not support.
Aironets with a wireless controller is your best solution. Would just need to see what Cisco has that works within your budget.
    Thanks
