last week pc worked fine...
this week downloaded 3.6.4 firefox and everything now crashing cant use u-tube or or listen again facility...
come on fire fox get your act together...

The Malwarebytes web page is available. I just checked it, so the problem is somewhere on your end.
That '''''Error 105 (net::ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED)''''' makes '''rjohnson19''''s suggestion valid. I did not see that in your initial post.
Did the problem start ''<u>'''immediately'''</u>'' following your un-install of McAfee and install of Norton?
Did you use the McAfee removal instructions (including the McAfee Consumer Products Removal tool (MCPR.exe))? See: http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=TS100507
Note that Norton also has a removal tool: http://service1.symantec.com/support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039
*Is Norton properly configured for Firefox? See: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Firewalls
*Are you having problems accessing any web sites other than anti-malware sites?
*Have you tried updating Norton? Does it update?
*Try going to the McAfee site and see if you can get in.
*Did you try to download Malwarebytes from another non-infected computer at another location as I suggested?
*You may also need to access that Malwarebytes forum page from another non-infected computer.
*Call a friend, give them the addresses and see if they can access both of the Malwarebytes addresses.
*If they can, then that will confirm what I suspect; that you have a malware infection that will keep you from downloading, installing or updating anti-malware applications.
If this is being caused by malware, you may need help from one of these expert sites (all free, just read their requirements and follow the instructions they give you):

  • McAfee is blocking Plugin Container for FF. C:\programfiles\mozilla firefox\plugin-container.exe. Is this safe for me to override McAfee's sugg?

I really don't know what a plugin or extention is. Currently I'm running a small calendar and a small weather widget on my screen. These have been installed for several years, before I installed McAfee last year.
Waiting to hear from you to tell me if I should "always allow, Allow once, or Block". Thank you. Karen

hello JCW2 - yes, it's a legitimate part of firefox - all plugins (like flash videos) are running within plugin-container.exe, so it should be allowed full access to the internet for plugin content to work properly (i'm not sure what "FTPZone" means within your firewall though)...

  • I'm trying to download and run Firefox but keep getting an "error creating directory" message. C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\res\dtd What do I need to do to fix this?

It shows under the message, the following:
    C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\res\dtd
What do I need to do to fix this?

    * Download a fresh Firefox copy from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html and save the file to the desktop.
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
    * Don't remove personal data if you uninstall the current version.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere (not in the Firefox program folder) and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

    Please do the following.<br><br>
#Go to [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/fx/?ref=logo Download Firefox 5.0.1] and download the installation file to your desktop. If necessary, download it using Internet Explorer, but in that event, choose "'''Save'''" when you see the prompt and save it to the desktop. ''Do not choose "Run"''. <br><br>
#Then go to Add/Remove Programs, scroll down to "Mozilla Firefox" and remove it, choosing to keep your bookmarks, customizations etc., (''don't checkmark the box'').<br><br>
#Then reboot and delete the folder called "Mozilla Firefox" at this location: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox<br><br>
#Finally run the installation file you downloaded to the desktop earlier.<br>
Your bookmarks, customizations etc., are maintained in a different location and will become available to you again once you complete the installation.<br><br>
As a precaution, make a backup of your Bookmarks as follows:<br><br>
    #Press CTRL+SHIFT+B to open the Bookmarks Manager.<br><br>
#Click the link to '''Import and Backup '''and then click '''Export HTML '''and save the file somewhere.
You can use this file at any time to restore your bookmarks should that prove to be necessary. Simply reverse the procedure and choose "Import HTML" instead.
N.B. If you use a download accelerator, disable it before you attempt to download Firefox. These utilities are a frequent cause of extraction failures.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • When I click on my Firefox desktop shortcut, this message appears "The application or DLL C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\MOZCRT19.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your instillation diskette". I cannot enter the program.

I believe that my question gave all the details. I am wireless in my home and the other computers connected to this wireless have no problem getting into Firefox. What is MOZCRT19?

    clementem,
This means there is a problem with the files you need to run Firefox.
    Try a clean reinstall:
    1. Download the Firefox installer from [http://mozilla.com Mozilla.com] and save it to your desktop or other location.
    2. Make sure that Firefox is closed completely
    3. Delete the Firefox installation directory (On Windows, this is typically the C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox folder that contains "firefox.exe" and other Firefox program files and folders).
    4. Reinstall Firefox by running the installer you downloaded previously.
Your personal settings, including bookmarks and history, will not be lost.

  • When I open Firefox I receive the following message on the open tab: jar:file:///C:/Program Files/Mozilla Firefox/chrome/en-US.jar!/locale/branding/browserconfig.properties.

I have been slowly loading more plugins and extensions for Firefox, as I found that I had a conflict and Firefox would freeze. Two (2) days ago I used Firefox Sync for the first time. After I rebooted my computer, I found that when I opened Firefox I receive this message "jar:file:///C:/Program Files/Mozilla Firefox/chrome/en-US.jar!/locale/branding/browserconfig.properties."
I use Speed Dial as my home page and at the same time I received this message, Speed Dial stopped working, unless I click on the "open a new tab" button.
I opened the container for the file listed above, and I show that the file is in the folder.
I tried reinstalling Firefox in case there was a corrupt setting, however it hasn't helped

Caused by the Firefox Sync extension. Reset your Homepage to Default.

  • Firefox will not open on my computer, even after reinstall, with no error message or when I try to run "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -p. Help?

I recently installed firefox so I could use an adblocker. It installed just fine, and it worked just fine for about three days. Then yesterday it stopped opening. I'm on a Toshiba running Windows 7. The icon highlights when I click on it, but then it stops and won't open the browser at all. When I try to run it with the manual command "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -p, I get the error message, "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\ refers to a location that is unavailable. It could be on a hard drive on this computer, or on a network. Check to make sure that the disk is properly inserted, or that you are connected to the Internet or your network, and then try again. If it still cannot be located, the information might have been moved to a different location." I installed it to that location, and I don't need a disk. I'm connected to the Internet just fine and my other browsers (Chrome and IE) work the same as always. But they're swamped with ads and I really was happy wih Firefox when it was opening...how can I fix this issue?

Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
'''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    #**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
Please report back to see if this helped you!

  • I can't uninstall Firefox(3.6.3) either through the control panel or by going to Program files/Mozilla Firefox/Uninstall and running the helper.exe, I have Windows 7 Home Premium(64bit)

I simply want to uninstall Mozilla FireFox 3.6.3. I tried both recommendations of using the control panel to add/remove program and running the helper.exe in Program Files/Mozilla FireFox/uninstall. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium Edition(64bit). When I tried to remove it using the add/remove program and helper.exe all it does is start for a split second(mouse pointer turns into circular loading icon) and then it stops.

    Hi Guys,
    I had this same problem too, and i want to share to all of you my own fix for this kind of problem;
(READ FIRST: ''This step will wipeout everything that mozilla saved on your computer including : password, history and bookmarks''.)'''
    '''1. download the Revo Uninstaller''''''
    - quick step guide for this:
select mozilla firefox, don't forget to uninstall everything that relates to mozilla including registry to clean them all up.
    '''2. download mozilla firefox again'''
    - AND REINSTALL. however on this stage, in some cases mozilla will not open at this stage.
'''3. Uninstall Mozilla firefox again NOW using control panel.'''
'''4. Restart the computer to refresh everything.'''
'''5. Reinstall mozilla firefox again, once you have received the prompt for "exporting or importing etc.. etc.. from Microsoft" that means its already working.. it will take around 5-10 sec to load up (in my case) .'''

  • I get the following message: Mozilla Firefox plugin-container has stopped working properly. What do I do?

the message:" Mozilla Firefox plugin-container has stopped working properly" appears regularly in my maintenance center. I am on Windows 7 and Firefox 3.6.17

I had the same type of failure. It was caused by a FF upgrade from V4 to V9.1. Dearing 1955 did not say what version caused the problem. My USB ports started acting up. I could not install the Webcam that was installed before. The HP Scanner of my OJ 8500 stopped working (USB). Did get it to work via Wireless. Removing FF did not clear the problem. Believe I have infected USB driver now.
