What is "Camera Calibration" for?
What is "Camera Calibration" in Camera Raw? Is it for making adjustments to digital cameras to render more accurate color in Camera Raw? Or just for fine-tune RAW images?
because we live in a real world where there are no two things exactly the same and this also includes cameras of course. The profiles are a good starting point but if you find that they don't quite work and get constant blue tinting for instance then you can set those sliders to correct the problem inside the camera. The process usually involves photographing a color chart and then trying to match the colors on screen with the actual numbers

Camera Calibration for Sony A500
When I go into the camera calibration for shots taken with my Sony A500, the *only* thing that appears in the profile drop-down is "Adobe Standard". Does that mean that there isn't a profile available for the A500?
" the fact that there aren't other profiles simply means that Adobe has not created other profiles that simulate in-camera rendering styles for your camera model."
So can anyone confirm that these in-camera rendering styles / profiles are not available for the A500?
And in general, if you haven't bought a Canon or Nikon, should you just expect that LR doesn't love you as much? -
In am a Nikon shooter. Along with Adobe Standard, the Nikon Picture Control names are listed in the drop-down box for LR camera calibration presets. When I select one of the Nikon Picture Control names for camera calibration, I'd like to understand if LR is only applying the settings which appear in Camera Calibration screen (shadow tint, and the R, G, and B hue and saturation), or is LR somehow also applying any of the other Develop settings associated with the Nikon Picture Control (sharpening, contrast, brightness)? I understand that I could change sharpening, contrast and brightness using Develop presets, but I'd like to understand whats going on the Lightroom calibration area first so that I do not overdo or duplicate the edits.
The camera profiles also contain a tone curve.

Camera Calibration for photos in photoshop, Help!
Hello,
I just did a great shoot and the images came out great! but for some reason when I open them in Cs4 they look "dry" and unsaturated. When I view them in Bridge they look awesome as well as on my camera's screen. I shot in raw using my camera's vivid setting. It seems that both my camea's screen and Bridge honor the vivid setting but photoshot does not! How can I load a camera vivid color calibration setting onto photoshop so that my images come out as intended??
thanks for any help!
-DanielI too like my Camera Raw images to match my camera JPEGs, but you'll find that many folks will criticize you for wanting that. They can go pound sand. It's no sin to like the color your camera produces.
First rule of thumb is this: Photoshop does not read your camera "style" settings, nor does Adobe make a particularly strong effort to match the colors your camera produces.
That doesn't mean you can't get your starting point for raw conversions closer than what you're getting now, with your favorite set of camera settings.
What I ended up doing to accomplish that was this:
Took some images in raw mode with my favorite default camera settings.
Dragged the images into Camera Raw.
Also opened the embedded JPEGs using a viewer application.
Selected the Camera Standard profile in the Camera Calibration section of Camera Raw, which usually gets you to a closer starting point than the normal Adobe default.
I then tweaked the settings in the HSL / Grayscale section and a few other places so that my viewer-based images and my Camera Raw previews visually matched very well.
Saved the settings as Camera Raw Defaults.
Now, when I open a raw file, the default settings start out so that my images look virtually identical to my camera JPEGs.
Best of luck getting there.

I'm using Nikon D610 and I shoot in RAW files. However, when I import my files using Lightroom and when I wanted to change the camera profile under the camera calibration tab, I could only find those profiles of Adobe standard, camera standard etc. What should I do so that I could choose the profile for Nikon D610 standard etc...?
Each and every camera model supported by LR / ACR will have an Adobe Standard profile which is created specifically for the camera model.
The camera profiles you are seeing when you have a raw file from your Nikon D610 are specific to that camera. Its just the Adobe naming convention. -
Camera Calibration "Fors script in PS Cs
I have done a calibration using the Gretagmacbeth Color chart, for each of my Olympus cameras E300 and E20 which are supported by ACR 2.4 in PS CS using the Fors ACR calibration script. The profiles have not been updated since that version and show as such in Lightroom.
The results have been input in the Lightroom Camera Calibration settings, as recommended in the Lightroom book by Martin Evening, and I am happy with improvement this has provided to the color rendition of my raw files.
However I am wondering if another calibration is run with the script using PS CS3 if the result will be different and improved? Any help would be appreciated.I doubt there would be any difference, except that if you are running CS3 on a latest Intel processors you should see a significant reduction in processing times. One thing that was pointed out to me is that if you have the calibration settings stored in the xmp metadata from a file editied in Photoshop, it is easier to just create a new calibrate setting for Lightroom from the imported file.

Camera Calibration - Fors script.
Many months ago I ran the "Fors Script" in PS CS to obtain calibration for my Olympus E300 (support was provided for this camera in ACR 2.4) and this has worked well for me in Lightroom.
I recently purchased an Olympus E510 (support provided in ACR 4.3.1) and need to produce calibration settings for this camera.
a. Is it necessary/important that the script be run in PS CS3 bearing in mind that LR/ACR 4.4.1 has updated camera profiles?.
b. Would I get the same result if I converted the .orf to .dng with the latest dng converter and run the script in PS CS?.
c. Is it advisable to run a new calibration for the E300?.a & b) I would simply convert E-510 ORF to DNG and calibrate with CS. How well it works needs to be evaluated by you, but it should be possible.
c) I don't see a need to calibrate the E-300 again. That is and maybe I don't understand your question, but how would running the cal again be different?
How well CS/ACR2 works with the Fors script relative to the current ACR version is the unanswered question. -
Convert Fujifilm Classic Chrome camera calibration for X-T1 to X-E2?
I have an X-E2 that has the Classic Chrome calibration profile with the new Fuji 3.0.0 firmware.
However, Lightroom 5.7 doesn't recognize that change, even though it does activate for the X-T1.
Is there a way to extract or convert the X-T1's profile and adapt or rename it to work with the X-E2 when working with RAW RAF files, rather than with the in-camera JPGs?
Alternately, is Adobe planning on enabling the Classic Chrome profile for the X-E2 since it has that profile in the new firmware?
Thanks. The latest version of LR which is 5.7.1 was released Dec 15th with functionality finalized sometime before then. The X-E2 firmware that includes Classic Chrome was released Dec 18th. These camera-match profiles that simulate Fuji shooting modes, while not supplied as external .dcp files like other Adobe camera-match profiles, are still created by Adobe and coded into the software, and there's no way LR could duplicate something that Fuji released several days later.
The good news, or at least hope for LR users, is that Adobe's Camera Raw 8.8 plug-in for Photoshop does include the Classic Chrome profile as a selection for the X-E2, so Adobe has figured out how to do it:
The bad news is that there hasn't been a LR 5.8 to match the ACR 8.8 plug-in.
I believe this is because Adobe never intended to have even an ACR 8.8 but released it so people with the new E-M5 Mark II could work with their camera's raw files. Getting a plug-in release ready is much easier than an entire LR program so I doubt Adobe will release a LR 5.8 and will go straight to LR 6, unless LR 6 is delayed for several more months. From what I'd guess, there isn't a LR 5.x team that is independent of the LR 6 team, so if Adobe stopped work on LR 6 to push out a LR 5.8, that would delay LR 6 even further into the future, and there may be some hard date, like an international photography conference, somewhere, that Adobe wants to announce LR 6 at so they can't afford to delay it longer than it already has been.
Photoshop is paid for on a monthly basis, now, so announcements about what's new aren't as important as LR, which is still available as a standalone upgrade, so adding new features will generate more revenue for Adobe and the time to announce those new features will generate more buzz at some times of year than others. -
CS6 Beta questions: skin tones, camera calibration in Camera RAW
While this is supposed to be a fully functional version, I am missing the Patch and Move content aware tools, the Skin Tones function does not work, there is no camera calibration except for Adobe Standard available under Camera RAW 7.0 and none of the links uder "Help" work. When I try to look for updates I am assured that I have the latest version. Does this sound right to you? Am I just not looking in the right places for these features or are they indeed not available in Beta, in which case it is of course impossible to try them out.
Thanks very much, Pattie. I was not holding down the Healing brush. That all works fine now. However, what about camera profiles for camera calibration in Camera Raw 7.0 and why don't the skin tones work? I am using a reasonably new HP laptop with plenty of horsepower and Windows 7. Here is my system info. Can you help further?

LR RC - Lens Profiles & Camera Calibration (Panasonic left out?)
I don't see any Lens Profiles for Panasonic in the latest release - is there an initiative underway on that?
Similarly the Camera Calibration for Panasonic cameras simply offers an 'Abobe Standard' Profile whereas for various Canon, Nikon & Pentax models additional Profile options for Landscape, Portrait, Vivid etc etc are included. Will the cameras given that range of coverage be expanded?Addendum
Yes, I made my own Lens Profiles for my older cameras, but hoped that a current model (in this case a G3 Panasonic) would have a Profle built by Adobe. -
What does "Camera Profile" mean in the Camera Calibration tab in PSE 12?
I recently made the switch to edit exclusively in Photoshop Elements 12. I need help understanding what I need to select for the "Camera Profile" drop down in the Camera Calibration tab. I shoot with a Canon Mark II. Will the camera profile selection affect my prints at all? First, what does the camera profile mean? I go back and forth between Adobe Standard and Camera Standard. Sometimes I get truer color with Camera Standard than the Adobe Standard for my outside photos. I'm so confused as to which one I should be editing with. I just want to be sure this is not going to affect my prints because I just recently ordered a print from Millers and it was saturated, shadowing and skin had orange tone. I have never had a problem with my calibration and have always ordered from Millers with no problem. This is the first print I ordered after editing exclusively with PSE 12 so I'm wondering if I have setting wrong. Thanks so much!
Will the camera profile selection affect my prints at all?
It will affect prints to the same extent that it affects the monitor display, but no more than that. The differences that you see in color rendering when switching between profiles will be embodied in the jpg that you eventually make for sending to the print lab, but will not in itself cause the discrepancies you describe. -
Camera Calibration profiles for Leica M 240
Hi Forum
I'm using LR to process DNG files from Leica M 240.
I understand LR has some extra profiles ( "Camera Faithful, Camera Portrait, etc" ) for some Canon and Nikon camera models.
As under "Camera Calibration -> Profile" I can only see "Embedded" or "Adobe Standard", does it mean these extra profiles don't exist for Leica M 240 ?
Thank you all for any clarification.Embedded is what you will always see on JPEG images. Adobe standard is the one you will see on your raw images. If you want additional profiles you will have to download the DNG profile creator and make your own. If Adobe standard is all you have then that is all Adobe is providing for your camera.

Missing camera calibration profile for supported camera
I am relatively new to Lightroom. I have imported Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200 raw (.RW2) files into Lightroom 5.3. When I go into the Develop module under the Camera Calibration the only profile that shows up is Adobe Standard. My camera is supported according to the Adobe web site. What gives?
Bob, like the above post mentioned, I am also fairly new to Lightroom and still learning a lot of how things are suppose to work. I'm sure my problem is similar to the above post but can you please clarify this for me one more time. In my case...
I use a PC running Windows 7.
I'm running Lightroom 4.4.1, Camera Raw 7.4
I import photos from a Pentax K20D camera.
In the "Develop" module under "Camera Calibration" I only see 4 profiles which are "embedded," "ACR 4.4," "Adobe Standard" and "Camera Standard."
Is everything correct? Am I suppose to see a camera profile for my Pentax Camera? If so, how do I properly install a camera profile for my Pentax K20D camera?
I followed the path C:\ProgramData\Adobe\CameraRaw\CameraProfiles and I found the "Adobe Standard" folder and in there where tons of camera profiles. I also found the camera folder and it had also different camera model folders in there including my Pentax K20D, however nothing shows up in Lightroom itself under camera calibration.
Can you please clarify how all this works? Thanks! -
Point registration using cpd for camera calibration
Hi,
I do not know whether or not I could use Point Set Registration: Coherent Point Drift (CPD) for correcting the error of my 3d positioning using an overhead camera.
I have already done the intrinstic and extrinsic camera calibration but I still have errors between the measuremed position of my tracking object and it's true location. ( I track a board with 4 blobs which should give me the x,y,z of the tracking board)
I would like to find the mapping between my measurements and true positions for those measurements which I can then use for new points to decrease the positioning error.
I have been playing around in matlab with the cpd code here https://sites.google.com/site/myronenko/research/cpd
I can find the transform but I dont know how to use it for new data points. It seems like the transformation matrice is a set of weights for each data point that it has been given. I added new points to the Y set and I get a new position for those points which seems to be ok but I really have no idea how the method deals with the unseen points or how the transformation can be used for your new data.
Thanks a lot for your helpHi zeinab.t,
I am not quite sure what you exactly want to know.
From your explanations, I think to root issue is a not correct calibration of the vision system. To go a bit deeper:
Calibration is used most frequently for stereo vision systems to calibrate two camera to get a correct 3D image in the acquisition. You wrote, that you are using only one camera. So how do you calibrate the camera? Which functions do you use? How is your vision application setup? A small draft may be helpful. Waht software do you use?
About the tool you used in the link, I can not say anything, since I do not know, how this works in the background.
I think we should keep our eyes to the root cause problem, so you do not need any transformation things that could potentially bring errors into the measurements.
Best regards,

Camera Calibrations Missing in LR 3 for 20D, 30D and 5D MII
I am using raw, yet all I get for camera
calibrations are the custom settings. Can someone tell me where to download the preset calibrations for these cameras?jim knoy wrote:

Jim,
I don't quite understand what you mean by "custom settings". Are you refering to "Camera Standard", "Camera Portrait", "Camera Landscape" and so on?
All the profiles you see in the Camera Calibration Tab are specifically (and only) made for the camera which took the RAW file you're looking at. So if you see a "Camera Standard" for a RAW of your 20D, you're actually using a profile named "Canon EOS 20D Camera Standard.dcp" on your system.
