What is causing my Mac to crash during the sleep mode?

Hello!
I would to have your help on this situation that i am having for a month or so...  Ok... it started about a month ago, I turned it on and all of the sudden, it shut down, then rebooted on its own... (actually it rebooted like 3 or 4 times before running the system) I thought that it was odd.  I had my Tech to look over and see what was causing to crash and all... he could not find anything then we all decided to leave it running all time... so we did.  a week or two later, it just crashed when i woke the sleep mode and it went on the usual route as crashed and rebooted two or three times before going back to normal.
sound familiar to you guys?  after that happened, we turned off the sleep mode and so far, it is doing good...  decided not to update the system's Security software because it may have something to cause the mac to crash down...
the mac is  2 x 3 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon, 8 Gb 667 MHZ DDR2 FB-DIMM, running on 10.6.8
appreciate your help on this.

One more thing....  it makes weird sounds as well... very high pitch sounds that you hear in movies where UFO flying by while it is doing the rebooting...

  • Encore WT8 - battery discharging during the sleeping mode

My battery is discharging during the sleeping mode.
If I sleep the tablet with battery fully charged then battery is fully discharged after 14h.
I suppose that must be something wrong with it. I cant find any option to activate functionality to switch off (hibernate) tablet when it is not used in sleeping mode for particular time.
Do you have any solution or advice what I should do to change energy consumption during the sleeping mode?

    Hi
The system supports connected stand by function which starts working after your tablet goes into sleep mode.
Connected standby function is to provide a constant connectivity while delivering long battery life and at the same time some activities are allowed to run to ensure that the supported connected standby scenarios (for example receiving emails, updating tiles alive with fresh content, downloading/uploading a file from a/to a website and playing music) are functioning properly.
    What does this mean?
This means that even if the tablet is set into Sleep Mode, some background processes are still running and this could be the reason why the battery discharges.

  • What's causing my mac to crash?

I'm running a Macbook Pro, 2008 model. For about a week, my mac has started to completely freeze up. I'm assuming that this is a crash. The only solution I have found is to hold down the power key for a few seconds until it shuts off. When the startup chime sounds, more often than not it will freeze again before the login screen apppears. Multiple reboots usually result in firing my machine back up.
The only change I can think of that I have made is installing the software and drivers for a Brother printer/scanner.
Also, this error code appeared upon restart, maybe this could help us figure this out.

Thanks! Let me give you some more information about what's going on.
I'm running Snow Leopard on a 2008 Macbook Pro, 2.4Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo.
For the last two weeks, my machine has been freezing up, with no particular cause that I can infer a pattern from. It will either completely freeze, and the cursor won't move at all, or it will move, but I can't click on anything or do a restart via the keyboard shortcut. The cursor does wierd things during this, such as verticle lines appearing in a square shape (this picure is turned sideways...sorry).
When it freezes up, I have to manually power off to restart. This usually leads to another problem: during the white screen with the Apple logo and the chime, the spinning cog will stop spinning after a few seconds, and it will freeze up indefinately. I have to turn off/on sometimes 10 or 15 times to get it to start up properly. When it does boot up, it runs fine, just like always, but sooner or later, it will crash again.
Here's what I've tried: Repairing disk permissions, running the hardware diagnostic with the osx disc (everything checked out ok), I've verified the disk (seems to be ok), and I've carefully monitored the temperature of the machine, which hasn't gone unusually high.
When the machine won't boot up, I've tried Safe Boot (doesn't work, still freezes) and resetting the PRAM (doesn't work).
    Any ideas?

  • What is causing my system to crash all the time.

This is the report that is being sent to Apple. What happens to these reports anyway?

One more thing....  it makes weird sounds as well... very high pitch sounds that you hear in movies where UFO flying by while it is doing the rebooting...

  • Crashes during the save process

Okay, so now that we’ve determined that I DO have the PrE 8.0.1 update/patch… I need to figure out why I am unable to save the video I’ve spent days working on.
As I stated in the last discussion concerning the update, I am in possession of a fairly high-speed computer that should be able to handle this kind of work.
I believe I’ve seen some other folks having problems because of the type of video they are using or importing… What kind of video should I convert to if PrE 8.0.1 doesn’t like what I am using? Oh and I have gotten the message to “Save often because you are running low on system memory” WHICH IS UNBELIEVABLE!!!
So here we go. The video that I am trying to save is approx. 10 minutes in length and is made up of still .jpg photos and videos taken from a Canon SX210 IS. I sure hope that is helpful. I looked at the file types and they are .mov files.
One other thing that may be helpful in identifying the problem… and is quite interesting… after the program crashes during the saving process, I can always go to the save location and find the entire PLAYABLE video saved in the format that I wanted (which was MP4). The only thing is that there are three separate files. 1) Complete clear audio 2) Complete clear video and 3) A third unknown file type that I can’t open. Quite strange. Oh and if you’re wondering if I tried to add open those two (Audio and Video) files in PrE and save them together yes, I did… And it crashed again.
    Bob

    Bob,
Here is SOMETHING to think about, regarding the Memory/Resources error messages.
This ARTICLE might be helpful at finding clues as to what could be causing the problem.
The links in this ARTICLE will help provide you with some very useful tools for checking programs and Processes, like Process Explorer.
As for the inability to Save, I would try a Save_As, and see if that helps, and does the trick. If not, try Save_As_a_Copy.
When you do Save, do you get any error messages, or does the program just not Save the Project file (.PREL)?
In case it's a system issue, can you tell us about your system in detail? Aspects like the I/O sub-system, i.e. the HDD's, their size, speed, free space, controller type(s) and how they are allocated, will be very useful.
If you are working with SD material, converting to DV-AVI Type II w/ 48KHz 16-bit PCM/WAV Audio, will be as good as it gets.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

I have continuously over the last 6 months struggled with syncing my iphone and ipod with itunes  The app continually crashes during the picture import.  AND by the way it takes 10-15 minutes before it even attempts to import photos.  The screen says importing photoes but doesnt try to optimize or anything for 10 minutes.  I have a 3gs with 16Gb so its not a cheap phone.  I have 10Gb free.  I have 6600 photoes.  This is very frustrating and undermines my confidence in your products.  My ipod is an ipod 4 with 16Gb also.  It does the exact same thing to it.  The last time, I had to import photoes a few at the time and with it taking 10-15 minutes each time for 6600 photos it is a long frustrating process.  But it will import every photo a few at a time.  The error message is just that itunes has stopped working.  no hint as to why. AND of course, my phone is out of use for the entire time.  You guys must not want to believe ur phones are a necessary tool...or maybe you dont want the consumer to believe it is.  I have tried to find solutions on your website as well as through other 3rd party communities.  Ultimately they were of no use.  I stumbled onto my solution by accident since Im a bit of a computer geek...a semi-geek.

I have this issue too, I went into my Windows event viewer. (should have looked at this a year ago when this started)
    it said this

basically whenever I try to sync my ipod touch 4G 64GB it crashes iTunes when it begins the pictures. if im lucky ill get 4-5 on there before it stops responding. its not my system or anything im running win7x64 8GB DDR3 ram (Corsair XMS3) AMD FX Eight core processor.
It is silly that iTunes cannot add pictures to apple devices. it shatters whatever incline I may have to buy apple products. knda like the Airport Extreem router my dad bought the new firmware, caused my router to not function... why release firmware that breaks a product. -_- <-- off topic but still

for the last 6 months my mac is crashing all the time. I think it is safari because firefox works fine. Any suggestions?

What is crashing, is it just Safari or is the entire computer freezing (if that's what you mean by crashing)? If the latter, are you saying it only happens when Safari is open?
You need to explain with more detail just what is happening and when.
Do you get a message to restart?

  • Lumia 920 freezes/crashes during the night. Can't ...

I have had my Lumia for 10 days and for the second time it crashes during the night and the next morning I was not able to turn it on using the power button. I had to do a soft reset... The alarm that I set to wake me up never started... This means that I cannot trust my phone for waking me up in the morning! This is unacceptable!

There is a possible alternative to the flashing or reset suggestet by the care point.
As the problem only started recently, there is a high probability that it is caused by a bad app or setting or the combination of the two. The alternative is to reverse whatever apps you installed or settings you changed just before this problem started.
The flashing is just an easy way out because it reverts the phone back to its out of the box condition. However, you may find yourself in the same situation again should you install the same app or make the same setting changes after the flashing.
I had a similar problem with one app but I managed to isolate it and the problem disappeared after I uninstalled the app. The app was pulled subsequently and updated by the developer and is now working fine on my phone.

i updated my ipod and my computer crashed during the update now the apps that come with the ipod such as the app store and itunes are not on my ipod how do i fix this

Connect your iPod to any computer with iTunes installed, highlight your device and try syncing the apps only. If it doesn't work might have to restore through iTunes. With the new iTunes and iCloud beta, you can have the iTunes list what apps are missing on your device but if you had previously purchased in the past and then have iTunes install them. You should always get in the habit of backing up your iPhone whenever you do any firmware/OS updating/upgrading or transferring over to new device. I really really really really hope you can get back at least some of your old info. I will tell you this, I have been kicking myself in the butt for not routinely backing up my iPhone when my beautiful special iPhone 4 came up missing and had to revert back to my 3GS. iPhone 5 will be released in a few months so I am holding off on purchasing a new iPhone til then, not that I did so without reservation and a little bit of iPhone 4 withdraw.

    Hi fremley,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
This article may be helpful with determining why your Mac Pro doesn't stay in sleep mode:
Mac OS X: Why your Mac might not sleep or stay in sleep mode
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1776
Some things reset the sleep timers, preventing the computer from sleeping:
Hard drive access (even if you're not using the computer, a running application might be accessing your drive, such as when downloading a large file or listening to music in iTunes)
Moving the mouse or using a portable Mac's trackpad, pressing a mouse button, or pressing a key on the keyboard
Some System Preferences settings (see below)
    Open applications (see below)
    Input devices (see below)
    Expansion cards (see below)
Additional drives, such as USB, FireWire, DVD, or CD drives (see below)

  • My mac shuts down in prolonged sleep mode "because of a Problem".

If my mac book pro mid 2012 goes to sleep for a prolonged period of time I have to reboot it as hard start and get a message indicating that it shut down because of an problem.  How Do I fix this?
I had my mother board tested at a mac shop in Nepal while I was there and it came back as everything being perfect.
It does not always do this though and for short sleeps it never does.
I have had extensive changes done to this mac such as a 16GB Ram upgrade and replacing the hard drive with a 1 T Crucial Hard Drive and removing the DVD Player and adding in a 256 Solid State Drive.  So far everything has been working great.  Just recently I notice this occuring with the sleep mode so as a result I just shut down the computer fully when I am not near to it or using it.  Any advice as to what to look at or try out.

    godlovestodance,
your Mid 2012 needs 1600 MHz memory modules. Is your currently installed RAM of this variety?
In your current setup, is it your 1 TB HDD or your 256 GB SSD that is in the optical drive bay?
One thing you can try is this: boot your MacBook Pro into Recovery mode by holding down a Command key and the R key as it starts up. Once the Mac OS X Utilities menu appears, select Disk Utility. On the left-hand side of the Disk Utility window, select your internal disk’s boot partition (typically called “Macintosh HD”). On the right-hand side, press the Verify Disk button if it’s not greyed out; if it is greyed out, or if it reports that errors were found, press the Repair Disk button. Once the verification/repair is completed, exit Disk Utility and select Restart from the Apple menu to restart in normal mode. Does it still crash because of an extended sleep?
