What is "Clip 01.dv"?

I'm new to iDVD. I made a project and it seemed to be working fine, but I hadn't burned it yet. Now when I open it, it says it's searching for movie data in "Clip 01.dv", and then it says "The movie file 'Clip 01.dv' cannot be found. Without this file, the movie cannot play properly." What does this mean?

that means, something messed up OR you didn't use the apps as intended
iDVD is part of iLife, meant to work with iMovie; using iMovie, the tape import gets converted; iM stores these files internally, giving them names as "Clip_01.dv"
when you drag'n drop/import/choose an iM in iDVD, iDVD "collects" all parts needed for creation of this videoDVD; if something missing - as in your case - the video will not look as intended, simple spoken: something is missing.
did you save your iM project BEFORE launching iDVD?
did you empty the trash or did you <shiver> opened the imovie.project (ctrl-click) file and played-around with the files inside…? << NEVER do that, iM projects are fragile… can get corrupted within the blink of an eye. or two.
do you have any "Norton utilities" in use? they can harm your system, too....
is your iM project locally, or on any external harddrive?

  • What do clips with diagonal stripes mean in the timeline???

    If you look at the two video clips labeled "R21" in my timeline, you can see that there they have diagonal lines through them. Can anyone tell me what that means?
    I don't think they're offline because otherwise I would see the usual multi-lingual notice in the program monitor window indicating "offline"
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi Kevin,
    Haven't had any issues with out of sync clips. What seems strange is the the monitor window is black yet the clip isn't disabled. And I don't believe it's offline. But do you know what a clip with diagonal stripes through it means in Premiere? I've looked elsewhere online, even in Premiere's help section and haven't found out what this means. Thank you very much for your help.

  • What's clip gain about?

    I've just discovered Clip Gain.  I'm wondering what its purpose and advantage/disadvantage is compared to Track Gain.

    Well, fairly obviously, it adjusts the gain of that one clip only, not any of the other clips on the same track. Track Gain raises or lowers the level of everything on that track. However if you only have one long clip on a track the two are synonymous.
    Clip gain is one way of levelling up the "volume" of different clips when compiling CD tracks, one after the other, in the Multitrack view.

  • PSE 5--what is a clipping mask and how does it work?

    Can anyone explain what a clipping mask is, how it works, and most importantly if Photoshop Elements 5.0 has this capability?
    Also, are there any tutorials out there that I can teach myself on this topic? I am trying to mimic a layout explained in digital scrapbooking magazine and this technique is used.
    Thank you!
    Heather

    Heather,
    You can find one explanation at Janee's tutorials: http://www.myjanee.com/tuts/elements/elemask.htm
    Since PSE does not support layer masks per se, the clipping group simulates a layer mask and hence Janee's name for it, "elemask" (cute, huh?)
    Here are 2 examples:
    In this example I wanted to blur the background leaving the flower in focus:
    http://www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=1euavV1sDqzrEqqqierfc5dSEH9yI01
    1. Duplicate the Background layer and apply a Gaussian blur to the new layer.
    2. Add an adjustment layer below the blur layer (any kind of adjustment layer will do), but do not make any adjustment - just click OK.\
    3. Group the blur layer with the adjustment layer. On the adjustment layer paint the subject with black
    to mask out the blur, paint with white to restore the blur.
    Of course you can use other tools on the adjustment layer besides the paint brush, e.g., make a selection and fill with the black or white. In some cases it might be easier to first fill the adjustment layer with black and then paint with white.
    In this example (not actually a mask but still demonstrates a clipping group) I wanted to crop the picture into a leaf shape.
    http://www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=1ys9Z7FspSwF8HHKGLrxjGVhbTodmF0
    1. Use the leaf from the Custom Shape tool to draw out the leaf, creating a new layer.
    2. Move the leaf layer below the picture layer.
    3. Group the two layers.
    Note that in order to move a layer below the Background layer you have to rename the Background layer to anything else (layer 0 in my example).

  • PAL or NSTC, how can i tell what format the vid clip is?

    The 2nd abbreviation might be wrong...
    concerning vid clips
    How can you tell what format clips are in before iMovie tells you?
    I don't want to combine the formats and cannot figure a way to tell the difference before trying to burn the dvd

    At the top of the iMovie project window it will tell you by giving the name you gave to the project as well as 'DV NTSC, or DV NTSC Widescreen.
    Somewhat confusingly, when you set your choice of NTSC or PAL in iMovie's preferences when starting a new project (you can't switch later), these are only identified as 29.95 fps (which is NTSC) and 25 fps (which is PAL). Once you have set that, all iMovie projects you start will default to the same until you change it. You cannot combine the formats in the same project.
    As you are in the USA yours will probably default to NTSC which is the TV system you use there. In Europe we set it to PAL which is what we use here.
    A bit rudely, we also say that NTSC stands for 'Never The Same Colour Twice'!
    PAL used to stand for 'Prolongs Active Life', but that was actually the tag-line in a dog food commercial! But they are useful mnemonics to remember them by!

  • What is color clipping

    I know that most photos have some part with Out of Gamut colors not reproduceable by CMYK offset. And Photoshop says those colors will be clipped when converted from RGB to CMYK. I want to know what exactly Clipping means. What happens if I convert (using Relative color) and print the image with out of gamut colors? Will the out of gamuts look to totally different colors or do they squiz to the closest CMYK match? I am questioning whether it is necessary to painstakingly try to readjust each out of gamut colors for images that will end up on a catalog.

    also try giving Bruce Fraser a read on out of gamut color and soft proofing in Photoshop (dated but still very relevant)...

  • How do I find what is taking up all the space in my iMovie library?

    If I find the my iMovie library in Finder, it's total size is a reported 15.59GB and, as far as I can tell, I cannot open it in Finder to see what files are taking up that space.
    If I look at my iMovie library in iMovie, it apparently contains one event, which contains one movie.
    If I select the move as then go to File -> Reveal in Finder, I can see all the folders and files associated with the event and they come to a grand total of 5.95 GB.
    So, how do I find out what movies, clips or projects are taking up the other ~ 10GB in the iMovie library folder?
    I'm using iMovie 10.0.5

    When I did that, I could still only see the same contents as shown in the third screenshot above. However, minutes after doing the "Show package contents", iMovie seems to have figured out that it didn't have 15GB of data in its library after all and updated its size accordingly. So, problem solved for now but I still find iMovie to be painful to use and I will probably avoid doing so as much as I can.

  • Need help returning correct name from a code created movie clip

    Hello. I am an AS3 n00b with hopefuly a simple question I am designing a simple game in flash. This code creates an array of movie clips and asigns a picture to each one. It is a map screen. What I need is when I click on one of the created movie clips, I need it to return either the index of the clip in the array or the name of the clip. Basicaly anything I can use to tell them apart in the code. Here is the code:
    import flash.display.MovieClip;
    var MapLoader:Array = new Array();
    var strJPGext:String = ".jpg";
    var intContTileNumber:int;
    var strContTilePath:String;
    var intDistStartX:int = 63;
    var intDistStartY:int = 64;
    var intDistMultiplyY:int = 0;
    var intDistMultiplyX:int = 0;
    var intDistCount:int = 0;
    var MapSquare:Array = new Array();
    for (var i:int = 0; i < 729; i++)
             //var MapSquare:MovieClip = new MovieClip();
            MapSquare.push (new MovieClip());
            MapSquare[i].x = intDistStartX + (intDistMultiplyX * 30);
            MapSquare[i].y = intDistStartY + (intDistMultiplyY * 30);
            MapSquare[i].name = "MapSquare" + i ;
            addChild(MapSquare[i]);
            intContTileNumber = i;
            MapLoader.push (new Loader);
            strContTilePath = intContTileNumber + strJPGext;
            MapLoader[i].load(new URLRequest(strContTilePath));
            MapSquare[i].addChild(MapLoader[i]);
            intDistCount++;
            intDistMultiplyX++;
            if (intDistCount > 26){
            intDistCount = 0;
            intDistMultiplyX = 0;
            intDistMultiplyY++;
    stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, reportClick);
    function reportClick(event:MouseEvent):void
        trace("movieClip Instance Name = " + event.target.name);
    Now all this works fine, it creates the map and assigns the correct picture and places them in the correct X,Y position and it is the correct grid of 27x27 squares. The problem is with the name, when I click on the movie clip, it returns "Instance2" or "Instance5" or whatever. It starts with 2 and then increases each number by 3 for each clip, so the first one is 2, then 5 then 8 and so on. This is no good. I need it to return the name that I assigned it
    . If I put the code in trace(MapSquare[1]) it will return the name "MapSquare1" so I know the name was assigned, but it isnt returning.
    Please assist
    Thanks,
    -red

    Thanks for the resopnse,
    I know I dont really need the name, I just need the index number of the array, but I cant figure out how to get the index name without specificaly coding for it. That is why in the listener event I use event.target.name because I dont know what movie clip is being clicked until it has been clicked on. Basically when a movie clip is clicked it needs to return which index of the array was clicked.
    I could do it this way:
    MapSquare[0].addEventListener(
      MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP,
      function(evt:MouseEvent):void {
        trace("I've been clicked!");
    MapSquare[1].addEventListener(
       MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP,
       function(evt:MouseEvent):void {
         trace("I've been clicked!");
    MapSquare[2].addEventListener(
       MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP,
       function(evt:MouseEvent):void {
         trace("I've been clicked!");
    ... ect
    but that is unreasonable and it kind of defeats the purpose of having the array in the first place. The code that each movie clip executes is the same, eventualy that index will be passed into a database and the data at that primary key will be retrieved and returned to the program. So I just need to know, when one of those buttons is clicked, which one was clicked and what is its index in the array.
    I am a VB programer and in VB this is very easy, the control array automatically sends its own index into the function when one of the buttons is clicked. It seems simple enough, I just dont know how to do it in action script.
    Thanks again,

  • Best Practice for commenting clips?

    I have started working on a project that includes taking a bunch of previously shot video for a series of marketing campaigns. Each video is a short 2 - 3 minute vignette of one part of the institution I work for.
    The clips I get are already dumped from the camera and come in the form of:
    {date}-{time}-{incremental}.mov
    I import them all into the clips area and, while watching them, I add comments in the Comment A and Comment B fields so that I have an idea what the clip is. However, as I was doing this, I found that there was more information I really needed, so here is how I was categorizing things:
    Clips were all renamed Clip-{incremental} (ie: Clip-001, Clip-002, etc) so that I could have an easy reference method when talking to clients.
    *Comment A:* Generally what is occurring in the clip
    If there are a number of subjects in a clip (some of the interviews are contained in a single clip that is very long) I will put markers in and add comments to the market points
    *Comment B (renamed to "Talent"):* Who the primary speaker is (makes it easier to find clips of whomever I am looking for)
    *Master Comment A:* Technical (audio/video) Quality from 1 to 5
    *Master Comment B:* Content Quality from 1 to 5
    This allows me to sort on any of the columns and find what I am looking for easily.
    Because I am new to this, I have no idea if there is a better or standard system that others use. How do you go about categorizing clips? Is it different if you shot the video?
    Also, is there a way I can customize the clip bin to be the same each time (based on my own settings?)

    If you are going to be at this project for a while and will need to reference a bunch of clips, you might want to look into CatDV by Squarebox. It is a well regarded digital asset manager/database that integrates very well with Final Cut Pro. Not sure how well it will work with FCE but it is worth investigating.

  • Movie Clip not playing correctly (Flash CS3, AS2)

    Hey, I'm making a tutorial for a board game and there's this movie clip that mimics a piece being played. It's basically empty for about 9 frames and then the piece is on the 10th frame. On the 10th frame, I placed a stop(); script. The movie clip has no linkage and no label.
    For some reason, on a certain frame, it didn't work. It worked fine on other frames so I copy & pasted from those frames and replaced the movie clip that did not work right. Oddly enough, after I copy & pasted the movie clip, the error spread to the movie clip I copied! I tried it again and again the error spread to what ever clip I copied from. The other movie clips (same item) still functions properly. I never encountered a problem like this. Can anyone please help?

    1. you should have no code attached to objects.  assign your objects instance names (eg, mc) and use those names in your code.
    2. that code should not be in an enterframe loop.
    if(_root.action_ryu==1){
    mc._alpha=100;  // not _Alpha
    mc.gotoAndPlay(4);
    _root.Ryu._alpha=0;
    } else {
    _root.Ryu_Attack._alpha=0;

  • How do I add a clip-based timecode burn in to all my clips?

    Howdy —
    I'm trying to add a timecode based on each clip to every clip in my project.  If I select all the clips and add a timecode, it's media-based — and I can't figure out how to change that except one-by-one.  Can you change the timecode preferences before adding them to all of the clips?
    But here's the main thing: the clip timecode just starts from 0, no matter what the clip in the sequence was cut from.  Can I add a timecode that refers to the timing in the master clip?  (i.e. if I'm using the last 10 seconds of a minute-long clip, it'll say: 00:50 at the start).
    Thank you!

    See this section of the Help files to see three ways to do it.

  • Distorted aspect ratio of exported WMV clip

    This is truly bizarre. If I output from the timeline using Quicktime Conversion to a WMV file, the aspect ratio is wider than when I output to a Quicktime format. This also happens when I export to the AVI file type.
    Any clues?

    ****! That didn't help. I just tried every combination of pixel dimensions and frame size I could and nothing helps. No matter what, the clips are still exporting as too wide.
    I think I'll be exporting as 640x480 after all. I can't figure a way around this.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Quick find a clip embedded in sequence

    I have 85 sequences on the timeline. There are some clips that are scattered around in those sequences that I need to replace. Those bad clips got messed up and has no timecode for me to just redigitize.
    I need a quick way to find a clip within the 85 sequences before taking it offline. I know I can label a clip with a color and scroll along every sequence till I find it but is there an easier way?
    Thanks-

    If I trashed it and take it offline and later find the clip in the time line, I would have no way knowing what the clip looked like and would not be able to replace the clip with the new digitized media.
    I can't reconnect the new media because the timecodes are different. All the bad clips I want to delete has a timecode that starts at 00:00:00:00. There must have been a bug in th FCP when I digitized the reel at the time. I just fixed the bug by upgrading. (The bug was the reel and timecodes would disappear after batch digitizing was done)
    Although my grammar *****, I hope this is clearer.
