What is color burn layer?

I was reading one of techniques for removing blue haze from pictures.
The initial two steps were as follows:
1. Click on your color burn layer
2. Select all and copy the color burn layer only to the clipboard
I have never used "color burn layer".  So I have no idea what "color burn layer" is and how to create it.
Please asvise me how to creaste color burn layer.
I have photoshop CS5 (with Windows 7).

It is not a tutorial.   Somebody asked the question in a photo forum.
I now lost the original webpage but I copied the anwer as follows:
Click on your color burn layer
Select all and copy the color burn layer only to the
clipboard
Open a Hue/saturation adjustment layer but make no corrections just press OK.
Alt click on the Hue/adjustment layers mask this will make the screen go white.
Edit> paste... this will paste the color burn layer to the mask.
We must reverse the mask now so press Ctrl+I or Image>Adjustment>Inverse
Click on the adjustment part of the hue/saturation or Alt click on the mask again.
Now reduce saturation by moving the saturation slider to the left.
My question is how to careate color burn layer in CS5 photoshop.

  • Blending with Color Burn not working

I have an image in which I simply duplicated the background layer and changed the Blending Mode to Color Burn and it creates a very dark and dramatic result which I love. However, when I save it back to Lightroom (or anywhere else it turns out) as a TIFF, JPG, or PSD it always looks considerably lighter and loses the look. I thought i read somewhere about this blending mode using "transparent pixels (I don't even know what that means) and am wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem...
    Thanks all!

We can't know. We don't know the exact settings you used in the timeline nor any other details like what version of AE, what system and so on, since you haven't bothered to provide them. From your shapes not being properly pre-composed to issues with 3D render order and collapsed transformations there could be anything going on. We simply don't know based on your insufficient info.

  • Color blend layer appears pale

I am working with a colleague on some icons and am having an issue with a color blend layer.  I'm using Fireworks CS5 11.0.1.7 and he is on CS4.  The base shape is a shaded cube and we want to overlay a rainbow on the cube.  For him this looks good, but for me the color layer is very pale (using the same PNG).

    me on CS5:
As far as I can tell we are doing the same thing.  Am I missing something?  Did the Blending change between versions?
Here is the layered PNG file:

    Hi,
There definitely seems to be a version issue here. I have both CS4 and CS5.1 on the same machine and there is a huge difference in the way the Blend Mode is working. Technically however I'm not sure which version is working correctly.
I tried the various options and found that taking your grey and white box over the rainbow box layer and giving it a "Color Burn" blend mode looks similar to what you need for the specific situation (maybe brighten the rainbow colors a bit). Both versions Fireworks CS4 and CS5 show the same effect with this blend mode.
    Hope this helps!

  • 3D effect with color burn not rendering out. Please help.

    Hello,
I am rendering out a 3D effect using an adjustment layer with stroked lines. I have the transfer mode on these lines set to "classic color burn" because it's the look that I want. However when I render the effect out, the lines are almost invisible in the final render. I also have some lights in the scene and am using 3D element with a 3D object. Could the lights be causing a problem? I will attach a photo of the scene before and after render. Thanks in advance for any help!

Here are the pics. In the second set the rings almost disappear completely.

  • Can't create a solid color fill layer !!

I wonder if someone can help this PS newbie before I go insane ?
If I create a color fill layer & want to set it to a solid yellow color I can NOT get it to change color
no matter what I do on the color picker it remains white
I start clicking the small circle icon ( half black / white ) & selecting solid color
I click on the yellow bit of the vertical color bar & use the cursor to select the precise shade of yellow
to the top right there is a small rectangle
the color I choose - yellow - appears on the top half , the bottom half is white
I click OK so my small box is top-half yellow, bottom half white - the layer stays stubbornly white
shouldn't it go the color I choose ??
Now whats driving me mad is that last week I was doing this for fun
I had a jpeg file of a book page that I could create a highlighter pen effect by putting a yellow layer on top & sliding
the opacity down to 20% or whatever
I have opened one of the psd files I created & the color fill layer is yellow
the left-side palette thumbnail is yellow
when I edit the color the small rectangle is entirely yellow - top & bottom
I don't know what I am doing differently or not doing that I need to do ...
    any ideas gratefully received !

    YESSSS !!!!
sanity restored.....you, sir, are a genius.
    thankyou.

  • Action help to copy color in layer mask to another layer mask

    Hi all,
    Having trouble with this problem...
I have layer 1 with a color mask set to black, red, blue etc.
I have layer 2 with a color mask which i want to match and also become black, red, blue
There are hundreds of files, and the color in layer 1 is always different.
Manually i would simply click on the layer 2 mask which opens the color picker, and select the area of layer 1 i want to match.
But doing that in an action does not work.
I can't get the action to recognize that i want to copy the color content of a mask, and not the specific color used in the example during which the macro is recorded. The color picker does not seem capable of selecting a dynamic input (e.g. whatever color is on layer 1), it simply copies whatever was in layer 1 during recording like a dumb instrument.
    thanks for any input.

Not sure what you mean by color mask, but I just noticed cs6 seems to have a new feature in the actions tab dropdown menu (small top right button) called 'allow tool recording'.
I just tried to make an eyedropper action with that option turned on and now the color does change when I change the image colors and run the action again.
    Hope this helps.

  • What are color adjustment

    what are color adjustments

They are operations (both useable as destructive Adjustments and Adjustment Layers) that change the values (depending on the Color Mode of the image RGB, CMYK, Lab, grayscale) of pixels in an image based on user input both in the form of the settings of the respective Adjustment and Selections/Layer Masks/Layer settings.

After burning a successful DVD in iDVD out of FCPX, how can I see the settings it used?
So I finally burned a DVD out of a Apple Pro Res file into iDVD in PAL format. My question now is how can I find out what the exact burn properties were so that I can apply the same burn properties to a project in Compressor 4?
Is it possible to see what iDVD did?

I don't know any way you can interrogate iDVD to reveal settings to the extent that you can in a Compressor project. What you could do is open up the show's VOB in MPEG STreamclip, go to File and Reveal Stream Information; that will at least give you some rudimentary info like average bit rate. Perhaps someone, with more iDVD experience, can chime in here.
The broader question is why use Compressor at all if your current workflow is doing the job to your satisfaction?
The value of Compressor is that it gives you control over the many parameters that affect size quality.  and playability. The Compressor presets can give you a starting point for DVD delivery, Web, etc. From those presets, people typically experiment by adjusting the parameters until they get the desired results for their specific show. It's a little bit science and a little bit art. After experimenting, you may be able to get slightly better quality for the project you've successfully burned in iDVD by using Compressor and something likeToast…or maybe not.
    Good luck.

  • Secondary Color Correction layer not working in .look file

I needed to edit an image for continuity reasons so I exported a .dpx frame from that section of my premiere pro project and worked on it in speedgrade.  In the workflow I have set for myself, it is best to apply the look in after effects using the "apply color lut" function.  Unfortunately, the secondary color correction layer does not apply, but other layers such as primary will.

    Hi ACD,
After Effects and Photoshop CS6 take .Looks via the LUT engine. That indeed allows for using primaries with low mid high differentiation and should yield really good results.
Secondaries can be expressed in a LUT as well, but I would typically not recommend using them when you want to integrate .Looks with your After Effects workflow. Here's why:
    - a LUT is never as precise as you'd want it to be for something as complex as secondary color grading - a LUT is always based on interpolation (as opposed to applying the effect in SpeedGrade - there it's all native, no interpolation at all)
    - For a good key you would typically use the denoise and the blur function in the secondaries. Both (by nature) don't translate at all into a LUT, so you'd have to give up using these 2 important tools
    - For a lot of work you'd want the LUT to be accompanied by a mask. That's something that also can't be described in a LUT.
Think of the LUT support for .Looks you created in SpeedGrade more as a really helpful tool for matching your comps to an overall look you design, not necessarily as the tool to apply a final grade.
    Hope this is helpful.

  • Color Burn inverts color!! Not working!!

Hello! I have recently started to work with different VFX for example man getting shot and blood comes out.
I have action essentials and when i add the blood and put color burn on the black background is still there and a different color appears on the blood itself in the middle!
This is really frustrating and it keeps me from finishing my project. Thanks

Why would you use Color Burn on a black background? This isn't even a specific issue with Action Essentials, you simply lack a basic understanding of how blending modes work and when to use which. Sorry, but you really need to start at the beginning:

  • What external dvd burner is compatible with my 2007 mac mini running OS X 10.5.8?

What external dvd burner is compatible with my 2007 mac mini running OS X 10.5.8?

I have an LG GE24LU20 and works great with either my iMac or Mac Mini.
LG GE24LU20 Optical Drives - 24x External Super-Multi DVD Rewriter - LG Electronics US
Heck' I can even open and close the tray from my menu bar icon,
plus it is way faster and less finicky than the superdrives.

  • What external DVD burner can I use on my older IMAC using OS 10.4.11?

What external DVD burner can I use on my older IMAC using OS10.4.11? I am working on a IMovie project using I movie 6? and I want to finish this before purchasing my new computer. Thanks, Dr. Steve

unless you have one of the latest models of an imac g4 with usb 2.0 i would suggest a firewire burner instead. they're a little harder to find but they're still out there.

  • Color burns on ipad 3?

Anyone else heard of an ipad 3 coming out of the box with color burns on it? I'm a little displeased with apple at the moment.
There are a few small areas on the screen that have a red hue, almost like when you'd put a magnet to an old tube tv. I litteraly just opened the box as it was a gift. I'm assuming this is a permenant problem and ill have to exchange it tomorrow, but if I can avoid that it would be nice. I've already had my iphone 5 serviced once and then ultimately replaced since I bought it, so as you can imagine I'm getting sick of the going to apple for repairs on new products.
"Steve's not around? Sweet! Now we can half *** everything and rush it out the door..."

This is happening because you don't have a network connection. You may have Wifi turned on, but check the Network that you have joined. Is it valid? The reason I ask is because I had the same issue this morning. I finally realized that the network that my iPhone had picked up was not a valid Wifi network, so I wasn't really on the internet.
Are you seeing the Wifi icon on the top of the screen?

  • Darken, Color Burn, Multiply?

Hi, I have looked everywhere and can’t find an answer to this. I am using Flash CS5 and I need to apply a “Transparency mode like: “Darken, Screen Multiply Color Burn, like in Photoshop to an imported image. Is this possible in Flash CS5 and how would I do it as I don’t see any options for it.

Glad it can be done. I converted my image to a “Graphic Symbol” instead of MC that’s why I couldn’t see the options. Thanks.
Only too bad there is no option for “Color Burn” guess I will have to use “Subtract" instead.
